Mavericks stuck on loading bar (about 40%)

My Macbook pro is a may (SSD) edition, can't give you the spec because I can't use it.
This is how I bricked my MBP...
Installed Yosemite beta.
Accidently chmodded my root directories locking me out of the OS
Ran fsck -fy in single user mode (equivelant of repair drive so I'm told). No errors.
Entered recovery mode and repaired permissions. No errors.
Entered recovery mode and repaired drives. No errors.
Gave up and re-installed OSX back to mavericks. No errors.
Now the laptop boots to a black screen with the white apple logo and a white loading bar that gets to about 40% and then will set there for hours doing nothing (tried for about 4 hours). Even a system recovery won't fix the issue so I'm stumped.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.

Install Mavericks, Lion/Mountain Lion Using Internet Recovery
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
Boot to the Internet Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND-OPTION- R keys until a globe appears on the screen. Wait patiently - 15-20 minutes - until the Recovery main menu appears.
Partition and Format the hard drive:
Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
After DU loads select your newly installed hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion. Mavericks: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks and click on the Install button. Be sure to select the correct drive to use if you have more than one.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • Unlocked IPhone 4 stuck on loading bar with apple logo

Pretty much what it says on the tin, I downloaded the iOS 6 update today and after downloading and installing the phone told me to plug it into my laptop where it then downloaded another update of some description, after that my IPhone 4 just stayed on the apple logo with a loading bar underneath and constantly resetting itself from time to time! Oh and my laptop no longer detects my IPhone at all! y
Any help would be super awesome

Try a Hard Reset, hold together Home and Power buttons for about 15 seconds until iPhone restarts. If  does not work connect iPhone to wall charger and then try the Hard Reset again. If still does not work, leave iPhone on wall charger for some time, maybe 20 minutes and try Hard Reset again.

  • Yosemite stuck on loading bar screen

Well, this has been a bit of a distaster.
Yosemite has slowly ruined my Mac. When I first installed it, iit used to freeze at random once a day. I usemit for work heavily using Photoshop, Illustrator, Indesign, Mail, Spotify and Firefox amongst other things. One day since I've had it, it hasn't frozen. Most days one freeze, some 2 and today four. The way it usually freezes is that the music would cut out and then shortly after freeze with the beach ball spinning infinitely But moveable. I haven't had the music cut out recently, but the same beach ball method takes place.
I Have called Apple twice and theyve run me few a few things like safe boots, removing cache, verify hard disks, etc.
What my issue is now is that I cannot get past the loading bar screen. The bar starts off strong, gets a third of the way through and absolutely crawls to half way and then stops.
What can I do to try and solve this issue? I thought a safe boot, by holding shift before the bar comes up, might work, but I get exactly the same slow load. To nothing.
IF someone could help me, that would be greatly appreciated. It's a work machine so I'm getting pretty worried.

Alright, I got past the loading bar by resetting once again, this time without any external hard disks (and other USB items) plugged in.
I'd still love to know how to stop the random freezing???

  • I want to restore the preinstalled OS X Maverick on my new MacBook after upgraded installed Yosemite gets stuck at load bar

    Hi,
After my free upgrade to OS X Yosemite
on my new MacBook with preinstalled OS X Maverick,
the MacBook starts with the new colorful Yosemite-Screen
    and I can login to my MacBook-Account succesfully;
but then, after my password is accepted
the Yosemite load_display_line loads to a 1/3 only and the Yosemite stucks at this point.
As offered during my tries to fix the problem on the MacBook,
I had my MacBook checked by Apple
and received the code for "no problems, my MacBook is alright": ADP000.
Is somebody here who knows how
to restore the preinstalled OS X Maverick on my new MacBook
after the upgraded installation of Yosemite?

This should restore the version of OS X originally pre-installed on the computer.

  • Mac Book Pro update stuck on loader bar

Last night I choose to update my MacBook Pro to the latest OS. I left it running overnight. 12 hours later and its only at 50% on the progress bar of the installing software update screen and it appears to have made no progress in the last serveral hours.
What should I do? How much longer should I wait?

Press and hold down the Power button until the computer turns off. The update is frozen. Check to see if you can restart the computer.

  • How do you stop a frozen loading bar when first setting up your iPhone 5c

Tried to set up new iPhone 5c and restore from previous icloud settings. Phone is stuck on loading bar and if you do a hard restart won't fix it

What's a "transformer on your phone"?  Unless your iPhone is jailbroken and/or you loaned it to someone, it's highly unlikely that your iPhone got hacked.

  • Two crashes: one OS crash with gray screen and loading bar- help? (Stuck overseas, so you guys are it!)

    Hey everyone.
When firefox crashed last night, I figured it was just firefox being difficult, but when while using firefox my entire computer crashed this afternoon and rebooted with a gray screen, the spinny wait symbol, and a loading bar, I started to get concerned. After looking through console, I'm not sure what's caused it to crash like this so I'm hoping one of you bright people here can tell me what exactly happened. I'm running a mac book pro with 10.6.8, have no real addons on firefox aside from adblock plus, divx, memory restart, a french dictionary, and a skin I've been using forever and have also spoken to the developer in the past about. I'm also using Firefox 17.0.1. After trying to google some of the more unfamiliar/suspicious lines (mostly relating to launch agents), I typed into terminal the command to list all launch agents and received 3 replies naming adobe, divx, and google. I used terminal to delete them all just for safe measure (plus the adobe update window has been irritating me to no end so maybe it'll go away now, haha). I did three things when I tried to boot up again after the crash and the weird launch screen with loading bar came up: 1) I held down the power button again because a) the screen was weirding me out and b) I thought it got hung up again (bar seemed to stall for an unusually long time), 2) I tried to boot again and when the same gray screen came back I just figured I had no choice and had to sit through it. 3) when the bar was at about half way I pulled out my ethernet cord for safe measure in case something shady was going on. These three things are also reflected in the log below.
I currently live overseas and the nearest Apple store is over two hours away with no guarantee of a native english speaker working, so if anyone can let me know what caused the crash and if there's anything I can do about it, I would be extremely grateful. The following is my current console log in its entirety from today, including my attempted system update to see if that would improve things (which also resulted in a gray screen with loading bar later), and a really weird bit at the end that is also confusing (but possibly caused by me tinkering in terminal- not sure).
NAME is replacing my HD name, and my screen name here (caithris) has replaced my computer user name. NUMBER has replaced anything that looks like a serial number of some kind.
Thanks so much ahead of time-- please let me know if there's anything else I can share.

The gray screen with loading bar issue is a at boot fsck (file system check) that has discovered something wrong with your boot drive/partition and was attempting to fix it.
OS X is booting but can't complete, so that means your hard drive is good, just likely has been either subjected to shock which damaged data on the platters, or bad sectors (the drive is dying if after fixing it, problems occurs again), or something messed something up in the file structure.
Firefox is currently at 19.02, so it appears your background auto-update has not been occurring, which makes me suspect the machine's data is broken in some manner or you have malware on the machine blocking the updates.
Your problems are multiple, in your case I advise a complete erase and install.
1: If you have a backup of your user data on a external storage drive (not TimeMachine as it might be corrupted and compromised with malware it's just going to restore back) then your good, else you have to do this.
Create a data recovery/undelete external boot drive
Copy your data to a blank plain jane external storage drive as you want no executable files on it when you connect to the cleaned machine later.
2: Once your data is safely copied (copy visible files manually and what you know is good, not folders that can contain invisible malware programs!) then disconnect the drive(s)
3: Next assume all writeable media is contaminated with malware and treat as so. Even if you erased it.
4: Stick in your 10.6 install disk and reboot holding the c or option key down. You want Disk Utility and you want to select the ENTIRE internal drive and MUST USE the Security Option > Zero All Data (unless your in the military then use 7x erase, do not use 35x as it will take weeks and is unnecessary)
The Zero/7x erase will do two things, do a low level format and erradicate everything (including hidden stuff and deleted files) also will map off any failing sectors on the hard drive.
5: Follow the procedure here to install 10.6
How to erase and install Snow Leopard 10.6
6: Reboot the machine twice, then once you set up the machine (using a alias of course and not allowing registration), use a secured network and IMMEDIATLY Software update to 10.6.8, if you can download the 10.6.8 Combo update on another secure machine to a (new) USB thumb drive and install it on the clean Mac, do that instead.
WiFi security issues, at home and WiFi hotspots
    https://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399
Still run Software update afterwards as Apple might not have fully updated the combo update yet.
7: Once you machine is secure, download the free ClamXav and run a scan on the external storage drive with just your files, perhaps one or more PDF's or other files are not what they seem to be.
8: Make sure to install fresh copies of software from original sources and not from rewriteable media, update them to be current. Malware can be hidden in copies of programs.
9: Trash all your rewritable media, or use a Linux PC or Linux Mint in a virtual machine (VirtualBox) on another computer like Windows to scrub and reformat all the rewritable media before attaching them to the clean Mac. You have to make sure it's getting the entire media.
10: Once your machine is set back up, then make clones and time and date them.
    Most commonly used backup methods
If your still having problems with the machine, it's likley a failing hard drive and you will have to replace it and repeat the steps above pretty much.
Really it's best to replace the drive in the interest of security.

Your overseas, if your in a foriegn country you have to assume FinSpy is being installed on your machine (uses a older iTunes verison "update" to get on) or there is other tricks via the ISP to install something on your machine. • My Macbookpro 2012 won't turn on, stuck on grey screen, logo and loading bar

It is stuck on the grey screen with the logo and the loading bar, which won't pass after 30%. If i turn it on, it shows it up again but as it reaches 33% it shuts off by itself. Please, help me. I've been searching online for resolutions but there seems to be a wide variety of ways. I'm not sure which to preform as I am scared to make a mistake and accidentally make it worse. If anyone had this problem before, is there any way to fix it without re-installing stuff? Or is there a easy an safe way to preform it? Thanks.

I have a 2011 MacBookPro and I was using iPhoto a couple of days ago when I received a software update message.  I clicked OK (as the message assured me that I could continue to use my computer while updating took place).  After a while I got a meesage that iPhoto needed to be closed for the software updates to be completed, but I continued working with the intention of closing it soon.  After about another minute, the screen split into two panes (one third/two thirds split) and then froze.  Hard shutdown didn't resolve the problem and then the screen went black.  Re-starting gave me a grey screen and no functionality at all.
Repeated attempts to re-boot made no difference so I followed various peoples' suggestions on-line (using another computer).  Even the Safe Mode boot (Power button plus Shift) wouldn't work, so I trekked to an Apple store to see a genius, but was told there was a two hour wait.  I gave up and came back, and tried Safe Mode starting again.  This time it worked (why!?) and I got into the MBP, but with the vertical screen striping and limited functionality.  I tried the Safe Mode boot many times, all with the same result, but eventually I also got a message about iPhoto needing the library to be repaired.  I did this (took about 30 minutes).  Having done this, it still wouldn't start in normal mode, so I gave up for the evening.  This morning I thought I would try once more before booking a Genius Bar slot - and all was working OK (although slightly slower than normal)!!  What changed overnight I have no idea but the lesson seems to be - keep trying Safe Mode booting until it clears - very scientific!

  • I have an iMac that won't boot up.  I've read all posts on this subject to no avail.  When power is switched on, it chimes, Apple logo appears, spinning wheel, then loading bar starts to fill.  It gets to about 25% then switches off! Help please!

iMac that won't boot up!   When power is switched on it chimes, Apple logo appears, then loading bar, then spinning wheel.  Bar seems to load up and gets to around 25%, then reverts to the start again, gets to about 20% on the bar and then switches itself off leaving a black screen.  Tried all the remedies on internet with no avail so would welcome some advice other than binning what is a relatively new computer.  Earliest appointment Apple could offer was Thursday 17th, really useful for a business user _ not impressed,

You've probably tried this, but will it Safe Boot? Restart holding down the Shift key until you see the grey progress bar. You'll need to input your admin password during bootup. If it will boot you can then try to eject the disk using the various suggestions here that you haven't tried already:

  • My ipad is stuck on the boot logo with loading bar

okay this is my first time using apple community so I'm sorry if my review doesn't provide enough info.
    i own a iPad 2 running IOS 8.1.2, last i checked i hat about 2 gigabytes left
okay so here is what happened i was reseting my iPad and suddenly it stopped at a the boot logo, but it also had a loading bar underneath it.
a while a similar thing happened where it was stuck on a infinite boot loop but the steps i took to remedy that don't work for this situation.
i tried  putting my iPad into DFU mode and restoring it from a iTunes back up backup.
when this happened i was on 20% so i will let it do its thing until it run out of power.
thank you for any feedback you can provide.

okay this a update to what is going on. I tried putting it in dfu mode again thinking maybe i didn't do it right the first time, so what happened was the loading bar went away but the apple logo stayed, after a few seconds it went back to a apple logo with a loading bar.
then a bit later iTunes said welcome to your new iPad so i clicked restore from back up for awhile it said estimating time but then it said a error occurred.

  • My phone is stuck on the loading bar

my torch 9810 is stuck on the loading bar i have tried the safe mode and it didnt work and i wanted to know if there is any other thing i can do..........its been 2 days without my phone and its hell.......i need all my contacts someone help me plz

Hi and Welcome to the Community!
I cannot tell, from "it didnt work", what exactly happened. Did it not get into Safe Mode? Did it get into Safe Mode but you couldn't do anything about the situation? Something else? How many times did you try to get into Safe Mode? How long did you wait before deciding that the loading bar is indeed stuck?
So, all I can recommend is that you continue to attempt to boot into Safe Mode:
KB17877 How to start a BlackBerry smartphone in Safe Mode
It may take you multiple attempts to get the ESC key sequence (press/release/hold) correct, so be patient. When successfully into Safe Mode, see what happens.
If the behavior ceases, then think carefully...what happened just before this behavior started? A new app? An update? A Theme? Something else? Think carefully as the smallest change could be causal...and attempt to undo whatever that was.
But if the behavior continues in Safe Mode or you cannot get into Safe Mode, then you may need to consider more drastic actions -- WIPE, OS Reload, BBSAK Wipe/Reload, and the "Bare Bones" OS Reload Process. To prepare, you should be sure that you have a full backup to your PC...please review the Backup link in my auto-sig on this post for instructions. If, as you hint, you have no backup, then you likely have already lost that data...backups, like insurance, are neither a reactive nor an optional activity.

when i start my ipad 3 the apple logo appears but then a loading bar appears and it stucks i have restarted it but nothing is happening pleeeeease help me! i love my ipad sooo much.....!!!

    Try this first.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
If that does not help, you may have to restore your iPad.
iTunes: Backing up, updating and restoring iOS software.
If that doesn't work - You will have to use recovery mode
