Max Memory Macbook 2,1

Can I put 2 GB or 4 GB memory in my macbook, info below:
Model Name: MacBook
Model Identifier: MacBook2,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
Processor Speed: 2 GHz
Number Of Processors: 1
Total Number Of Cores: 2
L2 Cache: 4 MB
Memory: 1 GB
Thanks for any help!
Bus Speed: 667 MHz

An update that ell219 may find useful.
After installing the 4G kit in my laptop I can report a huge improvement managing multiple apps and safari windows. I am also making use of my faster internet service.
2G or 4G? Was running 94% of 1G ram, now using 70% of 3G ram. Worth spending and extra $50 on the one extra gig, yeah even though the first two are just $30 each.
Have to say as well, matching chip sets are a good idea, but I found white powder on both sets of ram and am glad I didnt leave one of them in (as in the one 2G senario).

  • Maxed out MacBook pro or Mid level MacBook pro with Retina?

I am entering my first year in university in the next couple weeks. I am going to be studying commerce for the next 4 years. I want a macbook that will last me for the 4 years and still be a good product at that time period. Now I am wondering if I should spend $2000  on the maxed out MacBook pro or 2600 for the midlevel MacBookmacbook pro with Retina display. Looking forward to great feedback. Thanks

It depends on how far you want to go - and how much you want to spend - in maxing out the computer. Let me visit the Apple Store -
The 'base model' you should go with is the:
    15-inch: 2.6 GHz
    2.6GHz quad-core Intel Core i7
    Turbo Boost up to 3.6GHz
    8GB 1600MHz memory
    750GB 5400-rpm hard drive
    Intel HD Graphics 4000
NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M with 1GB of GDDR5 memory
    Built-in battery (7 hours)
This will be a 'stock' item and has the maximum amount of RAM that Apple will install and is $2,199. The only modifcation to make on this model is the CPU and hard drive, as it also comes with the maxed out VRAM for the NVIDIA graphics card. I wouldn't go for the extra speed bump on the CPU - it's just not worth it. What is worth the extra money is an uprade to the hard drive - from the 750GB 5400-rpm to the 750GB 7200-rpm for an extra $50. If you really want to max it out, of course, you could add the $900 option of the 512GB SSD, but I wouldn't do that - simply too much to pay. So for $2,249 you could get:
    15-inch: 2.6 GHz
    2.6GHz quad-core Intel Core i7
    Turbo Boost up to 3.6GHz
    8GB 1600MHz memory
    750GB 7200-rpm hard drive
    Intel HD Graphics 4000
NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M with 1GB of GDDR5 memory
    Built-in battery (7 hours)
...and have a very fast (not warp speed, but fast) computer that should you ever decide to upgrade, you can.
As for the Retina display, it's simply something that I would not invest in at this time. The 'base' model, with only 8GB of RAM is $2,799.00. Increase that RAM to 16GB, and you're looking at $2,999. The extra $750 just isn't worth it. And with few applications taking advantage of the Retina display (if they ever do) you're going to be looking at pixelated tools, text, etc., for who knows how many years. You could get by running only Apple applications, I suppose, but I'm just not ready to be placed in that kind of restrictive mode... are you?
    Just my 2¢, again...

  • MS 6147 max memory and disk sizes

For the MS 6147 can anybody confirm the max Hard disk size and max memory.
It will not recognise the 40Gb HD I am trying to fit, and only recognises half of the 256Mb memeory simm I have fitted.
The BIOS version is 1.9 but I think that is a 'special' by Packard Bell.  The MSI BIOS download site makes no mention of disk problems rectified right up to V1.8 which is the latest, with the exception of one for the ZX chipset only which addresses EDMA 66 problem.
Anybody got a definitive answer on this?

    Supports a maximum memory size of 256MB (8M x 8) or
       512MB (16M x 4) registered DIMM only
how many chips on dimm is what counts with older boards
go to drive makers web site get jumper settings to limit it to 32gb and try

    MCSH, welcome to the forum.
If you have 8 GB of memory installed there is nothing else that you can do.  However, here are the processor upgrades for the computer:
    Socket type: LGA 1155
TDP: 35W up to 95W (processor dependent)
Motherboard supports the following processor upgrades:
    Core i3-2xxx/T dual core
    Core i3-2xxx dual core
    Core i5-2xxx quad core
    Core i7-2xxx quad core
    Core G5xx/T dual core
    Core G6xx/T dual core
The quad core processors would be faster than the one that came with the computer.

  • How to Determine Safe Max Memory Limit?

From what I understand, the amount of memory available to your AIR game on a device will vary depending on how many other apps the user is running, the type of device, etc.
So with this in mind, how does one define a safe max memory limit for a given device? What percentage of a device's total RAM can we assume we have access to?
Here are the iOS RAM Specs
    iPod (4th Gen): 128Mb.
    iPad 1: 256 MB
iPad 2, iPod Touch (5th Gen): 512 MB
    iPad3: 1 GB
I already have highly optimized texture atlases using PVRTC ATF for best use of memory, but if you've ever worked with a passionate creative department, you'll know they always want more. I need to be able to tell them exactly how many spritesheets they have to work with for a given device - how would I do this?
NOTE: iPhones/iPod Touches/iPads all have a Unified Memory Architecture which mean that both the CPU and GPU share system memory, which means there is no dedicated GPU GRAM on these devices. So the RAM listed above, I assume, is shared by both the game logic and the GPU.

Update, I've found an Objective C post on Stack Overflow that answers this question
Here are the (rough) max memory limits to expect before an out-of-memory crash will occur:
    iPad1: 127MB/256MB (crash amount/total amount)
    iPad2: 275MB/512MB
    iPad3: 645MB/1024MB
    iPhone4: 325MB/512MB
Note that max memory limit will vary depending on how many apps a user is running, but these figures are a good rough guide. See the Stack Overflow post for more details.

  • Expanding the virtual machine max memory in osx

i just upgraded the memory on my power mac because this java program im using requires alot of memory on the heap. i remember on windows, there is a property file u can tweak to increase the max memory used by the virtual machine, im just wondering if you can do the same with osx (10.2)

Yes - it's in Applications/Utilities and it's called Terminal. Default shell is tcsh but you can download bash and configure it to use that - there are probably other shells out there too.

  • MAX memory 8GB

Hi i have one problem i canot understand why compay HP block support max memory for notebook. Configuration write max 8GB but hardware support 16GB. Chipset support 16GB processors support 16GB and mother board support 16GB. But BIOS BLOCK max memory only 8GB. I test i put 1 DDR3 8GB windows working and can looking if i put 1 8GB and 4GB total 12Gb only worki 8GB. I start find and study this problem to much view forum and understand this lock in BIOS support max memory. After i write insyde and get answer " Insyde Software sells BIOS source code to PC manufacturers who modify the source code to meet their specific BIOS needs. Thus, each PC manufacturer has a unique BIOS. Insyde does not track the changes made to the BIOS by the PC manufacturer because the PC manufacturer has full control over the BIOS features. Your laptop is limited to 8GB because either: 1) HP configured it that way and will not allow additional memory or 2) the processor is limited to work with 8GB. Insyde has no control over the amount of memory allocated."  I ask and want HP help me. I want use my notebook 100% and not have limit use my notebook. I think this do this bad For the buyer. Thanks i think you help.

That is the theoretical configuration of the chipsets. I think you already know that HP has designed the unit (a g6-2003sr) to take no more than an i5-2450M processor and no more than 8 gigs of DDR3-1600. Sometimes the specs on these are conservative and it will in fact take more memory, but that would be an expensive experiment. There is no way it is going to take a 3rd gen i7 Quad Core, though. What is it exactly you want done here? You think that if HP would just write new BIOS you could install these parts you want to install? I don't think it is not that simple although even a new BIOS is not going to happen. I did go back and search the internet and there are posts on the Dell and Asus forums with exactly the same complaints....HM76 chipset 2d gen Intel Core laptops maxxing at 8 gigs when it "could be" 16 gigs. So in the industry this was a common design in 2012.

  • Max Memory Settings Not Working (SQL Server 2008 R2)

    I have 12 GB ram in sql server 2008 R2 of 64 bit server (Windows 2008 R2).
I have set the Max memory setting to 12288 MB Memory setting.
Still the usage of sql server process is around 14  GB.
Is Max memory setting not working?
I have also enabled AWE after all it is 64 bit.
    Thanks

Problem is that: my OS is halting due to this RAM. I have 16 GB of ram and assigning 12 GB to SQL SERVER and rest is using for OS. Please guide me how to get information about actual memory usage from all sql server processes. like
    all CLR etc
    Hi,
Are you also running SSIS/SSAS/SSRS with database engine services. What do you mean by OS is halting ?
If you want to check whether SQL Server is facing memory crunch please have a look at perfmon counters from
    this link
Sys.dm_OS_memory_clerks would be DMV helpful in tracking memory utilized by various processes
I have also enabled AWE after all it is 64 bit. Thanks
Please note AWE doe snot have any notable affect in 64 bit system.
Below will tell you memory used by SQLCLR
    select single_pages_kb + multi_pages_kb + virtual_memory_committed_kb from sys.dm_os_memory_clerks where type = 'MEMORYCLERK_SQLCLR'
Below query will give you memory consumed by various clerk
    SELECT type, SUM(multi_pages_kb)
    FROM sys.dm_os_memory_clerks
    WHERE multi_pages_kb <> 0
    GROUP BY type
    ORDER BY SUM(multi_pages_kb) DESC
Can you reduce max server memory to 11 G and see if it gives some relief

  • How to set JVM max memory setting in JBoss?

We have an old deployment of LiveCycle 7.2 running on Windows 2003 / JBoss.  The max memory is reported as 508mb on the JBoss Management Console.   Anyone have any idea how to change this value.   I tried modifying the jvm.cfg file as well as run.conf in JBoss and modify JAVA_OPTS but it didn't seem to make a difference.

Seems its in the Windows registry at

  • SQL Server Max Memory Settings

    Hi,

    Hi,
I'd like to check if SQL Server will consume memory more than the configured MAX Memory settings? And if so when does SQL consume that and how much would it consume.
    Hi
Can you please tell us what is version and edition of SQL Server here. If it is 2012 its little difficult to reporduce your scenario where SQL Server 2012 will take more than max server memory setting because lots of features which use to take memory
outside buffer pool before SQL 2012 are now changed to take memory from buffer pool. Also quite lot depends on whether system is 32 bit or 64 bit
For SQL Server versions below 2012(not SS2000) you might get lucky with following (taken from
    Here)
    1. COM Objects
    2. SQL Server CLR
    3. Memory allocated by Linked Server OLEDB Providers and third party DLL’s loaded in SQL Server process
    4. Extended Stored Procedures:
    5. Network Packets
    6. Memory consumed by memory managers. If the memory request is greater than 8 KB and needs contiguous allocation.
    7. Backup
If you heavily use above features you might see SQL Server memory utilization crossing above max server memory setting. Of all above SQLCLR and extended stored procs would be my bet. If you use them heavily you might see what you want to. Extended
stored proc has performance issues so use it on your own risk. Use below query to check SQL server memory utilization( works from SS 2008 and above)
    select
    (physical_memory_in_use_kb/1024)Memory_usedby_Sqlserver_MB,
    (locked_page_allocations_kb/1024 )Locked_pages_used_Sqlserver_MB,
    (total_virtual_address_space_kb/1024 )Total_VAS_in_MB,
    process_physical_memory_low,
    process_virtual_memory_low
    from sys. dm_os_process_memory

Im trying to monitor memory usage of my app. The memoryUsage class says that max memory can be undefined (see http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/docs/api/java/lang/management/MemoryUsage.htm), how can this be, isnt it always
-XMx (or 64MB) if not defined.

You are thinking of a specific implementation of Java (the Sun implementation). Are then any implementations that actually use the physical memory availble as required ?The beautiful things is that it doesn't matter if there are actually any implementations that behave differently. The standard clearly defines what such a implementation should do and therefore it is legal. If you want to write code that works on all implementations you should probably handle that case as well.
Personally I use only the Sun JDK, the IBM JDK and the OpenJDK (IcedTea) and those three have a maximum at all time, as far as I know. But there are other implementations out there where I wouldn't be so sure.

  • VM Hangs Following Change To Max memory

    Hi,
Hoping someone can shed some light on this issue. I'm running OEL 5u5 x64 ( installed using OVM ) on Oracle VM 2.2. I've installed the OS with no bother. I've then powered off the VM, and increased the Max Memory setting. The VM will now no longer boot past the image loader.
Returning the Max Memory setting to it's original value, fixes everything. I've tested this on existing, and new VM's.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks
    John

OK, fixed this issue. Found a solution in the release notes for Oracle VM Server 2.2.1 ( section 6.24 ).
However, does anyone know how to make changes to the vm's config file via OVM?
