Maximum number of editions - where is the limit?

Using Oracle 11.2.0.3 SE
With regards to edition based redefinition, is anyone aware about a limit to the number of editions one can have in a single database?
I cound't find any hint to that in the doc http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/appdev.112/e25518/adfns_editions.htm
Let's assume we have 1500 editions and switch the current session to one of them. Each edition has a different version of a certain packages.
I'm just talking about having several versions of pl/sql code (triggers, packages, etc.). But not about cross edition triggers.
Is anybody aware of any issues when useing multiple editions, like performance related issues?

I decided to run some tests.
using code similar to this one
begin
  for i in 1..1000 loop
    execute immediate 'create edition Test'||to_char(i,'FM0000')||' AS CHILD OF Test'||to_char(i-1,'FM0000');
  end loop;
end;
This worked.
Then I decided to create some more editions. And finally got the expected error message.
ORA-38812: Höchstzahl der Editions erreicht
In my database (11.2.0.3) the max number of editions is 2000.
select count(*) from dba_editions;
  COUNT(*)
      2000
Such a clean value looks like a parameter setting. But it seems that this is not exposed to us.
select * from v$parameter where regexp_like(name,'edition');
no rows returned

    I would imagine most people submitting such a large number of jobs are using something more robust like Qube:

    Qmaster is very buggy and would need a complete rewrite before it could be qualified for use in such an environment.

    Hi,
    You have hit the same problem as I.
    Unfortunately you wont beable to easy resolve this unless you are using TestStand 3.0.
    see here for answer:

    Using TestStand 3.0 the problem goes away as it is capable of handling more than the 256 step types.

  • @mtownsen, what is possible, where is the limit

    Hello Tom,
    there are different opinions and every person sais something different.
    Which features does the standard editon or standard one edition support, the "Oracle Database 10g Express Edition" will not support?
    In your PodCast you said, beside the RAM, CPU and userspace limit all three support the same. The Release Notes you had on your site tells something different.
    Is the spacelimit of 4 GB a hard limit or a soft limit? In 4GB limitation questions tkyte wrote, that it is a soft limit. So what can I do to be informed when my limit is reached. Should I check the Database every day?
    In case of the limit is reached: Can I then go to your shop, buy, for example a one year license for the "Oracle Database 10g standard edition one" and install this OVER the Express Edition? Will it be such simple?
    Thank you for you answer,
    Christian

    I will compile a complete list of what is not supported in XE and post in a day or two.
    As Tom has shown, the 4 Gb space limit is a hard limit. We will consider adding a 'space left' indicator to the home page. You can also check via the command line running a query.
    Upgrade, for awhile, will consist of installing one of the licensed editions, and then running exp/imp to migrate the data/applications. We will provide documentation on how to do this by the production release of XE.
    At some stage in the future, when you install one of the licensed editions, it will detect that you have XE installed, and then offer to upgrade it for you via the Database Upgrade Utility.

  • Maximum Number of Blog Entries on the Main Blog Page

    I would like to increase the number of Blog entries on my Main Blog page beyond the limit of 50 allowed through the Inspector Panel in iWeb 09. Does anyone know a work-around to this limitation?
    Thanks, -JAS

    Try creating a new blog page that looks identical to the current blog you have. Then once you start a new blog on the new blog template you just created, simply make a button or text link to your other blog. If I'm not mistaken you can create as many blog templates as you wish.
    Please let me know if I'm wrong.

  • Maximum number of records displayed on the browser using Query Designer.

    When you display a query on the web using Query Designer is there a maximum limit of how many records (rows) it can display? For example, can it handle 25 million records?
    Thanks.

    Hi Sebastian,
    I still find such a requirement weird as one cannot definitely go thru' so much of data at a time - it would thus always make sense to perhaps filter on some criteria which would make analysis & perhaps even download much faster. The limit as I understand is approx 750,000 data cells. Maybe the below link & SAP notes can help validate
    Limitation in No. Of data cells displayed in BEx Analyzer
    SAP Notes :-
    Note 1040454 - Front-end memory requirement of the BEx Analyzer
    Note 1030279 - Reports with very large result sets/BI Java

  • Where is the EXACT version number shown?  Where is the menu link to the Help file?  Why is there no scroll bar?  The new iTunes is terrible in more ways than I can list... how do I switch back to version 10?

    The newest iTunes version has no Help option.  Why?  And, no ability to find out the version number.
    The new iTunes, when in album view in Windows 7, has NO SCROLLBARS, so it is impossible to scroll the albums.  Why?
    Answer these questions, as I am an AAPL shareholder and I am NOT happy with these and other changes you've made to iTunes.

    The newest iTunes version has no Help option.  Why?  And, no ability to find out the version number.
    You may need to bring up your Menu Bar to see the Help menu.
    If you're using 11.0.x, click on the wee boxy icon up in the top-left corner of your iTunes to see the "Show Menu Bar" control, as per the following screenshot:
    Once you've got your Help menu showing, go "Help > About iTunes" and wait for the version number to scroll up from the bottom of the screen, as per the previous versions.

  • What is the maximum number of Call Types, Skill Groups and Campaigns created in ICM 8.0.1 and 8.0.3

    Hi All,
    What is the maximum number of Call Types, Skill Groups and Campaigns created in ICM 8.0.1 and 8.0.3?
    In which the above requested information will be available??

    Oh I see. So I guess what you are saying is that is
    Director's way of compressing vector numbers. Also, as to what you
    were saying about the number 3000 is sure not the limit for vector
    units, I think I was just jumping the gun considering that I only
    glanced at the script error, and then clicked on the debug button
    to see where the error happened. Then once I looked at the varibles
    in the varible window, I saw these weird numbers with the e3 at the
    end of them, and I just thought that it could not add the vectors
    together with the e3 at the end of each vector unit. However, to
    make a long story short, I detached the script and reattached it
    which did no create the error again, and I learned that Director
    can add vector units together that have an e3 at the end of each
    vector unit. So thanks for clarifying what the e3 means.

  • Install HRCS9.0 and PT8.53 with Linux Issue: the files intiPT853.ora and initHRCS90.ora: maximum number of DB_FILES exceeded

    Folks,
    Hello. I have installed PeopleTools 8.53 with Oracle Linux 5.10 successfully. The entire PeopleTools  runs correctly in browser at the beginning.
    After I set up HCM and Campus Solution 9.0 Database Instance named HRCS90 in Linux successfully, PeopleTools 8.53 Database Instance PT853 cannot be mounted. Its error message is below:
    SQL> startup
    ORACLE instance started.

    ORA-00059: maximum number of DB_FILES exceeded
    In the file /home/user/OracleDB_Home/dbs/initPT853.ora, its parameter db_files has 3 values: small 400, medium 1021 and large 1500. The initial value is 1021 and it works correctly at the beginning.  But after set up another instance HRCS90, the above error message comes up and instance PT853 cannot mounted. I change the value of db_files from 1021 to 1500 in the file initPT853.ora and restart OS Linux. But get the same error as below:
    SQL> startup
    ORACLE instance started.

    As we see above, the instance HRCS90 works corretly and PT853 cannot start up. The parameter DB_FILES of the file initPT853.ora has an issue.
    My question is:
    Because 1021 and 1500 are not enough to startup instance PT853, what value should be used for DB_FILES of the file initPT853.ora  ?
    Thanks.

    I'm sorry, but I don't understand what does "Instance" mean here.

    Are you not using a spfile ? Does the file contain really the 3 values ? What is the last ? Have you checked the value in the database side "show parameter db_files" ?
    >But after set up another instance HRCS90, the above error message comes up and instance PT853 cannot mounted
    Again, I have no idea what it means.

    Again, I don't understand what are HRCS90 and PT853 exactly. Cannot help.

    I'm sure, you don't have an issue with this parameter, 1500 files in the database is quite huge number. I built a demo recently, the default value 1021 was ok for me. You should have done something wrong somewhere.
    Nicolas.

  • Maximum number of Sessions ever reached in the last two days

    DB version:11gR1
    We are studying the number of sessions created by one of our JAVA oltp application. We would like to know the maximum number of sessions reached in the last two days.
    I can see max_utilization column from the query
    select * from v$resource_limit where resource_name='processes'But i don't know the time interval (no of days) on which this value is based upon.

    Hi,
    One alternate option will be noting the value before you start the experiment using following statement.
    select value from v$sysstat where name = 'user calls';
    And running this SQL after you are done with making calls. Then you can subtract the two values to get the users calls made between the two times. Keep in mind that this will include all calls made to the database.

    Is there a maximum number of movies allowed in the iTunes movie database - or what?
    This is not a disk space issue - it is specifically related to the number of movie titles supported in iTunes.
