MDMP SPUM4 Vocabulary Assignment, necessary before upgrade?

I have a question about SPUM4 when doing an Combined UC&UPG on a 46c system.
As per the manual you have to run all the scans to complete SPUM4 in Prepare before starting the upgrade.
But do you have to perform the language assignment of the vocabulary list before the upgrade?
Is it possible to do this using SPUMG after the upgrade?
Basically I am being pushed for time and the project team is not ready to do the language assignments during Prepare. So it would be easier for me if I could do the scans and collate all the information required then perform the upgrade. Once the upgrade is complete, then allow the upgrade team to assign the languages post upgrade using the SPUMG transaction.
I am right in thinking that the vocabulary list has to be completely processed before conversion, this is because the words will use the global fallback which may not be right?

I've done the CU&UC the last year, and if i remember ok the SPUM4 is before the upgrade,......and after the upgrade there is the SPUMG,........
You can search more info in other posts of the 2008 year with my problems in CU&UC.

Hi Chris,
you have to do the vocabulary assignment in the SPUM4 environment (on 4.6c), if you decide to use CU&UC. In CU&UC it does not make sense to do the assignment after the upgrade.
In case you go for TU&UC, you have to do the upgrade first and then do the vocabulary assignment.
Regarding vocabulary maintenance:
It would be possible to even leave ALL language fields empty in the vocab and go on with the scans. However this will probably produce millions of entries in the reprocess logs (after the reprocess scan), which cannot be handled. The same will be valid for transaction SUMG, which needs to be executed after the conversion (see UCG). This will result in a completely meaningless test for the SPUM4/SUMG.
If your scope for this test is 100% concentrated on export / import downtime, then this might make sense. However if you are looking for a complete CU&UC test, this does not make sense.
On the other hand side, there are only a few customers who really manage to maintain the vocab 100% - so a small percentage of unassigned words is usually left over. But the goal should be, to get this as low as possible !
Normally in the first trial, the number of the unassigned words in the vocab can be relatively high. But the result of the reprocess scan can be used to assign additional words in the vocab (and rerun the reprocess scan after additional maintenance).
Of course this will take time ! But if you want to avoid problems with many reprocess logs and repair logs, I would recommend to spend some time on maintenance of the vocab.
What happens, if a word is not assigned in the vocab ?
1) It will produce at least one (probably multiple) reprocess logs
2) R3load will use the fallback code page for the conversion of one or multple entries and it will write a message in the according xml-file
3) In SUMG, the according entries (again one or multiple) will show up in the manual repair

Hi Chris,
I don't recommend to continue with the upgrade unless your data has a minimum amount of characters which are outside of the fallback code page. As a final step of the preconversion and during the export of the database, SAP will write reprocess logs for each record which has no valid language/codepage assignment. You can maintain the reprocess logs after the upgrade in transaction SUMG to convert the data. There is no option to maintain the vocabulary after the upgrade in the unicode system. The vocabulary is only used during the export of the database to convert the data. After the upgrade, you can only convert the table records one by one. This can be a lot of work and should be completed during the downtime for end-users.
I'm the project leader for a similar project (4.6c MDMP > ECC6.0 Unicode). We plan to go live in ~8 weeks. We use codepages 1100, 8300 and 8400.

Is a bootable clone necessary before upgrading to Lion (also Parallels 6)?

I'm thinking about upgrading to Lion on the MBP and the MacPro where I am running Parallels 6 with Windows 7.
Two questions:
1. How bad of an idea is it to do this without running a backup that includes a full bootable clone? I have a full backup of the machines but I think (?) someone advised doing a bootable clone before doing this upgrade. Not sure but wondering if anyone has any good advice on this. I guess the need for the bootable clone (assuming I am moving to Lion) would be in case I need to reload all the settings and everything from the year and a half I spent getting everything to my liking (no small amount of work)? I mean, I wouldn't re-load the bootable clone and then only work off of Snow Leopard so I guess (?) I am asking if there is other info in the bootable clone that makes it different from a normal backup in such an instance.
2. Does anyone know of any definitive documentation that tells me whether to upgrade to Parallels 7 first or if I go to Lion first for the upgrade? Does one need to go before the other?

If your Lion upgrade hoses, like it usually does for those upgrading over a complicated Snow Leopard, a hold the option key bootable clone of Snow Leopard on a external drive will get you using the computer in the time it takes to boot off of it.
It will also allow you to completely erase the internal drive and reverse clone Snow Leopard right back on.
If you do have to erase Lion, make sure you do it via the Partiton tab, so the entire drive is erased, not just the Lion OS X Partition.

You'll have to talk to Parallels, but if the software works with 10.6 and 10.7 then it's best to upgrade to the 10.6/10.7 version on 10.6 (make a clone first before doing anything) then checking it out well before updating the clone.
Take your time, investigate all your software before making a leap, a clone or two will most certainly be of valuable assistance.
Move slowly and carefully, don't do too much at once or you won't know what is causing your issues.
Remember software like Parallels and others install kext files that can break on OS X upgrades, if you get a gray screen, simply hold Shift key and reboot to get into the machine.
Ideally it's best to install Snow Leopard fresh, then upgrade to Lion, then install all programs then user files last, hopefully you won't have to do all that but it is the most reliable method of insuring a pristine system and upgrade free of the unknowns.

SPUM4 Issues before upgrade to ECC6.0

Hi All,
I am trying to do vocabulary check in SPUM4 before upgrade for ECC6.0. I have 3 Development clients 010,100,110.
My issue is that, I am not sure in which client I should do this vocabulary check. Is it in 000 or individual clients.I got this doubt because , I see the same texts in all the clients.
Can anybody help me in resolving this issue.

We did a similar upgrade 2 years ago - 4.7 to ECC 6.0. We had also implemented cash managment on 4.7. The configuration for cash management in 6.0 is the same as in 4.7, so we did not have to make any changes to that. Also, I looked back at our upgrade testing documentation and we did not have any issues related to cash management.

The Portal we are going to use is unicode enabled.
So this raises the question: "Do we need an Unicode Conversion first?".

Is it necessary to upgrade to Maverick on a brand new mac book pro? This download is taking FOREVER..I have never had any problems with any of my other computers taking so long to download anything. Can I cancel the download once it has started and if I do cancel it, will I still be able to download Pages on my new computer that has Mountain Lion?

You can upgrade if you want. It's an upgrade and not an update, so there's no reason to think that it will provide you improvements. Moreover, it may make that some apps stop working, so be very careful before upgrading and check that everything is in order: the hard drive is working correctly, you have got a backup, you have got the most recent version of your apps, etc.
You can cancel the download easily. To do it, open the Launchpad, hold the Option (Alt) key and press the X button above the Mavericks installer. If you are not sure about upgrading, the worst thing you can do is to upgrade.
Respecting to Pages, this is a different thing, because the Pages version available in the Mac App Store needs OS X Mavericks, so you won't be able to download it if you stay with OS X Mountain Lion. You can look for another application like LibreOffice or you can purchase iWork '09 on a DVD

I'm on a Macbook Pro and all of my software is up-to-date.
The photos and events, etc. appear to be present in my photo library, but I cannot see the actual images--only an outlined placeholder.

Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Include the option to rebuild the thumbnails. This can take 3 or 4 goes to work.

Bug in Inventory Audit Report before upgradation from SAP B1 2004B to 2005B

We upgraded SAP Business One 2004B to SAP Business One 2005B on 26/05/2007. Earlier we were having SAP B1 2004 in which therer was no Inventory Audit Report function in Inventory Reports. After upgradation if we take Inventory Audit Report, the closing quantity of the stock is shown is correct but the value for negative stock quantity is wrong for period before upgradation i.e.upto 26/05/2007. The difference is exactly double of the stock value of that item. The closing quantity and value is OK if we run the report for the period after upgradation i.e. from 27/05/2007 to till date.
For e.g.
If we make A.P.Credit Memo for an item qty.20 value INR 20,000/- based on A.P.Invoice and take Inventory Audit Report, the qty.is posted as -20 but the value is posted as INR 20,000/- but actually it should be INR -20,000/-. That is the value is taken twice of the original value.

So now I went back to the screen that orginally asked me for my Apple ID and passort, and instead of entering my Apple ID i entered the email address associated with it and the new password. It now tells me "You can't sign in because your account was disabled for security reasons. To enable your account, reset your passwort at iforgot.apple.com"
I have now changed my password twice and it still doesn't work.
Until I get this resolved my tablet is useless.

Before Upgrading to ARD 2.0 .....

Before upgrading from remote desktop 1.2 - 2.0 enable VNC port 5900 - 5902 as well as ARD 3283 on the workstation. ARD v 2.0 requires both v 1.2 did not. If like me you did not know this you can copy the com.apple.sharing.firewall.plist (found in /Library/Preferences/ ) from a mac with these ports open and replace the com.apple.sharing.firewall.plist on the mac that does not using ARD 2.0 as the copy function does work - then reboot.

Shouldn't this port access change have been part of the install process for the ARD 2.0 client software? I have been puzzling for days trying to figure out what I was doing wrong.
According to KB article 108047, ports 3283, 5900 and 5988 need to be open to get full access to client computers from ARD. I'm not sure what each of these ports is used for.
Now that I've opened the firewall to those ports using the Sharing preferences, I can access all the Macs on my LAN with no problem.
