MediaSmart panel

I have a HP Pavilion dvt8 laptop. The MediaSmart panel about the F Keys with volume control, wireless and bluetooth control are having problems. They activate themselves when no one is touching them. It shuts off my bluetooth and wireless and also the mute button will activate. It doesn't mute the system but the button still comes on. The bluetooth and wireless button will come on and go off on it's own. The onscreen display for the sound will popup and flash looks like about four times a second. Just flashing. If I'm typing something like yahoo messenger it will focus it's sound properties window for lets say like treble and I can't type. I had to disable the MediaSmart onscreen software in the startup items to keep it from doing this. Any ideas. I'm sure it's hardware.

Mediasmart Panel Glitch: Any way to make it stop???

I am using an HP Pavillion dv8 Laptop. Included with the laptop was a Mediasmart Panel which includes a Treble/Bass slider and a button to turn Wireless on and off. I've heard there is a common issue with the panel were the Treble/Bass button will short and act like it's being turned on and off, as will the wireless.
This issue occurs fairly frequently on my laptop and I'm becoming increasingly annoyed with it. Is there any way to get the glitched part of the Panel disconnected/make it stop turning on and off on its own? I still want to be able to mute/turn on my sound and move my volume up and down, I just don't want to be fighting with the treble/bass slider and having to deal with wireless being turned on and off while I am trying to surf the internet.

HP Mediasmart DVD failure

I cannot play Blu-Ray or DVD's with HP Smart Media, since I upgraded to Win7. I either says "No disc..." or "File not supported".
I can play DVD's with VLC or something, but that dosn't help with Blu-Rays -can anyone help me?

From the Start Menu, open the Control Panel and click on Folder Options. Click on the View tab and click the radio button next to 'Show hidden files folders and drives'. Apply the change.
Now, from the Start Menu, click Computer and double click your C drive. Browse to Program Data....Hewlett-Packard.....Media. Inside the Media folder delete the DVD folder if there is one.
Close the window and again double click your C drive and browse to Users....your user name.....AppData.....Local and delete MediaSmart DVD folder if there is one.
Close the window and again double click your C drive and browse to Users....your user name.....AppData.....Local....Hewlett-Packard.....Media. Again open the Media folder and delete the DVD folder if there is one.
Now go back to the Control Panel, Folder Option, click the View tab and re-hide hidden files and folders.
Run ccleaner and use the Registry cleaner to analyze and then Fix any new issues.
Restart your PC and try running the first installer for HP MediaSmart DVD that you downloaded.

Uninstalled MediaSmart TV, Now I can't reinstall it, Please help

Hello, I have a HP HDX X18T-1100 CTO. My TV audio was out of sync, so I did an update for the TV. Then error messages for the TV kept coming up, so I decided to uninstall the MediaSmart TV from the control panel and reinstall it using the HP drivers. The HP driver sp37430 failed to install saying that I have a new version on the system. I've also tried sp42505, sp43648, sp43595, sp43747, and sp4877, and some other sp files to no avail. I'm using Vista Home Premium 32 Bit. Please help me reinstall the MediaSmart TV. By the way, the other MediaSmart applications are working including the MediaSmart DVD, Music, Video, and Photos. It is just my TV that is gone. Thank you in advance for your help.
If I can't reinstall the MediaSmart TV. What other programs can I use to use my TV Tuner. The TV Tuner shows up in my control panel. Thanks

First of all, this forum is not very helpful. It doesn't look like there are any HP technicians assigned to support the forums.
Anyway, I was able to fix my problem by myself. The MediaSmart system is not as straightforward as other typical programs.
Here was the solution that worked for me. I did a system restore and was able to get the TV feature to return to the MediaSmart program. However, it was still not working, although the option was back. Then I ran sp42505 and it fixed the the TV. It also seemed to have fixed the audio sync problem.
sp42505 was not even offered in the software files available for my notebook. The update that was available from HP for my notebook was what caused the problem in the first place. Actually, it was the problem with the audio sync that got me to screw around with everything. Then the update caused the resident program failure issue. Thanks HP for providing faulty software and then offering updates to make it even worse. And finally, not provide any guidance to fix the problem.

Mediasmart dvd 3.0 broken HDMI passthrough in windows 7; solution found

I have a dv6-1253cl and was successfully bitstreaming 5.1 DD to my Onkyo TX-SR606 receiver from blu-rays in mediasmart dvd under vista home premium 64. This did not work initially under vista. This laptop has an ati mobility 4650 graphics card, but the default microsoft hd audio driver would not configure for surround sound or streaming dts or DD under "manage audio devices" in the control panel. Installing the realtek ati hdmi driver fixed this problem. I then followed hd1's instructions, setting mediasmart dvd's audio option to "hdmi passthrough" before inserting the blu ray. Unfortunately, when upgrading to windows 7, this stopped working. mediasmart dvd 3.0E would only send 2-channel pcm to the receiver, or it would simply freeze and crash. Reinstalling the sound card drivers did not fix the problem.
I have determined that this is a problem with mediasmart dvd 3.0 for windows 7. I uninstalled 3.0, and reinstalled mediasmart dvd 2.2 for vista 64, and everything worked again!
So the major lesson is, if you upgraded to windows 7, use mediasmart 2.2 for vista if you want surround sound.
I'd appreciate any feedback if anybody else has had this problem, and if this solution works for anybody else.

Everything on the laptop is configured correctly, it even shows that there are 7 channels of sound available on the Denon receiver or 5 if you like, it makes no difference. The only thing that has changed is the Media Smart software. I either have to revert back to the version that worked and not play Ice Age 3 or keep the old version and let SlySoft remove all the copy protection and region code; and then it will play. This is what I wrote on the CyberLink web forums :
After reading the hundreds of people having problems playing Blu-ray discs on their laptops, including myself, it was easier to cut my losses and give up. At present I am using Media Smart which is a cheap version of a CyberLink product and since the latest update I have no more surround sound in my home theatre. I only use my laptop to play region "B" blu-ray's. I rolled back to the previous version and it works fine. I also have Slysoft and that helps a lot in removing the region codes and all that frustrating protection crap !
So here's a revelation. Stop using your laptop's to play blu-ray movies. The cost of the Cyberlink software is a around 100.00 bucks. I just bought a cheap Sony player for that cost (BDPS360) and it plays everything. The cost alone for my time trouble shooting is already in the hundred's of dollars.
Did it ever occur to anybody that this is being done on purpose because the studios don't want people playing their precious blu-rays on laptop's because they are too easily copied on them. I have done it and as the cost of 50 gig discs fall it will make it more cost effective to do this.
It is also in Cyberlink's best interest not to find any solution to your problems when they can charge 30 dollars for useless phone support etc.

If you must watch a movie on your laptop just use a DVD. Most screens are only 15 inches big diagonally and a regular DVD will look just fine. The biggest is 18 inches and it still looks OK. And yes it pisses me off too that My blu-ray player in my laptop is so problematic, but I have had enough !! CyberLink, Hewlett Packard and the Hollywood studios can go to hell !!
This is harsh stuff, but after spending a little over 2700.00$ it should bloody well work and work properly ! It's incompetence, I am a very patient person, but things like this are intolerable.
Maybe one of the moderators will remove this. I will see what happens.

HP Mediasmart EX485 - grey icon in system tray on all PCs

Nevermind.. I fixed it by shutting down the server, removing the 3 drives, blowing/vacumming out the unit, reinstalling, and restarting. Didn't see any excessive dust, but... Voila!
Two nights ago when my MediaSmart EX485 started up on schedule, the tray icons for the WHS connector stayed grey on all 5 of the connected PCs instead of turning green as it usually does. I am able to RDS in to the server with no problem. I am able to open the console using the Control Center. The status there is green. No backups have been performed for the last 2 nights. On the backup panel, all of the PCs are greyed out indicating they aren't connected. I tried deleting the connector from one laptop and reinstalling, but now the installation won't finish - says it is unable to configure the backup. I don't know what else to do. Tried calling the tech support line, but after about a minute of music, it clicks over to a busy signal... Please help!

I gave that a try, and changed my SSID. On my notebook, it of course lost the Internet connection, I saw the new wireless network, and typed in the PW and it connected without issue. However the DT which is where I am having the issue, is still doing the same thing. I am connected to Internet as that is where Im typing this email from, but the 5 bars in the lower are still show that X even tho Im connected. It does say the Security types do not
match, so I would go in and change to WPA Personal, TKIP, and type in the password, but still nothing. I have noticed that when I enable and disable my Wireless adapter in the Desktop, 2 icons come back, one for the adapter, and one called. Microsoft Virtual WiFI miniport adapter, which I have disabled, but it does not make any diff if its enabled or not.

Unable to reinstall HP MediaSmart Photo/Video/Movie after System Recovery

My NoteBook originally came w/ Vista Ultimate & HP gave me a a disk for upgrade to Windows 7.
Doing another System Recovery and while upgrading to Windows 7 it was recomended I uninstall HP MediaSmart Photo/Video/Movie since it might not be compatible w/ W7, which I did. After recovery/upgrade I find out HP has me reinstalling the same version. However, it will not install. I get the following message:
"Error applying transforms, Verify that the specified paths are valid. C:\HP\tmp\src\1033.mst"

The download page for a lot of notebooks often has multiple entries for the same software - for both drivers and other software, just install the latest version.
When you believe that you have installed all relevant software and drivers, you can always check by opening windows Control Panel and then opening Device Manager - look for any entry here that has a warning icon ( yellow triangle ) next to it. If you find any, right click on the problem device and select Properties. Click the Details tab, choose Hardware Ids from the dropdown box and post back with the details shown under Value.

I love this notebook however it can't play my Blu-Rays! I think it messed up my Fast 5 Blue-Ray disc..
So I bought a cheap blu-ray movie (thank you Black Friday) and still nothing! It loads up fine until the movie actually plays then nothing happens, for awhile until I open task manager..

Yes I have the latest MediaSmart update since I've attempted to update but was not available.
It seems others are faced with this problem and have even downloaded different players.
Oh yes one more thing, the DVD player itself works fine. It's just the Blu-Ray player..

If you're using HP MediaSmart DVD to play the Blu ray disc, try the following.
HP now provides a version of Cyberlinks PowerDVD 10 which seems to be a better solution. Download the installer for this on the link below and save it to your Desktop.

When the download has completed, open windows Control Panel, open Programs and Features, right click the entry for HP MediaSmart DVD and select Uninstall - when this process has completed, restart the notebook.
When windows has reloaded, double-click the installer for PowerDVD 10 to start the installation. When this has completed, see if your Blu ray disc now plays OK.

How to disable HP MediaSmart?

I have an HP laptop with HP MediaSmart, but I don't use the software nor do I want to use it. (I use third-party software like Media Player Classic)
Is there a way to disable MediaSmart, so that when I put a DVD into my laptop it won't open that up?

You can try this method which should work:
Go to Control Panel->Administrative Tools->System Configuration->Startup (Tab). Search for HP MediaSmart and have it unchecked.
While you are at it, you may also wish to uncheck softwares which you do not need to load upon startup. Let me know if it works for you!

Uninstall MediaSmart SmartMenu from your system or uncheck it from startup list as showed below:
Click Start .
In the Search field, type: msconfig and when the option appears in the menu, press Enter .
In the System Configuration window, click the Startup tab.
Find it on the list and uncheck it.
Click OK.
This steps will switch off on-screen visuals, but for this problem there isn't any better solution for now.

HP MediaSmart DVD crashes

HP MediaSmart DVD is temperamental, choppy. It hangs up, sometimes crashes playing DVDs on my Win 7 64-bit HPE-210f.

You are having a problem with media smart not working correctly.
You might need to update media smart.
Here is a link to the update.
If the update does not help you can uninstall and reinstall media smart.
Go to start type uninstall a program, hit enter.
Go down the list and find media smart, right click and uninstall.
Close control panel.
Go to start, type recovery manager, hit enter.
Click on program reinstallation.
Go down the list and install media smart.
Clicking the White Kudos star on the left is a way to say Thanks!

Mediasmart server EX495 Blank Contents screen

Ofr the last week or so, I can not get the content screen to show after connecting from any of my clients. I getthe password screen when I try to get to the console. then the progress screen appears. But then instead of the console screen I get the background screen only no matter how long I leave it be. It never goes beyond that.
At the same time, using any of the MS Office applications to load an office document from the shared folders on the server freezes the applicaton. Even Outlook 2007 freezes just opening it (I have Outlook email to the shared folders on the server).
The only remedy I can find is to manually reboot the server which resolves the problem for about 30 minutes then it all happens over again. This full problem started this morning. Oh yes, all the lights on teh server indicate a go status. And when I reboot the server and can get into the console, everything is in order.
I just bought this one when me original Mediasmart server EX470 with the original WHS software w/PP2 finally crashed and I could not revive it (RIP).
Anyne else having a similar problem?

I wanted to provide an update. Spotify 1.0.1.1060.gc75ebdfd appears to have changed behavior. HTTP proxy support appears to be removed now (I can't even play music using my previous prefs). I can enable my HTTPS proxy by editing the prefs file as before. I should be able to do this now through Spotify's settings, but it looks like there's a bug in the settings panel where it seems to require a username and password before saving (my proxy doesn't require a username and password). This time, change the @http back to @https. Here's how my proxy settings now look under 1.0.1.1060.gc75ebdfd:
network.proxy.addr="proxyout.xxx.xxx:8080@https"
network.proxy.mode=2
This allows me to play music and view most images. The only remaining problem is that now I'm still seeing instances where album art and other images aren't downloaded. It's not as prevalent as before, but I do see it when browsing, for example, the News tab under Browse.

Links not getting displayed in the contextual panel

I have created a contextual panel inside a transparent container. And created a method in the same view supply_values of type supply function to supply the values to the panel.Inside the method I have coded like:

NODE->BIND_TABLE( TAB ).
Also in the context of the view I have created a node and supplied the method 'supply_values' in the supply function.Under the node I have 2 attributes named text and enabled. Text is of string type and enabled is of boolean type. In the properties of the contextual panel I have bound the visible property with the enabled attribute.
Now when I am running this application , links are not getting displayed in the contextual panel. Though when I debug TAB contains the values. Please suggest if I have missed out something or I need to look into the properties of the contextual panel. Any pointers will be really helpful.

I have already bound the enable property of the panel with a context attribute of type wdy_boolean but it is still not working.

Problem with Paining in a Panel in a JFrame.

So I can paint directly on a JFrame, and I can paint on a class that extends Panel, and put the Panel on a JFrame. But if I try to Repaint the Panel it won't show on the JFrame. Do I have to do anything to the JFrame to show the changes to the objects inside as well?

I'm not sure if you've done this, but don't change the paint method when using Swing components, use paintComponent instead. By default, the JFrame will paint its children. Just remember whenever overriding any of the paintComponent methods to call super.paintComponent(g) first.

Such problems never arose during two years of using LTR-4 and nothing else has changed on my computer. I have a pretty simple system with only a few plug-ins, which are usually not in operation. I have 12GB of RAM in my Windows 7 PC. I could illustrate these problems with screen shots if you would tell me how to submit screen shots. Otherwise I will try to describe the problems in words.
The problem is clearly cumulative, growing worse as usage time passes. Compare View feature gradually slows down and eventually seems to choke as my work session proceeds. If I Exit LTR and re-enter and start all over, things will work normally for maybe 30 minutes, but then the Compare View feature begins to become very slow to respond. In a recent example with my screen full of thumbnails in Library mode I highlighted two images to compare. LTR started to open the Compare View screen by first having the top row of thumbnails disappear to be replaced by the "SELECT" and "CANDIDATE" words in their spaces (but no images), but Compare View never succeeded in gaining control of the screen. After some seconds the top row of thumbnails reasserted its position and the Compare View windows disappeared. But LTR kept trying to bring them back. Again the top row of thumbnails would go away, Select and candidate would reappear, try again, and give up. This went on for at least 2-3 minutes before I tried to choose File and Exit, but even that did not initially want to respond. It doesn't like to accept other commands when it's trying to open Compare View. Finally it allowed me to exit.
To experiment I created a new catalog of 1100 images. After 30-40 minutes, the Compare View function began to operate very slowly. With left and right side panels visible and two thumbnails highlighted, hitting Compare View can take half a minute before the two mid-size images open in their respective SELECT and CANDIDATE windows. When the side panels are open and two images are in the Select/Candidate spaces, hitting the Tab button to close the side panels produces a very delayed response--25-30 seconds to close them, a few more seconds to enlarge the two images to full size. To reverse the process (i.e., to recall the two side panels), hitting Tab would make the two sides of the screen go black for up to a minute, with no words visible. Eventually the info fields in the panels would open up.
I also created a new user account and imported a folder of 160 images. After half an hour Compare View began mis-placing data. (I have a screen shot to show this.) CANDIDATE appears on the left side of SELECT, whereas it should be on the right. The accompanying camera exposure data appears almost entirely to the left of the mid-screen dividing line.
