MeetingPlace 7 Questions
Posted this under another forum topic but it looks like this one has a little more MP action.
Couple of questions about MeetingPlace 7.
-What is the best way to provide fault tolerance to the MP web servers? Can you front end with a CSS/ACE or is it best to just have multiple DNS 'A' records for all of your web servers.
-If you enable SSL on the web server itself it significantly decreases the capacity of the server. Is it possible to offload the SSL duties to a CSS/ACE? If so, how have you configured this?
-What is the purpose of the two IP addresses required for each web server? In 'Home | Administration | Web Server' it says that one is for 'Home Page' and one is for 'Web Conferencing' but you can go to either address/hostname and you get to the web interface. Any insight?
Thanks in advance.
Jason
Number of MeetingPlace Web servers:
- depends on the load, and whether external attendance (outside your organisation) is required. For enterprises you will use a minimum of 1 internal, 1 external server.
- Database is dependant whether you design for fault tolerance, and load related. On a MP Web server is okay, as long as you know the risks involved.

Misc. MeetingPlace Questions...
I have a few MeetingPlace questions....We have integrated MeetingPlace 8 with WebEx via the Type II integration. So far so good but there are a couple of annoying things i'd like to maybe get advice on..
Does anyone know if there will ever be the ability to use vanity numbers with the WebEx Integration? Having one meeting number seems to be a little bit of a pain for our users. They were always use to having seperate WebEx and Audio-Only conference numbers.
Can you record an audio only conference? If so how? The option to record seems to be disabled when we dial the option...
Is it possible to remove the "please record your name" or the "meeting maybe recorded" message? Our users do not like that at all....
I think thats it.....
Thanks. Were you able to find a way to disable the "meeting maybe recorded" message? I am going to deploy
MP8 on monday and i know my users are not going to like that either.
thx

Questions about MeetingPlace 8.5?
Please pardon for the questions. I am still new to MeetingPlace.
1. I don't know if I understood Cisco documents about MP but is a Webserver needed when you need to integrate with MS Outlook or Lotus Notes for email notification and calendaring function?
2. Does MP have the capability to call out to participants of a meeting? If yes what needs to be done in order to achieve this.
Thanks.Hi Ryan,
Let me answer your question in reverese order (assuming you it's new install of MP 8.5, with integration to WebEx for Web meetings):
2. Yes, MP allows both dial-in and dial-out. Check this link for more details:
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/meetingplace/8_5/english/administration/route_sip.html#wp1279402
1. MP 8.5 (is audio & video conferencing) system, if you want web conferencing you need Cisco WebEx and do integration with your MP 8.5, this is known as type 2 deployment. Once done you can install the WebEx Productivity Tools to schedule meetings via outlook or you can login to your WebEx site and schedule the meeting.
let me know if you got more questions.

MeetingPlace Express Integration questions
Hi,
On MeetingPlace express, we can configure different ways for call-control integration.
In CallManager integration without gatekeeper mode, what's useful of the field of E.164 address under meetingplace H323 configuration mnue? By default it is "000". In this case, we can dial the more than one numbers of those configured on "Usage Configuration" or "Dial Configuration" if we correctly configured the route-pattern on CallManager;
But if integrated to Gatekeeper, we can only define one address which is the E.164 address under "H.323 configuration", and MeetingPlace express is registered to Gatekeeper as an endpoint; In this case, looks like those numbers defined on "Dial Configuration" or "Usage Configuration" does not help us. In this case, if the requirement is integrating gatekeeper, and have more than one DIDs can be used for meetingPlace express, how can we do?
Thanks,
JJCallManager SRND mentioned that we can add commands manually on gatekeeper for other MeetingPlace express access numbers, which answered my questions.

Meetingplace Outlook Plugin Question
I have a meetingplace express server that is in sync with LDAP. I have a user that had a username that was different than his email address. For some reason when he attempts to schedule a meeting using the outlook plugin for meetingplace, he gets the error "The person you schedule on behalf of doesn't have a profile". I need to know what the plugin or meetingplace looks at when a meeting generation is attempted. The user definitely has a profile but I believe since his profile name and email address were different, that is causing some problems. Any ideas here?
The MR1 release fixed the issue. It was actually released with this fix in mind. It allows meetingplace to work with a user even if the username and alias don't match up, without MR1 if the alias is different from the username, in our case it was, MP says that the two aren't the same user. In MR1 it is smart enough to see that it is the same user.
CUMP_AppServerUpgrade_8_5_3_4.bin
They also just released the MR2 which focuses on a lot of the outlook plugin errors.

MeetingPlace 6 to 7, Profile Number Question
We are planning to upgrade from MeetingPlace 6 to 7.1.
We use our 6 digit employee number for the MP6 profile number, it is imported from our ldap directory. We want to continue using this in MP7. Can we migrate the old profile number over when we go to MP 7 with our users/account as non-local? As non-local accounts would the profile number be overwritten from the CallManager?
What about new users? Could we modify a non-local user's profile number to be their employee number?
Thanks for any responses. We do have a development MP7 up and running but all the users are local.
BethHi Justenuf,
Can you please share the Cp6 project with us so that we can investigate the issue at our end. Please upload it to a shared workspace and send me the link at [email protected]

Meetingplace Express 2.0 Questions
Hello,
I just installed MPE 2.0 and am having trouble getting it configure the way I want.
1) When I open a web meeting, all users by default are presenters. This means they get the option of sharing their desktop unless I manually make them an audience member. Is there a way to change the default on this so that everyone except the meeting organizer is an audience member?
2) What is the "Participant list only" option used for? When I select this option, nobody can share their desktop.
Thanks in advance,
GlennHey Glenn, how are you? Are you using the default system profiles to enroll users or did you set up custom configurations? Profiles in MPE typically contain settings like User ID, permission type, and meeting preferences. The permission type is what determines whether users are hosts or participants. If you want to shoot me a look at what you have set up, I can take a look to see if I can be of assistance.
Participant list only. This is actually intended to be used when you have more voice ports than web ports. So, participant list only requires no licenses and reserves full web capabilities for users that need to actually share and collaborate via the web on the conference.

Disk space problem on MeetingPlace Express
I get the email below daily. I'm thinking it's ok to cat /dev/null the cma.log file?

This is an automated message from the MeetingPlace Express system with
hostname [meeting.afgrp.com] to inform you that disk space is low.
Details on where the problem is and how to resolve it are indicated below.
Low space in partition /. Percent used = [90].
The following files might cause trouble. However, inspect each one to make sure.
Look specifically for large files with old timestamps. Also, note that some of
the files indicated might have been previously mentioned. In this case, use the
prior instructions to handle these files rather than the instructions below.
If you are uncertain, contact Cisco TAC for confirmation/advice.
For the files below, use the following procedure to empty these files rather than
delete them outright.
1. For each file to be emptied do:
cat /dev/null > <filename>
2. After all files that you wish to empty have been emptied, do:
su // Enter 'root' password.
mpx_sys restart
-rw-rw-r-- 1 mpxadmin mpx 283120801 Apr 11 02:00 /var/mp/ConfSchd/stdout
-rw-r----- 1 root root 127007041 Dec 22 05:30 /var/spool/compaq/cma.log
In general, to free up disk space where it is uncertain exactly what files are in question,
do the following:
1. In general, go to places like /root, /mpxadmin, /tmp and do "ls -la" to look
for large files. If a file is large, old, and seems like some kind of log or
error file, it could be a candidate for deletion.
2. Generally files of type log (*.log), stderr, stdout, or txt (*.txt) are the
best candidates to look for. A good command to look for these types of
files with size of 10,000,000 bytes or larger is:
find / -name "<file type>" -exec ls -la {} ; | awk '{if( >=10000000) {print} }'
For example, to look for all log files 10,000,000 bytes or larger on
the entire system:
find / -name "*.log" -exec ls -la {} ; | awk '{if($5 >= 10000000) {print} }'
3. If you have a specific problem partition that you are trying to reduce size
for, do the following:
1. Find out the directory name of the top of the partition from "df".
2. "cd" to that location.
3. Then do: du -x -b --max-depth=1
4. Look for the directories that are really large.
5. Then "cd" into the worst subdirectory (or subdirectories).
6. Get a list of all large files from current directory location and lower:
(This example assumes 10,000,000 bytes and a check for .log files.
Note the starting location of '.' (current location) rather
than '/' (entire disk) ).
find . -name "*.log" -exec ls -la {} ; | awk '{if($5 >= 10000000) {print} }'
Complete output of the 'df' command:
Filesystem 1K-blocks Used Available Use% Mounted on
/dev/sda1 6048320 5111204 629876 90% /

none 1026932 22624 1004308 3% /dev/shmHi Josh,
It seems that the root partition of the MeetingPlace Express server is almost full. I have attached a document for your reference which can be used to minimize the disk space issues.
Once the steps mentioned in the attached document are completed, run the command "df" to check the disk space.
If you do not see much improvement in the root partition, then in that case some other files might need to be removed from the server to increase the root partition space.
If any of the partitions reach upto 90% or above, then the server might behave unexpectedly.
Feel free to revert if you have face any issues or have any queries.

Here I place information on the configuration of my network:
CUCM v.7.0 --> 10.145.2.10
Voice Gatweay --> 10.145.2.30
In CUCM > Device > Gateway --> Gateway: 10.145.2.20 | Description: Cisco MeetingPlace Express | Type: H.323 Gateway | IP: 10.145.2.20
Please expect your valuable help!
Thanks a lot!
ErnestoGhi Ernesto,
As the problem you are facing is a dial out issue on MPE, go
through the checklist mentioned below in order to confirm the configuration
is intact.
Here is the checklist :
1. Ensure that H323 GW is defined on CCM/CUCM.
Device > Gateway > find.
Look for a device name that equals either MPE's hostname, FQDN, or IP
Address.
2. Ensure that h323 Gateways are configured on MPE.
MPE Administration Center > System Configuration > Call Configuration > H323
Configuration
Ensure that h323 is enabled.
Ensure that you have entered your CCM's IPs in h323 Gateway 1, 2
3. Ensure that CCM's interface with MPE is up.
Ensure that MPE's IP Address is listed under the "IP Address" column.
Ensure that this IP Address is that of the FIRST NIC on MPE, not the second.
4. Verify that MPE has the CSS required to call the destination.
FIRST, FIND MPE's CSS:
When MPE places a call, the CSS in question is Device > Gateway > MPE-GW >
Inbound
THEN the relevant config is under Device > "Call Routing Information -
Inbound Calls" > Calling Search Space
SECOND, FIND DESTINATION PATTERN's PARTITION:
If the destination is an IP Phone within the CCM/CUCM Cluster, then the
relevant config is under Device > Phone > click on Directory Number in CCM.
If the destination is a PSTN endpoint/phone, then the relevant config is
under Device > Route Pattern.
5. Ensure that your user profile is set to allow outdials.
MPE Administration Center > User Configuration > User Profile Management >
Your User Profile > Can call out of meetings should be set to "Yes".
6. When you place a call from from the CLI, the system applies permissions
from the "Guest" User profile since mpxadmin or root are not Users within
the MPX application. To allow this to work, you need to verify two
settings:
MPE Administration Center > User Configuration > User Profile Management >
Guest > Can call out of meetings should be set to "Yes".
Ensure that the Guest profile is not in a "locked" state.
MPE Administration Center > System Configuration > Usage Configuration >
Allow Guest outdials should be set to "Yes".
Hope this helps!
Thanks,

Email notification for MeetingPlace not being received
Client has MeetingPlace 7.1.1 installed. Outlook email notification for MeetingPlace stopped working.
Problem symptom: When users try to schedule a meeting from web server page, both scheduler and invitee do not receive email notifcaiton in their email account. But email notification for MeetingPlace works when users schedule meeting from MeetingPlace for Outlook Plug-in regardlessly.
I've run a test with client, meeting creation is successful. But as soon as user finishs creation meeting, email notification is "Queued for delivery" in Email Notification Report in MeetingPlace App Admin page. I checked all possible settings in MeetingPlace Administration page, nothing looks wrong - correct email address account and type in user profile; SMTP server is properly configured and passes tha test; SMTP server is up and runnin.
I'm stumped after deep research online, did not go anywhere. Can someone point out where could possible go wrong and how to fix this issue??
FeiEmail notification works differently depending on where the scheduling is done. When done from Outlook your Outlook client sends the request directly to Exchange. When scheduling from the web the invite is held in a mailbox on the Application Server and periodically the system tries to send the email to its mailbox on Exchange. Since the issues is with meetings scheduled via the web interface there is an issue with MP talking to Exchange. I assume the users scheduling from the web have Outlook selected in their profile. This is the first place to check. Next I would look at the Outlook settings in MP. Make sure the MP mailbox is still in Exchange and that the user name and password is correct for the Exchange mailbox. This is usually where the issue is. Also make sure that SSL has not become a requirement to talk with Exchange.
Let me know if you have any questions.

MeetingPlace conference call on CCM MoH
Has anyone seen this, or have any ideas? Have a MeetingPlace Enterprise 5.4.0 system and now and then, people on hold on Call Manager (multicast MoH) can here meetingplace conference calls when they are on hold with the CCM MoH playing. The people on the MeetingPlace Conference call do not hear the person on hold or the CCM music.
The Call Manager and Meetingplace are completely seperate servers. The Call Manager version is 4.1(3) SR4D if it helps.
The network is clean, no errors, and can't find where this problem is coming from. It does not happen all the time and doesn't happen on every meetingplace conference call.
I don't know much about Meetingplace, does it use Multicast for its audio conferences? I thought they were kept local to the audio server unit (?).For the sake of closing out this question... The answer was found deep in a Cisco wiki post.
Suppressing Music-On-Hold
You can configure Cisco Unified Communications Manager to play music for the held party when users put a call on hold. However, if a user places a meeting on hold, the music plays into the meeting until the user retrieves the held call. To prevent this, you can configure Cisco Unified Communications Manager not to play music on hold for calls routed through Cisco Unified MeetingPlace H.323/SIP IP Gateway.
Specifically, make sure you do not assign to the Cisco Unified MeetingPlace H.323/SIP IP Gateway a Media Resource Group List that includes any Media Resource Group that includes Music on Hold servers, as the MeetingPlace IP Gateway can join a multicast Music-On-Hold (MoH) group. Since MeetingPlace is a transmit/receive environment, being put on hold can mean meeting participants listen to MoH, as well meetings in progress to devices configured to participate in the multicast group, resulting unexpected and undesirable privacy breaches.
As an additional workaround/resolution, if the customer is using Cisco Unified Communications Manager (CUCM) Version 6.1 and later, verify the CUCM Service Parameter "Send Multicast MOH in H.245 OLC Message" is set to False. -

I appreciate your questions, and will try to answer them below.
When you are installing a fresh new MeetingPlace 8.5 that you plan to integrate with WebEx, the only available option is WebEx Managed user profiles. With this option, you can either create profiles manually on WebEx side, and then sync them to MeetingPlace, or you can use Federated SSO for import of profiles from LDAP server in your network to WebEx, and then sync the profiles from WebEx to MeetingPlace (you choose one of these two options when provisioning WebEx site).
These are the only two available options for a NEW install of MP8.5 for WebEx integration, and as you can see both options are WebEx Managed profiles, the only difference is if you are going to use Federated SSO, or create profiles on WebEx manually.
During the install, you can select to install MeetingPlace managed users option, but you would choose this option only if you plan to do a migration from an earlier MP release (7.x/8.0) with WebEx integration and Directory Integration.
For example, MeetingPlace managed profiles option is available if you had MeetingPlace 8.0 integrated with WebEx Type II (WebEx scheduling) with Directory Integration, where you had your MP8.0 integrated with CUCM via AXL for user profile management (CUCM integrated with LDAP), and your WebEx Site provisioned for Directory Integration, and then migrate from that system to MeetingPlace 8.5 that you installed selecting MeetingPlace managed user profiles.
The same goes for MeetingPlace Scheduling (Type I) integration with WebEx. Possible only with migration, and not with a fresh new installation.
Now, to focus on your questions.
1. As you can see, you don't have many options. If you have MS Active Directory that you would like to use for SSO in MP8.5 WebEx Scheduling, you will have to go with Federated SSO. So far, I haven't heard of any issues with that as it seems to be pretty straight forward to configure, and also WebEx Support team provides direct support for that setup as it is a direct integration between WebEx Site and the LDAP server (nothing to do with MeetingPlace side of the equation).
2. In general, if you have Federated SSO enabled, you would go to WebEx site home page, click on Host Log In button which will then ask you to enter your network/windows credentials and place you to WebEx scheduling interface.
If you have Directory Integration (like on MP8.0 WebEx Type II with CUCM/AXL integration), when you go to WebEx site home page and click Host Log In button, you are being redirected to the MeetingPlace log-in page where you would enter your Windows credentials (assuming your CUCM is integrated with LDAP), and then if log in is successful, you get redirected back to WebEx scheduling interface. With this type of deployment, you can log in to WebEx scheduling interface ONLY if you are connecting from your company network or have a VPN connection to your company network. This is a major limitation that most customers complained about, but the reason for this was that we didn't want to make MP Application server hostname/IP publicly available and hence cause a security issue.
I am sure I answered your questions, but opened some new questions. So, please, let me know if I need to clarify anything.
Thank you.

Hi experts,
We are planning to migrate our MeetingPlace 5.4 to 8.0. I have following components ..
1) Web server in DMZ
2) Web server Internal
3) Directory server (MPDS)
4) MP 8106
I am using web scheduling , data conferencing and audio meetings.
As we know migration is very time consuming , I wanted to understand what are all your thoughts about the migration process I am planning as per Cisco’s documentation.
Buy new hardware for MP 7.x which should be compatible with MP 8.0. Install 7.x and test it in lab environment and test the functionalities . After this take a downtime and upgrade your 5.4 MP to 6.0 MR5 (I think 2 steps one to 6.0 then next to MR5). Export all the required data from MP6.0MR5 and implement it on 7.0.2 new MeetingPlace system. Test all the components like web , directory integration users profiles, future meetings and group on 7.x.
On 7.x I will have one application server , one web server ,Media server 3545 and install WebEx node for MCS.
Upgrade the mp 7.x to 8.x (application, media and mp web server)
Since there is architectural change in MP 8.0, we will need Web ex node for MCS for data conferencing and scheduling. In this case since we have been using the MP scheduling and web conferencing, as per Cisco documentation we have option to keep our MP web as front end for web scheduling and conferencing in 8.x. But all the meetings will be actually scheduled on WebEx Node for MCS on backend.
Here are my few question:
1) In old architecture there are no charges for any internal or external web conferencing, but it looks in 8.x WebEx data conferencing and scheduling is chargeable (monthly basis) is it correct ?
2) Are MeetingPlace 7.x and 8.0 is compatible with exchange 2010 and outlook 2010 for email integration ?
3) Will inside webex node for MCS fulfill our external conferencing and scheduling requirements. I think externally users will see the webex data conferencing and webex scheduling page instead of MP web. Is it correct?
4) Should I plan different approach for the complete deployement?
Thanks
rawatIn old architecture
there are no charges for any internal or external web conferencing, but
it looks in 8.x WebEx data conferencing and scheduling is
chargeable (monthly basis) is it correct ?
Correct, in MeetingPlace 8.0 and beyond you need to have an active WebEx MeetingCenter (or Enterprise) contract. This contract involves a monthly fee for the web conferencing portion. The only exception is for those customers with high security requirements that the WebEx SAS 70 compliance is not sufficient for. If you fall into that category you need to speak with your Cisco AM.
Are MeetingPlace 7.x and 8.0 is compatible with exchange 2010 and
outlook 2010 for email integration ?
Current documentation only lists Exchange 2007 SP1: http://docwiki.cisco.com/wiki/Cisco_Unified_MeetingPlace_Release_8.0_--_System_Requirements_for_Cisco_Unified_MeetingPlace_Release_8.0#Microsoft_Exchange_Server
Will inside webex node for MCS fulfill our external conferencing and
scheduling requirements. I think externally users will see the webex
data conferencing and webex scheduling page instead of MP web. Is it
correct?
No. The WebEx Node for MCS is only used for Internal Ports web meeting ports which are restricted to corporate users on your internal corporate network. All external participants (those joining from outside the firewall) must join using the WebEx SaaS cloud. These users will consume External Ports. You cannot mix the legacy MeetingPlace scheduling with WebEx scheduling; it is one or the other system-wide.
Should I plan different approach for the complete deployement?
My recommondation is to decide whether you want a WebEx contract or not. If not, you need to stay on MeetingPlace 7. If you do, then I suggest using WebEx scheduling which results in a far simpler deployment model.
JasonJason,
We run MP 6 and from my experience working with it the reason it has 2 NIC's is one if for Admin and the other is for web conference. I know you mentioned that below but if you look at the traffic you will see that when you connect to the webpage before clicking connect you pc will have a connection to the 1st NIC IP on port 80 and once you connect to the conference room you will see a second connection to the other NIC IP on port 1627 which is how it establishes a connection to the web conference room.
We as well have not played with SSL nor any sort of ACE/CSS for fault tolerance and i can agree that the system should be able to failover automatically but i hear that feature is not due till the 8.x days. -
MeetingPlace Express and LDAP Directory
Hello Folks,
I have got 2 questions:
1)Is there a built-in synch AD between CallManager and MeetingPlace Express? I would like to be able to add new people added in the CallManager to MPE directory automatically? Would it be possible?
2)can we add extra attendees on the fly if we go over
Thanks,Bahman,
You can set up an import file to bulk add profiles. Check the Importing Data into Meetingplace Express section.
