Merge Data Multiple records problem (repeats data)

I'm tring to creat some cataloge pages with 4 images, codes, dicritons etc per page.
i have a excel sheet which I've saved to a CSV file for a data source. i have a single page with the first record at the top and enogh room to repeat the record 4 times on the page. When I do the data merge I'v selected multiple records per page and put in all the settings and spacings I want.
Everything looks fine when i click on the multiple reports prevew but when i do the actual merge most of the merges copy the same data with only a few records using different data. It's generating the correct number of records and pages with 4 records per page but repeatiing the same record, except for 2 records which were different before going back to the repeated record. Also the record it repeats is not the first record on the list, it's about the 6 of 16.
I'm using CS5 version of Indesign.
Any one have any sugestions to get it working corrctly or is this a fault wiyh CS5?

  • Multiple records in Indesign Data merge

When I select the option for multiple records in InDesign Date Merge, I still only get one record on a page in preview. When I ask it to create a merged document, each item from the excell file is put on a separate page.  Why is this happening, I want 4 items on a page.

I figured out the problem.  The margins would have to be smaller for the page to accomodate multiple  records. Thanks for offering to help.

  • CS5 - Data Merge - Create Merged Document - Multiple Record - Ignore title/other objects on page?

When I create a merged document with multiple records, the items usually come out right, but the problem is the the title or header of the page is usually also replicated into every line.
Is there anyway to seperate certain objects/images/text/etc so that when I create the merged document (multiple records), it would not duplicate those items?
This tutorial manages to do that:
    http://tv.adobe.com/watch/instant-indesign/automating-a-catalog-with-data-merge/
But does not seem to explain how he keeps the title, seperation dots, etc, from duplicating with data merge.
    Thanks for any input

I thought I had tried that, but I guess I didn't do it correctly because I just got it to work.
    Now I feel silly.

  • Tip for Data Merge with Multiple Records (labels, etc.)

I have seen many InDesign Data Merge questions about how to create sheets of mailing labels, especially the problem of getting only one label per page, when you need 30 or more.
Adobe's instructions are poor and incomplete in that InDesign doesn't step out the records from a data source - it steps out the FRAMES that contain the data field placeholders.
That is why you only need to place a text or image frame once on a single page - during the datamerge, InDesign will create the additional FRAMES for each record, and it will create the pages required to hold them.
You do have to set the desired spacing on the
If you create the frame on a Master page, ID allows you to update the data source (when it changes) in the Data Merge tool panel.
These are very nice and robust features, but the documentation for them is confusing to many people.
You will find more great in-depth help  for Data Merge, with screen captures and attachments, here in the forum.

For a multiple record merge you need one set of placeholders, then set the margins and spacing in the merge options so the positioning is correct.
Warning: Using Preview in a multiple record merge will corrupt the file. If you press the preview button, Undo after looking at the preview, then merge without using preview.

  • Selecting single record from multiple record based on date

    Hi experts,
I have a table which contains the multiple records for single ID No. Now i have to select single record which contains the latest date.
    here is the structure
    Name   Null Type
    ID_P        NUMBER
    NAME_P      VARCHAR2(12)
    DATE_P      TIMESTAMP(6)
    Records
    1 loosi     22-AUG-13 01.27.48.000000000 PM
    1 nammi  26-AUG-13 01.28.10.000000000 PM

    2 thej      26-AUG-13 01.28.42.000000000 PM
now i have to select below 2 rows how can write select qurie for this?

    Hi,
You can use the analytic ROW_NUMBER function.
I don't have a copy of your table, so I'll use scott.emp to illustrate.  In scott.emp, there may be multiple rows for a single job.  To display just 1 row per job, the row with the most recent hiredate:
    WITH got_r_num AS
SELECT  empno, job, deptno, hiredate -- Or whatever columns you want
         ,       ROW_NUMBER () OVER ( PARTITION BY  job
                                      ORDER BY      hiredate DESC
                                    )  AS r_num
        FROM    scott.emp
--  WHERE ...   -- If you need any filtering put it here
SELECT   *      -- Or list all columns except r_num
    FROM     got_r_num
    WHERE    r_num   = 1
What results do you want in case of ties?  Depending on your requirements, you may want to add tie-breaking expressions to the analytic ORDER BY clause, and/or use RANK instead of ROW_NUMBER.
I hope this answers your question.
If not, post a little sample data (CREATE TABLE and INSERT statements, relevant columns only) for all the tables involved, and the results you want from that data.
Point out where the query above is producing the wrong results, and explain, using specific examples, how you get the right results from the given data in those places.
If you modify the query at all, post your modified version.
Always say what version of Oracle you're using (e.g. 11.2.0.2.0).

  • How do I add one event to multiple, but not repeating, dates

I routinely need to add single events to 10 to 20 dates at once. These dates rarely line up in a repeating sequence. For instance I may need to schedule "appointment with John at 1pm" on M,Tu this week; W,Thu,Fri next week; M,Thu the following week. And "appointment with Jane at 10am" on M this week; Tu next week; Thu the following week.
I know I can copy and paste identical text in one at a time on each date but this is tedious.
Is there an app or trick I can use to do this efficiently? Previously I used an old version of Calendar Creator in which I could create an event and then push a toggle switch on all the days across a month in which the event would reoccur.
Thanks! I'm new to Mac and iCal.

    Hello,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
    1. Make the first event in iCal when and how you want it.
    2. If you are not in month view, switch to it.
    3. Highlight the event in the calendar view and press Cmd-C (copy).
    4. Click on the blank area on a day you want to copy to.
    5. Press Cmd-V (paste).
    6. Repeat steps 4-5 for all needed dates.
    Best wishes

  • Data merge question- multiple records

I am trying to create name tags.
I have a master page set up with 4 name tags and I'm trying to merge my csv file into it.
It is giving me one record per page instead of 4...
    Help!
The preview looks correct but upon merge -- it ends up one per page.

    Sorry, let me explain:
We sell various items that get imprinted with the customer's info. We imprint on to a preprinted, 4-color "shell" that has multiple pieces. (9 up, 8 up, etc.). We get the shells and we imprint the info. When we print these we group together several shops based on how many they've ordered. Could be from 200 to 5,000+ of one type of product. It's more efficient for the print shop to print more than one shop per sheet than to have to make an entire signature/plate for one shop.
As for the shells coming to us, we have to measure the shells and print a test to make sure it matches up correctly on the press. Then we have to tweak it to make it right. Tweaking means we have to edit the size and placement of each individual box that is the placeholder for the text being imprinted.
The problem I'm finding right now is not only getting the data source right for the merge but I'm now realizing that when I go to create my original merge document, I'm having to manually place the fields on the page for each record. I know that's how it's done normally but when you've got 50 to 200 or more records that's not efficient at all. The reason I'm having to do it that way is I've arranged my data in two rows, including the header and the shop info so that I can have it flow into the document one record per card/calendar.
Wow, that's a lot of typing. OK, am I getting anywhere?

  • Inserting multiple records in a data block

Hi, how do i insert multiple rows from a record group into a data block. Thanks

You do it manually. Copy the values and move to the next record in the record group and in the block.
You might like the concept of basing a block on a stored procedure better. Check out the stored procedure based block sample that comes with the Oracle Forms demos.

  • Single and  Multiple Records On Same Data Block?

    Hi all,
Im using forms 6i with db 9i.
Im having a nested table which contains a column of datatype TYPE(table of varchar2(100)).
Now i want to create a data block based on the nested table.
So, I want only one column should be multirecord in the block.
When i set the block level NO OF RECORDS PROPERTY to multiple, then all the items in the block getting changed as
    multi records.
Is that possible to have multirecord for a particular field OR how to fix this issue?

    Hi Baiq,
Thanks for your responses. I moved the multirecord item into a separate block(control block) and it worked.
But still im having a doubt regarding this.
How can we map a db column which has datatype of TYPE(Collection) to a particular item in forms?
Because when i try to create a new datablock based on that table im not able to move that collection column from
the available columns to database items in the datablock wizard. It seems like disabled and tree node structure and
im not able to select the same.
Next thing, Even though we assigned those column manually, How the commit_form save that multirecord column
    with multiple values?
So kindly let me know how to solve this case if possible.

  • Data Merge: Multiple records in a Multiple Page Document

I looked in the InDesign help and under Limitations for merging multiple records it reads:
You cannot merge multiple records if the data fields appear on a document page in a document with multiple pages, or if data fields appear on multiple master pages.
I'm using InDesign CS 5.5. I produce a 4-page newsletter printed on both sides as a booklet, folded and stapled and each folded page size is 8.5 x 11 (a four page booklet on 11×17 paper) I want to print our 250-name mailing list on the outer cover but have discovered that it only prints the whole thing then staples it or I need to manually print each issue per name.
Is there a way around this? If we have to use a third party software, would you let me know what to look for? Any suggestions are appreciated.
    Thanks for your help.
    Amy

How many names are you trying to put on each newsletter? I suspect only one, and that you've misiniterpreted the Help file. That warning applies to putting multiple records from the data file on the SAME page, like a sheet of labels.
Just so you know, using Data Merge to do a mailing where you are addressing multiple copies of a static document is potentially VERY inefficent. Data Merge needs to make a page for every page that will be printed, so if you have a 4-page newsletter with 1,000 subscribers you will wind up with a 4,000 page document just to get the name and address on one page, and your printer will be re-processing all those duplicate pages for each newsletter. If you have a commercial grade copier/printer there may be a variable data printing module availble for it that will merge your list at print time so you need only send a 4-page file and print 1000 copies (or you can send the job out to a printer who can handle this kind of work), or if you want to print in-house anddon't have VDP capabilities, I recommend doing two files.
The first file should be the side of the sheet that doesn't change. Print that first as a single page doing x plus a few extra copies (in case of jams in the printer when doing the second half) where x is the number of newsletters you need.  The second file is the other side of the sheet with the addresses, which you do as the Data Merge, and will end up as x pages. After printing the first side, flip the stack and reload so you are printing on the blank side, then send the merge document, asking for one copy.

  • Forms pulling Multiple Records from an XML Schema and XML data files - Adobe LiveCycle Designer

I built a form in Adobe LiveCycle with an xml schema and data file.  The problem is with how the form renders the xml data file.
I have a statement element that consists of about 6 fields (statementID, statementName, statementAddress, statementCountry, statementZip, statementDate, etc) of data in the schema that allows for multiple iterations - so one xml data file can contain multiple statements. These fields allow for null values.
But here's the problem:  When any of the statements - say statement 2 of 6 - has a null value in one of the fields, if the xml data file doesn't have a placeholder
(example of placeholder:  <statementName type="String"/>   )in the xml for that field, my form pulls the field value from the NEXT statement.
This corrupts all the rest of the statement records, as this field is shifted up for all the rest.
I know that in the past I haven't needed a placeholder when a field was null. But I'm wondering if when the data allows for multiple records the xml data file needs to generate the placeholder.  And where is the problem? In the Schema? The xml data file? My form?  And the 64-thousand-dollar question:  How to fix it?

If your <statement> element is the one that repeats, it should be bound to a subform with the binding string of something like $.statement[*]. Then in that subform should be your fields and they should have bindings of $.statementID, $.statementName, $.statementAddress, etc.

  • How can I compare values in a multiple records block

I have a form with multiples records whit a date in each record. I need test if the date typed in record 2 is greather than the date on record 1, if the date typed in record 3 is greather than the date on record 1 and so on. How cai I do it???is grather than the date on record 1

    Pedro,
Venelin's code works perfectly, but if you try to use it in a When-Validate-Item or When-Validate-Record trigger, it won't work since you can't invoke navigation routines (FIRST_RECORD, NEXT_RECORD) from these two triggers (among others).
First, we have to understand that Forms wasn't built to perform multi-row validations. It's a fact.
Second, the way I prefer to do this is: let the user enter the data as he wants.
When he commits, in a POST-FORMS-COMMIT trigger, you can check the values using SELECT statements, because they are already written to the data tables. If you don't like them, just issue a RAISE FORM_TRIGGER_FAILURE and the transaction gets rollbacked (and the inserts will be undone).
    Hope this helps,
    Pedro das Neves

  • Multiple records for infotype with TC1

    Hi all,
We have maintained use case A4 for mailing address in ESS.
Strangely, one of our end users, has two overlapping mailing address records! The user had a mailing address record which he edited in ESS. This edited record appears in the backend as a new record. So now the user sees two records in the backend - both with a different start date, but the same end date of 12/31/9999, instead of seeing the first record as delimited. And now when he tries to edit his mailing address in ESS, he gets an RFC error.
Ideally for TC1, a user cannot have two overlapping records and the first record gets delimited to accomodate the updated record as the current record.
Any idea, why this could be happening? We are unable to replicate this issue at our end as this scenario seems impossible for an infotype with TC1.
    TIA!
    Regards,
    Diana

ideally it should have delimited the records, but can check how the enduser created the record?
    TC1 can use A1,A4,B1,B4
    TC2 can use A1,A2,A3,A4,A5,B1,B2,B4,B5
    TC3 can use A6,B3
    Note this
A: A record can be created specifying the valid start and/or end date Multiple records can exist.. By default the ESS scenario's will allow you specify the start date as today or future date.  If you wish to enable ESS scenario's to accept a start date in the past, Business Add-in "HRXSS_PER_BEGDA" can be implemented.
For more information, please refer to IMG activity "Change Default Start Date".
B: A record can be created without specifying the valid start and/or end date.  Multiple records are not possible.
A4: Variant of A1, Difference to A1 being, "New <infotype/subtype>" button will always be available on the overview screen of the concerned scenario. E.g., suitable in Permanent address.
A6: Multiple infotype records of the same type (e.g. other bank) may exist for an employee at the same time. "New <infotype/subtype>" button will always be available on the overview screen of the concerned scenario.  E.g., suitable in Other bank.

  • How to return multiple record with Oracle Native Web Service?

    Dear all,
I would like to know that the oracle native web service can be able to return multiple records to client or not?
I successfully developed the oracle native web service for returning single record but the next challenge is to develop web service in order to return multiple record (like Employees data base on each department)
    Thank and Regards,
    Zenoni

I successfully developed the oracle native web service for returning single record but the next challenge is to develop web service in order to return multiple record (like Employees data base on each department)You could return a list (multiple values/records) in XML format (using XMLType or CLOB), or CSV, or JSON, or whatever.
function get_employees (p_department_id in number) return clob
    as
    begin
      return 'your_xml_string_here';
end get_employees;It would be up to the client (the caller of the web service) to extract the values from whatever format you decide upon, of course.

  • Indesign Cs4 Multiple record data merge

I am trying to create a response card.
The sizing is such that they lie three on a letter sized page, and fit into Number 9 envelopes.  I've
data merged onto the one page (so three target/data boxes in each of the response cards) but when i select expo
rt and multiple records it doesnt work right.  It generates three on a page of all the same
record, and then a page of three for each record.  i need each record only once and i'd like to print them three to a page and then cut them.
advice?  i am not very advanced with indesign, so specific steps would be much appreciated.
is there a way to print if i make just one card?  it seems you can only do 2 or 4 to a page, not three

You set your fields three times on the page right?, delete instances 2 & 3.
Repeat - Set the first instance of all your design, eliminate everything else.
From the Create Merged Document panel, select "Multiple Fields" in Records per Document and adjust spacing on the Multiple Record Layout tab. (Hint, turn on preview)
