Merge split image segments

Dear Friends,
in an external PDF all images are splitted to smaller segments.
I heard this is quite common in PDF generation due Postscript.
I am placing this external PDF on an Indesign document page which is also exported again as a final PDF/SWF/JPEG.
But in the final PDF/SWF/JPEG there are white lines visible in the images, when they appear, allways between two image segments.
I heard this is due to rounding errors of position x-/y-coordinates of these image segments rendering them not perfectly onto their intended position.
I think about two general solutions:
Merge all image segments to a complete image.
Being able to position these segments with lock / automatically to make them perfectly edge to each other (but what would be with these rounding errors?).
This is a quite common problem to designers who want to further use the ressources or pages of an external PDF.
Often the senders of those external PDFs have not even got the original data (careless/lost/etc.).
It would be great if there is a reliable, solid solution to this problem.
Thank you for answers in advance!
With best regards
Inno

A naive (but possibly sufficient) implementation could just be to keep a table mapping (x,y) pairs to countries. To keep the table smaller, you could map 10x10 blocks of pixels to countries.
Ultimately this is about storing and then managing data.
One hack (in my opinion) is to check the color of the clicked pixel in the image of the map. But that is nasty for a variety of reasons (such as, it keeps you from being able to easily change the map image, and things like text in the map (like the names of countries) kind of screws that up. But it's an option.
You can also keep lists of pixels in sequence describing a polygon, and then use certain algorithms (which I don't recall right now) to determine whether a given point is inside or outside a given polygon.
Also you can do things like "binary space partitions", I think.
These last two things are computer graphics techniques, and are non-trivial to implement. I dimly recall them from college but recall no details. You can get a computer graphics textbook (which tend to be expensive) to get more info, or these days there's probably a wiki about it somewhere.
But I'd suggest keeping it modular. Add a layer of abstraction, writing an API around this functionality. Then write an implementation with a simple table of locations or blocks of locations, and if this proves to be insufficient later, swap it out with something more sophisticated.

  • Merge to Panorama creates a split image of the whole merged image

When I attempt to create a Panorama using "Merge to Panorama"/Auto with 11 CR2 RAW photos from my Canon 5d Mark ii the result is that I get a split image: 5 photos merged on the top of the canvas, and 6 merged on the bottom. I am using the most recent versions of Photoshop CC 2014 and a Mac Pro with OS 10.9.5. The same thing happens with "Perspective" rather than "Auto". Is there a size limit to how big the merged photo can be?

Disk Utility>Restore will copy the OSX, the Recovery Partition and ALL user data.  It will be an identical copy of the internal HDD.
Third party software such as Carbon Copy Cloner can also perform that same function, but also allow for incremental changes.
    Ciao.

  • How to split image into smaller (same size) pieces?

    Hi all,
My question is how to split image into smaller (same size) pieces, using Photoshop elements 13? Could anyone help me with this one?
    Thanks!

Use the Expert tab in Editor (I think that is what it is called in PSEv.13)
You may find the grid helpful. Go to View>Grid. It will not print, but will help to orient you. You can set up the gridlines to suit via Edit>Preferences>Guides and Grid. If you want to partition the picture in to 4 uniform pieces, it would be Gridline every 50%, Subdivision 1. Also, go to View>Snap to>Grid.
Set up the Rectangular marquee tool: If the picture is 6" wide & 4" high, enter width=3in & height=2in.on the tool's option bar. This will be a fixed size.
Click and select one quadrant, press CTRL+J to place this quadrant on a separate layer
Repeat for the other 3 quadrants
You should end up with 5 layers : Background, and layers 1, 2, 3, 4.

  • How to merge layered images?

Can anyone tell me if it is possible to merge layered images in Illustrator CS3?
I'm used to doing it with Photoshop. I thought the merge in Pathfinder would work but apparently not
    Thanks for any advice
    George

Choose both layers (click on one and hold down the CTL key to click on the second), then go to the layers drop down menu, and choose 'Merge Selected'.
    OR
Choose both layers as above, go to layers drop down menu, and choose 'Collect in New Layer'.
Not sure this is what you're wanting to do .... if not, there may be another way.

  • Speed up Qmaster's "Merging distributed QuickTime segments" process?

I'm finding that Qmaster's "Merging distributed QuickTime segments" process takes as long or LONGER than the time it takes to generate the encode itself.
I found this related discussion but no resolution: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1107862&tstart=56
There must be some un-optimized or rate-limiting bit of code in qmaster... i can't explain why the "Status: Processing: Merging distributed QuickTime segments" takes so long. We have a Compressor v3 setup with 24-36 virtual cores depending on config. The thing blazes through the encode process, doing a SD movie in about 4-6 minutes. It's beautiful how fast it runs, but when it gets back to merging segments, the disk activity does not exceed 15-20MB/sec read/write.
I tested my disks on concurrent read/write (this is a simple RAID0 array) and was seeing 80-90MB/sec concurrent read and write on the same volume. There's no knob, switch, or settings file parameter from what I can tell. It's incredibly frustrating for the disk operation to take LONGER than the encode.
Has anyone been able to overcome this problem? I am contemplating SSDs for the qmaster temp, but I don't think that would speed anything up. Does anyone know if this also exists in Qmaster 3.5?

Hi all, thanks for the replies thus far.
Jon Chappell > Compressor Repair is my best friend! Appreciate the links to the other forum with the benchmark results. I'm going to re-create those tests and see how my results compare.
All nodes are connected via 2Gb ethernet (bonded), so network speeds/transfers between cluster storage, source, and encoders are excellent. During encoding, each node is pulling data in over the network from the centralized storage server at well over 100MB/sec and placing the resulting segment on the qmaster temp area on the controller node.
The bottleneck is what happens when the controller (an 8 core 2.66Ghz Xserve with 2TB raid0'd drives) stitches the segments back together again. It's painfully slow, around 20MB/sec when I know the disks are capable of about 3-4x that. During this process, no data is being pulled over the network from the encoder nodes, as they've dumped their segments in he cluster storage node's temp area. It's all local disk i/o during the stitch operation.
Perhaps there's some single-threadedness in that process that prevents qmaster from harnessing all the resources available. All machines in the cluster are identical, so I'm convinced it's something in qmaster's design that may not be user serviceable.

  • What type of file should 'Split Archive Segment' files join together to make?

I am trying to open a file that has been split into 'Split Archive Segments'. After Stuffit Expander, (which did recognize the files), repeatedly crashed after attempting to open the first segment, I downloaded an application called AJoiner, on recommendation of another thread on the apple support community, which did manage to 'join' the segments together into one file. The only problem is that my macintosh has no idea what the format of the file is, (Get Info lists the file's 'kind' as 'document', and the icon is a blank sheet of paper), and the file has no windows-style filename extension appended, meaning that the windows I have installed in VirtualBox on my mac has no idea what it is either, despite the file supposedly being or containing a windows application. What should the filename extension for this type of file be, or what application should be able to open it?

  • Merging multiple images into one

    Hi,
I am using Photoshop CS5 Extended on OSX.
I am still green when it comes to using Photoshop so all help to this question is much appreciated.
I am trying to merge several images together into the one. The images all have the same background but with a single object moving through the images in procession (the images are of a skiing piste with a snowboarder moving through). I have searched for a solution online but the best I found with so far is making each image a layer and then using a mask on each layer and making only the snowboarder visible from each picture. This works ok but it is quite difficult to get each layer to blend in nicely with the background. Also, I am dealing with 20+ layers, so it is a very labour-intensive solution. I am asking to see if there is another solution whereby I can merge all the images together? Apologies if this has been covered elsewhere but I seem unable to find another solution.
Again, thanks in advance for any help :-)

while manual masking is certainly the best option (assuming that all images are taken with a tripod, are somehow aligned, and all have the same exposure) (and 20 layers isn't that labor intensive), you could try to select all 20 layers, make them a smart object, and then go to layers: smart objects: stack mode and see if any of the mode give you something automatically what you are looking for.
another thing you could try (not sure if it'll work) is select the layers and go to auto blend: focus stack and see if that works.
alternatively, you could try cutting the subject out (lasso select, invert selection, delete) in each layer, and then go to auto blend, panorama.

  • Merge Digital Images with HDR

A recent issue of PCMagazine, 6/27/2006, had an article entitled "Cool Photo Projects" which explained merging digital images with HDR. It mentioned that Photoshop CS2 will do that. Can it be done with Photoshop Elements 3? If not, is there a workaround that someone can suggest?
It does indeed look like a "cool project".
    Thanks. Eva

I didn't know what HDR was, but read about it here: http://www.luminous-landscape.com/tutorials/hdr.shtml
Seems to me that there's very little you could do in PSE to emulate this, as it's built-in functionality in CS2.
Having said that, taking a series of identical images, at different exposures, and simply using the best parts is quite possible.

  • Trying to merge 5 images

Whenever I try to merge 5 images of a chorale, the first four are merged together fine, but the 5th image gets put 'under' the top four...I never had this problem with CS3, so I don't know where to begin to resolve...? Using CS5 12.0.3 on Windows 7, 6G's of Ram..
Thanks so much for your time!!

It's "under" because Photoshop can't find any alignment of that image with the other 4 -- so Photoshop treats it as a separate panorama.
And that's probably because the people moved too much between the shots (you do seem to have enough overlap).
You could manually position it, then run the auto-blending command.

  • Merging/splitting cells is inappropriate

Sigh. Pages is cloning the awful way that Word does the table cell merge/split ... it really should follow the FrameMaker model ... try merging three cells, then split them again ... it's just about impossible to get the table back to its previous form. FM, on the other hand, treats a "merge" as a "disable boundaries" command, which means the cell boundaries are still there, just not active so all the contents get mushed together. When the "split" is applied, all the original boundaries return so you have a nice clean and lined-up table again.

What you need to do is unmerge the cells, not split them. Then you can move it and remerge with the other cells.
With the cells selected, just click on Merge Cells again and they should now be individual cells. Then move and reselect the cells you want to merge.

  • How to merge two images together

    hi,
I sell mobile phone cases and want to produce my own images. I have taken images of the case and have taken the background off. I have found an image on the internet of the phone and want the phone to be merged into the case.
could someone please help me to do this.
    thanks

In Editor, go to the expert tab.
Open picture B, the one you wish to select something from to add to another picture.
Use one of the selection tools, e.g. selection brush, lasso tool, to select the object. You will see an outline ("marching ants") once the selection is complete
Go to Edit menu>copy to copy the selection to the clipboard
Open picture A, then go to Edit>paste
Use the move tool to position object from picture B.
In the layers palette you should see picture A as the background layer, and object B on a separate layer.

  • Avoiding split images when printing html

I am writing html pages in dreamweaver and when I print from safari, the images are split between pages. Is there a way around this either in my html coding or in the 'save to pdf' in the printing?

Could be bad for your situation, but the only way I have successfully gotten around some of the issues you're describing is by outputtings static html files and opening in the user's local browser.
In your case that could be a large amount of code and you also have issues with whatever local browser they're using.  (God forbid they have IE then you'll be outputting your html / canvas and it still won't print.)
Unfortunately I don't really have an answer for you and I don't think Adobe does yet.  (You can see my basic workaround for printing to the user's local browser here: http://vfoo.wordpress.com/2009/03/24/adobe-air-print-css-and-html-printing-hack/ Note:  I don't think my workaround will be the best for your because relying on the user's browser for canvas printing is a bit of Russian Roulette)

  • On a long two hour concert, 4 tracks aiff, is it possible to export to disk split track segments?

Using Garageband 11 on a i3 iMac (2011), I downloaded a long contiguous symphony concert from a digital recorder as aif files.
