Messaging server vs Directory Server

Hi everybody,
My system have 2 server, 1 is Iplanet messaging server 5.2 P2 and the other is Directory Server 5.2. Recent days, i could not check email and when checked for error i got this :
On directory server, run command netstat -an

Over 4000 sessions still in state ESTABLISHED (about 100 people use this mail server but not usually). So, i check the logs file (LDAP log file), i saw :
[01/Sep/2008:07:46:08 +0700] - DEBUG - conn=-1 op=-1 msgId=-1 - Listening for new connections again
[01/Sep/2008:07:46:08 +0700] - ERROR<12293> - Connection - conn=-1 op=-1 msgId=-1 - fd limit exceeded Too many open file descriptor

Did i reach to limitation of max-connection which this server allows ? Any ideas ?
Thanks

Did i reach to limitation of max-connection which this server allows ? Any ideas ?You hit the maximum file-descriptor limit as the error points out. Remember that each TCP network connection consumes a file-descriptor.
At this point you have a few options:
1) Try to determine why there are so many active connections from the system 210.245.31.25 to the LDAP server and reduce them (e.g. restart the application holding open the connections, fix the application).
2) Increase the maximum number of file-descriptors for the system to allow for additional connections -- although this may just delay the problem from re-occurring if you don't address (1).
3) Restart the Directory Server to close the established connections. This is a short-term fix only.

Shane.

    I wanted to change that to /messaging/mail1/bin directory
    I stopped the messaging server
    I copied all the content of messaging64/ to messaging/mail1/bin
    moved messaging64 folder. I am able to do start stop for messaging. however imsrestart is giving error ....

    i checked file libimta.so is there under messaging/mail1/bin/lib
    I also added above path in to LD_LIBRARY_PATH and also to the path.
    still getting the same error.

    I wanted to change that to /messaging/mail1/bin directoryJust for future reference you can specify the install-root by using the --installroot <path> commpkg option as per:
    http://wikis.sun.com/display/CommSuite/commpkg+install+Usage
    starting dispatched serverf ld.so.1: dispatched : fatal: libimta.so: open failed: no such file or directory.
    what other action need to be taken here?You need to make sure that the crle values are correctly set to match the new path (run the crle command and you will see the paths I am referring to).

  • Does Sun Messaging Server support Microsoft Active Directory

    Hello,
    I just got this qustion. Does Sun Messaging Server work with Microsoft Active Directory?
    Thanks.

  • Messaging Server authenticate against directory server

    Just wonder how to make messaging server authenticate against directory server? Basically I created users on the directroy server, and would like to let these users to access messaging server?
    Thanks for advice!

    I'm sorry, your question doesn't really make any sense.
    Messaging Server always authenticates to users in a Directory.
    How did you "create users"? That may be the problem. If you don't create the users with the provisioning tools provided with Messaging, then the users don't have the correct object classes and attributes to function as Messaging users.

  • Directory Server Replica and Messaging Server 6

    I install Directory Server 5.2 as Master Replica in one machine (V120) and on the other machine (V240) I install the following:
    1. SunONE Directory Server 5.2 (Consumer
    Replica) or slave replica.
    2. SunONE Identity Server
    3. SunONE Messaging Server 6
    I have successfully install and configured the 3 Servers, when they are running on just one machine (one box). But when I try to run them in two separate machines as described above, the messaging server acts strangely and it's configuration fails, when i try to configure it on the directory server replica.
    In simpler words, I want to know if someone has installed Messaging Server in a Directory Server Replication scenario, where there are two machines involve. Because all works well when we install everything on one machine (one box) but I am having hard time configuring the messaging server in this split setup scenario.
    So, if someone has idea about how to run the Messaging Server 6 ( ./configure ) file successfully on a Directory Server 5.2 Replica, please suggest me in detail.
    Thanking you,
    Farhan Ahmed.
    Vision Valley, Dubai.

    Messaging Server uses LDAP in two ways. The obvious one is that user/group/domain information is stored there.
    The non-obvious way is that some configuration information is stored in LDAP, in the "o=NetscapeRoot" tree. This tree is NOT ususally replicated, so if you perform the installation against one LDAP server, and then attempt to move the configuration to point to another one, and don't make a separate replication agreement for the configuration, your server won't work correctly.
    To configure Messaging against a replica, you also need to understand how the replication and "referral" works. Without studying your scenario, I cannot tell what has failed, but indeed, there are users that have configured Messaging 6.0 against a replica LDAP system.
    You may want to open a tech support ticket, and get personal help for your issue.

  • Messaging server "testing" config directory instance

    So I'm noticing a lot of binds and searches from Messaging to it's config DS instance and was just curious as to if there's a pattern? My production box seems to test anywhere from every minute to as long as 4 minutes apart, however a test box (at the same patch level as prod) it only tests every 10 minutes (or right along with msprobe). The prod box has the same configutil for msprobe so I can't figure out why the prod messaging is continuously doing this:

    Sure there's a LOT more traffic to production than test, but I wasn't aware that it was traffic dependent. This is also a backend store - the two front ends we have which are config'd for MMP/MEM do not look for the config ds other than at startu/shutdown.
    Version:
    Sun Java(tm) System Messaging Server 6.2-7.05 (built Sep 5 2006)
    libimta.so 6.2-7.05 (built 12:18:44, Sep 5 2006)
    Is this typical? Is this configurable to stop it from checking so frequently/sporadically? Is this something I need to worry about?

    Hi,
    will get stopped and restarted. When they get
    restarted, they will query the config ldap. Has
    nothing to do with msprobe, but does have to do with
    the load on the system. the tcp server/clients live
    for a number of hours, or number of connections. . .
    This all changes with 6.3.In case you were wondering, version 6.3 of messaging server does away with the configuration directory, and stores the same settings locally. That is why Jay says it changes with 6.3.

  • Netsconsole 4.2- no admin server, directory server, messaging server

    I have installed Iplanet messaging server 5.1 in sun solaris 8. After starting netscape console 4.2 I can't see admin server, directory server, messaging server tabs under the tree at the lefthand side. only domainname there. But all servers are working fine as far as i inspected. Have anybody come across this and help me to solve the problem and use this console effectively.
    -suranji

    4.2 is never meant to work with msg 5.2? Well what about Netscape Console 4.5? Is it meant to work? What console is actually meant to work with Msg 5.2?
    The answers that SUN gives are always unclear. Instead of blabbering that this wont work, that wont work, why dont you guys say what actually WORKS?
    You know what? Nothing works that is from SUN. We have to break our heads and be sorry that we chose the SUN side.
    Give a clear documentation. Put up a compatibility list with each product. Why dont you guys concentrate on documentation?
    If I invent something, i have to tell people how to use it. Otherwise, slowly people will start to get away from it. Take this message. Work on guys. Do you know how frustrating it is that somwething logcal turns out NOT WORKING. and all we get for answer is THIS IS NOT SUPPORTEd and nothing else?
    Please....for all those guys running Msg server, switch to exchange..live happily... i am planning to recommend this to my customer....live peacefully..live with MS

  • How do I set the mailhost attribute in Messaging Server 3.5?

    <B>Intent of the hostname aliases feature: </B><BR>
    In Messaging Server 3.5, the hostname aliases feature is designed to facilitate migrating and co-hosting. For
    instance, if you set up all of your sales and marketing users on one Messaging Server, but suspect that you'll
    want to split those groups in the future, you can give the sales users the mailhost value sales.company.com and
    the marketing users the mailhost value mktg.company.com. This feature can also be used for fast failover if
    you want to be able to move a group of users quickly from one Messaging Server to another.
    <P>
    <B>How to use hostname aliases and how to set mailhost and MessageHostName settings: </B><BR>
    Each user's mailhost attribute can have only one value. All users on a single Messaging Server do not need to
    have the same mailhost value in the LDAP directory. The user's mailhost value should match one of the
    MessageHostName attribute values in netscape.mail.conf. (On Unix, the path to this file is
    /etc/netscape.mail.conf. Windows NT users must use Notepad to create this file in
    server-root\bin\mail\Server\etc, where server-root is the base directory where your SuiteSpot servers are
    installed.)
    <P>
    With Messaging Server 3.5 and later, MessageHostName can have multiple values. Think of hostnames as
    colors. Each mail account in the LDAP server has a single color. Each Messaging Server has one or more
    colors. A Messaging Server will check an LDAP account's color (mailhost) against its own color(s)
    (MessageHostName), and if they match, the server considers the account to be local. <P>
    For example: <BR>
    MessageHostName=red.company.com,green.company.com,blue.company.com
    <BR>where original-host-name is the machine's real name. This entry must come first as the server uses the first
    entry to generate machine specific postmaster forms. The subsequent host names can be any values that you
    wish separated by commas that are inside the brackets. Do not place spaces anywhere on the line.
    <P>
    In this example, if the mailhost setting for the user is set for either red.company.com or green.company.com, or
    blue.company.com, the server will consider the user to be local. (Hostname aliases must also be configured in
    DNS. Please see the DNS section at the end of this technote.) No other Messaging Server should list either
    red.company.com or green.company.com or blue.company.com in the MessageHostName field. Mail could
    not be delivered properly if either red.company.com or green.company.com or blue.company.com were listed
    in any other server's MessageHostName field. A user with a mailhost setting of violet.company.com would not
    be considered local to this machine.
    <P>
    Although it is possible with Messaging Server 3.52 to list more than 16 different host names in the
    MessageHostName field, it is not recommended because increasing the number of hostnames in this field beyond
    16 will have a negative impact on performance. This feature is intended to provide fast failover and/or
    migration of users. If users need to be divided up into many smaller groups, the use of some other LDAP
    attribute is recommended.
    <P>
    In Messaging Server 3.0, you can associate a server with only one host name. Consequently, all mail accounts
    on a given server must have the same mailhost value in the LDAP directory. This should be the name of the
    server, i.e. host.company.com
    <P>
    </A>A note about DNS
    Hostname aliases must be configured in DNS. This is done with a CNAME record. For example:
    A 128.101.101.101
    CNAME
    <P>
    Additional MX records are not required to use hostname aliases.
    <P>
    If you aren't sure about how to configure your DNS records, consult the book <I>DNS and Bind </I> by Paul Albitz and
    Cricket Liu.

  • Unable to open Messaging Server 6.2 through admin console 5.2

    my system is
    Sun Java(tm) System Messaging Server 6.2-3.05 (built Nov 23 2005)
    libimta.dll 6.2-3.05 (built 02:22:19, Nov 23 2005)
    Microsoft Windows 2000 version 5.2 (Build 3790)
    i installed Sun Java Enterprise System (directory, admin, messaging) servers on my windows 2003 server, all is working fine except:
    1- unable to open my messaging server through my admin console 5.2.
    when checking the error log file i see
    "[05/Jun/2006:10:51:49] failure ( 2624): for host t.est.hotmail.com trying to GET /msg-config/tasks/operation/cgi_root, cgi_scan_headers reports: the CGI program E:\Sun\Server-Root\bin\msg\admin\bin\cgi_root.exe did not produce a valid header (program terminated without a valid CGI header. Check for core dump or other abnormal termination)"
    Any clue?
    2- When creating a new user through the admin console 5.2, and check the mail account checkbox, i don't get the "mail tab" to complete the needed information, and therefore the newly created user is not an active email account as mainly the mailhost attribute has not been created for the account
    Is this related to the problem in point 1?
    NOTE 1: i ran cmm_dssetup.pl before configuring the messaging server and selected schema 1
    NOTE 2: i downloaded the software from sun.com, didn't register it yet as i'm in the testing phase
    Appreciate your help, direction and tips

    Oh, my.....
    1. The Directory Console is not very useful, for anything in Messaging 6. The MTA is configured via editing files, and the mail store is better configured using the configutil utility.
    2. You SHOULD NOT attempt to create users with the Directory Console. They won't work. Use either the command-line tools provided (comm-admin), or use the Delegated Admin tool provided.

    Hi,
    I had the same problem, but i didn't get any answer in that forum.
    I deinstalled the SAP Software (regard the end of the threat
    https://forums.sdn.sap.com/click.jspa?searchID=22036513&messageID=6625975) and then I installed the software again. Then the system ran and i didn't have any more problems with the message server.
    I didn't installed the MS Loopback Adapter, because i am connected to a network.
    Best regards,
    Günther Klee

  • Can not start Messaging server in Sun Java System Messaging Server 6 2005Q1

    Hi all,
    I installed Sun Java System Messaging Server 6 2005Q1 from Solaris 10 DVD on Solaris 10.
    After the installation, I got directory server, admin server running but messaging server not running. I can not start Messaging server (start smtp, http, pop, imap). I found in directory which I installed messaging server but I could not see script "start-msg" and "stop-msg".
    # pwd
    /opt/SUNWmsgsr/sbin
    # ls
    MoveUser ha_ip_config imquotacheck imsdirmig mkbackupdir
    UpgradeMsg5toMsg6.pl hashdir imsbackup imsexport readership
    configure imexpire imsconnutil imsimport reconstruct
    control-params.txt iminitquota imscripter imsrestore relinker
    deliver immonitor-access imsdaaci mboxutil useconfig
    Any idea what might have gone wrong?
    Thanks.

    Thanks.
    I have a problem when I configure the Messaging Server (by running the /opt/SUNWmsgsr/sbin/configure script):
    Hostname mailtest for this machine is not a fully qualified domain name. Please
    correct this before attempting to configure Messaging Server. Please make sure
    that your DNS is working properly.
    <Press ENTER to continue> {"<" goes back, "!" exits}
    Can you help me fix this problem?
    Thanks.

    Hi Venigalla,
    You can implement a federated portal network (FPN) using the SAP NetWeaver platform to share content between portals.
    A federated portal network allows organizations with distributed portal installations, both SAP and non-SAP, to provide a single portal access point per user to portal information, services and applications distributed on portals in the network.
    WSRP-based application sharing (FPN Mode used for for integrating content between SAP and Non SAP portals) :-
    -->     Content administrators on a SAP NetWeaver consumer portal can integrate WSRP portlets (i.e. iViews) from remote non-SAP portals into SAP NetWeaver Portal.
    -->      SAP NetWeaver developers can create WSRP compliant iViews that can be consumed in non-SAP consumer portals.
    You may kindly go through the below link, should be helpful:

    Hi uday kumar,
    First thank you to tried to help me!
    --> So... I have a problem... in that checked that you asked, I donu00B4t have acess to all clients in system... Iu00B4m only able to login to client 000 and 100 and in that clients that two users SAPJSF and J2ee_admin donu00B4t exist!! But maybe in 001... I donu00B4t know!! Itu00B4s any other way to know that? I think through configtool in j2ee directory... but I donu00B4t get that, maybe because I donu00B4t have the JAVA part active!!
    --> And other thing, you recommed me to "Check the profile parameters once, try change the JVM setting and check were you able to start the server"...  What you want to say with JVM setting.. sorry Iu00B4m still newest in sap world... can you explain me better what you wanted to say..?! Thanks.
    --> Other think and the last... I checked the sapstartsrv.log in D:\usr\sap\PSM\SCS00\work directory path and in that it said this:
    trc file: "sapstartsrv.log", trc level: 0, release: "700"
    Mon Mar 09 11:13:46 2009
    <<- ERROR: SapSSLInit(read_profile=1)==SSSLERR_LIB_NOT_FOUND
    Can you help me?!... thanks a lot!
    Best regards,

  • Installing Messaging Server on Windows XP

    Folks, I'm trying very hard to install the Messaging Server on my laptop running XP. Actually, I'm interested in evaluating the Calendar Server, but it seems I need the SJSMS as well if I want to be able to programmatically subscribe to notification events when items change on the SJSCS.
    Unfortunately, I can't really tell if the darned thing installs as part of the JES installation. It doesn't show up in the program group under Sun whereas Calendar Server, Portal Server, etc. all show up.
    So I tried re-installing just the Messaging Server. It promptly removed everything else from the Start->All Programs->Sun program group. The other bits and pieces still have their directories all available, but interestingly, the log now shows that calendar server isn't running any more. Still no Messaging server in the Sun program group.
    So I tried re-installing yet another time. This time is claimed to UNINSTALL the SJSMS!
    I'm at the point where I plan to uninstall the entire JES and start again. This is an evaluation install, so I'm just hoping to have the Calendar Server and the Messaging Server (and of course, the Directory Server as it's a required component for the other two).
    My question: Does the SJSMS work on XP? If so, what's a good way to test? I can't seem to find the JBiff.java program anywhere on my system, although the docs indicate that's what I should use for testing! I also can't find it online at Sun's web site.
    Thanks,
    MK

    Java Enterprise System 2005 Q4 supports Windows XP as developer evaluation platform. Messaging, Calendar are part of this release. Both can be evaluated on Windows XP starting from 2005 Q1 release.
    From the original message, the main issue seem to be missing Messaging in Program groups. Messaging Server is not directly
    installer under C:\Sun similar to other products, it is installed C:\Sun\server-root as it requries the Administration Server.
    There should be services created for Messaging
    Please see the summary.txt file in your install root that describes where Messaging has been installed and other details thaat are used for setting up the evaluation configuration.
    To evaluate calendar, select custom option, choose 'configure automatically; in product selection, uncheck all products, select Calendar (which auto selects other dependencies),and proceed.
