Metachain - after activation, is it best practice to schedule or not to

Metachain-type process chains do not need to be scheduled to run when they are called.  As long as they have been activated, metachains wil run when they are called by another chain.  Nonetheless, it has been my personal practice to schedule metachains after activation.  This appears to allow run parameters to be set, such as priority and server.  It also schedules included processes, such as interrupts.  The metachain still will not run until it is called from another process chain.
Are there any advantages or disadvantages to scheduling metachains after activation?

  • Best practice for schedule printing of spool requests

    Hi there,
I am searching for a method / best practice how to schedule the printing of different spool requests.
    The following situation:
A lot of different spool requests are generated in the night, but they should be printed at a specific time in the morning. So I am searching for a method to get the spool requests and print them to a specific printer at a specific time by job.
    Thanks ahead,
    Bernd

I found a (very old) SAP program RSPO0065 that seems to do just that. However it does not allow overriding the print paramters, so the actual jobs need be scheduled with the correct parameters, most notably the desired printer.

  • SAP best practice on scheduling agreements

    Hello all,
Our client is an automotive supplier and currently in the SAP environment we use spot POs for indirect purchasing (thru SRM) and scheduling agreement for direct procurement. The scheduling agreements have multiple lines and we try to process as much invoices as ERS as possible.
Currently some of the business units are proposing to have single line items in the SA rather than the multiple ones. The reason being huge no of SA lines being faxed and also supposing it to be a SAP suggested best practice to have ONLY one line item per SA.
I am not sure of any such best practice. Could you please help me with an single Vs multi line scheduling agreements pros and cons. Also what is the best practice that are seen in the automotive sector or being suggested by SAP.
Any SAP official documentation in the public domain will also help.
    Thanks

As per my experience, we have used both the ways, both have its pro's and cons.
In one instance we may feel that it is easy to handle one line per one SA and in that way we will create many SA's and in ither instance we may fell having one SA for multiple lines.
SAP does not give any best approach...or else SAP woul dhave provided the option for only one line.
As per my experience the Structuring of a SA should be based on the way you procure from the supplier  / Vendor.
We have one supplier who supplies 800+ materials, we can create one SA with 800 lines... But we have created multiple SA's based on the product category whcih is a bit easy to identify whcoih material goes into which SA and the Vendor is also happy as he knows that for one product there is a specific SA.
Hope this helps you in resolving your issue.,

  • Best Practice Building Block Library not accessible in Firefox

    Hello SAP Documentation Team,
I've just get aware of the <a href="http://help.sap.com/bp_bblibrary/500/BBlibrary_start.htm">Best Practice Building Block Library</a>. Unfortunately it can't be used with Firefox 1.5.0.4 because of a script error. I see the dropdown lists but when I select for example Country "Germany" nothing happens. In IE it works perfect.
    Regards
    Gregor

Hope that this will change with later Best Practice releases.

  • Best practice when upstream does not provide version number

I'm currently preparing a package for the game Dreamfall Chapters, unfortunately the Developer does not (yet) provide a Version number.
What is the best practice for this? Just count the releases and set epoch when they finally provide one themselves?
    thanks in advance!

If you are missing a version number, you could use the date. Prefix it with "r" in case you want to avoid epoch when upstream decides to start versioning.
    pkgver=r20140122
If you have another release on the same day, increment another subversion
    pkgver=r20140122.1
Counting the releases by hand is poor practice (you could miss one). Do it only if upstream provides the count.
Edit: To tie the version stronger to the release, you can also add a part of the archive hash, e.g. +m###### with the first 6 characters of the md5sum.
    pkgver=r20140122+m23df1e
Edit: r as prefix is better, thanks rumpelsepp.

  • Creating Billing Unit in CRM V1.2007 Best Practices C05

    Hi,
in C05 (Org Model with HR Integration) for Best Practices V1.2007 I have to create a Billing Unit.
That means, I have to create a Corporate Account.
For Creation of the Corporate Account i need a Number Range and a Grouping.
    My Question:
Maintaining Number Range and Grouping for Business Partners is described in C03.
In the Solution Builder C03 comes after C05.
So I have first to finish C03 manually via SPRO or at least I have to maintain a Number Range and a Grouping so that I´m able to create the Billing Unit as an Corporate Account and then proceed with C05?

    Hi Padma,
We are facing the same issue while installing Baseline Best practices.
"Transport numbers not fullfill the requirement"
We are trying to activate full solution.
I have already created a new work bench and customize request ,but stills its gvg "Transport numbers not fullfill the requirement".
Iam not able to find a solution for this on service market place.

  • Best practice for creating RFC destination entries for 3rd parties(Biztalk)

    Hi,
We are on SAP ECC 6 and we have been creating multiple RFC destination entries for the external 3rd party applications such as Biz-talk and others using TCP/IP connection type and sharing the programid.
The RFC connections with IDOC as data flow have been made using Synchronous mode for time critical ones(few) and majority through asynchronous mode for others. The RFC destination entries have been created for many interfaces which have unique RFC destinations with its corresponding ports defined in SAP.
We have both inbound and outbound connectivity.with the large number of RFC destinations being added we wanted to review the same. We wanted to check with others who had encountered similar situation and were keen to learn their experiences.
We also wanted to know if there are any best practices to optimise on number of RFC destinations.
Here were a few suggestions we had in mind to tackle the same.
    1. Create unique RFC destinations for every port defined in SAP for external applications as Biztalk for as many connections. ( This would mean one for inbound, one for outbound)
    2. Create one single RFC destination entry for the external host/application and the external application receiving the idoc control record to interpret what action to perform at its end.
    3. Create RFC destinations based on the modules it links with such as materials management, sales and distribution, warehouse management. This would ensure we can limit the number of RFC to be created and make it simple to understand the flow of data.
I have done checks on SAP best practices website, sap oss notes and help pages but could not get specific information I was after.
I do understand we can have as unlimited number of RFC destinations and maximum connections using appropriate profile parameters for gateway, RFC, client connections, additional app servers.
I would appreciate if you can suggest the best architecture or practice to achieve  RFC destinations in an optimized manner.
    Thanks in advance
    Sam

Not easy to give a perfect answer
    1. Create unique RFC destinations for every port defined in SAP for external applications as Biztalk for as many connections. ( This would mean one for inbound, one for outbound)
-> be careful if you have multi cllients ( for example in acceptance) RFC's are client independ but ports are not! you could run in to trouble
    2. Create one single RFC destination entry for the external host/application and the external application receiving the idoc control record to interpret what action to perform at its end.
-> could be the best solution... its easier to create partner profiles and the control record will contain the correct partner.
    3. Create RFC destinations based on the modules it links with such as materials management, sales and distribution, warehouse management. This would ensure we can limit the number of RFC to be created and make it simple to understand the flow of data.
    -> consider this option 2.
We send to you messagebroker with 1 RFC destination , sending multiple idoctypes, different partners , different ports.

  • AD Built-In groups that should be avoided as best practice

I am on a 2008r2 domain.  I spoke to a security engineer from Microsoft a few years ago.  He mentioned some known issues that can occur from using some of the built-in security groups like Account Operators, Backup Operators, Server Operators,
etc. I know all of the users of those protected groups get stamped with the adminsdholder account, but does anyone have a good webpage that talks about which built-on groups should really be avoided as best practice?  I am not as concerned with the actual
admin groups as those are pretty obvious.
    Thanks,
    Dan Heim

Because being member of those groups mentioned means you can effectively become a Enterprise Admin of the entire forest cause they can reset passwords, logon to domain controllers etc. Take his advice and don't use them, they exists as a legacy from Windows
    NT 4.0.
Use delegation in Active Directory instead to delegate proper permissions.

  • Oracle Best practices for changing  Byte to Char on Varchar2 columns

    Dear Team,
Application Team wanted to change Byte to Char on Varchar2 columns to accommodate Multi byte character  on couple of production tables.
Wanted to know is it safe to have mixture of BYTE and CHAR semantics in the same table i have read on the couple of documents that It's good practice to avoid using a mixture of BYTE and CHAR semantics columns in the same table.
What happens if we have mixture of BYTE and CHAR semantics columns in the same table?
Do we need to gather stats & rebuild indexes on the table after these column changes .
    Thanks in Advance !!!
    SK

Application Team wanted to change Byte to Char on Varchar2 columns to accommodate Multi byte character  on couple of production tables.
Wanted to know is it safe to have mixture of BYTE and CHAR semantics in the same table i have read on the couple of documents that It's good practice to avoid using a mixture of BYTE and CHAR semantics columns in the same table.
No change is needed to 'accommodate Multibyte characters'. That support has NOTHING to do with whether a column is specified using BYTE or CHAR.
In 11g the limit for a VARCHAR2 column is 4000 bytes, period. If you specify CHAR and try to insert 1001 characters that each take 4 bytes you will get an exception since that would require 4004 bytes and the limit is 4000 bytes.
In practice the use of CHAR is mostly a convenience to the developer when defining columns for multibyte characters. For example for a NAME column you might want to make sure Oracle will allocate room for 50 characters REGARDLESS of the actual length in bytes.
If you provide a name of 50 one byte characters then only 50 bytes will be used. Provide a name of 50 four byte characters and 200 bytes will be used.
So if  that NAME column was defined using BYTE how would you know what length to use for the column? Fifty BYTES will seldom be long enough and 200 bytes SEEMS large since the business user wants a limit of FIFTY characters.
That is why such columns would typically use CHAR; so that the length (fifty) defined for the column matches the logical length of the number of characters.
What happens if we have mixture of BYTE and CHAR semantics columns in the same table?
Nothing happens - Oracle could care less.
Do we need to gather stats & rebuild indexes on the table after these column changes .
No - not if you by 'need' you mean simply because you made ONLY that change.
But that begs the question: if the table already exists, has data and has been in use without their being any problems then why bother changing things now?
In other words: if it ain't broke why try to fix it?
So back to your question of 'best practices'
Best practices is to set the length semantics at the database level when the database is first created and to then use that same setting (BYTE or CHAR) when you create new objects or make DDL changes.
Best practices is also to not fix things that aren't broken.
See the 'Length Semantics' section of the globalization support guide for more best practices

  • Best Practice for monitoring database targets configured for Data Guard

We are in the process of migrating our DB targets to 12c Cloud Control.
In our current 10g environment the Primary Targets are monitored and administered by OEM GC A, and the Standby Targets are monitored by OEM GC B.  Originally, I believe this was because of proximity and network speed, and over time it evolved to a Primary/Standby separation.  One of the greatest challenges in this configuration is keeping OEM jobs in sync on both sides (in case of switchover/failover).
For our new OEM CC environment we are setting up CC A and CC B.  However, I would like to determine if it would be smarter to monitor all DB targets (Primary and Standby) from the same CC console.  In other words, monitor and administer DB Primary and Standby from the same OEM CC Console.   I am trying to determine the best practice.  I am not sure if administering a swichover from Cloud Control from Primary to Standby requires that both targets are monitored in the same environment or not.
I am interested in feedback.   I am also interested in finding good reference materials (I have been looking at Oracle documentation and other documents online).   Thanks for your input and thoughts.  I am deliberately trying to keep this as concise as possible.

OMS is a tool it is not need to monitor your primary and standby what is what I meant by the comment.
The reason you need the same OMS to monitor both the primary and the standby is in the Data Guard administration screen it will show both targets. You also will have the option of doing switch-overs and fail-overs as well as convert the primary or standby. One of the options is also to move all the jobs that are scheduled with primary over to the standby during a switch-over or fail-over.
There is no document that states that you need to have all targets on one OMS but that is the best method for the reason of having OMS. OMS is a tool to have all targets in a central repository. If you start have different OMS server and OMS repository you will need to log into separate OMS to administrator the targets.

  • Best practice for component layout?

Hi,can people tell me their views on best practice in this area, using JSF.
    Eg, say I want this:
        LabelSml    InputField
LabelLarge  InputField... ie 2 labels, 2 fields, vertically alligned, and with some space between the label and the field.
    and this one:
Field                             Field... ie 2 fields with a lot of space between them.
Finally, are there any examples on the web of UIs with many discrete fields on them (as opposed to logon/helloWorld and matrix data control), where I can look at how the design has been done.
    Marc

I don't know if our solution is a best practice. We are not using the label property of input components because the alignment does not satisfy then. Instead we are using a <h:panelGrid> and nest <ui:label> and <ui:textField> (Studio Creator components) components in it. Multiple components in one cell are surrounded with a nested layout or grid panel. The number of columns is set by the attribute "columns" and width is controlled by the attribute "columnClasses". Example

  • Best Practice for Deleted AD Users

In our environment, we are not using AD groups. Users are being added individually. We are running User Profile Service but I am aware that when a user is deleted in AD, they stay in the content database in the UserInfo table so that some metadata can be
    retained (created by/modified by/etc).
What are best practices for whether or not to get rid of them from the content database(s)?
What do some of you consultants/admins out there do about this? It was brought up as a concern to me that they are still being seen in some list permissions/people picker, etc.
    Thank you!

Personally I would keep them to maintain metadata consistency (Created By etc as you say). I've not had it raised as a concern anywhere I've worked.
However, there are heaps of resources online to delete such users (even in bulk via Powershell). As such, I am unaware of cases of deleting them causing major problems.

so we need to analyze the business requirements and propose a process for refinery management  .
step 1: arrival of goods in docks
step 2: raw sugar need to be charged in our stock ( quantity and value ) but is not  our property
step 3: goods need to be delivered to our plant ( we pay the transport as service for our business partner )
step 4: goods need to be verified ( for quality and quantity ) and accepted by operators
step 5: goods are processed in a refinery plant, we need to verify timing, costs, quantity and human resources employed ( for costs remittance and transfer  )
step 6: sugar is delivered to other industrial plants, warehouse and finally sold ( but is not our property ), for us it's like a refinery service.
step 7: we need to trace production lot from raw sugar arrival to the docks up to step 6 .
step 8: inventory and  maintenance costs need to be traced because our profit is a part of this refinery service reduced by costs incurred
any suggestions to find the right best practice ?
I'm not a skilled BPS, I was looking for oil refinery but  is not the same process, so.. what can i look for?

    Hi Kumar,
In order to have Consigment in SAP u need to have master data such as material master, vendor master and purchase inforecord of consignment type. U have to enter the item category k when u enter PO. The goods receipt post in vendor consignment stock will be non valuated.
    1. The intial steps starts with raising purchase order for the consignment item
    2. The vendor recieves the purchase order.
    3. GR happens for the consignment material.
    4. Stocks are recieved and placed under consignment stock.
    5. When ever we issue to prodn or if we transfer post(using mov 411) from consignment to own stock then liability occurs.
    6. Finally comes the settlement using mrko. You settle the amount for the goods which was consumed during a specific period.
