Metis 266 (6390v2.x) corrupting registry with XP Pro

Hi All,
We have 40 of the MSI Metis 266 Slim Case PCs with the MS-6390v2.0 mainboards, BIOS 2.4 and 2.5.
With XP Pro SP1 installed with all Windows Update patches, we are experiencing random registry corruptions with the following error message:
"Windows cannot start because a file is missing or corrupted. The file is WINDOWSSYSTEM32CONFIGSYSTEM"
Could this be a faulty RAM issue?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

*In memtest86 you can enter the configuration menaue and tell it to run all tests including the advanced ones which are usually not preformed.
Do any of these boards have leaking capacitors ?
If you do a complete hardware swap between a working system and a falty system does the problem pass to the working one or does it stay with the board ?

Screen freezes with Metis 266

I just purchased a new MSI Metis 266 NetPC.
The specs are as follows:
MS-6252 barebone
MS-6390v2.x mainboard
AMD Athlon XP 2000+ CPU
256MB PC 2100 DDR memory
Maxtor 80GB, 7200 rpm hard drive
LG 52x24x52 black cdrw
Panasonic 1.44 floppy (black)
I am using Windows XP Pro as well as only the onboard video.
Now, the problem i am having is occasionally, the screen will lockup. I have MSN Messenger running and also Internet Explorer 6.x (latest)
The CPU temp is within normal parameters. Any idea?

As JustinC pointed out, it would be better you were running a more 'mature' OS (also CoreAudio is part of Quicktime so if you have updated QT and not the OS you could, possibly, be running an incompatible version of CoreAudio, i'm not too sure about that.)
But considering the symptoms you mentioned, and the fact you are running very few audio tracks, I'm assuming you run a lot of MIDI.
The symptoms you describe sound a lot like a MIDI feedback loop.
You don't have any sort of inter-app MIDI routing enabled, do you ?
If you do, you need to isolate the inter-app inputs from the sequencer input, or be very careful not to select tracks which are assigned to an inter-app port (or 'all' ports)
Oh, and update the OS anyway, there is no good reason to stick with 10.3.0

Metis 266 w/ 160GB hard disk?

I bought a Metis 266 to replace a slow NAS I had for file sharing (its capacity was too small and I could gain a printer server with the Metis). Well, I already had the 160 GB Maxtor disk partitioned into 2 parts, one is 4 GB for the OS and the other was the remainder of the disk (about 150 GB). Immediately I discovered all data on the large partition was corrupted (or at least unreadable by the Metis). I reformat and start copy all of my files. All looks good. I then decide to dump the remainder of the files I have (over 120 GB) and wake up to find the machine rebooted and the boot partition now corrupted. I reloaded once again and, well, the boot partition gets corrupted again. I repartition completely, install, and copy all of my files again. Not surprisingly, there is only 128GB of available space (3GB + 124 GB partitions now set up). I'm using Windows 2000 and disk manager shows no additional unpartitioned space. All of my files copy correctly now, but I lose capacity and only have 7 GB of available. I would like all 160 GB addressable since the only real purpose of this unit is to be a file server. I thought this thing could address 48-bit LBA, but it doesn't mention anything in the manual anywhere. What is strange is that the BIOS reports the 163GB drive correctly. I find this all very strange. Am I stuck with 128 GB? I cannot find any low profile IDE cards out there that will do the job, SIIG has one but it is limited to 128 GB drives. I was planning on later upgrading the Maxtor to an even larger disk, so you can see the 7 GB I have left won't last me long. I can get by for now. Any help on getting around this is appreciated.

I've been playing with this for a couple of days now. I'm so glad I don't have to rely on this barebones pc, but I find this setback frustrating and time consuming. Trying various settings, partition sizes, and drivers have not allowed me to utilize the entire capacity of the drive. Every time I create a combination of partitions to utilize the entire 160GB and I start filling up the capacity, the same thing happens. I reach a certain point during file copy, a reboot is forced, and my boot partition is corrupted. The problem is I cannot pinpoint the exact reason for this. The BIOS reports the correct size, all of the Maxtor utilities are able to verify and test the drive, I partition and format, and begin copying files. Only during this process do things foul up. I've used this drive for a while and it tests good, so I know that is not the problem. Windows 2000 is up to date and shouldn't be a problem either (it works fine with a 250GB disk on my other system). I suspect the implementation for large disk support is flawed in the BIOS or Via drivers somewhere. My next step is to acquire a Highpoint ATA low profile controller card (either their own card or the Adaptec RAID version). I know these cards are available in the format I need and hopefully large disk support is implemented correctly.

Acrobat XI Creates Corrupt Registry Entry

I need help with what to do, if anything, with what appears to be the addition of a corrupt registry entry after installing Adobe Acrobat XI.
The corrupt entry was added to: HKLM\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run
The entry that was added only contains the following four characters: @=””
The entry is not visible when using regedit. I just happen to see it when I exported Run to a .reg file and looked at with notepad.

Not that I know of at this time.
My concern is that this entry may cause problems if other entries are added to this location, which is quite possible, or when and if I try to remove Acrobat XI.
My hunch is that this entry was supposed to be Acorbat-sl.exe but I don’t know.

Skype corrupted registry keys (?) and error 1603

The predecessor version to the 6.22.64.107 version had error code 1603. The error code basically stated that there was an error with the registry keys. I never found the solution to the problem. I think it was either the registry keys failing to completely uninstall, they were corrupted or it was both of them. I asked for help wherever I could ask for it and I got none; all the responses were the typical, generic ones that said to re-install Skype, linked me to past people's problems with the same issue. It got very frustrating.
I figured that if I tried installing the new version of Skype I would get my Skype back (I've been Skype free since about September now) as the registry keys may be different for it.
I tried re-installing the new Skype today using Google Chrome, but the Skype file that opened up was the "SkypeSetUpFull" as opposed to the "Skypesetup", that was supposed to show. I got the same "error code 1603" message and Skype failed to install.
So, I went on to Internet Explorer to try to install the newest, updated Skype. I got the same Skype error as above.

I really do apologize for my recent inactivity. I'm back now and I'd like to solve this issue once and for all.
I've tried the above (except for the hotfixes because I do not know how they work) and nothing's worked.
I've tried the generic help solutions and nothing's worked. I believe the issue is with registry keys or with corrupted registry keys and missing startup software.
I have a question that needs an answer:
In an effort to completely remove Skype from my system, I removed its startup software from the startup list on CCleaner. Subsequently, whenever I try to install Skype from the official Skype website or any other site, the installer that I'm presented with is "SkypeSetUpFull" and not "Skypesetup".
Is there any way to fix this error?

I have a Toashiba Equium A210 - 1CA running Windows 7. A couple of months ago the screen totally frooze with nothing happening for quite some time. Fortunately i had a computer friend visiting who looked at it and changed the hard drive. Everything worked ok for a month or so. Last week it did the same again.The screen frooze and would not carry out any functions. I left it for half a day with no change.
Now Windows will not start up. It runs the windows repair service but I get the message "Startup repair cannot repair this computer automatically". Whe I look at the details it gives the following info:

Your answer is in Corrupt Registry arena as indicated in your finding as STARTUP LOGS are destryoed. Something added has corrupted a specific registry line(s) that even restore/recovery cannot correct. There is a good Anti-virus program installed we assume and malware program, as needed? To happen to a new drive is not uncommon but of a low ratio. Screen freeze could be assumed video and thus overheating could be occurring. Taking in for a service diagnostic would be advisable.

How to open a "corrupt" file with Numbers.
With excel it is possible to open such a file with the following error message :
"The file you are trying to open, 'filename.xls', is in a different format than specified by the file extension. Verify that the file is not corrupted and is from a trusted source before opening the file. Do you want to open the file now?"
Clicking YES, the file is opening correctly with XLS.
How to do the same with Numbers?
When i try to open the same file with numbers i have no "error message" but the information contained in the file is not readable.

Yeah that's true to an extant; microsoft did a good job fixing that but unfortunately allowed it to be re-introduced in 2006 with windows vista where they allowed file naming to receive destructive values (wasn't very fond of this);
in previous versions of windows such values once entered would be followed by an error message telling you those values couldn't be used
I wasn't aware it would pop its ugly head back up into windows 7 but I see otherwise as in the case of mine
(I forgot to mention the period preceded a parenthesis which in turn can be destructive to the file's original format)
Anyway photoshop wont open the file after changing it to .psd leaving an error message stating....
'Could not complete your request because the file is not compatible with this version of photoshop'

Oc4j standalone 10.1.3.3 and service registry with ssl install help needed

I'm trying to install service registry with oc4j standalone for testing and demoing but am having some difficulty with the ssl side of things.
I have setup a oc4j standalone 10.1.3.3 and configured the following ports:
default http port: 9991
ormi port: 9992
ormi ssl port: 9993
https port: 9994
I have configured oc4j standalone for SSl as per instructions by copying default-web-site.xml to secure-web-site.xml and added secure="true" to <web-site> tag and added <ssl-config keystore..../> as well. I've also modified server .xml and added <web-site path="./secure-web-site.xml" /> into the file.
I have then installed service registry as a publication (discovery) with http port pointing to 9991 and ssl enabled pointing to 9994 with oracle database.
I can load http://localhost:9991/ and also https://localhost:9994 and both secure and non-secure page loads fine for the oc4j webpage. I can load http://localhost:9991/registry/uddi/web/ page but when I click on any of the link on it tries to load https://localhost:9994/registry/uddi/web i get a http 404 not found error.
Tried googling and searching the forum for info, but I'm in need of a little help on where I went wrong.

Corruption problem with iPod

okay, so I have a strange corruption problem with my iPod: no matter now many times I attempt to restore, nothing seems to happen. How do I fix this?
NOTE: Whenever I attempt to play it, my iPod is always displaying the following message: Connect to your computer. Use iTunes to restore.

God d*mmit, a very simaler problem just happened again! Only this time I didn't drop it or anything. An error message occurs whenever I connect the iPod (which seems to be fine) to the computer. And the iPod appears in "My Computer" but not iTunes (so I can't even sync/restore it) Based on that, it's probably an error mostly having to do with the iPod/computer connection. I even made a screenshot of this! Take a look (the error message is at the bottom right):

Metis 266 configurations

I am interested in building a PC based on this Metis 266 small form factor case. Below are the components I want to put in it. I am migrating from my current atx case.
Athlon 1700XP, 512mb pc2100, Maxtor 80GB 7200 rpm, RADEON 9500 PRO, CDRW.
My main concern is the size of the RADEON 9500 pro. The PCI slots seem to be half size but none of the documentation says that there is a limitation on the AGP cards.
Does anyone have a radeon 9500/9800 in their Metis? Does anyone have a similar configuration? If so how does it benchmark?

Adobe Story Script integration with Premiere Pro Doesnt allow me to embed the script

Goal: Embed an Adobe Story Script into Premiere Pro. (mac)
Method: I have a video with a verbatim transcript.
I inport the transcript into Adobe Story and save it in the proper Adobe Story File extension (.astx)
I save it to the Adobe cloud and I have also exported it to my desktop.
I launch Premiere Pro and import the video that I have transcribed.
The I try one of 3 ways to get the script to the video in PP.
The first steps are the same as below:
I go to Adobe Story and log in from within PP.
I locate the file.
I add a Scene.
I make sure the scene is the same as it is within PP
then...
1.
I drag and drop it onto the Movie file.
Nothing appears within the Embed Adobe Story Script Meta Data field.
2.
I click on Analyze and the Embed Adobe Story Script script checkbox remains greyed out (Unable to select it)
If I click Analyze then PP will analyze the script (does a decent job) but this is NOT what I want. I want to attach the verbatim script to the video which is why I have it transcribed.
3.
Right click on the movie file within PP and the contextual menu allows me to attach a script.
I locate my downloaded .astx file on my Mac and select it.
Still nothing appears within the Embed Adobe Story Metadata field.
I have worked with Anand from support who suggested I post this question here.
I dont know if there are only certain Adobe templates for which this will work (ie TV script, Film etc)
He suggested that this would most likely work only for the .mov file formats, but then discovered that it should work even for .mp4 files.
In any case - if anyone has any thoughts, ideas, or has experience with this It would be greatly appreciated.
