Microphone working but faulty probably after Win 8.1 upgrade

Hi, internal microphone used to work OK but now its functioning but not picking up my voice, it gives the impression its "listening" to something else, a skype test just returns "background" noises, I dont think its a garbled version of my speech as the sound bars do not fluctuate in line with me shouting abuse at it. Any ideas?
(tried borrowing external mic, worked fine)
(Win 8.1)

Bill, thanks for that info. I don't think I would ever expect to get any support from Adobe on these programs, since I stopped buying revisions after CS4. I was surprised that I was even able to successfully install the CS4 Web suite onto Win 8.0, and Win 8.1 probably adds another couple hundred million lines of redundant code from our friends in Bill Gates-Land.
However, my A-Pro9 problem did resolve unexpectedly!  I tried opening all the suite's programs, one at a time, and then Acrobat, with no luck. Then I realized that the suite had installed both 64-bit and 32-bit versions of Photoshop (I use the 64-bit version) onto my new 64-bit computer.  So, when I opened the *32-bit Photoshop* for a minute, closed it, and re-opened Acrobat 9, it went back to working normally.  I'll take it!

So far Apple has not upgraded the other Mac OS X versions to iCloud.  She can manually enter information to be synced in the cloud but that is really tedious.

  • [Unusual Case] Microphone works but Built-in Speak...

I've just returned from a 2-week trip.  After I got home I  tried skyping my girlfirend and she had no problem hearing me. HOWEVER, I could not hear a word from her or any other person. My built-in speaker works on every other program but Skype. I've tried going into Tools->Options->Audio Settings and set both my microphone and speakers into Yeti Stereo Microphone but only Microphone works. In addition to that , I have called Echo/Sound Test Service and I could hear the bot fine except for real humans. A promptly response will be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks!!

I had a similar problem with my external microphone, and for me it turned out that while I could see the device was operating properly I hadn't actually selected it to be active.
In manage recording devices you need to make sure the microphone has the green tick to say it is selected or it will go through all the diagnostics as working properly but you won't get any sound from it.

  • HP wireless TV connect no longer working after Win 8.1 "upgrade"

Help, my transmitter will not link to the box now that I have upgraded from Windows 8 to Windows8.1.
When first plugged in, the Trans light blinks 5 times fast, then no lights.  The receiver continually blinks slower and when the trans button is held, the lights both blink at the same speed, but will not link.
I removed and tried to "add new video source" but the "Please activate registration on transmitter unit" pops up and when attempting to push button, the two won't sync...
I looked for the HP trans in the devices but could not find it.  I check the HDMI card (disabled and enabled) to no avail...
Are there firmware patches for this device.  I need help ASAP as I need this functionality for work, but I had to have the upgrade for work as well...
I am getting a "tone" when the receiver fails from the laptop speakers

PROBLEM SOLVED ON ENVY 17 INTEL QUAD: Using Windows 8.1 with HP Wireless TV connect NOT linking issues.  I had the total 8.1 installed 4/12/2014 and even at this late a date, not all the wireless drivers were updated to their latest rev.  HP Support has a set of Intel driver updates and downloades; just select the ones you need, save and update.  With the update to all the associated applications, I believe there were 3 of them for my computer, I am now working well.  I am under warranty with my unit so I was fortunate to have, Likshima, a second level supervisor at HP who took the time to research this problem and find the solution, personally correct my issues!  Hope this helps because to my comprehension, an update is by far the safest solution!!!

  • Problems After Win 8.1 Upgrade - Two Additional Partitions Both With Same Volume Serial Number?

An update from Win 8 Pro to Win 8.1 Pro has occurred automatically on one of my machines.
Prior to the upgrade (from memory) the machine had an OEM Partition (40MB), EFI System Partition (500MB), Recovery Partition (8.17GB) and OS (C:) partition. Only the latter was visible in Computer.
After the 8.1 upgrade there are two additional partitions, Recovery (500MB) and Recovery (450MB). All the partitions are now displayed in This PC as drives except the 40MB OEM Partition.
When viewed in This PC both the two new drives (that appear to equate to the new partitions) show as 499MB each with the same amount of free space. In Disk Management the first new partition is shown as 500MB and the second as 450MB.
I have SugarSync installed on this machine and since the upgrade it is displaying an error telling me it won't work because the two new drives have the same Volume Serial Numbers.
Clearly something has gone wrong with the upgrade:
Is there any way to resolve the Volume Serial Number conflict?
Is there any way to stop all these drives appearing in This PC?
Do I need the two new partitions and if not how can I get rid of them?

There is a fourth path to upgrading to Windows 8.1 provided by Microsoft. Microsoft have been displaying automated reminders from time to time on Windows 8 computers that Windows 8.1 update is available to download - from these reminders it is possible to
choose either Install or Not Now.  Just recently these reminders have changed, they are instead notifying the user that the Windows 8.1 Update will be installed automatically or the user has options to postpone the installation for 1hr, 2hrs, etc. The
user of this computer tells me she went away from the machine and Windows 8.1 update installed automatically from one of these prompts.
I have seen these installation prompts on several of my customer's computers and they are not malware related (I deal with malware removal every day and would recognise this). However, I have scanned this computer with Bit Defender and MalwareBytes and there
    are no infections present.
The only difference between this Windows 8.1 Update and the others that I have carried out is that it wasn't controlled and therefore I wasn't able to disable the security software (Bit Defender Internet Security 2015). This may be the cause of the problem.
I've uploaded the two screenshots you asked for - the two new drives are W: and Z: and SugarSync is reporting that they have the same Volume Serial Numbers. Note: X: and Y: were not visible prior to the upgrade.
There are two Windows Update logs at C:\Windows\ so I will upload both.

  • Satellite P850-31L thinks Intel HD GPU driver is old after Win 8.1 upgrade

    Hi there,
I have had my Satellite P850-31L since last year and recently updated to windows 8.1.
This laptop has a NVIDIA GeForce GT 640M graphics card and it use to say that on my dxdiag.
Since updating to windows 8.1 my laptop seems to think I have a Intel HD Graphics 4000 and apparently it's out of date.
When I go on their site to test for the update.
I got told my graphics card is 'up to date' yet every thing else - including my toshiba driver manager says it's out of date.
I've tried updating yet I keep getting a message saying my system setting aren't good enough.
Anyne got any suggestions on what i can do.
Can I get my laptop to stop thinking it has a intel graphics when it has the NVIDEA chip

    > defterniko
After Windows 8.1 upgrade you should visit the Toshiba EU driver page and should update the drivers and utilities to the Windows 8.1 version.
Most people forget to do that they update the system from Windows 8 to Win 8.1 but dont update the drivers.
As mentioned by user IronMan; the installation instruction which is available on the Toshiba EU driver page shows you the driver and tool which needs to be updated and you should also follow the installation order mentioned in this instruction.

  • Cannot get to dual-boot screen after Win 8.1 upgrade

    Hello,
I have an iMac with Mavericks. Recently installed Win 8 to dual-boot. Instrux then were to hold OPT button during startup to be presented with options for OS with which to boot.
Since Win 8.1 upgrade there is no way to get to that prompt. MS/Win help topics not useful (unsurprisingly). I have the original install disk but would far prefer to save my current config of Mav. Thoughts for workaround?
    Cheers,
    Michael C

holding down option key at bootup not giving you the bootmenu have nothing to do with win8.1
even if one never installed anything in terms bootcamp at all then holding down the option key should give the option between osx and the restore to last clean osx version
if you don't get the option then I'd say the cause is not windows as the menu is handled by the bootloader which is before windows takes over

  • Display driver doesn't work after Win 8.1 upgrade

I have just upgraded my laptop's operating system from Win 7 Premium to Win 8.1 Enterprise.
After the upgrade, my display driver Intel HD graphics 3000 seemed to have stopped working. PC had got stuck on 1024 x 768 resolution.
I tried downloading Intel HD graphics 3000 from HP support "hp.com/in", but it was only compatible for Win 7 x86 and x64. Then searched on Intel website "downloadcenter.intel.com", I could see Intel graphic driver only for 2nd generation cores(i3, i5, i7), unfortnately mine was a first gen core i5 (i5-2430M). I also downloaded Intel(R) driver update utility 2.0 which is a auto drivers detect tool from Intel. It searched for missing display drivers, downloaded and installed, but still it is not a perfect match for my system.
I have been missing my laptop's high resolution quality for the past few days and its like going through hell. Any help from you ladies and gentlemen of HP or any computer experts will be much appreciated. Thank You.
I will provide my laptop specs below:
    Product name: HP Pavilion dv6-6154TX
    Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2430M CPU @2.40 GHz 2.40 GHz
    Max screen resolution: 1366 x 768
Operating system: Windows 8.1 Enterprise 32 bit
System type: 32 bit operating system, x64 based processor
Display drivers: Intel(R) HD graphics 3000, AMD Radeon HD 7400M series.
    Direct X version : DX 11
I am not sure whether, I have provided all the info necessary for you guys to assess. But i can put on any more info if you need.
Once again, I thank you very much for your time in reading and the help you would provide.

  • Microphone works but dictation does not work

My dictation software was working fine then suddnely not so much. I have ensured it has been enabled, I have selected automatic detection as the default, I have choesen the internal microphone as the default, I have chosen the external microphone as the default, I have even deleted the
file://localhost/Users/williams/Library/Preferences/com.apple.assistant.plist file and rebooted, tested my internal and external microphones through the system preferences dictation setup (both register as working while in dictation preferences as indicated by the microphone symbol responding to sound), I've ensured the language was set to english (US) and closed all other programs.
Once the dication command is selected the microphone pops up and viola no response as if the microphone is no longer working!!! I am sooo much more productive with the speech to text function and really need it back. Anyone with any new/additional suggestions will be most welcome and I appreciate the help!

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select

  • [SOLVED] flash (pulseaudio) works but got quiet after update

    Hi there,
Using pulseaudio, flash' audio output worked for me before `pacman -Syu` yesterday (last update was 2 or 3 weeks ago). Now there is still audio output, but it's very quiet. Really quiet. Like 2mm on the 10cm volume meter in pavucontrol.
The sound works flawlessly and waay louder with vlc. Of course I double checked volume settings, in flash, with pavucontrol and even alsamixer.
    What has changed?
    no ~/.asoundrc. /etc/asound.conf:
    # Use PulseAudio by default
    pcm.!default {
    type pulse
    fallback "sysdefault"
    hint {
    show on
description "Default ALSA Output (currently PulseAudio Sound Server)"
    ctl.!default {
    type pulse
    fallback "sysdefault"
    # vim:set ft=alsaconf:
EDIT: tried turning it off and on again - and now it works. w00t

  • WPA works but not consistently after pm-suspend on Samsung RC512-S01

After resuming from pm-suspend I proceed to use "sudo dhcpcd -k wlan0" and then re-run wpa_supplicant and dhcpcd (with success). The internet at this point will work and then sporadically stop/start working again. This causes me to have to refresh pages several times for them to load. When it is failing it is returning server not found.

Have you tried to unload your wireless driver in the correponding pm-suspend hook upon suspend? (its described in the pm-utils wiki).
