MIFi usage notification

I only use the Mi Fi as wireless connection to the internet. My employer has disabled the Wwan funtion in the software for whatever reason they have. Now I have to log into my verizon and check the usage on line since I cannot access the usage or recieve the usage notificaitons from the Wwan. Is there away to get the usage notificaions sent to as SMS text to primary line on contract?

To view the usage for your Mifi unit you can dial #3282 (#DATA) from a Verizon Wireless handset.
#DATA will provide you with the information for the number you are calling from, in addition to any other number you would like to check (i.e. The MiFi unit). After the recording has read the options for the number you were calling from, just press option 4 to check another lines usage (like the MiFi). You will receive a text message for the line you were calling from usage, however a text message will not be sent for the MiFi usage number.
I hope this information was helpful.

  • Data usage notifications

About two months ago I started my own plan through Verizon as opposed to being on my dad's plan. I signed up for the text and email notifications for my data usage, but I seem to be getting them as if they were linked to my old plan. I went from the 350MB plan to the 2GB plan, and I'll get texts saying "you've used 50% of your data when, in reality, I've used only a small percentage since I uped my plan. Is there a way to fix this?

Sjensen0116, Congrats on starting your own account with us! We appreciate your loyalty, indeed. I know the importance of receiving the correct alerts. Usually the alerts will update immediately after the plan change. When a plan change is made in the middle of your billing cycle, the usage can be prorated; causing alerts to be off, as well. Is this your first billing cycle on your new account plan? When you view your plan via your My Verizon account, are you seeing the new 2GB plan there? We'll figure this out together.

  • Mifi usage

I just purchased the MIFI2200 and am wondering, at what point does usage start to accumulate?  When unit is turned on or only when computer is accessing it?  I guess another way to ask is, do you use your Gs if unit is resting idle.
    Thanks

MyVerizon for a MiFi account, is impossible....the temporary password is sent directly to the MiFi.
The MiFi can access text messages if it is USB-connected to a Windows PC running VZAccess Manager.
I didn't want to install software for a WiFi only device, but you could visit a Verizon store and connect your MiFi to their VZAccess Manager.
If you don't read the text message within three days they will send the initial password via USMail.
This seems a particularly stupid way to deal with access to a simple account tool.  It's not banking, health, or anything else particularly important, and they want to use a verification that's not possible.
They should be able to verify you are connecting to their web site via a particular device by  checking your MAC address, or only allowing access via the network where MiFi enters their network.  Mediacom cable certainly can do that.
They could use a bunch of different verification methods, but the SMS message authentication is cast in stone somewhere.

  • Mifi Usage Overages-Help!

We started Verizon internet service with two of the wireless modems years ago. When Verizon came out with the mi-fi, we switched to that thinking we'd save money being able to switch to only internet account. After using this one for quite a while, we switched to the new 4GLTE for better reception (per the rep at our Verizon store's advice). As soon as we switched our usage increased.  We asked Verizon and never got any help except to find out we don't get 4G in our area. Our usage goes up and is now double what it was when were had the original mi-fi. We have two computers, but rarely is two on at one time. We don't download movie, videos etc. We're now using over 10 GB per month, according to Verizon. Any advice?

There really is no concrete explanation that I can give for your situation.  Verizon thinks that your device is pulling data at various times of the day so they are billing you for it accordingly.
We have seen several testemonies from other VZW customers where VZW has informed them that the relationship they have in a particular area with the tower owners is not ideal.  A tower belonging to another Service Provider may allow Verizon to piggyback off thier equiptment, but the billing that they recieve is skewed and delayed.  This paints an incorrect picture and does not reflect what actually happens for your usage.  That possibly explains situations for folks in "extended" service areas, but for full blown VZW coverage there should be no issues.
We have also seen several testimonies where a given device is misfiring and misbehaving.  In those situations VZW has swapped out the device for another or upgrade and the problem is resolved.  If you havent already worked with VZW on your situation this may be an option that you should persue.  A misbehaving device may also force some of your background services and applications to redownload the same content multiple times until it can recieve everything it needs in one consecuative chunk.
I have been playing around with a new app that may shed some light on your situation.  Take a look at something called NetWorx.  Networx is a broadband usage monitoring application that can be installed on computers.  What makes Networx nice is that it has a usage report that displays usage by application.  That feature will actually display who is consuming data and by how much.  If your computers are supported by Networx then I suggest giving that app a shot.  Install it on each of your computers and see if you can find a leak on any of them.

  • Data usage notification though mobile data off

I have recently been receiving text messages that my data usage has reached 90%, but my mobile data is off. Please help...may be I'm not aware of something.

What type of phone or devise do you have?? For example, I do not have this issue with my Droid MAXX. But my wife has this issue with her iPhone 5c 8GB. Therefore, in order for you to get a good reply or answer, you need to tell us what phone or device you have.

  • Unexplained Data Usage While iPhone is Not in Use

I have been a loyal customer to Verizon for 4 years. I had an iPhone 4S until Sept. 23rd, when I purchased an iPhone 6 Plus. Prior-to the swap, I received a data usage notification, saying I was at about 90%, on Sept. 19th. This was one day before my billing cycle restarted, so I ignored it. Now, I've had no change in use, no change in WiFi connectivity at home or work (which have been the same at both locations for 5 years), and in less than 2 weeks, I have, for the first time ever, gone .2 GB over my 2GB monthly allowance.
When I went into My Verizon to review the list of times/amounts of data use, I found something that neither Verizon, nor my common sense could explain, and the short of the response I received after 45 minutes on the phone was "we'll submit a billing review request." I don't care about the extra $10 or so for going over. I care for the following bullet-points:
    1. I am OCD; I close every app I use directly following use
    2. I have Background App Data shut off
    3. My email does not have anything stuck in "Outbox" or "Sent" in either my Exchange or Gmail accounts
    4. Nothing has changed relative to phone usage in the last 4 years
    5. THE MOST IMPORTANT FACT: These data spike are occurring at between 5:22am and 6:30am, before I'm even awake on weekdays, AT HOME, connected to my wireless router. The router is fine, and the phone works perfectly, as well as my router at work.
I'm also a back-end networking engineer. None of this makes sense.
Spikes from 70mb - (and in one instance) 250 mb while the phone is not in use, and connected to my home Wifi.
Additionally, one suggestion from Verizon rep "Jason" was to bring the phone to Apple, because there may be a problem with it.
Someone, anyone, please get me some answers on this. Right now, it seems like neither Verizon nor myself can detail the data use, and I simply don't want to deal with this headache every month.
I feel like Verizon is scamming me..

MichelleH_VZW - you responded to a commenter on my post, but not to the actual post. There was no help in that response. Any chance you can read above and give some insight?
I know what the dates and time are from looking at the rundown in My Verizon, and the peak data spikes (as noted above; 70-250 mb in a quick/brief timeframe) are during times when my phone is not in use (5:22am - 6:30am on weekdays, while I'm still asleep), when connected to my home wifi, and all apps are closed (no background app data is used as I have that shut off).
It would be awesome to have some restored faith in you guys, here..

  • Broadband usage contact email

From the Broadband usage page on My BT I see I've used up over 75% of my 40Gb download allowance and that BT have sent me an email to inform me of that. However the contact email is an old email no longer in use, I can't find anywhere to change it to my current email.
The main email attched to the account is vaild and BT contact me on that regularly for billing etc. I can access that one by 'Edit Account' on My BT.
Anyone know how to change the email BT send the usage notification to?
    Thanks.

    Hi tullyhubbert,
I can sort that for you if you use the 'contact the mods' link in my forum profile to send in your BT account details including the email address where you want the notifications to be sent. You can find the link by clicking on my username.

  • Usage SMS are annoying - how to stop at night??

Hi All, overnight I got the same SMS usage message from Telstra at 3.15am, 3.27am, 5.24am & 7.18am.. it was a 50% usage at 2 days to go.. no big deal..  why 4 times and how do I stop getting Telstra SMS's in the middle of the night.. very annoyed with Telstra!

I was woken at 0331 this-morning by a message from Telstra telling me that I have used 50% of my data allowance. There was a second, identical message at 0430. A third message at 0526, at which stage I angrily logged in to my account and turned notifications off. Despite turning notifications off, the messages have continued to arrive on my phone; at 0557, 0635, 0720, and the latest at 0744. I'm getting really, really pissed-off now, Telstra, for two reasons: 1. Why the hell does your system send people messages at 3.30a.m.?  In what universe is that even possibly acceptable?  It's not an emergency, it's a data-usage notification, and it is unbelievably inconsiderate to be sending people messages like that in the middle of the bloody night. 2. Why the hell haven't the messages stopped since I turned off the notifications? I shall await a reply, and I do hope said reply is more helpful than the robo-script replies I got from Telstra's email contact a few weeks ago when I had the same problem of SMS notifications arriving in the middle of the night! Totally unsatisfactory, Telstra.

  • Two usage notices on same day - account shaped - confused!

    Hey there.
Is this on your fixed service?
If so the usage meter can be delayed up to 48 hours, which can mean that you can end up with two notices close together as the system processes and updates the data.

    hi Sigei55
Did you have any further inquiries regarding your usage notifications?
    More than happy to assist.
    Regards

  • Why won't the messages stop?!?

I was woken at 0331 this-morning by a message from Telstra telling me that I have used 50% of my data allowance. There was a second, identical message at 0430. A third message at 0526, at which stage I angrily logged in to my account and turned notifications off. Despite turning notifications off, the messages have continued to arrive on my phone; at 0557, 0635, 0720, and the latest at 0744. I'm getting really, really pissed-off now, Telstra, for two reasons: 1. Well I am not 100% sure how it works however let’s say you were using data last night and you went through 50%, 75% and then 100% of your data. 5 hours later in the middle of the night it sends you a 50% data usage message, 5 minutes after that it sends you a 75% usage message and so on and so forth. It’s not an ideal system because of the delay however I guess if you weren’t to get the messages people would be unhappy about that as well. The delay in the usage is the problem.

  • Overage Alert!!  Verizon Jetpack -?Inviting Trojans in to use your computers?

I'm now more than 2 weeks into trying to resolve OUTRAGEOUS overage charges on a VZ MiFi being used by my 87 yr old father who lives 650 mi from me.  VZ sent him a new MiFi(2) over the TG holiday that didn't work, so he has intermittently had to use the MiFi(1) that registers MASSIVE amounts of data.  We are again waiting for another new MiFi(3).  The MiFi(2) was proven to be faulty by a 3rd party.
Interestingly, I've had by now, 2 'diamond tickets' where I've yet to receive any feedback.... guaranteed within 2-3 days.  RIGHT!  Text messages promised with some resolutions... NEVER received, nor have I ever been able to get to Tech Support for info they supposedly had on his MiFi usage, etc, etc.  I cannot call in to VZ without being routed to Financial and the up to Receivables.  There must be LOTS of entries on my account, but it takes FOREVER for them to be discovered and read and I have a feeling, that some of the info is sequestered.  For those of you who may be having the same issues, just call in to Customer Support with a land line or NON VZ cell or to some publicly offered entry point as though you are a new customer.  But, be assured that any follow up number they give you will route you right back to financial services WHO, BY THE WAY are CLOSED much of the time.  I've started just calling those numbers on my VZ cell, put it on speaker phone so the 'helpful' person can hear just how helpful the rest of the VZ system is.  They are generally speechless at this point.
I have discovered that there is software out there that VZ CAN USE to look at your MiFi and see what IP addresses are using it as an access point.  The best I can understand, there may be LARGE NUMBERS of IPs coming thru his MiFi(1).  A Trojan can create this scenario, apparently even with Norton running and Web Root as well.
I have other thoughts, questions that I'd like to suggest, but SERIOUSLY, VZ should be doing this, not me!!!  Working thru multiple 'helpers' that are NOT helpful at all and using my 87 yr old Dad as my 'hands on' trouble shooter is a REAL CHALLENGE!!!!  His car has broken down in the process of one of the trips to town for help and now his younger sister is hospitalized with a stroke, his girlfriend is ill in bed.  SERIOUSLY, I hope HE survives this!!!

Yeah! I'll tell you like I told all of the many Verizon reps. First, my JetPack is secure. Of course anything can be hacked. Second, I live in the middle of ten acres. So do my neighbors. They are hundreds of yards away. Third, they have their own internet access. Fourth, I have checked how far this particular JetPack can broadcast. It just barely gets to the thirty-foot that Verizon advertises. Fifth, my neighbor has the Verizon JetPack service and they can't get my signal, and I can't detect their signal. The other neighbors have Hughes and one has a direct feed DSL service from AT&T. Two have Verizon JetPack service. One told me she had usage at 5:00 a.m., 11: a.m., 5 p.m., 11: p.m. for several days. She called Verizon. They investigated and said they would take care of it, that it was a timing problem and it was on Verizon's side. She said it cleared up. But the times of usage were still wrong.
Read the posts. I went 2.34 GBs into overage on the first 24 hours of usage in my billing cycle, Nov. 21. My plan is 14 GB. So I used 16.34 GB in 24 hours. I haven't used that in any month previously.
Other posters have similar stories. One said a family member left Verizon's employment because he got tired of lying.
I was told by the Verizon rep. that if I went to the shared data plan of 14 GB from my 10 GB, that overage rates would change from $10 for 1 GB, to $10 for 2 GB. Turns out that I was outright lied to. The email from Verizon on Thanksgiving Day at about 6:30 a.m. said I had exceeded my usage of 14 GB by 2.34 GBs and each additional GB was $15. Surprise.
I am going to write a letter to Mr. Lowell McAdam, President and CEO of Verizon Wireless because, like you, I don't think he knows Verizon is taking unfair advantage of their customers. (Public knowledge moderator.) I have already filed an FCC complaint, but don't expect anything to come out of that.
One poster having similar problems with her 86-year-old fathers JetPack is concerned about his health during this stressful time. Somebody at Verizon needs to wake up! I am 70, and it's stressful enough for me. I am making a compilation of all these posts and letters and will send them to my son to see what action he would advise me to take. He's a lawyer. Has a few friends that are lawyers also. Wade.

  • 6 days into 1st month and I am at 50% data use?

I just got my first smart phone and come to find out that I have used 50% of my data plan in the first 6 days. What am I doing wrong? I have the 4g plan and am at 2.1G.

    Hi Bob_in_Redding,
I can certainly relate to your data usage concerns as my son had his 50% data usage notification within a week of the start of our billing cycle (this was about 3 months ago when he upgraded to an iPhone 5). Then we realized that he had WiFi disabled and he was always using cellular data. We enabled WiFi and he now connects to any open network when available and his data usage has stayed well below 2GB each month. Additionally he only allows applications to update when a WiFi connection is available. Try these simple tips and you will see the big difference in data usage. Using WiFi as much as possible will save you big on your data usage. Have a great evening!

  • Crazy data usage suddenly on Mifi! 10gb in one day?

I noticed earlier this month that I got a notification for my data usage only about 10 days into my plan and thought it was unusual, but as my son had been streaming a music video I increased my plan, downloaded said video and disconnected his computer from wifi.  Then, 3 days ago I get another notification and tell my son to no longer play games on his iphone and increase my plan yet again.  Today, I get another notification (son at school and wifi on his phone and computer are off) and I increase, yet again to 40GB!!!  I then go around and see what is connected to wifi, our ipad (which was only on a kindle book, not a game or surfing internet, nothing unusual), our Hopper from Dish (which I then disconnected, we do not stream as 4g is too slow and we don't want to use up our data) and turn off the wifi on 2 other iphones (that were running nothing in the background, but did it just in case).  I then almost immediately get an alert that I am at 77% of my new data plan (30.8 gb now) and I begin working on an excel spreadsheet with nothing running on my computer.  A couple of hours later I am at 90% of my data and now, as I write this message, I have gotten 2 more alerts saying that I am now over my 40 gb, so that would be at least 10gb of data used just in the last 6 hours!  A few hours ago I chatted with a Verizon chat and she said that it could be my phones, ipads, hoppers, basically anything but they cannot tell what,  I disconnected everything except this computer and restarted the mifi.  Something is clearly wrong.  They want me to turn it off every night for the next week before they will open a problem ticket but at this rate my bill is going to be absolutely insane!  I haven't changed any of my habits from the last year, other than what I mentioned earlier this month so I am completely baffled.  Help!
    See my log:

I have had VERY high data usage. 3GB in a few hours time. Verizon help line could not figure it out. I had a Verizon Jetpack 890L. I up graded to a newer model Verizon Jetpack MiFi 6620L in the middle of November. Data usage when even HIGHER! I noticed HIGH data usage in August of 2014. The HIGH data continued in September, October, and November of 2014. The newer Jetpack MiFi 6620L used even MORE data!
Verizon tech support was not much help. They wanted to know if I had changed the Jetpack password and they thought that someone was using my Jetpack WiFi. The problem is I live in a VERY rural area. My nearest neighbor is MORE than a mile away. My wireless network connection does not show ANY OTHER users! I still changed my password on the Jetpack. I normally change my passwords on a monthly basis. These changes made NO DIFFERENCE in my HIGH data usage. They also asked what was connected to my Jetpack. I have a phone by another provider. I DO NOT use the phone with the Blue Tooth or WiFi on my Jetpack . It's NOT needed for a clear phone signal. I only have my laptop (HP Pavilion) connected to the Jetpack. I have connected my printer by cable and don't even use the wireless printing functions. STILL NO CHANGE IN DATA USAGE!
The Verizon tech also suggested that I have an Internet Security and Antivirus software. I have used Norton Internet Security and Antivirus software for a decade or more without any problems. The tech suggested that maybe that was the problem. NOT! He felt that the Cloud setting maybe using all this data. I use Norton 360 with the Norton Zone Cloud. I DID NOT receive ANY FIXS from Verizon!
I also called Norton who provides my Internet Security and Antivirus software. I had been running these packages on an on going basis. I had not shown ANY threats or problems in the past year or more. I had the tech go over my settings to make sure that they were not the problem of HIGH Data Usage. My Norton Zone or Cloud settings were average without any high drain. He asked that I go back to Verizon!
I finally have found that I may have had Malware that was in my software. I used Malwarebytes. It works well wth my Norton 360. It has slowed my high data usage BUT NOT ELIMANATED the problem. Malwarebytes is a free service. You can also download it for free. You can purchase advance or premium packages on the internet and at some stores if you want a hard copy. It's always worth a try!
At this point I have run out of options!

  • Notification when have peaks in usage?

Hello - I downloaded MiFi data usage to spreadsheet to create following chart (chart was removed because invalid HTML??).  Verizon notifies me when I go over X% but would it be possible to get notified when usage peaks occur?  For example, when over 0.5 MB.  I am trying to figure out what these peaks are.  Thanks.

    Hi hoosier_almost,
I understand your desire for different alerts at certain peak data usage events. Lamentably, we are not able to provide more alerts than the ones set at certain percentage of data use as indicated in your post. Please keep in mind that data usage may peak/increase when an application is updating in the background, or a video is streaming. You can always keep track of your data if you login to your online account at vzw.com/MYVERIZON at your convenience.

  • Notification of tablespace usage not running

With grid control we have a system generated rule Database Availabilities and Critical States which include Tablespace usage.
if we would like to customized this rules, we are not ablke to select a tablespace part of a Cluster Database. Apparently due to the target type we are not able to select a tablespace of a Cluster database.
I have created a new rules with a Cluster Database as Target type and include the Tablespace metrics but not Email are sent. (Email notification is on and all level Critical, warning, clear and also all correctives actions states.)
if somebody have an idea on this subject ?
Our notification are based on the Grid control but apparently we are not able to be notified for the tablespace usage of cluster database and also for databases not in a cluster.

If they are on autoextend you will not get an alert because Oracle will extend.
Turn off autoextend on a tablespace and adjust your threshold and time to test alert.
You will get a email alert. To clear set back to autoextend.
