Migrate Windows XP to Windows 7 in secondary site using sccm 2007

Hi all,
I have migrated Windows XP to Windows 7 using SCCM 2007 R3 SP2 in the primary site and a DHCP server is available. Now I need to do the same exercise to an XP machine in a secondary site but there is no DHCP server, all machines are configured with static
IPs. Do I need to install temporary DHCP server there or I have other options?

As mentioned, to my knowledge, there's nothing built in to handle this. You can try using the capture tasks as I mentioned but I don't think that they will preserve the IP all the way into the deployed Windows instance. For this, you will have to build
some type of custom solution.A quick search of the web should turn up results:

  • Windows 7 deployment using SCCM 2007 SP2

    Hi,
We planning to do Windows 7 deployment using SCCM 2007 SP2 so we have some queries regarding same.
Is it possible to take entire HDD backup & restore using SCCM 2007 SP2? Also is it recommended to do so?
What will be the effective method to deploy OS at remote branches?
If we want to save the network bandwidth then what will way to send image to distribution point and client as well.
Is it mandatory to have PXE boot enable in bios & set as first boot preference on each client machine for PXE initiated windows 7 deployment? If so then is there any option to enable PXE boot & set as first preference on client machine
    remotely?
Is it possible to deploy OS in other than C drive i.e D or E to have dual boot option?
Which we will be best method to have zero touch deployment without any end user intervention and why?
    Please help to clarify.

As Jason said, these are the configurations that requires some high level skills to configure it, the answers are the same as said by Arnav... below links would give you a good heads up for the OSD in SCCM if you still want to try it on your own...

  • Windows 8.1 Pro OS Deployment Using SCCM 2007 SP2 R3 - Possible? Supported?

I have been able to successfully capture and deploy a Windows 8.1 Pro image to a desktop, however the Apply Device Drivers action consistently fails with the following error in the smsts.log:
Driver-signing policy cannot be configured on this operating system
After that point no suitable drivers are able to be found and the task sequence is unable to proceed due to the lack of drivers. I'm using the same task sequence I used for Windows 8 OS deployment within SCCM 2007 SP2 R3. I'm just looking for confirmation
on whether or not driver deployment is now broken in Windows 8.1.

The toolset has been updated significantly to support Win 8.1. Exact technical details of the changes aren't published anywhere beyond the fact that it simply isn't supported.  It's insufficient simply because it is known not to work -- beyond that,
    does it really matter?
Note that even Win8 deployment within ConfigMgr is unsupported so basically you're off into uncharted territory and assuming a lot of risk in doing so.

  • Want to use SCCM 2007 to image thinkpad 10 with windows 7

    Hello,
    can someone tell me if
SCCM 2007 can be used to build the thinkpad 10 tablet and if it can
can I deploy a windows 7 x64 image to it and it I can
where are the drivers as I can only find windows 8 drivers.
I have build a Helix successfully in the past with windows 7 but I cannot get the thinkpad to work, what am I missing?????
    thanks
    Nazir

Perhaps this page from Microsoft will help understand which versions of SCCM can deploy which versions of OS:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2909893/en-us
As for the ThinkPad 10, I believe it only supports Windows 8.1 so there will be no Windows 7 SCCM driver pack for it.

  • SCCM 2012 Secondary Site Migration

we have to migrate more then 50 Secondary Site to SCCM 2012 Secondary Site. Since we have to low-bandwidth connection for the remote site we prefer to go with SCCM 2012 Secondary site inside of DP.
I know we can migrate SCCM 2007 Secondary to SCCM 2012 DP and SCCM 2007 DP to SCCM 2012 DP.
But is there a way i can move the distribution point package from SCCM 2007 Secondary to SCCM 2012 Secondary Site?
when i try to migrate migrate SCCM 2007 Secondary Site DP to SCCM Secondary Site 2012, it uninstall the 2007 Secondary site and upgrade the DP to SCCM 2012 under the 2012 Secondary site.
But my requirement is to move the old SCCM 2007 secondary site package to SCCM 2012 Secondary site DP, is there any tool to manage this activity?
or what is the best practice to do this migration.

    Hi,
You could use prestage content in SCCM 2012 to send packages to remote DP.

  • 2012 -- 2012 Migration: How to Reassign Distribution Points that Reside on Source Secondary Site Servers to the Target Site

Source hierarchy AAA is at 2012 R2 CU3 and contains a primary site and 14 secondary sites (A01 through A14). The 14 secondary site servers hold the following roles:
    Site system
    Management Point
    State migration point
    Site server
    Site database server
    Component server
    Distribution Point
Target hierarchy BBB is also at 2012 R2 CU3 and contains only a primary site.  The goal is to "downgrade" the severs at source secondary sites A01 through A14 to distribution points.
AAA was added as a source site.  Data gathering was done.  A migration job was created an run, and distribution points from the source hierarchy were shared to allow a phased migration of the clients.
We have reach the point where we are ready to reassign distribution points in sites A01 through A14 from AAA to BBB, but none of the shared distribution points are eligible for reassignment.  We surmise that since the DP role is not the only role on
these servers (as you can see from the bullet list above), they are ineligible for reassignment.  We are unable to remove most of the roles.  In fact, the only 2 roles that can be removed are the DP role itself, and the State Migration
Point. If we delete the secondary site, it removes ALL roles...not leaving any behind...including the one we need...DP.
    My question is 2-part:
Is our assumption correct?  Must a DP role be the only one on the server for a DP to be eligible for reassignment?
Is there any way we can reassign these DPs instead of deleting everything and building them from scratch?
These secondary site servers are in branch offices and host a lot of distributed packages.  It would be very inconvenient to have to rebuild the DPs from scratch and redistribute all those packages over the WAN.

Full Disclosure: I have never used this tool myself. I intend to, however the opportunity or time to do so has not yet arisen.
You could use the techniques outlined in CloneDP (https://gallery.technet.microsoft.com/scriptcenter/CloneDP-for-SCCM-2012-SP1-825ce5b1) to create prestage media on each DP and rebuild. That at least would prevent redistributing over the WAN
Ken provides a nice writeup too: http://blogs.technet.com/b/kensmith/archive/2013/08/01/migrating-the-content-library-between-distribution-points-in-sccm-2012-sp1.aspx

  • Uninstalling Secondary Site Server through SW Delivery fails

    We have migrated to SCCM2012
and now need to uninstall our
    SCCM 2007 Secondary Siteserver.
Since we have 300 Secondary Site Server
    in the Hirarchy, the uninstall
of the software must be distributed.
We have to create a task sequence,
in which the following steps are
    performed:
Put the server in the SCOM
    Maintenance Mode
    Stop SCCM services SMS_SITE_COMPONENT_MANAGER
    and SMS_EXECUTIVE
Uninstalling the Secondary Siteserver with the
    Command "{install path} \setup.exe /deinstall"
Cleanup of folders and files that are left
    Restarting the Server
Take server out of the SCOM
    Maintenance Mode
The uninstallation works well on all Windows Server 2008 R2 Server. But not on the Windows Server 2003. There we get errors "Failed to open key Software\Microsoft\SMS\47006C006F00620061006C005C007B00350031004100300031003600420036002D0046003000440045002D0034003700350032002D0042003900370043002D003500340045003600460033003800360041003900310032007D00\SMSTS"
and "MP name must be set in an environment variable" and "Fatal error is returned in execution of the action (Uninstall Secondary Site). The system cannot find the file specified. (Error: 80070002; Source: Windows)".
After this errors, the Task Sequence Deployment aborts.
Has anybody a solution for this situation?

    Hi,
When removing a secondary site using the Delete Secondary Site Wizard, you must choose whether to delete or uninstall the secondary
    site:
Deleting the site will delete all information about the site and its resources from the Configuration Manager site database at its
parent site, but it will leave the Configuration Manager secondary site installed on the secondary site computer. Select this option if you have already manually uninstalled the secondary site using Configuration Manager Setup at the secondary site computer.
When Configuration Manager 2007 sites are deleted, the deleted site information is only deleted from the deleted site's direct parent site. Site deletion
information is not propagated up the hierarchy to grandparent sites. In order to delete the site from the site database at sites above the deleted site's direct parent site, the hierarchy maintenance tool (Preinst.exe) must be run on every primary site above
the deleted site's parent primary site using the command Preinst /delsite. For more information about the hierarchy maintenance tool, see
    Hierarchy Maintenance Tool (Preinst.exe).
    Refer to:
How to Remove a Secondary Site Using the Configuration Manager Console

  • WSUS Server settings and Migrating SCCM 2007 Clients to SCCM 2012 R2

I am in the process of migrating a site from SCCM 2007 to SCCM 2012 R2.
Whilst doing this I came across the following issue:
The first issue is the workstations are woefully out of date, patch and update-wise, some have never had a patch applied as the branch IT staff are building them from the original disk. The policy is set in the SCCM 2007 client to point the machines at
the 2007 WSUS server, which is not set to deliver any updates to 2007 clients and hasn't been for a while. So as soon as the client is installed they lose the ability to get updates from Microsoft and don't get them from the 2007 WSUS server either.
Issue number 2 is the machines are a mixture of hand-built machines to SCCM 2007 delivered images, the SCCM image is patch using offline patching so they are somewhat up-to-date, but the hand-built machines are not and as there is no standardization on
the Microsoft Update client settings, the IT person on-site sets it to whatever he/she feels like, as it makes no difference once the client is installed and the policy applied.
So, when I come to update the client from 2007 to 2012, the following occurs
The Client uninstalls, and the GPO policy settings for Windows Update are removed.
Depending on the setup of the client initially, some machines are then going to Microsoft for their updates (literally 100s) and although the new client is installed the policy update does not fire to update the Windows Update Policy settings, sometimes
for hours after the install finishes. My thoughts are that it just can't run the policy as it is bogged down by patches updating and, in some cases, rebooting and then updating some more.
As a workaround I have had to go in an physically disable Microsoft Update on these machines, which stops the downloading and eventually allows the policy to apply, after which the machine then begins to receive patches from WSUS in a controlled method during
    maintenance windows.
I have tried a number of approaches, even setting the Global Group Policy for Windows Update, but the install still removes the keys and basically sets Windows updates back to whatever it was set before the policy was applied and stays that way until the
new client is installed and the Machine policy reapplied. This can be speeded up by initiating it on the client obviously, but that would mean going to each client or using right-click tools on each machine, which is not an option.
What I would like to know is if there is something I am missing from my methods or is it just that I have never been on a site with such out of date workstations built in such different ways.
    Any help would be appreciated.

First note that clients do *not* get updates from WSUS in ConfigMgr. The Windows Update Agent (WUA) must point to the WSUS integrated into ConfigMgr (by virtue of having the SUP installed on it) but this is only to make the update catalog/metadata available
to it. Approving updates in WSUS is unsupported for ConfigMgr.
What you've described above is all working as designed although these clients are falling into a gap between the 2007 and 2012 configuration and thus they are reaching out to Windows Update during this gap and installing updates. To prevent this, you
need to disable automatic updates via a domain group policy. This will prevent all automated WUA activity including installing updates from any source automatically. This will not interfere with ConfigMgr Software Updates in any way though.

  • MOF file migration from SCCM 2007 to SCCM 2012

    Hi,
I have an issue while migrating SCCM 2007 MOF (Configuration.mof) to SCCM 2012,Problem is...
In our infrastructure, We have integrated our custom inventory classes with the logon script. Now we are migrating to SCCM 2012.When i migrate the same Custom inventory classes to SCCM 2012,I can able to compile/migrate, However SCCM 2012 views are not in
    sync with SCCM 2007.
Example: If i use SCCM 2007 collection/Query in SCCM 2012 that uses these custom inventory classes, its thrown an error saying that objects in this query are not valid, because of this none of the collections/Queries that uses old inventory classes are not
    working.
I dont want to change anything in the logon script...
Can someone please help me on this. Thanks in advance..

  • SCCM 2007 Migration to SCCM 2012

    Hello,
I read http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/58ba35e5-d84e-4741-8089-624f5269a2ca/sccm-2012-design-consideration-advice?forum=configmanagergeneral&prof=required with the following notes:
Secondary vs. DP is a subjective call based on two factors: client count and available bandwidth. More clients and/or less bandwidths means secondary site, less clients and/or more bandwidth means DP. Both use a server OS so there's really no cost difference, just some added complexity for a secondary site. Without knowing the bandwidth, no way for me to be able to say one way or the other.
As for IBCM, correct, it's no a primary site server, it's simply a site system that typically hosts an MP, DP, and SUP. The App Catalog Website Point is also applicable.
Are you planning on managing legacy mobile devices or Mac OSX? If not, the Enrollment Proxy Point is not needed -- it's not applicable to IBCM anyway to my knowledge.
Also, the FSP must be on a separate site system so that clients can communicate with it via HTTP.
I have for now two sites:
    - 25,000 Desktops on one site
    - 1,500 Servers on the second site
in SCCM 2007 I had three sites: One Parent doing the reporting and two child sites handling the inventory, distribution, etc... (No SUP do far)
I have on each child sites 1 DP.
What should be changed for SCCM 2012?
What is "More Clients" or "Less Clients" ?
    "More Bandwidth" or "Less Bandwidth"?
    Thanks,
    Dom
System Center Operations Manager 2007 / System Center Configuration Manager 2007 R2 / Forefront Client Security / Forefront Identity Manager

    Hello Dom,
If you have Two Primary servers you may need to plan for a CAS (Central administration site), in SCCM 2012 when you have more than one primary server you need a CAS to connect them. But remember the CAS does not
process any client data, DPs nor MPs (hardware nor software inventory), and bear in mind that a primary stand-alone can support up to 100,000 clients, and in SCCM 2012 the big idea is to simplify the hierarchy. So if you have a primary site you can manage
a lot of clients, and you can separate them in your case in boundaries, boundaries in 2012 do two things: Site assignment and content lookup, but they only work with boundary groups, in which you set the limits in the boundary, and latter associate it with
    a boundary group.
You can then just have a primary server and remote DPs, and decide how the clients will look for content in the DPs with the boundaries and boundary groups. The bandwidth needs to be really important about sending
packages between sites, or if the boundaries are not configured properly the clients can end up looking for content where it should not.  Also don’t forget about fallback packages and content, because DPs and packages can be set as fallback, so if clients
cannot find in a local DP they will search those packages.
Below a few references that may help you with your migration.
Any more questions, please let me know.

  • SCCM 2012 R2 Secondary site server will support the DMZ Zone?

We are planning for SCCM 2012 Migration, currently we have separate Primary server in DMZ.
Kindly suggest what is the best method to deploy in the DMZ (separate primary or secondary or DP) because we have only 500 Client in DMZ.

    Hi,
There is a blog talking about this error. You could try the method in the blog.
To summarise, when installing SCCM 2012 SP1 secondary site on a pre-configured SQL 2012 instance regardless which SQL edition is being used, “NT AUTHORITY\SYSTEM” account needs to be given
securityadmin and sysadmin rights. If SQL Express is used, there are few additional steps need to be carried out to configure the SQL TCP connection as documented in my previous blog:

  • My SCCM 2007 Secondary Site Servers have multiple "SMS_SiteSystemToSiteServerConnection_ SiteCode " and "SMS_SiteToSiteConnection_ SiteCode " local groups

My organization is going through a SCCM 2012 migration and I was asked about our current SCCM 2007 Secondary Sites and when I remoted into my secondary site servers I saw that two of the three servers have multiple "SMS_SiteSystemToSiteServerConnection_<SiteCode>"
    and "SMS_SiteToSiteConnection_<SiteCode>" local groups.
This just seemed quite odd and I wanted to know if anyone has dealt with this before.
    Thank you

    Thanks for your reply Eswar.
    One of the SMS_SiteToSiteConnection_<SiteCode>
groups on two of my Secondary Site servers I believe are configured correctly and they both have my Primary Site Server as a member, but the
SMS_SiteSystemToSiteServerConnection_<SiteCode> group is empty. Is the
SMS_SiteSystemToSiteServerConnection_<SiteCode> group supposed to contain my Primary Site server as well? Both the SMS_SiteSystemToSiteServerConnection_<SiteCode>
    and the
SMS_SiteToSiteConnection_<SiteCode> groups on my Primary Site Server have my Secondary Site Servers as members.
    Is this correct?
I'm wondering now if the strange groups with the odd site codes that don't even exist were created when the secondary sites were initially being created a while back. From the documentation, it looks like the former admin initially configured the secondary
sites using a PowerShell script created by Kaido Jarvemets. According to some of the notes I have read, the admin kept uninstalling and re-installing the sites when they were not showing up in the SCCM 2007 Admin console, but apparently they simply forgot
to configure a Sender and an Address, if that makes any sense to you.
So, perhaps these groups ending with an odd Secondary Site code may have been a typo during one of the installation attempts? If this is the case, can these groups be deleted?
One thing I forgot to mention was that the Secondary Site servers belong to a Global Security AD group and that group is used to add them to both the SMS_SiteSystemToSiteServerConnection_<SiteCode
    and the SMS_SiteToSiteConnection_<SiteCode>
groups on the Primary Site server.
    Is this allowed?
    Thanks

  • Prerequiste checker for Secondary site 2012 Sp1

    Hello All,
We want to install SCCM 2012 SP1 Secondary site from SCCM Primary console.
We found out that we can run PreRequiste checker command from primary site server like below:
    ◦prereqchk.exe /SEC /Ssbport 4022 /SourceDir <Source Folder Path>
    I have 3 questions
    1) Can anyone tell what is /SourceDir in this command?<source Folder="" Path=""></source>
    2) Also if we have install Secondary from primary console where will the script file be created (configmgrautosave.ini) so that we can automate other secondary sites installation
    3) If we install SQL express 2012 CU2 manually on secondary server, can we installed named instance for it?
    Appreciate any help in advance!!!

Since no one has answer this post, I recommend opening  a support case with CSS as they can work with you to solve this problem.

I can migrate sccm clients from sccm 2007 to sccm 2012 using sccm 2007 package with sccm 2012 client?

Thanks for help me Peter and Torsten but this documentation says:
"You cannot upgrade Configuration Manager 2007 clients to System Center 2012 Configuration Manager by using this method.
In this scenario, use automatic client upgrade, which automatically creates and deploys a package that contains the latest version of the client."
