Migrating db to MSCS
I have an existing Windows/MS SQL install, and would like to migrate the db to a cluster. Is it possible to bring my db node into a cluster without doing a new install, or do I have to do a new cluster db install + a database import from backup or export?
would be better to look for installation guides -

clustering routine is described in details there

Conectivity between existent SAP Systems and migrated system to MSCS Cluste
Hi
I have an existing SAP NW PI 7.0 (Abap + Java on Windows 2003 - SQLServer 2005) and plan to migrate to a cluster with new hardware (MSCS).
I have to prepare for the installation by creating a homogeneous copy of the database but I'm a little bit confused.
-Can I use backup/restore method or only can use import/export with R3load tools? The target system is windows and sql server same versions.
-If I can use backup/restore... what is the rigth sequence to the installation? Can I use sapinst with mixed high availability options and System copy options?
-I need to use in the target system the same hostname and IP address of the actual system, so in the Follow-Up Activities we do not change the configuration between the actual system (SAP NW PI) and other existent systems in the landscape... but I do not know what is the location in the cluster to this hostname and IP:
*The central instance will be in the local disks in the node 1. Is the node 1 the rigth option to use the hostname and IP of the actual system?
*The SAP Cluster group has a virtual hostname and IP, it has message and enqueu services. Is the sap cluster group he rigth option to use the hostname and IP of the actual system?
How is the communication between the other systemas and the new clustered system?
Thanks for your helpCan I use backup/restore method or only can use import/export with R3load tools? The target system is windows and sql server same versions.
You should follow the SAP guidlines in performing a homogeneous system copy.
I need to use in the target system the same hostname and IP address of the actual system, so in the Follow-Up Activities we do not change the configuration between the actual system (SAP NW PI) and other existent systems in the landscape... but I do not know what is the location in the cluster to this hostname and IP
This is not possible. If you follow the SAP instructions for installing NW 7.0 in MSCS you will create two cluster groups: DBGroup and SAPGroup. You will therefore have two virtual IP addresses, one for SAP cluster group and one for DB cluster group. If you retain the current IP address/hostname for the virtual SAPGroup, you will need to follow the SAP guidelines for performing a SAP system copy to find where to change the database hostname/IP addresses to point to your new DBGroup.
The central instance will be in the local disks in the node 1. Is the node 1 the rigth option to use the hostname and IP of the actual system?
If you are meaning the ASCS then this should be installed on the disks that are part of the SAPGroup in the cluster.
If you mean the dialog instance (or the Central Instance of a Java stack) then this can be on a local disk for node 1, and not in the cluster.
The SAP Cluster group has a virtual hostname and IP, it has message and enqueu services. Is the sap cluster group he rigth option to use the hostname and IP of the actual system
Yes, this will be the message server host for ASCS. -
OS Migration from Windows 2003 cluster to Windows 2008 R2 MSCS
We want to go for windows 2008 R2 server ( 64-Bit) MSCS by migrating from windows 2003 Cluster ( 32- Bit) . We are running on ECC 6.0 and oracle 10.2.0.2 DB.
Is it possible ?
Is it traditional System copy if so how to migrate the cluster ?
Regards> 2. If the oracle version is 10.2.0.2 then does it will support Windows 2008 R2.
You need at least 10.2.0.4 (you need to install that version with a separate DVD, you can't install with the normal Oracle DVD (10.2.0.1). See
Note 1303262 - Oracle on Windows Server 2008
Be aware of the fact that the normal standard support for 10.2.x is ending at end of july (you'll have to pay an extra maintenance fee if you continue to run that version) - see
Note 1110995 - Extended maintenance for Oracle Version 10.2
So if you now do a system copy to new hardware with a new os anyway, I would upgrade to 11.2.

Hi
We are in the process of upgrading from 4.6C to 7.0 EHP1.
As part of this process we will be moving to new hardware.
It it possible to migrate onto the new hardware, upgrade the system and then create an MSCM cluster?
We do not want to do another system copy just to create the MSCS, is there another way?
Thanks for your help.

Hardware migration on MSCS environment
We are trying to migrate our Quality Assurance system(QAS) system which is on a MSCS environment to a new hardware. The SAP version is ECC 5.0 on a oracle 9.2 and Windows 2000 server. The size of the DB is approximately 800GB, and we cannot afford a downtime of more than 24 hours.
Hence "system copy" will not be possible as it would need a very long downtime.
We also plan to adopt the same strategy on our Production server.
Could somebody suggest the best possible option other than system copy that we could use to migrate our system to the new hardware with minimum downtime?Rock,
Are you sure about your estimates? I've taken 1.5TB systems via SAP export in 10 hours for a system copy method.
Another option is to build your QAS system as new (using all the same SID as your current QAS system) then use an offline/online backup to restore it. The same for your prod system - we did a migration where we took a backup one weekend, restored it on the new hardware the next week, then used the redo logs from the live production system to get it up to date - like a hot standby. When we made the cuttover, the whole process took about 30 minutes between taking the old prod system offline to bringing the new system online.
This, of course, will only really work well if you are not changing the SID, which it sounds like you are not.
The system copy via SAPINST is a better method if you are looking to adjust/change SIDs in the system.
Best of luck!

SAP R/3 4.7 SR1 Migration to MSCS cluster environment
Hi all,
We are planning to move our existing standalone server R/3 production server to cluster environment.
I have some queries regarding this migration
Our R/3 system is running on SAP R/3 4.7x1.10 SR1 on Windows 2003 and Oracle 9.2
1. Central Instance has to be installed in local disk or shared disk
2. Is it correct to R3load procedures to export data from old server and import during Database installation
3. Presently our server is running with kernel 640, but for the new installation kernel will be 620. So when can i upgrade kernel immediately after central instance installation or after CI and DB Instance installation.
Give me some inputs
Thanks & Regards
KTHi, the best place for your questions would have been the forum SAP on Windows.
However, here the answers.
1) CI must be on a shared disk
2) Right, if you don't change the database platform and its release you can also use backup/restore
3) Right. You can also perform the installation with the latest NW04 installation master -
E-Business Linux Post Migration Issues.
Hi All,
We have recently finished migration of one of our Release 12.1.1 instance from Solaris to linux 64 bit. We have been facing issues with the binaries not executing and relinking issues. FNDCPASS is not changing the password for oracle users or apps user. It says "concurrent request completed" and ends out. But doesn't change the password. I tried relinking the binaries using adadmin. but adrelink fails for BOM,WIP and FEM products. Following is the error that I get while relinking.

ABAP+Java - MSCS Configuration on Web AS 640
Hi
We are in the process of migrating our CRM 4.0 running Web AS 620 (ABAP+J2EE) to CRM 4.0 Web AS 640 (ABAP +J2EE) on Windows 64 bit Microsoft cluster with Oracle 10g.
I have gone thru lot of installation guides for ABAP + J2EE (640) and do not find the steps for adding J2EE Server (640) to the Cluster.
As per the various guides, I believe the following procedure is right:
1) Install CI (ABAP)
2) Install Database Instance
3) MSCS Node A Configuration
4) MSCS Node B Configuration
5) Select Java Add-in for ABAP - Oracle (SAPINST)
- SCS Installation
- Java Database Schema Installation
- Central Instance Finanlization
I am not sure about the Step 5, as I would have choosen Java System Finalization option under Java Add-in for ABAP (Oracle) in the Central System installation. If I choose Jaa System Finalization, the step 3 & 4 would be choosen after the Java System Finalisation.
Any thoughts on this would be highly appreciated.
Regards
ChanduHi
Just to update on my progress.
I noticed there are different options in SAPINST for 32 bit & 64 bit. If you adding Java add-on to ABAP on 32 bit, the said SAP note needs to be implemented as there is no "High Availability option" under Java Add-on for ABAP in 32 bit SAPINST.
However, in 64 bit there is a option for High Availability install under Java add-on for ABAP. So, I believe the steps suggested in the notes are automated in 64 bit.
I checked both the sapinst and noted the following:
32 bit:
NW04 - Java Add-in for ABAP
Oracle
- Central System
- Distributed System
64 bit:
NW04 - Java Add-in for ABAP
Oracle
- Central System
- Distributed System
- High Availability System
- SCS installation
- Java Database Schema installation
- Central Instance Finalisation
- Dialog Instance Finalisation
We are configuring cluster on 64 bit, so i believe the steps outlined in the notes are automated under 64 bit.
Please comment.

Relink failed when migrating EBS from Solaris to Linux
Hi,
I am migrating EBS 12.1.1 instance from Solaris 10 to Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server release 5.5.
Oracle version 11.1.0.7.0.
And binutils version is :
$ rpm -qa | grep binutils
binutils-2.17.50.0.6-14.el5
Using note when doing step 8 of 438086.1 note, Download and apply the customer-specific update with AutoPatch
There is plenty of space available in the partition and R+W access is given to os user.

SAP Installation in MSCS - SAP cannot be accessed via virtual host name
Hi Experts,
We have installed SAP NW 7.1 CE in MSCS for High Availabilty. Our primary application server is installed in a separate server. I can only access SAP via the hostname of the primary application server (i.e. http://<hostname of primary appserver>:5<instance#>00/nwa) and not via the virtual hostname of the MSCS cluster. Is there any configuration I have missed? I have followed all the preparation needed for HA installation.
Thanks.Hi Sameysha,
As already posted, you only has SCS in HA, the "normal" way will be that you has one CI and as many DI as you need and use a Web Dispatcher. If CI fails then WD will send the requests to remaining DI´s so you won´t loose service.
In MSCS if you install as per the guide, Instances are not HA because they are installed locally in each node, if you have two nodes then you install CI in Node A and DI in Node B, if Node A fails then SCS resources migrates to Node B, CI is out and you work with the DI installed in Node B.
To be able to use any of the Intances installed you need a Web Dispatcher that does the load balancing between the CI and DI´s, if CI fails then you get service from the DI´s.
Hope this clarifies this.

SAP NetWeaver 7.30 High-Availability installation without MSCS
Hi all,
Do we have any option to install SAP NetWeaver 7.30 High-Availability System on the third-party cluster solution, except for MS Cluster Service?
I tried to install the first cluster node without MSCS configuration, however, sapinst.exe checks whether we already set up MSCS on this node, then installer aborted.
I'd like to know the way to disable this checks. (Or, way to mimic the installer as if MSCS cluster configuration was done.)
If unavailable, I have to install MSCS first, and SAP NetWeaver, then also have to uninstall MSCS instead of out cluster software;
It seems to me no sense.
Best regards,Hi Peter,
Thanks for your quick response.
It is disappointed for me that HA Installation is tightly combined with MSCS.
Do we have a way to migrate from other installation scenario to High-Availability?
For example, once we install ASCS instance as distributed system, then migrate
it for High-Availability usage, leveraged by profile updates and so on?
I'm not sure how High-Availability installation is different from other installation
scenario except for installation path and hostname to be used for connection.

BE5k to BE6k Migration tar file fails
Hi we are upgrading from a CUCMBE5k to 6k (CUCM 9.1.2)
Our existing server is on an HP MSC server and we purchased the Cisco UCS C220 server. We are following the below guide which outlines creating the server then import/export the tar files from the old server into the new CUCM. Because this is on a new server I'm bring the new one up in parallel then i will cut over.
When I run the import it fails. Attached is the job schedular failier. The log files have some info however, how much do I need to manipulate this info, if I can. Has anyone run into this issue with the TAR files failing?
Thanks,
MikeThere is no migration path for CUCM off of a BE5k. You must build the new CUCM cluster from scratch. If you're patient, you can use BAT Import/Export to carry over most of the data; however, it'll require a lot of massaging in Excel as the columns will be different between the export from your older version and the import on 9.1(2). Note that you can carry CXN mailboxes over using COBRAS but you must be on CXN 7.x or newer.
If you have installed Cisco Unified Communications Manager Business Edition 5000 on an MCS-7828 server, and you decide that you need to migrate to separate Cisco Unified Communications Manager and Cisco Unity Connection environments for increased scalability and capacity, you can reuse that MCS-7828 server to run Cisco Unified Communications Manager in a MCS-7825 cluster. Although you can reuse the server, you must reenter your data on the server manually. You must also obtain another server to run Cisco Unity Connection.

Question about DB13 jobs under MSCS environment
Hi,
I have migrated my system to cluster hardware. It´s two nodes windows 2003 server R2 x64, with MSCS and Oracle 10g.
I need run DB13 operations, so I have installed the standalone gateway following note 657999. Gateway is running anda RFC works fine.
Now SAP group is running in node A and Oracle group is running in node B, and when I try to run a database check through DB13 job returns this log:
Job started
Step 001 started (program RSDBAJOB, variant &0000000000210, user ID CONSULTORAC)
No application server found on database host - rsh/Gateway will be used

Job finished
Error 1: BR0252E Function fopen() failed for 'J:oracleACPsapcheckceernjjz.chk' at location main-9
Brconnect is trying to write .chk file in SAPDATA_HOME directory and it can´t. When I execute the command at OS level in node A (where SAP group is running) I get same error, but when I execute same command in node B it run without problems.
Error 2: 'CONNECT /' ORA-12560: TNS:protocol adapter error
No listener.
SAP try to run commands on the node where SAP group is running, and it can´t works with Oracle group resources like listener or sapdata_home disk.
My question, is it possible execute DB13 actions whene each group is running in different nodes?
If is possible, how can I solve my problem?
Thanks in advance.
Pablo.Hello,
As stated in point 7 within Note 446172 :
7. In Windows, make sure that the USER environment variable for
SAPSERVICE<sid> contains <sid>ADM. This variable controls the user
under which the external command is started. See also Note 556232.

Anybody know of a free way to copy/migrate a physical RDM in VMware?
I truly wish I could. We have two Compellent arrays but we're not licensed for SAN replication, so I'm stuck trying to move several TBs of information without the benefit of the SAN helping me out. >:-(
I need to migrate a physical RDM in a MSCS cluster from one SAN to another SAN. VMDK isn't an option, as my MS cluster has two nodes on two different physical boxes. Is there an easy/cheap/free way to do this?
