Mismatched swatch values

We are using CS4. As part of our production process we are using a program called FlightCheck to preflight files. We just upgraded to a new version of this application and it is indicating that there are conflicting values in colors used in our documents. This usually means that a color specified in InDesign is different than a color in an eps file placed in the InDesign file. Upon checking the graphics it appears that the CMYK values of the colors are different in InDesign. We are using a set of swatches we created and saved out for all to share so everyone is using the same colors. When we load these swatches in Illustrator the CMYK numbers are correct, however when we load them into InDesign they are changed slightly. For instance a color defined as C=100, M=40, Y=20, K=0 in Illustrator appears in InDesign as C=100, M=39.9, Y=20.0001, K=0. I checked that our color settings are synchronized for the Creative Suite so why would this be happening? Has anyone seen this behavior before? Thanks in advance for any help.

They are not converting spot colors and the graphics don't have embedded
profiles. What's strange is the old version of FlightCheck didn't flag it,
but the new version does.
I'm like you, I'd like to know where it is coming from. I saved out the
swatches from Illustrator with just a blank document open and loaded them
into a blank InDesign file and the values changed just doing that. There
were no imported graphics involved. If I fixed the values in InDesign and
saved the swatches again, then imported them back into InDesign they were
fine. Strange...
Thanks!

Subject: Mismatched swatch values
This is going to be more a cosmetic problem in the application than a problem
on press. You won't be able to detect a difference of .1%, let alone .001%,
but it would be nice to know where it's coming from.
Are you converting spot colors? Do the imported files have embedded profiles,
and if so do they match the ID working space?

  • [JS][CS5] rounding decimals in swatch values

    Hello again,
    I recently made this script to round decimals in the swatch values if there were any. I'm pretty new to JS so this probably isn't the prettiest code so I was wondering if someone had a better way of doing it.  This works, but sometimes it takes a while and I'm pretty sure it is looking at the [paper], [black], and other swatches that can't be changed.  That is why I made it skip the errors during the script...
    function round(color) {
        try { color.space = ColorSpace.cmyk;
        var vals = color.colorValue;
        for (var j = vals.length - 1; j >= 0; j--) {
            vals[j] = Math.round(vals[j]);
        color.colorValue = vals;
    } catch (err) {}
    if (app.documents.length > 0) {
            var target = app.documents[0];
        } else {
            var target = app;
    var myColors = target.colors.everyItem().getElements();
    for (var j = myColors.length - 1; j >= 0; j--) {
        round(myColors[j]);
    alert("Swatches Rounded");
    Any help is appreciated.

    Same bug in ESTK 3 / CS4.
    The data browser definitely has a problem in displaying object properties whose name starts with a (recurring) digit. The issue is not related to property names that could contain a space character —which is not forbidden! Curiously, it seems that the bug only occurs with digits greater than 1.
    Compare:
    var obj = {
         "0a": null,
         "00b": null,
         "1a": null,
         "11b": null
    // The data browser properly displays all obj properties
    and:
    var obj = {
         "2a": null,
         "22b": null,
         "5a": null,
         "55b": null
    // The data browser only displays obj['5a'] and obj['5b']!
    Note that this is not an internal ExtendScript bug. In all cases the object is properly set, the for...in loop works fine and obj.__count__ returns the correct number of enumerable properties.
    Conclusion: ESTK sucks!

  • AUTOMATION: Changing Swatch Values

    Hello forum,
    I am wondering if there is a way, in Illustrator CS2, to
    automatically change the CMYK values of named (spot color) swatches in the palette of an open AI file (I am running under Windows OS).
    I would like to be able to choose from a predefined series of color schemes the color combination desired for the working file and have the CMYK value of the named spot color swatches changed to coincide with the selected combination (as opposed to manually selecting each swatch and entering the CMYK values).
    The predefined color schemes file would need to be able to be manually modified as well.
    I hope my description makes sense, hehe. Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Mason

    I've done it with AI 10 on Wondows OS. It should be true with CS2.

  • Pantone Swatch values vs. Pantone+ Color Bridge Coated Book values

    I'm working with a set of Pantone colors.
    Why don't the Pantone's CMYK/RGB values in Illustrator CC match the values given in the Pantone Plus Color Bridge Book?

    J,
    I understood from the other threads that the RGB value set was predetermined by the company, and not to be replaced by something from whomever (even Pantone).
    Apart from that, when you have the colour of a Pantone ink and need to substitute it by a CMYK and/or RGB value set, it will always be off in some way or another. And if you need to combine multiple substitute colours, they may very well be off in different ways with the conversions provided by Pantone, which means that they be more inferior to the Pantone inks than they need. Something similar may apply to cases with combinations of substituted Pantone ink colours and original CMYK/RGB colours.
    So at least in some cases there may be a better choice of CMYK/RGB values than a conversion provided by Pantone.
    In other words: who says that you agree, or should agree, with the (latest) conversion(s) provided by Pantone in each and every case?
    It may be worth noting that Pantone themselves have changed their mind about the best conversions more than once.

  • Export to PDF and print same swatch colour - different variation of colour on printouts

    I have multiple documents - they are all set up the same way.
    I have 2 or 3 swatches in each of them -namely Rubine Red is giving me an issue - this is the same swatch in every document!

    The Swatch

    Colour Settings
    Here are my Colour Settings - the exact same in every document - I have also used the "Convert Profiles" and made sure all are the exact same.

    Export to PDF
    When I export to PDF - the export looks great - and the coloured frames all look the exact same - and they give the exact same colour read outs in any profile I look at in the Preflight Manager
    The CMYK Reading is 4/99/20/0 in all boxes
    ====================
    The printed result

    Same colour settings
    Same swatch and same swatch values

    Same swatch values on output
    Only 1 file prints the correct colour throughout

    Test File
    Can anyone help me with this?
    The printer I am using is a XeroxColorQube using PS driver.
    Windows 7
    Adobe InDesign CS5.5
    Fully updated

    I've also exported the document to IDML - and I've unzipped that folder. I've read the information for the colour - there's only 1 reference to Rubine Red and that's giving the same percentages as the InDesign file.
    I don't know where the 2nd shade of pink is coming from.
    But I suspect that it's from the print driver itself.
    Also - just occured to me, I lost my PDF settings a while ago, InDesign crashed and the PDF defaults were missing - I dowloaded a copy of a set from someone on these forums through a google search.
    But I no longer have PDF x4 export option - where can I retrieve these.
    How can I restore the original PDF settings for InDesign?

  • Determining in and out Gamut values for RGB profiles

    Hi all,
    I am looking into how to check if a swatch value falls within my .icc profile gamut.
    If I have a color value for example L=74 a=12 b=-37 and I want to see if it falls within my .icc profile I can select Edit>Convert to Profile and choose my profile
    I then can select the swatch and see if there's a gamut warning there.
    With the above swatch if my color profile is "Photoshop 5 Default CMYK" I will get the warning, if I change the profile to "US Newsprint (SNAP 2007)" I won't get it.
    This works great for CMYK profile.
    My question is how to check if the color falls inside an RGB profile?
    I have tried changing the document intent to Web and Digital Publishing and changing the RGB profile but only changing the CMYK profile affects the out of gamut warning.
    Does any one know of a solution to this? The same issue would appear to be in photoshop.
    Thanks in advance.
    Trevor

    Timo,
    actually he wants to set the attribute mapping dynamic, reading the field to map the return value to from a custom property.
    1D10T,
    If this could be done then in the Def object of a view object (which means its not per user session but use). Investigate into the View Object Def object for the view object that defines the list of value (not the one that you use as the LOV list source)

  • Swatch panel question

    Is there a plugin or a way to print out the CMYK formulas I used in a file? I did an 80 page magazine for a client and am making myself a cheat sheet for future refrence. I would like to include the swatches as well. Just curious if anyone has heard of a way to just print the formulas out.
    Thanks,
    Jeff

    Here is a quick Javascript to list swatches and their values in the system they are defined in (CMYK, Lab, or RGB). It doesn't handle gradients or mixed inks -- should it?
    It pops up a dialog with selectable text which you can copy to any document you'd like.

  • Using Kuler + swatch exchange files in Dreamweaver CS3

    What is the "best practice" for taking a swatch exchange file from Kuler and getting either the swatches into Dreamweaver CS3 or the html color values.
    I like using Kuler to develop test color schemes for my web sites and switching css sheets to determine which colors I like best.
    Right now the method I use is save the Kuler thems as swatch excange files, load the swe file into my swatch palette in photoshop, get the html values with the eye dropper tool take those values and paste into my CSS file. Is there an easier way?
    Any help is much appreciated.
    Thanks

    Hi rocketboy,
    To get swatch values, an alternate to using the picker tool in the product is to directly use the website. You can ge the swatch values by selecting a theme in the browse view and then clicking on the make changes ot this theme button which will take you to the theme creation view with all the color values located at the bottom of the page under the corresponding swatch.

  • Deleting Unused Swatches

    Because I'm unable to invoke the "Select All Unused" menu item of the Swatches panel menu I'm trying to attack it programmatically.
    What I'm trying to determine is if it's sufficient to compare the Fill and Stroke Color of each Path Item (every path item of current document) or are there other items that should be examined to achieve the same results as the command in the Swatches panel menu? Page Items doesn't appear to contain a Fill Color property. I've got AppleScript code that appears to do the trick, but I'd like to get input so as to make sure I'm not missing something that my testing might not have uncovered.
    Thanks!

    Another method might be to remove the extra swatches from the startup files (or New Document Profiles as they are now known) So there are fewer unused swatches to deal with. • Variable losing its value

    Hi there,
    I have written an explicit cursor (procedure given below) and the issue I have is, when the cursor runs the sql statement
    (CURSOR csr_address is
    SELECT rtrn_id,
    entp_abn,prog_program_cd,
    sched_nbr,schd_version_yr,
    litm_line_item_nbr, revise_val_text
    FROM RETURN_LINE_ITEMS
    WHERE sched_nbr = '000'
    AND prog_program_cd = '01' AND litm_line_item_nbr in ('016','023')
    AND rtrn_id = v1_rtrn_id;)
    against a particular return id, it fetches 2 rows; one for line item 016 and the other one for line item 023 where in the litm_line_item_nbr for 016 is 016 and for litm_line_item_nbr for 023 is 023.
    Once that's done, (I have used a For loop cursor), it loops through as follows:
    FOR country_rec in csr_address LOOP
    v_line_item_16 := country_rec.litm_line_item_nbr;
    if v_line_item_16 = '016' then
    v_line_item_16 :='016'
    end if;
    v_line_item_23 := country_rec.litm_line_item_nbr;
    if v_line_item_23 = '023' then
    v_line_item_23 :='023'
    end if;
    -- v_temp_line_item_23:=v_line_item_23;
    v_revise_val_text_16 := country_rec.revise_val_text;
    v_revise_val_text_23 := country_rec.revise_val_text;
    END LOOP;
    When it loops for the 1st time, it does bring the value that I am looking for . Currently the value for "v_line_item_16 := country_rec.litm_line_item_nbr" is "016" and v_line_item_23 := country_rec.litm_line_item_nbr is "null". That's fine. Again it loops through for the 2nd time and then the value for v_line_item_16 := country_rec.litm_line_item_nbr becomes 023 (which is wrong and I wanted it to be blank) and then value for variable v_line_item_23 := country_rec.litm_line_item_nbr becomes 023.
    Due to the above mismatch of values, I am not able to retain the original value of v_line_item_16 which should be 016 and it turns itself into 023. Is there any way around it?
    Please help.

    Because you are doing it all wrong in your loop. I assume '016' and '023' to be constants.
    A better way would be to pivot your rows into columns. I am not sure what version you are using, but if is before 11g, then let's do it the old way.
    Your cursor should be:
    CURSOR csr_address is
    WITH sub_tmp AS (
    SELECT rtrn_id,
    entp_abn,prog_program_cd,
    sched_nbr,schd_version_yr,
    litm_line_item_nbr, revise_val_text
    FROM RETURN_LINE_ITEMS
    WHERE sched_nbr = '000'
    AND prog_program_cd = '01' AND litm_line_item_nbr in ('016','023')
    AND rtrn_id = v1_rtrn_id),
    qry_pivot AS (
    SELECT
    MAX((CASE
    WHEN litm_line_item_nbr = '016' THEN litm_line_item_nbr
    ESLE NULL
    END)) AS line_item_16,
    MAX((CASE
    WHEN litm_line_item_nbr = '023' THEN litm_line_item_nbr
    ESLE NULL
    END)) AS line_item_23,
    SELECT line_item_16, line_item_23
    FROM qry_pivot;
    Then from the cursor, no need to loop. You can FETCH columns line_item_16, line_item_23

  • Total value for Pending Sales order

    Hi All,
    Kindly tell where we can find the total value for the pending sales order. I think that there should be standard t-code for the same.
    Thanks & Regards
    Points will be rewarded

    Dear,
    One more problem has been highlighted of mismatch inthe values of Billing document and MC01 reporting.
    We have dispatched material for one customer for value Rs. 105000 and the same is shown as 20375 in the MC01 report. This is the First line item in the billing document.
    Kindly suggest the course of action or alternate solution.
    Thanks

  • Clipboard Preference: All information (Index Markers, Swatches, Styles, etc.)

    Where I work we paste text often from PDFs into InDesign. For the longest time, since CS2, we have had our InDesign's Paste Preferences set to "Text Only" instead of "All information (Index Markers, Swatches, Styles, etc.)"
    I am not sure why, but I think it was based on the fear of the unknown. Has anybody experiences any pitfalls with having "All information (Index Markers, Swatches, Styles, etc.)" checked?
    I notice it carries over RGB swatches, which is rather annoying because we don't want them. And this is what I don't understand…
    If I create an InDesign document and assign some copy a CMYK swatch, then export the PDF to X1-a, then open the PDF in Reader and paste this text into the same InDesign document, I will get a new RGB swatch that when switched/changed to CMYK has different C,M,Y,K values than the original CMYK swatch that I began with.
    Is there any way to retain the same swatch values through this process?

    You will notice that in the Text Properties for text selected in Acrobat it does not have a CMYK colour picker. It only has a RGB colour picker.
    That's why when you select text it copies it as RGB and not CMYK.
    The RGB is only for displaying onscreen, rest assure it does in fact keep the CMYK data safe, regardless of whether you include the profile or not in the PDF.
    It removes any swatches, any styles and anything else to make a basic "portable document format". Acrobat has no colour pallete for CMYK. So when you select the CMYK text in Acrobat, then Acrobat colour pallete itself converts those values to RGB. If you understand what I'm saying. So the CMYK data is still there, only Acrobat has no way for you to select that colour so it converts it to RGB in the Colour Pallete only.
    I'm not sure if I explained that very well?
    I usually leave on the option to retain all swatches, styles, etc. because I don't like having to apply bold, italic, swatch colours etc. to text. Hyperlinks come in as character styles and can be easily changed.
    I've not had any problems with it. There are times I do need to turn the option off - but that's why it's there, it's a preference, a choice, an option.

  • WCS Audit Mismatch

    Hi there
    we had some problems with audit mismatches on a WCS version 5.0.x; it always said that the apUserName, apPassword and apEnablePassword.
    Then we upgraded to WCS version 5.2.148 and WLC 5.2.193. The problems with the username and password mismatches was solved.
    But then a problem with the general switching template occured (see attachment). In the switching template we configured the lag as enabled, but when we apply the templates (via config groups) and do an "audit now" in the controllers menu, we get a mismatch.
    Did someone else ever had these phenomena or do we have some errors in the configuration?
    Also when I enable lag in the template, then the message (Enabling_LAG.gif) appears and says that the WLAN interfaces will be mapped to the management interface. But with the WLAN templates I override this setting - is this a problem or is this the right approach?
    Thanks in advance and best regards
    Dominic

    Hi lavramov
    now I deleted both controllers on the WCS and added them new, also the templates were discovered from scratch.
    I added them to a config group and applied them to the controllers, this works fine. When I do an Audit in the config group, there is a mismatch "Different values on controller", but when I do an audit under configure > controller > audit status, they are identical.
    I attached the logs, hope you can use them.
    Regards
    Dominic

  • Default Payment Terms on BP2BP B1i Scenario

    Hello Expert,
    I have designed Business partner to Business Partner scenario from One source to multiple company which is working fine on Live environment, Few BP entries are not posted due to following reason.
    Source company Payment terms are not present on target company, Is it something possible to check on B1if Atom XML to pass default Payment terms as per Target company in case it is not present.
    Please advise.
    Thanks,
    BG

    Hi,
    you could check on-the-fly e.g. via SQL call into the receiver company if the handed over payment term does not exist.
    There are multiple options to handle a payment term mismatch:
    use value mapping functionality to map different payment term codes.
    create the not existing payment term on-the-fly and be aware of the system internally given payment term id in order to map the values.
    built an error action to inform the administrator via email to add and check the payment terms manually.
    built a condition into your xslt mapping: If the handed over payment term is not existing in the receiver company, don't map the field to let DI API choose the default payment term.
    Best regards
    Bastian
