Missing progress bar

Since upgrading to 10.6.7 I no longer see the progress bar in the lower right part of the window when a page is loading. I can't seem to find a setting that will bring this back. I've always referred to this as a way of detecting if there is a slow down or other problem with my internet feed. Can anyone suggest a way of restoring this short of going backward to 10.6.6? Thanks in advance.

In addition to Thomas A Reed above,
you can view the status bar in Safari with keys ⌘ /
This will give you some sense with location and item count as well:
Hope this solves your problem.

    The page load progress bar that was on the lower right of the window is no longer there. After updating to the latest version of Firefox on my Mac there is no progress bar for the page load. I really miss this feature and can't seem to find a way to obtain it. The tab has a circular progress wheel but this is useless for determining a stuck or slow loading page.
    PLEASE NOTE: I am typing this in from a Windows based work computer but am asking about my Apple MacBook Pro that i use at home.

    Firefox 4 saves the previous session automatically, so there is no longer need for the dialog asking if you want to save the current session.<br />
    You can use "Firefox > History > Restore Previous Session" to get the previous session at any time.<br />
    There is also a "Restore Previous Session" button on the default <b>about:home</b> Home page.<br />
    Another possibility is to use:

  • Missing Print Progress Bar--bug or feature?

    Since upgrading to Acrobat 8 Professional (v. 8.1.2) on a Mac Intel Quad-core running OS X 10.5.1, there is no progress bar when printing. I only know that printing is done by hovering over the "stoplight" buttons and noticing when they become responsive again. (The window itself does not become active until I click in it.) It's as if there *is* a progress bar window somewhere, but it's not visible, and it's not giving up "front window" status when it's done.
    Has anyone else noticed this behavior? It's not affecting function, it's merely annoying. But with the radical redesign of the interface from Acrobat 7 to Acrobat 8, I can't tell if this is a bug or a feature. Any insight will be welcome.
    Thanks,
    David Reiffel

    I am new to this problem, having recently upgraded to Intel Macs from Acrobat Pro 7. There is another issue that seems to have been missed both in this thread and the other one referenced by David above. When the progress bar is on-screen, there is also a cancel button. So now you have the situation where Acrobat is unable to report how far through a print job it is and you are also disallowed from cancelling the job without resorting to a Force Quit... Now, that's the sort of usability I'd pay good money for! The problem doesn't occur using a PowerMac G5, so the functionality is there, it just doesn't translate to the Intel platform. Adobe Reader 9 also prints without a progress bar, so it looks like the problem is here to stay unless a fuss is made and this becomes a 'known issue'
    I've raised this as a case with Adobe customer care on 1 September but this hasn't been addressed as yet. I'll post any follow-up I get here.

  • Missing status bar or progress bar

    I just installed Yosemite and I am experiencing a strange problem. Whenever I perform a function that is not quick, like compressing a large folder or copying a large folder to another hard drive, I do NOT see any status or progress bar. Do I need to change something in my preferences or is this a glitch on older iMacs?
    Thanks!

    Neither of those normally do anything more than post a progress dialog. Are you sure it's not hidden behind an existing open window? Otherwise, the installation is defective. You should reinstall:
    Reinstall Lion, Mountain Lion, Mavericks or Yosemite without erasing drive
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
    Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Repair
    When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported then click on the Repair Permissions button. When the process is completed, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
    Reinstall Lion, Mountain Lion, Mavericks, or Yosemite
    OS X Yosemite- Reinstall OS X
    OS X Mavericks- Reinstall OS X
    OS X Mountain Lion- Reinstall OS X
    OS X Lion- Reinstall Mac OS X
         Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet
                     if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • Macbook Pro get grey progress bar and shuts down

    Hello All,
    I have a macbook pro and I faced this issue out of nowhere. After shutting down the system last time, when I started the system, I could hear the apple chime, apple logo appeared with grey progress bar below it. The bar will progress to 1/3 or so and it will disappear and after few seconds laptop will shut down. I tried few times but same things was happening again and again.
    After going through few support forums, I booted by pressing D to run the Apple hardware test. It wouldn't do anything at all. Apple hardware test was stuck at pass number: 1 with elapsed time of 7 seconds. All retry were the same as the first one.
    I rebooted the laptop and pressed command + R and entered in  recovery mode/recovery disk. I clicked on Disk utility and select Macintosh HDD and started disk verification. I got hundreds of errors/warning, saying Missing thread recode (id = XXXXXXX) and it suggested to repair the disk. I tried to repair the disk but after similar message, pop window appeared with message that disk cant be repaired. I exited out of it and went back to recovery menu.
    I selected Reinstall OS X Mountain Lion and went through steps and at the point where I have to select my HDD, there was just one option and I couldn't select it. It gave message that This HDD is locked. I can't start in safe mode, and can't reinstall OS X
    I believe this is because of my hard drive might have crashed. can anyone help?
    Thank you,

    It does sound like your having mechanical or other issues with your boot drive.
    If your machine is under AppleCare or warranty you can take it to them.
    If you can user service your machine, you can opt to try to see if a new drive will work and install it yourself, or have a local geek do it for you.

  • Help With Zen Vision:M 30G, lost alot of music, "rebuilding" progress bar doesnt fin

    I purchased my Zen Vision:M 30GB player about 5 months ago and its been great untill today I turned it on and it froze, so i hit the reset button.
    Heres the thingI reset it and that "Rebuilding" progress bar poped up like it has in the past when i hit reset?But this time the progress bar only got about? /6th of the way full, before the unit returned to its normal menu, and i went to look at my music and about 90% of it is gone! Ive done a restart in the past and the rebuilding progress bar would have to fill up all the way before it would go to the normal menu and i had no problems with it then, just today it started doing the thing where it would only go /6th the way. Heres the weird stuff,I went to look at the system information to look how much memory was left and based on the numbers, my 90% of missing music should still be on there somewhere. I tried connecting it to my computer and all the sudden now my computer decides to recognize it but The Creative Media Explorer will say its not connected, that is a first for me too?I tried doing that system recovery thing, where i did the scan disk but that did not help at all. Everytime i try to re-boot or re-start it does that thing where the "Rebuilding" progress bar only goes /6th of the way before it goes back to the normal menu, i think that has somthing to do with it. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated?Message Edited by Lowalkoroc on 03-7-20070:20 PM

    I was just about to post a topic about this. I had the same problem and after numerous efforts I decided to follow the "Format (All)" instructions [url="http://forums.creative.com/creativelabs/board/message?board.id=dap&message.id=5530#M5530">here[/url]. After a reformat, a reboot, and a reload of all my songs everything is working again. Thank the Lord and the Creative forums.

  • How to use a progress bar?

    Hello to everyone, i am trying to put a progressbar in my application, the progress bar i use is the one that appears in the Swing Component part of JBuilder, i have the next code:
    JProgressBar progBar=new JProgressBar();
    progBar.setMinimun(10);
    when i compile the code the next error occurs:
    incorrect method declaration; the return type is missing.
    I have looked at the Jbuilder help but the code i find is the same as mine, and in other samples too.

    show some more codes....it willl surely help...i just hope the error didn't originate from the minimum() method because it was misspelled...

    You should get your keyboard fixed. There's a lot of letters missing from what you type and it makes it very hard for other people to read. It looks extremely inelegant.
    Anyway, your JSP isn't in control of the download. (You shouldn't have all that Java code in a JSP either but that's a separate issue.) All it does is to send the data to the browser, which is in charge of the download. And in all the browsers I use, there's a box which tells you how far the download has proceeded. No real need for a progress bar, even if you could persuade the browser to make one. Which you can't.

  • Why is there no progress bar in the iTunes Miniplayer? PLEASE UPDATE THIS! (iTunes 11)

    The progress bar show in the iTunes Miniplayer in previous versions was extremely practical and useful instead of having the entire window open or flipping between spaces, especially when multitasking on one space. Please update this ASAP! I have no idea why or how this was avoided!

    What makes -- that is, made -- the iTunes MiniPlayer truly useful was having a tiny window that's always visible regardless of the application you're using, that allows you to see and control track progress and volume along with the other key useful info and controls.
    Having to open a secondary window -- one that takes up much more screen real estste and doesn't even stay on top, and forces you to click or hover to see the progress bar -- to find one of these missing functions defeats the whole point of the MiniPlayer, which is to be convenient, visible and quick.
    Apple, please fix this. Some of the new functions are pretty cool, but you inadvertently killed the MiniPlayer's key functionality in the process.
    Thanks!

  • Progress bar in CS5

    I have an progress bar object that stoped working in CS5, it worked well in CS4.
    If I alert the string (str) in set_info it updates the palette, it updates fine. So it seems that i have to update the window some how.
    this.progress.layout.layout(true); did not work.
    var Progress = {
      progress: null,
      show_panel: function() {
        this.progress = new Window(
          "palette { \
            progressInfo: StaticText { text: '', size: [400, 16] }, \
            subInfo: StaticText { text: '', size: [400, 16] }, \
            mainProgressBar: Progressbar { size: [400, 10] }, \
            subProgressBar: Progressbar { size: [400, 10] } \
          }", "Progress"
        this.progress.progressInfo.text = "Startar import...";
        this.progress.center();
        this.progress.show();
      set_info: function(str) {
        this.progress.progressInfo.text = str;
        this.progress.subInfo.text = '';

    I just found some time to do some serious testing. It had to be set of by a menu item to trigger it.
    So what this is is a menu item with a script menu action.
    Not that I start by removing all existing script menu actions, if you like to test my code.
    It triggers a function that makes a dialog and the word Start sets, it centers and is shown.
    Right after this I try changing the text to Test, then sleep for 3 seconds and then an alert.
    I would expect the text to be Test so fast that you wint see the 'Start' text at all, but it wont show until the alert.
    In my big script I open documents, add pages etc, but the progress bar doesn´t update until its all finished.
    I think this is a bug, or i´m missing something..?
    I tried the exact same script in CS4 and it worked, so it seems to be a new thing.
    #targetengine 'session' test_menu = app.menus.item('$ID/Main').submenus.add('Test'); app.scriptMenuActions.everyItem().remove(); app.menus.item('$ID/Main').submenus.item('Test').submenus.everyItem().remove(); var test_sub_menu = app.scriptMenuActions.add('Test'); test_sub_menu.eventListeners.add('onInvoke', function() {      var win = new Window(           "palette { \                info_line: StaticText { text: '', size: [400, 16] }, \                bar: Progressbar { size: [400, 10] } \           }",           "Progress"      );      win.info_line.text = "Start";      win.center();      win.show();      win.info_line.text = "Test";      $.sleep(3000);            alert('Test');            win.close();      }); test_menu.menuItems.add(test_sub_menu);

    I use RESTful ws to get the progress of the billing run, which is the loadProgressdata() method in the main.fx, and everything was working fine until we did the javafx sdk 1.2 update. With the update in place, I recompiled the project and found that "Resizable" in
    the "public class ProgressBar extends CustomNode, Resizable" was throwing an error when the project was recompiled. I made some changes(mainly adding variables for height and width) but now when the program runs, the backing rectangle appears along with the
    percentage of billing progress, but the progress part(2nd rectangle) does not appear with the glow effect. I have read about using "getPrefWidth()" and "getPrefHeight()" methods, but not really sure how I would use them. I can't make the public class ProgressBar extends CustomNode, Resizable abstract as I need to instantiate in the Main.fx.
    Can anyone shed some light on what might need to be done to get this running correctly again. I don't need anyone the give me the exact code, but just to point me in the correct direction.

    Can you post your code again between "{ code} ... {code }" tags ? Some symbols are missing if copy/pasted.
    That said, your preferred width and height, simply return the width and height of your component. What I discovered recently is using LayoutInfo on controls to set the preferred width and height. These are the dimensions the surrounding container (VBox, HBox, Flow, ....) will use to arrange size and position of the enclosed components. So maybe you won't need Resizable any more. Simply fill in the layoutInfo property.
