Missing topics in TOC and index

I am using Robohelp 6.
When using robohelp for Word with the primary output to html
help several topics do not show up in the TOC nor the index. They
appear correctly when I generate winhelp2000.
Is there some special setting I need to make? The other
topics seem to handled correctly and display correctly.
Thanks, Jim

Hi Jim
Your situation is reflective of the reason you may wish to
consider changing over to RoboHelp HTML for creating output that is
HTML based. As time goes on, more and more folks are shifting away
from that product in favor of RoboHelp HTML. As a result, we are
losing collective knowledge about how to coax it to work for the
HTML formats.

  • RoboHelp x5 TOC and index missing when the project is converted to RoboHelp 10

    As the title says, RoboHelp x5 TOC and index missing when the project is converted to RoboHelp 10. Any ideas for recovering or importing the x5 TOC and index?
    Before this is suggested, auto-create is not an option.

    Hi there
    Perhaps give this a try. From the Project Manager pod, right-click the Table of Contents area and choose "New Table of Contents". Give it a name and enable the "Copy existing Table of Contents" check box. Then click the Ellipsis icon on the far right side. See if you have a .HHC file in the folder. Odds are, you will. That will be the existing (missing) TOC.
    Hopefully that will work. If so, repeat the process for the index.
    I think when upgrading the project something goes wrong with naming.

  • RoboHelp 9 - problem with merged TOC and index

    Using RoboHelp v9.0.0.228 I have a master project which contains several merged TOCs and indexes for other CHMs. This has worked successfully for years, but has now stopped working in our translated CHMs. I have checked all the relevant settings and they appear to be correct. The English version still works correctly. Can you help please? Many thanks.

    OK, so my post was just a summary really!
    I have a main project with its own TOC, index and topics. I then have several other projects with their own TOCs, indexes and topics, and these are merged into the master TOC. In all these projects, we use the indexes to contain function ids for our software, so that when you press F1 in a software function, it invokes the correct Help topic in the CHM. The software is coded so that it goes to the main project first, and then looks in the merged index to find the link to the Help topic.
    In the individual sub projects, the TOCs and indexes are present and work correctly. Also, in the master project, the TOC and index works correctly in the original English version. However, even though the TOCs, indexes and topics are all present and correct in the translated versions (Russian, for example) the index in the master project does not contain the entries for the sub projects. The TOCs for the sub projects do, however, work correctly.

  • What output files contain TOC and Index contents?

    I would like to "fool" a webhelp system into believing it has
    only the topics produced with a conditional text tag. But I cannot
    find where the output content of the TOC and Index reside. I am not
    speaking of the source files (HHK and HHC).

    You have complete and utter control over what the TOC shows
    before you generate webhelp. Whatever is in the TOC view is what
    will display in WebHelp, unless you exclude a topic from the build.
    RH includes all untagged topics, and you cannot condition a
    build to omit them from the TOC, or, for that matter, from the
    WebHelp package. If you condition WebHelp to include some tags and
    to exclude others, RH will build the WebHelp TOC accordingly,
    including the untagged items.
    If you want to maintain, say, 100 entries in the RH source
    TOC, but to exclude references to 30 that don''t carry a particular
    flag, tag those 30 topics and exclude them from the conditional
    build..

  • Reading (and searching, use of TOC and index) Acrobat files offline

    OK - I have tried several things in effort to read PDFs offline.
    The 'tools' that allow me to access these files PDFReader Pro and GoDocs are incapable of doing searches, use TOC, and index.. It is basically a picture of a PDF. They also present it in the linear form where I need to actually scroll the 343 PAGES to get to the information I want to read mid-way into the document.
    Is there a realistic tool that actually properly presents PDF files offline and allows it to be used as it was intended? OOPS - correction Safari cant display this right either.... never mind ....
    Thanks

    I removed an erroneous statement that safari can properly display PDFs - it can't provide search, index/toc accesses. Bogus!

    On a possibly related note, see http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-13727_7-20004258-263.html?tag=mncol;txt for a way to ADD stuff to the TOC. I'm just passing this along, I haven't tried it.

  • Why is TOC and Index connected at the hip.

    Why do you have to have TOC and Index tabs together? Why can't you have one without the other?

    Hi
    You can hide tabs even after generating the Help file. You can have all three (TOC, Index and Search) or anyone or two of them as per your requirement. you just need to understand the internally javascript is running and you can make changes from the js files also. It it possible via editing the Whbar.js file from the project folder.
    Say, for example- if you want to have only Content (TOC) and Search, and no Index tab; follow the below steps.
    1. Edit the Whtbar.js file
    2. Go to function addButton
    3. Comment the code inside Else If (see below) and save the js file again.
    4. Open index.htm file again, you will not see index tab anymore.
    Same you can do for other tabs to hide them.
    else if(sType=="idx")
            var svTitle="Index";
            /* Comment this code
    sButton="<a title=\""+svTitle+"\" id=\"btnidx\" class=\"btnidx\" href=\"javascript:void(0);\" onclick=\"showIndex();return false;\">";
            if(!sI1)
                sI1=gsIIndex;
            if(!sI2)
                sI2=gsIIndexS;
            if(!sI4)
                sI4=gsIIndexS;
            goIdx=new button(sType,sTitle,nWidth,nHeight,sI1,sI2,sI3,sI4,sI5,sI6);
            gaObjBtns[nBtn]=goIdx;
            if(nStyle&BTN_TEXT)
                sText=goIdx.sText
            if(nStyle&BTN_IMG)
                sI=getImage(goIdx,svTitle);
            sButton+=genButton(sText,sI,nStyle);
            sButton+="</a>";

  • Missing Topics in TOC

    When I generate webhelp the TOC comes out fine. When I
    generate either a word or .pdf file the first two topics/books are
    missing. They are listed in the Chapter Layout. The headings are
    the same as the other topics that are printing in the TOC. Any
    suggestions?

    Just noodling here a little . . .
    1. Which heading style(s) are you using for topic titles? Are
    they consistently applied for all topics, looking at the html view?
    Are there any stray spaces or html code immediately before the
    <begin heading> tags?
    2. Are you generating print doc with the project's style
    mapping dot, or some other?
    3. Did you select "Maintain HTML heading levels"?
    In points 2 and 3, I don't know whether these settings (or
    which option) may be causing the problem; just suggesting that you
    change one at a time to test print output.

  • TOC and Index entries sometimes blank in WebHelp output

    I'm running RoboHelp 10, generating Help files using the WebHelp target.
    Sometimes, in the WebHelp output, clicking a Table of Contents or Index entry restults with a bank topic. This issue is resolved my either maximizing/minimizing the screen or by refreshing the browser.
    The issue does not happen consistently in the output. As well, it seems to only happen in Internet Explorer 10.
    Is there a work-around for this issue?

    Just installing the patches is not enough. Adobe release some smaller
    fixes for WebHelp on IE10/11 and Chrome. (4 in total) For an overview of
    all RH fixes, see

  • None of the links in my TOC or INDEX work. Cannot find file is the error message.

    The files are on a networked drive. Win7. FM 8. I've renamed files. Regenerated. Created a new book. Nothing works.
    I do have hyphens and underscores in the file names but no other special characters.
    Need help urgently.
    The error message is:
    Cannot find file named
      \SOL\Data\TechDocs\DRAFT\Shiva\OperatorManual\096-0461-001C-1.
                 fm.
                 Make sure that the file exists.
    Note that the TOC and INDEX are listed in the book w/o a path while the body chapter has the entire path (above) listed in the book view.
    Thanks

    IIRC, FM8 had an issue with a path having more than 5 (or 6?) sub-folders. Try bringing the files up a few levels or create a mapped network drive down to the lower levels.

  • Topic missing in Word TOC only, but OK in document

    Sorry for yet another print issue.. I know Peter Grainge's
    site and have also done some research but could not solve this
    problem. This applies to RH7.
    Certain topics are always missing in the TOC of the printed
    documentation. If I delete the TOC and generate it new, then the
    topic shows correctly. If I only update the TOC without deleting,
    then the Topic does not show. It is generated in the actual
    document correctly with all its content. I have tried deleting a
    topic in RoboHelp and creating it new but without effect. There is
    no pattern concerning the topics missing and the file/topic names
    are short with characters and numbers mixed, but no spaces or
    special characters.
    Cond. build tags are used in the project, but not applied to
    the concerned topics on content nor topic level. There is no
    special content in them, only plain text. No error message during
    output. I have tried wrapping them in books or placing them in
    various positions in the TOC, no luck.
    Do you have any idea what the problem could be?

    Welcome to the forum.
    1] "...the tool overlooks certain files."
    Online help and printed documentation generate in different
    ways. Online help includes all topics not excluded by a build
    expression. Printed documentation is the opposite. It only prints
    what you tell it to print in the print layout, and even then it
    will refuse if the topic is excluded by a build expression. For
    good reason the print layout can include an excluded topic
    (sometimes you generate the layout with the expression, sometimes
    without).
    If it says a file is missing and it really is not covered by
    the above, I'm struggling to see how. It suggests a corrupt CPD at
    first glance but if that was corrupt, the file would not show in
    Project Manager in the first place unless the file is missing and
    the corruption is causing it display regardless. Have you checked
    the file is there, using Windows Explorer? Somehow I don't think
    this is it. Is there no other clue in the Output view?
    2] Changes don't percolate through as not everyone wants
    that. Frustrating for those who do. Try Insert | Field | Title.
    That will at least keep your topics inline with any changes.
    3] The online TOC and print layout TOC are again deliberately
    not the same. Many people don't want them the same. First time you
    get the online TOC but then whatever you save in print layout
    sticks.
    If you always want them to be the same, simply click the Move
    All Left icon and then the Move All Right icon.
    If you use RH7 you can have multiple TOCs and you could have
    one designated for print.
    Bullets and numbering have always been a pain as you can see
    on my site but I think most of the blame is with Word. If you
    follow some Word forums, I have seen more than one guru with the
    opinion that bullets and numbering have not worked properly in Word
    since Word 2.
    Working with bullets and numbering the way I describe, which
    I accept is limiting, I never have to reformat my documents for
    that reason.

  • What is the difference between Topic Keywords and Index File Keywords?

    What is the difference between Topic Keywords and Index File Keywords? Any advantages to using one over the other? Do they appear differently in the generated index?
    RH9.0.2.271
    I'm using Webhelp

    Hi there
    When you create a RoboHelp project you end up with many different ancillary files that are used to store different bits of information. Many of these files bear the name you assigned to the project at the time you created it. The index file has the project name and it ends with a .HHK file extension. (HHK meaning HTML Help Keywords)
    Generally, unless you change RoboHelp's settings, you add keywords to this file and associate topics to the keywords via the Index pod. At the time you compile a CHM or generate other types of output, the file is consulted and the index is built.
    As I said earlier, the default is to add keywords to the Index file until you configure RoboHelp to add the keywords to the topics themselves. Once you change this, any keyword added will become a META tag in the topic code. If your keyword is BOFFO, the META tag would look like this:
    <meta name="MS-HKWD" content="BOFFO" />
    When the help is compiled or generated, the Index (.HHK) file is consulted as normal, but any topics containing keywords added in this manner are also added to the Index you end up with. From the appearance perspective, the end user woudn't know the difference or be able to tell. Heck, if all you ever did was interact with the Index pod, you, as an author wouldn't know either. Well, other than the fact that the icons appear differently.
    Operationally, keywords added to the topics themselves may hold an advantage in that if you were to import these topics into other projects, the Index keywords would already be present.
    Hopefully this helps... Rick

  • Topics missing from link view and topic references

    I am using RoboHelp X5 and have come across situations where
    I have a URL, and all of the topics that link to it do not display
    in link view, in the Show Topics References option, or in the
    External Topics report. I want to know if there is an easy way to
    correct this so I can see every topic that links to a particular
    URL.
    For example, I have a link to www.adobe.com that is
    referenced in the TOC and 5 different RoboHelp topics. After I
    initially set up all the links, all 5 topics show in link view from
    www.adobe.com. In topic references, the TOC also appears. Then a
    few days or weeks later, I try to view the links again, and some or
    all of them no longer appear. If I display the link in link view or
    right click and select Topic References, it may only show me the
    reference to the TOC. If I remove it from the TOC, it no longer
    appears as a URL at all. But it is still actually used in 5 topics.
    Also, if I know it is linked from topic A, I could go in and edit
    topic A and save. Then www.adobe.com will show up as a link in the
    URL list again, and topic A will appear again in link
    view/references. But I don't necessary know all of the topics that
    link to it, and if I am trying to remove it from the entire
    project, or change the URL, that becomes a problem.
    I hope this makes sense and if anyone can help, I would
    appreciate it!
    Chris

    Repair the broken links, create a zipped backup of the project, then delete the CPD file before reopening.

    Hi All,
    I use Solution Manager 7.01 with MS SQL Server 2008 DB.
    I want to monitor with DBACOCKPIT a MS SQL Server 2005 DataBase of a SAP BPC 5.1.
    I connected the DB but in DBACOCKPIT some functionality are greyed out.

    Is it possible to use this function?
    Please, help me!
    Regards,

    Hi,
    Gray color means that screen is disabled for any reason (authorization, SQL Server release, monitoring remote, etc).
    I believe, those items cannot be monitored unless these limitations are sorted out.
    Please refer to the Document "The SAP DBA Cockpit for Microsoft SQL Server" in SDN.
    You can get the status about the restriction in the bottom of dbacockpit screen.

    Hi Rakesh,
    First thing this is not an issue but an information that says that these indexes are not be created in the System.
    This option Indexes not created is an SAP table maintained from Dev to Prod just to indicate that these indexes cannot be created.
    That's the reason why u have a green mark beside them and this will make clear for you that this is not an issue.
    Hope it helps!!!!

  • DB02 = Missing Tables and Indexes = Unknown objects in ABAP Dictionary = DB views

    Hi SAP Gurus,
    on our SAP NetWeaver 7.x BW (based on AIX/Oracle) I find via transaction DB02 (path = Diagnostics => Missing Tables and Indexes) under "Unknown objects in ABAP Dictionary" under DB views a BW object /BI0/.....
    When I make a double click on the object, I am getting the popup window "Display not possible for this object":
    How can I identify the object and clarify with the BW application expert, if needed, how to resolve this object?
    I searched already via RSA1 for the object, but I wasn't able to find anything so far ...
    Thanks for your help and ideas.
    Best regards
    Carlos

    Hello Carlos
    The database view in question is a temporary database object created during a query execution.
    Please read this SAP note 449891 - Temporary database objects in BW 3.x to understand what that view is all about and impact if those views are removed.
    The SAP notes 449891 and 1139396 suggests to run the report SAP_DROP_TMPTABLES to drop these temporary objects. Whether the objects are still required or not is a question to be put across to the BW team. If the temporary objects are removed when they are used by a query, then the query will fail.
    Have a nice day
