Then there is a problem with your account. Its the same problem that I had to start with, because the name used to first register the dongle, did not match exactly the name on my BT online account.
The bundle transaction fails, and the amount is re-credited to your account in a few days.
I had to contact the BT Care Team, who put me in touch with the mobile billing people, and the problem was sorted by simple going through the dongle registration process again, and making sure that the name matches exactly, the one shown on your mobile broadband account on MY BT.
You have to use this link http://www.bt.com/mobsignup/
Making sure that the details are correct.
You may like to try doing that process again, it fixed my problem. Then I could add a bundle, and it showed up right away.
It seems to happen when people come to the end of their initial free bundle, which they get when they purchase the dongle.

    Hi,
Unfortunately this is not very simple BUT you can use PCMCIA and 32-bit Cardbus slot and buy something like this for your machine:

    Thanks,
Yes, I did that. They have uppgrades for the dongles, but just untill Mac Os 10.7. Their solution is to buy a new modem from them or getting one for free if I sign a contract for 24 months! So, i think from that side not very helpful.
It is just that I do not want to buy a new modem, when it works in quite recent computers and after having spent money in the new Mac.
But thank you for your reply!

  • USB mobile broadband dongle randomly disconnects

This is really driving me mad. I had to get a USB dongle for my net connection because I couldn't afford a wired net connection, and after spending hours on the phone trying to get the tech support people to tell me what details I could enter into NetworkManager so I could use it as they don't publish a non-proprietary-software guide on their site, I finally managed to get it to work.
Asides from the connection being crap (I live in a small country town so even ordinary mobile phones get < 3 bars), I've found that the device disconnects for no apparent reason, like it just shuts down. NetworkManager can't reboot it, unplugging it and plugging it in again doesn't fix it, and it seems the only solution is to reboot my computer (just like Windows huh). I've read somewhere that Huawei devices are supposed to be flipped to their modem state for them to work properly, but I'm not entirely sure how to do this, and don't really want to risk borking the device as it's the only net connection I've got for the time being.
Where should I look to find debug information from the device and how to stop it from disabling itself after several hours? And are the usb_modeswitch and similar programs safe, i.e. are they likely to work as expected without totally messing up the device?

I hope you have solved this problem by now but just in case here is my experience:-
I have had this problem with on 2 different linux and windows machines. In my case it turned out to be a mechanical problem.  The USB sockets are very unreliable and for some reason particularly so with USB mobile broadband dongles.  In the first case the machine had front usb ports.  When the dongle was plugged into the front ports the connection was very unreliable and when plugged directly to the motherboard ports at the rear there was no problem.
In the second case I was using a long usb cable as the signal strength at the PC was too weak for broadband connection. In this case the connection to the usb socket at the end of the cable was very loose so the internet connection would dropout for no apparent reason and as with your experience I would have to reboot to get it going again. This was an expensive usb cable too, so price was no guide to reliability.

  • BT Mobile Broadband dongle needs reactivating?

    Hi guys -
I think my BT Mobile Broadband USB dongle may have been dormant for too long, I think I may need you to re-activate my SIM/phone number.
It's been at least six months since I used it last.
I get the following error message in the BT Connection manager: "31064 Failed to connect to an operator".
I've also just added £10 data bundle, so I'm in credit...it's not showing as active on the a/c yet, but it shows up as billed.
I have the latest connection manager, which I assume include the latest drivers for the device (MF636). I've also got the right PIN number (set previously).
    Any ideas?

  • Which mobile broadband dongle can I use for my PowerBook G4 running with OSX 10.5.8 please?

I was given an O2 dongle E173 as a gift but cannot use it as the specification is for an Intel Processor which of course the PowerBook G4 does not have!
    Which dongle can  I use?

    Hi,
If a USB mobile broadband modem for some reason cannot be used with a certain computer, a good alternative can be a mobile broadband hotspot. This is a device (with a SIM card) that works like a mobile broadband modem, and is capable of establishing a wireless base station. The wireless connection between the computer and the hotspot is normal Wi-Fi. If the computer can handle Wi-Fi, there is no need for any additional software/driver installation. Below is merely one example.

  • Orange Huawei E160E Mobile Broadband Dongle - NOT WORKING NOW!

Well as you can see from the title - i've just upgraded to Snow Leopard over the weekend - and love the 16GB of harddrive space I got back, however I came you use my Orange Huawei E160E Mobile Broadband USB Modem 'Dongle' and it doesn't work.
25 mins on the phone to Orange Tech Support, and they tell me 'sorry we can't do anymore' & 'thats what you get for being on the cutting edge of technology'!!!
Apple Care told me to install Rosetta - and still NO good!
    Any ideas?

    Hi
Thanks for the advice above. Initially cleaned off original app
I removed the software application from Mac HD/Applications/Orange Mobile Partner
The kernel extension located at Mac HD/System/Library/Extensions/HuaweiDataCardDriver.kext
The modem script located at Mac HD/Library/Modem Scripts/HUAWEI Mobile Connect – 3G Modem
Then dragged the Orange MobilePartner file to the HD, selected 'Show Package Contents' and followed the advice above opening the .mpkg.
Was about to try and return the dongle, but now after several tests, am sure it works

  • Virgin mobile broadband dongle on Lion no longer working

I uploaded OS lion last week and since then my broadband dongle has not worked. Calls to Virgin mobile have proven fruitless and they never seem to pick up the calls and I can't seem to find any threads online about people with similar problems. The dongle still functions on a windows pc that I have from work. The dongle worked well on Snow Leopard.
    Any ideas?

I spnt some considerable time on the phone yesterday to both Virgin and Apple trying to resolve this problem.  The guy from Virgin (who, try as I may, I found all but impossible to understand) gave up after 5 minutes when he realised (and I said it at least 5 times) that I was using Macs. not PCs, so his advice to go to Control Panel was wasted.  he put me through to someone else who I cojld understand but who flatly blamed Apple.
Apple's response was fast and very efficient.  Since the dongle works on a PC (which it does) and works on a pre-Lion Mac (which it does), the problem is with the Virgin softeare which is not compatible.  The guy from apple pointed out that it is not Apple's responsibility to solve the problems of other hardware provides (all of whom were advised about Lion before it was released).
Virgin, in this as in so many other things, are a waste of time.  I am now arranging for the dongle to be unlocked so that I can use it with Three data cards (which do work with Lion).  I will be suspending my Virgin account until they resolve the issue.  I will not hold my breath.

  • Problem connecting Huawei E303 Mobile Broadband Dongle to MBP 2012

I have just purchased the Huawei E303 USB Stick for my mobile broadband from Singapore's StarHub. According to the instruction sheet, the laptop should detect the USB automatically and the mobile broadband should install itself automatically. My MBP 2012 does not detect the USB drive so I can't install the mobile broadband. My MBP run Mountain Lion 10.8.2. Does anyone have the same problem? Do you think it's the problem with Huawei or Apple? I have seen many forum posts on this issue but no one seems to offer definite solutions.

Just my personal experience : I just installed a E303 on my MacBookPro Retina 15" running 10.8.2.
All went smoothly (took a bit of time) for the first time.
I unplugged the modem and pluged it back a few minutes later, and the modem doesn't show anymore, and is not recognized by the previously installed software. LED status show booting.
Then I tried on a recent macbook Air 13", 10.8.2 as well. modem is not seen either.

  • Get UK O2 USB mobile broadband dongle to work on Snow Leopard here:ther

Mobile Connect won't work on Snow Leopard, as you'll have discovered if you're looking here.
    1. Insert the modem into a USB port.
    2. Open the virtual CD image it makes
    3. Control click (right click) the MobileConnect application
    4. Select Show Package Contents
    5. Open the Contents, then the Resources folders
    6. Double click MobileConnect_DrvApp.pkg to run it. use this to install.
    7. Double click MobileConnect_DrvApp.pkg to run it *AGAIN*
    8. Open System Preferences and select the Network pane.
    9. Click the + at the bottom left, unless HUAWEI mobile is already in the list. If not, slect it as the interface after pressing +.
    10. Select HUAWEI mobile in the list. Set telephone number to *99# , account to o2bb and password to password
    11. Click advanced (bottom right)
    12. Set vendor to Other and model to HUAWEI mobile. Click OK.
    Click connect and surf.
I am sure that the basic principles will work for any other provider using HUAWEI USB 3G modems.
I hope that helps. If I got something wrong, let me know!

  • Mobile Broadband and Apple TV

    Hello
I am looking at purchasing Apple TV but wondered if it would work with Mobile Broadband?
Just wanted to find this out before I make the purchase.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    Depends what you mean.
Any internet connection should work - wired or wireless.
However, AppleTv will not accept standard USB Mobile Broadband dongles.
If you had a computer nearby you could potentially share it's mobile broadband internet connection over ethernet or wi-fi to AppleTV.
If you had some form of mi-fi device with a small wireless/wired router running from a 3G SIM you'd probably be ok, but mobile broadband might be too slow for good performance and unless you had extremely cheap data plans could be very costly.
For example HD movies may be several GB in size, so you'd need to factor the mobile bb cost into the rental price.
If your mobile bb device gave say a sustained 1-2 Mbps, then it might take several hours to download enough of a film to start watching without interruption - it would work but you might be better off letting it all download overnight for example before watching the next evening.
It really depends on exactly what you're considering.
Also, beware of quoted mobile bb speeds which are theoretical and rarely achieved in practice.

  • Vodafone Mobile Broadband Line Dropping

Just bought a Vodafone mobile dongle which keeps dropping the line in about 4 minutes. Full story below + log record.
Vodafone Spain support not helpful, any advice greatfully appreciated.
    Story:
I have just bought a PAYG Vodafone K3772-Z mobile broadband dongle in Estepona in Spain and have had problems in getting it to work without it always dropping the connection.
The connection drops after 4:12 and 4:26 minutes, irrespective of the data throughput, in other words is does not seem to be a data limit problem. It drops the line and reports "Searching for network…" "Not connected" and the signal bars and Connect button are greyed. It never finds a network and I have to exit and re-open the Vodafone app.
The dongle is running Firmware BD_K3772V3.0
My laptop is a MacBook Pro 6.2 running OS10.8.1 with Vodafone Mobile Broadband 4.09.01.00
The network shows signal is strong with all 4 or 5 bars "full"   I also have a Vodafone Blackberry which also shows a strong signal.  I also have an O2 UK broadband dongle which works perfectly.
I get the same results if
I plug the dongle in to either of the two USB ports, if
I use an short USB extender cable in either of the two USB ports, and if
I set it to prefer 3G or GPRS

    Just bought a Thinkpad x121e model 3051XG - AMD E-450/ 320HD/ 4G/ Win 7 64bit.
I'm trying to install mobile broadband but no luck.
I'm going crazy and spinning around in installation loops.
I get this message no matter what:
    NO DEVICE DETECTED
I'm using a valid sim card from an 02 3G mobile broadband dongle (Sierra Compass 885) which I've used in all my previous laptops (Win7 and OSX) with no issues.
    Here is what I've done:
Installed the latest Sierra 64bit modem driver
Installed the latest Sierra 3G Watcher software
Configured the firewall to make exception for software above
Inserted 02 SIM card in x121e card slot (behind the battery)
    Opened Thinkvantage Access Connections
Set up a new modem profile with O2 settings
When it asked for the dialer software I pointed to the 3G Watcher.exe
Then I selected the modem connection in Thinkvantage Access Connections; the dialer starts running but then I get the dreadful: "No Device Detected"
I've tried all sorts of variations and permutations of the above (including downloading drivers and software from Lenovo, O2 UK and Sierra) but nothing works...
Extremely frustated, I hoped I could get rid of dongle and take advantage of the x121e sim card slot but it seems I'm experiencing a Lenovo ThinkDISAdvantage.
Anyone experiencing similar issues? Any ideas? Thanks . MaxUK

Hi maxuk, and welcome to the Lenovo User Community!
Is that a 3051-5XG? That model doesn't have a mobile broadband card, but it is WWAN upgradeable i.e. you can add a Lenovo WWAN card. Did you add one? You can find the specs at support.lenovo.com or in the personal systems reference book http://www.lenovo.com/psref/pdf/tabook_WE.pdf.
Hope this helps, and come back and tell us what you find!
    I don't work for Lenovo. I'm a crazy volunteer!

  • Help re deciding BT Mobile BB Dongle with package ...

    Hi
I'm considering renewing contract with BT, which has the option of BT mobile broadband dongle, which would obviously allow me internet access from my laptop when out/about.  Unfortunately, the free BT FON network is only available if you are so very close to a subscribed BT router, so hasn't proved very useful to me.
I have heard lots of pros and cons re BT's mobile dongle.  My use would be 'occasional', using less than 1Gb/month so presume PAYG would suit me best.
I would appreciate hearing confirmation or otherwise as to how the BT mobile broadband dongle performs in general.  Also, are three any 'hidden' charges for this, other than the one-off payment for the dongle, and the cost quoted per minute.  Can I assume this PAYG quoted cost doesn't include the VAT???
    Thanks for any advice
    E

I've installed version 1.5.105.0 on 3 laptops.  It works fine on my Windows XP and Windows 8 PC's, but I get this same error (failed to create database folder) on Windows Vista.
    Andy.
