Mobileme/Push Email question

I was just wondering how push email typically works. I have many emails that I save in various folders on my computer, I wouldn't mind so much if it also pushed those emails to mobileme. However, if I get that email sent to my iphone I would want to archive it in a folder on my mac, but then delete it on my iphone. My limited understanding of mobileme/push email is that if I do something to a message on one device it automatically does it on the other devices. So if I delete a message in iphone it automatically deletes it on my computer and mobileme. Is there a way to bypass this for certain emails? I don't want any of my 8gb space to be used for much email because I will be using that space for music, some tv shows, and the many apps I want from the app store.

thank you so much for your quick answer. One last quick question. How does .Mac/mobile (the server) actually work with the apps on the Mac. I never subscribed to .Mac so I don't know if the server folders appear on the mail application in mac like the idisk appears as another disk drive. just want to know how user friendly its going to be to switch emails between folders.

  • Iphone mobileme push email

I have 2 Mobileme accounts. Both are setup on my Macbook Pro and my Iphone. However, in my Iphone only one of them allows for Push email. Both are paid for services and not trial accounts. Any workaround?

'Push-IMAP' isn't an Open Standard, so I'd avoid it. I'm not sure the iPhone supports Push-IMAP either (there where some rumours after the initial phone announcements that it would with Yahoo! mail).

  • I need help with MobileMe push email!

*I have an @sbcglobal.net email account and just got MobileMe* so all my stuff is synced with my iPhone 3G. I dont want to have to notify lots of people that I have changed my email address to an @me.com. Is there a way that I can make all the messages sent to my sbcglobal.net account automatically be in the me.com account so that they are pushed/synced? And when I check my mail on my iPhone will messages sent to the sbcglobal.net address already be in the me.com account or will I have to go on my Mac and receive those messages there? And I dont want duplicate messages (the same message in each account). *I want it to seem as if there is only one account (the MobileMe account because it is pushed/synced) that recieves messages sent to the sbcglobal.net address and the me.com address; also when I send a message I want it to show to others that it is from the sbcglobal.net address.* Is this possible? Any hope?

Nevermind, all I had to do was set a rule for anything that came in the sbc account to be moved to the mobileme account and it works perfect.

  • Push email on ipod touch 1st gen. firmware 2.1 fails !!!

    hi to all
I own an ipod touch 1st. gen. 8GB firmware 2.1 which fails in push email and a full featured mobileme (dotmac) account -
Since a while, email push fails, this never happend before i updated to firmware 2.1 !
Before ipod touch beeped in sleep mode when a email was pushed, now in 2 of 10 email it beeps sometimes, it only beeps when its not falling asleep
I wonder about that, does mobileme push email still work, or is it the firmware 2.1?
Can anybody help me please, searched the internet for days but did not find an correct help or answer for ipod touch 1st gen. push mail....
    Thanks a lot tobias

ok, what i 've found out meanwhile:
Since firmware update 2.1 wifi switches off, when ipod touch 1st gen. falls asleep, or is locked - so there is no working wifi connection for pushing email and of course no beep when a email arrives (in case no email arrives)
That's a superbad bug in 2.1, and i 've to point out that this bug did not exists in vers. 2.0 ! There is no official solution or update yet and I don't know if there will ever be one...
The only way to revive push email (and beeping), while sleep or lock mode is unofficial !!
    and a application called "insomnia"
The solution with insomina works fine and like pushing and beeping in firmware v 2.0 !
For using insomina, google cydia and quickpwn !

  • Will MobileMe push all email accounts including gmail?

I'm definitely excited about push email with the iPhone 2.0 but something that is not clear to me is whether MobileMe will push and sync all of my email accounts or only @me.com accounts.
So basically, if I sign up for MobileMe will my Gmail messages be pushed to my iPhone or will it have to do the regular 15 minute check for new mail?
I'm really hoping it pushes all my email accounts because without that I don't think I could justify paying for MobileMe.

The questions on mail and MobileMe are ones that I have, too. But another question/issue that I have is the inability for my iPhone to separate calendars for me. I have 2 work calendars and one personal calendar. Plus I have a family calendar. I would really like to be able to look at my calendars on the iPhone and see what I have for personal, family and business. I was able to do this with my old Blackberry.
When I looked at the video for MobileMe, it seemed to accomplish this on the computer (mac or pc) but I don't remember seeing the iPhone give good distinction between different calendars (i.e. syncing different calendars or separating them by colors).
    Any thoughts?

  • Why can't I push emails to 2 different MobileMe accounts on the iPhone?

Makes no sense since I can set up a Yahoo! Mail account as push alongside a single MobileMe account with push mail as well.
Every time I set it up, the second account only gives me an option for Fetch or Manual.

I have the same problem. Here's my setup:
    1) I have my own MobileMe account that I use for Mail, Contacts and Calendar syncing on my iPhone and Mac
    2) My wife uses my MobileMe account for Contacts and Calendars so we use the same calendars and contacts. We just signed her up for her own MobileMe (trial) account to use just for her own PUSH email.
On her iPhone calendars and contacts sync perfectly via push. When I added her own MobileMe account to use for mail it only gives her the option for either FETCH or MANUAL! This makes no sense whatsoever. I figured it might have something to do with having my MobileMe account associated with her iPhone as well, so I deleted that association but still no options but FETCH or MANUAL for her mail. Prior to getting her own MobileMe account, I her her set up with YahooMail for push email and she was given the option for PUSH.
All of this makes no sense and is highly frustrating! I wonder if there is a reason and a fix? Anyone?

  • Question about push email...

    Hi all,
i have a question regarding this push mail tech.
how the client will be able to receive a message from the server, without the need for client to check it by it self?
Is it true the only way to do that is to by keeping a connection between the server and the client opened? If it is, isn't that would be too much thread running on the server if there are a lot of client connected...
Or there is another way else???
    TiA

My understanding is that POP3 email accounts are checked by BIS every 15 minutes and any new emails are pushed to your device. This means a message can take anywhere from 0 - 15 minutes to get to you (average 8 minutes).
What you can do is create a new blackberry email, which is not a POP3 account and is capable of true push email. Any emails set to this address will be pushed instantly. Then you can set your other email accounts to forward to this address. You should then recevie the emails within a few seconds.
The problem is this makes replying from the correct address a bit of a hassle so I've just learnt to accept the 8 minute delay.
I'm still reletively new to Blackberry so please correct me if Im wrong.

  • Question about future of push email & syncing with Mac and PC on iPhone

I have two questions that I've tried to get answers from at two different Apple Stores, but I get many different answers - so I thought I'd give it a shot here.
    1) I understand that push email is coming in the 2.0 software release this summer - but will that only be for Microsoft Exchange customers? My small business uses DreamHost (a private mail server company) that runs postfix under Debian Linux and supports Courier IMAP...our IT guy told me this, I'm not sure what it all means - he's a PC guy...
    2) Can I sync my iPhone to my Entourage Mail & Contacts from my Mac AND sync my iTunes from my PC? Is this a bad idea?
    THANKS!

What happens when you try to sign in with the new account on your phone?  Any error message?

  • 2.0 and push email

I have a 1st gen iphone and I have gmail as my email on my iphone. I have been trying to keep up with updates about what 2.0 will be like and I have a question. Will you only be able to have "push email" if you have a MobileMe acct or will I be able to get push with my gmail?

Push email will only be offered from MobleMe, Exchange and Yahoo (presumably they won't turn it off). Google has not announced any push service for the iPhone.

  • IPhone 3G and Push Email Notifications

    Hello everyone.
Before I got my iphone, I used to own a blackberry, and push email was my main form of communication on it. I cannot begin to describe how amazing push email was on the blackberry - the moment an email was sent to my address my blackberry picked it up right away, I'd say within 10 seconds. Now, I have an iPhone 3G OS 3.1 with mobileme email set up to use push email. I don't know if i'm the only person experiencing this...but push notification my foot... sometimes I don't even get notified of emails until I open the mail app myself and do a manual check. I have mobile me on my iPhone set to push, I have push in the settings menu set to on... I don't know what else to do.
I'd be happy to hear of other peoples experiences with MobileMe push mail on the iPhone. My account expires in two weeks...maybe I'd be better switching to push mail with gmail? I might give that a try this evening.
    Regards
    Seb

Just playing for more hours! Push works lightning fast if you enter anything onto MobileMe, it syncs to Iphone in less than 20 secs, Mail email, contacts and calendar.
The problem is I am using with Entourage 2008 that supposed to sync with Ical and Address Book, this is either not working or coming through ad hoc or taking hours to Iphone, this is not push email like above.
MobileMe is fine as a standalone push system back to Iphone, but what about me using Entourage to manage all my mailboxes and data to iphone.

  • Will the iPhone 3G and/or 2.0 software give push email for all email?

..instead of just MobileMe? I'd really like consistent push email for my gmail and yahoo! email accounts similar to the blackberry. Will I be getting this? I don't have a mobileme account nor desire to pay $90 for it.

Then if you don't want to pay for it, you are not going to get it.
Push requires the provider of the email service to give Push abilities. MobileMe allows you to tie it (which has Push) into your other accounts (that don't).
BTW, Yahoo does do push already (has since day 1 with 1st gen iPhones).
Google may one day knowing them.

  • MobileMe Push schedule ?

    Hi,
Just recently got and iPhone and Mobileme.
Does mobileme have a push schedule? eg. Only push email from 7am to 10pm, otherwise manual. I don't want to be bothered by email while I'm sleeping.

So there you go: sign up with a provider that uses Exchange/Activsync and offers push mail and you are all set. Since MobileMe is not, and is not intended (which it quite clearly states in the Terms of Use) a business tool, and never has represented itself to be such, but is push mail and other services for the rest of us that don't need Exchange/Activsync, I think it does exactly what is intended at a very low price. And since it is a stripped down home version it would add layers of complexity to implement this and there would be a charge associated with it.
If you want a business service with your iPhone spend the money and move to a service that offers these things and is intended for business use. Or use your employers Exchange/Activsync server. The iPhone does offer a way to do what you want, you just don't want to use it.
Clearly MobileMe is not the proper product for you, sort of like running your 1000 employee business on Microsoft Works. Find one that is suitable for a business person such as yourself. And please come back and let us know what the monthly cost is.

  • Yaaa! No Push email in NY today I guess

Not Yaaa. Can't believe it. I was wondering why I wasn't getting email so far today. Opened Apple Mail on computer and got 15 emails.
Closed Mail Went to Google and sent myself a test email to my me.com email at 1:20pm. So far it's 1;32pm and still have not received it.
    iPhone 3G. 2.1.
Amazing Apple. How can they expect us to carry on business?
I guess if replies come in here I won't know about them.

Only have one email. An Apple MobileMe email on iPhone. MobileMe with Push email.
I still haven't gotten one email from this thread. Only my test email from 1:20pm that took 25 minutes to arrive on the iPhone.
No other emails. And with this thread having replies I know I have emails. I just don't have them.
I only have an iPhone, or cell phone. No landline. Been that way for 7 years. Yesterday the iPhone worked fine for email. So there must be issues today. It's just so frustrating that apple doesn't post status situations. I check the Apple feed.feed://www.apple.com/mobileme/status/mobileme.rss NOTHING. Pathetic.
