Modem detection

Have a 2800 router configuring Dialin with the NM-8AM Analog Modem Module. Have the remote modem (US Robotics Courier) conencted to the router but don't seem to seeing any PPP packets or LCAP. config below and debug ouput. Why is the modem hanging up?

  • Problem with 6120c Nokia Modem detection via Bluet...

    Hi!
There is a problem with Nokia 6120c bluetooth modem detection under Windows XP PS3. I used this phone as bluetooth modem for about a month without any problems (under Windows XP SP2). Than I’ve installed Service Pack 3 for my Win XP. About a week everything works great. A few days ago I’ve unplugged my USB Bluetooth 2.0 adapter and placed it to other USB port (on the same computer). After this operation my computer doesn’t find 6120c as a modem via bluetooth IN ANY USB PORT (Nokia Modem via Bluetooth shows as disconnected in the control panel). In the same time, Nokia file manager works normal through bluetooth connection. 6120c modem now works only via USB connection. I wonder, is this problem connected with SP3 or it is a Nokia 6120c firmware problem? I will be very grateful for your ideas concerning this problem.
    Sincerely, Andrey

Described above problem was fixed by OS reinstall. Bluetooth modem works fine for now (WinXP SP3).

  • Modem doesn't detect incoming calls

    Hi everybody,
I use an apple external usb modem for fax reception.
The modem detects the incoming call if coming from an internal call, but doesn't detect it if its an external call.
    The ring patterns are different:
internal call: DRON 100(1/100sec) DROFF 100
    external call:DRON 40 DROFF 100
It seems that the 0.4 sec DRON is not enough to trigger the ring.
Any idea on how to setup the modem to detect this type of ring?
    thank you

I just got the phone on Black Friday and I was receiving incoming calls why talking which displayed the other caller name but now It just comes up multiple calls. I call Sprint and all my features are working. I turned off the phone and turned it back on and nothing has reset this problem. I even went to the Sprint store and they talked about updates but they are all current, they could not help me. What next.

  • CONNECTING AE TO CABLE MODEM

    Hi.
I have an Arris cable modem connected to my MacBook and everything works fine but when I connect my AE everything seems go go wrong.
I have a static IP and I transfered the details to the AE via ethernet and then plugged the cable modem into the back (it is a 96.x.x.x).
I managed to get a green light on the AE and even connect the MacBook to the AE via wi-fi but I don't seem to be able to access the internet. Network preferences shows a new IP address now (10.x.x.x) but the Airport utility shows the AE has the 96.x.x.x still.
Should I be doing something else?
It works fine when I unplug the AE and plug the laptop back in...
    Thanks!

stevem98, Welcome to the discussion area!
Most cable modems will only talk to a single device until they are reset. Powering off most cable modems causes this reset to occur. When the modem is powered back up, the modem detects the new device and will talk to it.
The reset needs to happen every time the cable modem's Ethernet connection is switched from one device to another... like laptop to AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS).
Some cable modems have a button on the back for the reset.
Some cable modems have a small internal battery which must be removed for the reset to occur.
Some cable modems must be powered off overnight so that equipment back at the ISP can be reset.
Did you power off the cable modem when switching the connection?

  • Modem quit working-help!

I have a Powerbook G4 1.5Ghz, still under warranty. The modem stopped working. I called Apple, and they won't even talk to me unless I give them $49. I'm hoping someone here can help me diagnose the problem.
I only use the modem for faxing. Now it won't get any further than "Preparing Fax". I check the log files and I find when the computer starts up "Sep 14 15:52:11 localhost kernel[0]: AppleI2SModemFamily::SSIStartUp -- SSIStartUp3034 two sync mode is UNSUCCESSFUL after 20 tries!"
Apple Hardware test says "modem detected" and nothing more.
I've tried resetting PMU and PRAM. I've tried installing a clean system.
I tried opening zterm to see if the modem is responding at all, and Zterm says "### Error: 16 opening port"
I hope someone out there can help me out.

Recently had the same problem. You did much of the same things I did. AppleCare referred me to the Genius Bar at the Apple Store nearby. After about 45min of them doing tests, etc. they concluded that the modem was defective. My PowerBook was packed up and sent off for repair.
Don't know if this helps much.
    Steve D.

  • D-Link routers/modems may prevent machines going to sleep

Many people on these forums have reported problems with machines failing to sleep. Two of us who contribute to the MacUser forums in the UK have discovered that what we have in common is the use of D-Link routers/modems and that when these are disconnected the problem is resolved. One is using an eMac running Panther while I'm presently using a G4 Cube running Tiger. The D-Link equipment is different - one is a D-Link DSL-504T, while the other is a DSL-300T, but both are connected via the ethernet port.
Both of us went through the usual troubleshooting procedures, including deleting the Globalprefs and Power Management preferences. Both machines will sleep satisfactorily when manually set to sleep, but neither will sleep following the options set in System Preferences (whether or not the wake when modem detects a ring or wake for system administrator settings are ticked). Disconnecting the router/modem is the only thing that will allow the machines to fall asleep automatically.
D-Link's technical support has been unable to offer any assistance that might point to why this sleep issue occurs or what the solution might be. I don't know whether this problem occurs with any other modem/routers, but it certainly doesn't happen with the Netgear device I have connected to my home iMac.
While I can't offer a solution, I thought this information might be useful to others who are experiencing sleep issues.

  • Long time connecting to the USB modem

    Hello.
I have nokia 6220 classic and I'm using it as a 3G modem. Everything works fine, but when I'm connecting it it takes about 60 (!) seconds to detect modem by NetworkManager and be able to estabilish connection. A little bit of research showed that the main problem is that two times during modem recognition procedure serial port is being closed, which takes 30 seconds each:

How can I improve speed of modem detection?

    Hello, thanks for answering
    there is my simple cfg
    macpro has 192.168.19.2/28
    stockserver 192.168.19.3/28
I added to /etc/hosts the following
    192.168.19.2 lacalhost
    192.168.19.3 stockserver
when I did it - everything works fine & fast, but I can not add every computer to hosts, course some times I bring some new & it takes IP from DHCP, I think it is clear.
And about your last question -
It takes about 25 sec from i hit enter until it takes back to the shell prompt.
but when it done it display that traceroute done for less 1 sec!
Because traceroute is diagnostic tool, usually people don't use it to really work, the same delay happen when I try to connect to file share. It does not matter afp / smb / nfs / even ftp.
When first time I looked this I was try trace route for diagnostic porpoise - it delayed too.
So - now it is clear that it is dns/netbios/dejavue problem - but how I can fix it?!
    I have not any Idea.
Some Addition - I thougt when I try reach anything by IP it makes reverse lookup
Because I use ISP DNS there are not records to my local subnet
    lacalhost:~ alexpronin$ nslookup 192.168.19.3

  • Wake on modem ring iMac (2009 version)

I'm attempting to get my iMac to wake up from sleep when the modem detects a ring. Unfortunately all of the signs that I'm looking at are pointing to this feature NOT being available on my Mac.
I've looked at the pmset command (from terminal) and added the setting (sudo pmset -a ring 1). I verified that the setting is in the com.apple.PowerManagement.plist file. However when I do a pmset -g I don't see the option listed.
I then tried using some other software to see if I could get it to work (MacPilot) and again I don't see the ability to wake with the modem.
    Is this feature gone?

Does this mean that the only way to make this viable is if and Apple Modem (from Apple not a 3rd party) is plugged into the USB port?
I know the computer recognized the modem I have. I can see it not only in the system prefs, but also in the network section.
    Thanks for helping,
    Michel

  • Powerbook waking up randomly

Every once in a while my Powerbook will suddenly awaken from sleep (with the lid closed). After a few seconds it goes back to sleep again. Sometimes it will do this over and over every few minutes.
The computer has done this both when plugged in and not (and it's pretty annoying to have 1/2 the charge vanish overnight!).
Wake when modem detects ring and wake for ethernet administrator access are both unchecked (and in any case, it is not connected to Ethernet or a phone line), nor is the PB set to wake up at a specific time.
    Any ideas?
    Powerbook G4   Mac OS X (10.3.9)
    Powerbook G4

My Powerbook does it all the time but just stays on.
Nearly all the time the display stays off too so the
only way to get it going is to hard reset it which
Mine does that too sometimes, but I think that's a separate problem. It seems to happen on occasion (rarely, thankfully) that when I try to sleep my computer, the display turns off but the computer isn't asleep. (It's mostly asleep though; it can't be accessed remotely, for example. Or maybe it's crashed.) As you say, the only solution is a hard reset. Anyway, maybe for some reason your computer is more prone to this behavior, so when it wakes up and then tries to sleep again, it crashes.

  • My PowerBookG4 doesn't wake up to receive faxes

Fax modem configured and working - sending and receiving all fine
Energy saver settings set to "wake when the modem detects a ring"
Except it doesn't!.... the phoneline goes ring ring ring - the laptop goes "zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz"
Anyone else have this problem or got any ideas? Seems v wasteful to leave the laptop on 24/7 just to receive faxes.
    Any help appreciated

  • Auto Sleep broken by ATI Firmware update?

Since the ATI firmware update for my Alum 24" iMac 2.4 GHz, the auto sleep function is no longer working. I can sleep the computer manually via the apple menu, but the auto sleep controlled from the energy saver panel in system preferences never seems to kick in.
I tried trashing the plist for energy management. Tried un-checking "wake when modem detects a ring", "wake for Ethernet administrator access" boxes, but no dice.
Is anyone else out there facing a similar issue, or have a solution?

By retracing my steps, I began removing items that had been added before the restart which was required by the firmware update. There was a widget from appleinsider.com that I deleted, and auto sleep now functions normally. Curiously, the same widget is on my iBook G4 running Leopard 10.5.1 with no conflicts.
I think the key is that whatever request the widget was making was preventing the autosleep, and that it had not developed into a problem until after the restart following the update.
If others are having an issue, don't forget to check your widgets.

  • Internet Connection thru USB /N95 8GB

I have just got the N95 8GB and loaded the software etc. It will not connect to the internet, error msg says no modem detected.
I had a similar problem with the previous N95 in the months leading up to my upgrade. After using it to connect to the net many times it failed to work and said no modem detected.

When you've connected your usb cable & phone, go to device manager of XP/Vista & check if there is Nokia modem installed or its yellow or red. From there you'll know if the nokia moden driver is properly installed. When you click it will tell working properly. You might have MS OS problem, try it in other PC/Laptop.

  • Pls help me out (its urgent)

    hi
i have connected two pcs using modem via PSTN using comm api in follwing sequences.
    1) My local modem calls to the Remote modem using the ATDT 235 command
    2) on remote side one program continuosly listens to the incoming call.
    3) After that my local modem detects the "CONNECT 9600" response.
    4) Also my remote modem detects the same response it waits for some time and start transmitting data.
    5) But my local modem is unable to receive some starting bytes and after some bytes it has receive it stops the receiving bytes.
    6) But when i terminate the remote program my local modem receives the whole set of bytes.
    Remote modem - DLINK DFM-562E++
    Local Modem - DLINK DFM-560ES
i want to transfer data in a zip file and at local i will unzip it successfully
    THANKS IN ADVANCE

Please try to come up with another explanation. However the error what prevents case from working is probably not Java's or your program's. See the manuals of your modems

  • Is it possible to wake a computer on an Airport network?

I have a broken ankle, so I am spending a lot of time in bed with my iBook, but all the goodies I want are on my PMG5 which is on my Airport Express network. I know the IP address of it. I'm relatively sure I have the option "Wake when the modem detects a ring" set. I can hobble over to that room on my crutches to check that but I just would like to know what to do so that I don't spend too much time over there.
I would like to use Apple Remote Desktop and AFP from my iBook to access the PMG5, they are both all set up for that, but does the PMG5 need to be on, as opposed to sleep? Is there some third party program I can use to wake it up. I know I can leave it on and access files etc, but I would also like to be a little energy-conscious. Any advice you might have would be much appreciated by me and my lame broken ankle! Thank you so much!!!

Having your Express setup as a WDS should work as long as you have the option checked to "Enable Ethernet Port".
Give it a try and let us know. Your G5 would essentially be hooked up via ethernet. Make sure your are connected via Ethernet and not the Airport when trying this. Maybe even turn off the Airport Card when testing.
Maybe someday Apple will add the "Wake for Wireless network administrator access" in the Energy Saver Control Panel.

  • PB wakes from sleep

I have a PowerBook G4 1.67 running OS 10.5.4. Everything was working fine after the upgrade until recently. For some reason, it will wake from sleep without me doing anything (and won't sleep automatically when I close the case.) To get it to sleep, I used the keyboard shortcut (command + option + eject). At times, it will wake from sleep less than a minute after using that shortcut; other times, it will wake several minutes later; at still other times, it will stay in sleep. The issue seems to be worsening, in that it wakes less than a minute after sleep more frequently.
Also, as mentioned above, closing the case does not put it in sleep as it used to.
I have checked all power settings. They are as follows:
Battery power: computer to sleep when inactive for 5 minutes, displays to sleep when inactive for 5 minutes, hard disks to sleep when possible; wake option unchecked (i.e. no check by "wake when modem detects a ring"); other options checked are "slightly dim the display when using this power source," "automatically reduce the brightness of the display before display sleep," and "show battery status in the menu bar"
Power adapter: computer to sleep when inactive for 15 minutes, displays to sleep when inactive for 10 minutes, hard disks to sleep when possible; wake options are checked (i.e. checks by "wake when modem detects a ring" and "wake for ethernet network admin access"); other options checked are "automatically reduce the brightness of the display before display sleep" and "show battery status in the menu bar"
Any thoughts on what the issue might be?

Hi, tolsun. Do you have any peripheral devices connected to the Powerbook? If so, disconnect them and see whether the problem disappears. Many USB devices, in particular, are not sleep-savvy and will disrupt or prevent sleep by producing activity on the USB bus at regular intervals — in some cases, even when they're turned off. Any such activity will wake a Mac from sleep if it's been put to sleep manually, or will prevent it from being "idle" long enough to put itself to sleep automatically.
Another possible cause is having fax receiving enabled. If it's enabled, disable it and see whether that resolves the sleep problem.
