Monitor preferences don't hold when changing users or restarting

After upreading to Maverics my 4 monitor screens are all mirrored and at the wrong resolution. I have to reset them in sys prefs each time I log in or out or restart. This is a major PITA!

You have tested the headphones on another device?

  • Keeping iTunes playing when changing user account

    Hi,
    I would like to setup a "music" account on our family iMac to select music from within iTunes and send it to our sound system. I'm tired of always having to reshelf CDs!
    But for this to work, we need to be able to switch to our own account when we want to use the iMac while iTunes continue playing to the sound system. I did not find any option that may allow me to do this and right now it stops playing as soon as we switch to another account using "fast user switching".
    We have Snow Leopard and iTunes 10.0.1.
    My other option is to buy a second hand iPod to do this, but I hesitate buying one just for this when my iMac seems perfectly able to handle the task.

    It seems AirTunes has been renamed AirPlay. It is not stated that it will keep playing even when I change user account, so I am glad you were able to provide this bit of information. Your suggestion to get an Airport Express appears to be the most realistic and cheap option. As for the AppleTV, it would have been more versatile (music to my sound system, video content to my TV via HDMI), except that my sound system is very old (but still works well) and has no optical audio in, which is the only audio output option for an AppleTV, if I understand well.
    It would have been nice though to have the audio out of the mac connected into my sound system and just tell iTunes to keep playing music in the background even when changing user.

  • Placed files don't update when changed

    For some reason when I place PSD files into Illustrator, they no longer update when changed.
    I've tried setting preferences to both 'Ask When Modified' and 'Automatically'...
    It used to work OK, just in the past month or so it's stopped.
    Also I notice that when I place a PSD file it is asking me if I want to flatten layers, which it didn't used to, as far as I remember.

    Right you iz.
    You can always use the Place command to replace an embedded file with a linked one.
    If you've got Shift or Shift Lock held down, files will embed when placed or dragged in from the finder, otherwise they'll be linked.

  • Freezing when changing users

    I've been having a problem recently where when I try to change users, the login screen freezes up. Goes to spinning beach ball and won't do anything. Any ideas?

    Is your signature out of date or have you been updating your Mac regularly as OS X and security updates have become available? Have you updated both the Firmware and the SMC firmware? If you have forced any shutdowns have you booted from the Install DVD and used Disk Utility in the Utilities menu to repair your hard drive? Have you used Disk Utility in Apps/Utilities to repair permissions on your boot volume at the least after installing new software or new software updates?

    hi! my daughter and i often use the same computer, a MBP
    changing users, however, can be tricky, either way slow or just hanging up completely

    I see that back in September, another Brooklynite posted about this problem that I have always had for iChat (right now v.429, but has always been a problem for me). http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=1024102&#1024102
    Basically, my default user settings have the font set to Helvetica 12pt FRACTIONS of all things! So my messages, incoming and outgoing, are complete gobblety-gook. I have managed to set the incoming messages to a different font, which seems to hold (thank god), but the outgoing won't change. MADDENING! Especially when saving transcripts for business is important. Any ideas?

    HI Caltlin,
    The solution is to disable Helvetica Fractions from the whole system with Font Book.
    Helvetica fractions has been a problem for some Apple Applications for a while.
    If the Font is not acitve on the MAc then iChat will not be ale to use it for Incoming or Outgoing Text messages.

  • Notifications preferences don't hold

    Small annoyance here, but when I change my notifications preference from banners to alerts, they revert back to banners after restart.  Anyone else having that issue?

    Here are the instructions I got from AppleCare from an Apple Engineer. I'm not sure if the fix was specifically for my machine or if it'll work for someone else. Follow at your own risk.
    1. Open the Library folder in your Home folder.
    2. In the Library folder, open the Application Support folder.
    3. Locate the folder named NotificationCenter. Drag this folder to the desktop.
    4. Next, open the Terminal application.
      Copy and paste each line of these commands into the Terminal window, in order. Press return after each line:
    cd `getconf DARWIN_USER_DIR`
    rm -rf com.apple.notificationcenter
    killall usernoted; killall NotificationCenter
    5. Close the Terminal app.
    6. Restart your computer.
    The notification preference changes won't stick until you restart a 2nd time after this.

  • Time Capsule don't work when change base station password

    Hello.
    I bought a Time Capsule in 8th April 2010. In August 2010 it begun report problems  (the message "Finishing backup..." always appeared and backup never ended, beyond Finder crashed all time with the pop up message error - 10810).
    In January of this year, the device just didn't worked. Actually, when it turned on just the Airport function worked. In 29th of that month I receive a brand new TC after I went to technical support.
    But, in 17th April 2011, it just didn't worked. At all. And, for my bad, at this time, the garantee was expired.
    What I did? Well, I restarted it with default configuration (many times) until can access the hard drive. Even erase the disk (after restore some backups when I had the chance).
    Well, after this, It works again. But the TC base station password now can't changed.
    Actually it can be changed. But, if I do this, the TimeMachine don't get make HD TC's avaliable. And I just don't know why.
    I say this because after I restored, manually, the base station password to this default settings (password "public", without quote), it returned works normally.
    But I want change this password, because all my backups will be visible for that one's that have a Mac and access my TimeCapsule device.
    I think this product is the greatest Fail of Apple. Many people reclaims about it, mainly for its short life and overheating.
    Anyway, if there is any people that could help me, I'll appreciate!
    I'm brazilian and I'm not so good in English. So I could make some grammar mistakes. Sorry about that.
    By the way, if its possible, that one's that answer my question, please, don't use many slang.

    By the way, after I change the password for grab these screens I can not access my TimeCapsule HD again.
    I'm trying (and trying, and trying, again and again) access it after restore to the default settings, but I haven't any sucess.
    Ah. Now a message, like this "You are with the device default change. Are you sure keeping this?", appears when I try modify just the network password (keeping the original password device, that is "public").

  • PS2010: Resource synchronization fails in project site creation and when changes users at the Security Groups.

    I am not using AD syncronization for resource pool and security groups in Project Server 2010.
    When I publish a new Project or try to create a Project web site manually it creates the Project site, but fails to synch the resources.
    If I add or change one or more resources at the Project Managers security group at PWA it also fails to synchronize the root site and existing Project web sites.
    I looked at the ULS log and appears the the following error:

    My Project site template is exactly the same than original Project Server site template (for test purpose) but created as Project site and then saved as template with another name.
    In both cases there are a reference to "ReportServer", but I do not have either a Report Server installed in the farm or the Reporting Services Service Application.
    Any ideas how can I correct this issue?

    Hi Segawa,
    In the above thread you are saying that there are reference to "Report Server". Save the template to local file system and extract the template. Now check the onet.xml under "Webtemplates" folder. Do you see the references of report server there.
    If that is the case, my suggestion would be to recreate the template without the reference for report server and then test the behavior.
    Also, you can even remove the reference in the onet.xml and use some compressing tools to rebuild the wsp file and then use that as template.

  • How to trigger event when changing user status?

    hi,
    I'm having problems in triggering my workflow.
    In CIC0, When a status of a service request is changed to 'solution provided' then after saving service request, it should send a notification mail. I'm using ZBUS200116 which is deligated to BUS2000116. I've created event 'change' in ZBUS200116 which is in the start events of my workflow.
    I've tried creating an action profile which uses my workflow. The action profile is attached to the transaction but still it doesn't trigger my workflow.
    i've checked other existing workflows which uses the same object type BUS2000116 or ZBUS200116. These workflows were triggered by 'created' and 'completed' events only. Other added events in ZBUS200116 like 'changed' is not triggered. How is this possible when ZBUS200116 is deligated to BUS2000116?

    so here we are,now i got complete understanding of what u r doing and why
    you know you need not have created that change event because it wont serve your purpose anyway
    the reason is that because the way process in your workflow is flowing ,it wont happen that way using change event
    you just follow these  steps:
    1, use created event in your workflow
    2. that way when your contract ios created in rpocess status the event will be triggered only because you are creating a transaction whatever may be the status,so in all such cases you should use event created.
    3. now coming to the point of change in status or documents in contract
    in this case using loop will put you in deadlock and you will only be haing the error in such case
    you use WAIT step instead ,inside it use wait using conditions out of every option
    there you give your condition as change in whatever status
    like if you are chaning the status from in process to some other status ,put that status inside the condition
    as soon as that conditioon is met ,the WAIT step will be executed,
    that way you will be able to trigger the change in status through thje workflow
    so thats the solution with the approach you are using
    there are many approaches you can follow in workflows ,so depending upon that you can follow the different worlkflow tools u have there.
    also remember when your wait step gets executed there is always the time lag of 20-25 minutes after which changes will be reflected

  • Applications hang and don't release when changing to another program.

    We run three very similar configurations on three computers running Adobe CS3 suite (illus, ind, photoshp, bridge, golive). Very often, every day, when we switch from one application to another, the previous program will not release from the memory and allow the second program to completely take over the screen. So, if I was in Illustrator to begin with, and then I switch to Indesign, the Indesign panels may appear, but the menu bar will still say Illustrator, and it will have Illustrators menu selections.
    This can easily happen going from Photoshop to Safari, or between the Apple programs. About the only exit strategy is to click directly on the Finder icon in the dock. Many times that will release the program, but very often we have to restart the program that won't let go (in my example that would be Illustrator).
    This has really become an annoyance and productivity killer.
    10.4.10 on Power Mac G5, on Power Mac G4, and sometimes on Intel iMac.
    The two PM computers have dual monitors.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    The FieldPoint IAK File is used in application programs (e.g. LabVIEW, LabWindows/CVI, OPC) for channel names, handle information and scaling information. FP Open.vi launches the FieldPoint Server with the specified IAK file, and uses the information in the specified IAK file for scaling (serial modules require scaling on the computer, ethernet modules scale the data in the network module) but does not re-configure the IO modules according to the IAK file. Likewise, opening an IAK file in FieldPoint Explorer does not reconfigure the IO modules to match the IAK file. The only times that settings are synchronized between the IAK and the modules are when a)the Find Devices command is issued (config from modules loaded), b) the Channel Configuration wi
    ndow is opened (file or module config can be choosen) or c) a Snapshot command is issued (current settings of modules are stored).
    Currently, the FieldPoint Server VI's do not allow dynamic re-configuration of ranges. If you wish to dynamically reconfigure your module ranges, you will need to use the FieldPoint Optomux VI's, which are located under the RT sub-palette of FieldPoint. They are installed by default only if you have LabVIEW RT, so you may need to re-install FieldPoint Explorer (custom install) to get them. For more information on the Optomux commands, please see the FP-1000/1001 Programmers Reference Manual.

  • How do I set one monitor calibration for the whole system and users?

    I'm really angry because when I logged into my first default account, My settings where normal, but I logged into my alt account, the settings where all messed up (NO ONE TOUCHED MY COMPUTER, AND THE ACCOUNT HAS A STRONG PASSWORD) The white balance was that slightly blue one. So, I changed it, and logged in to the alt account again to see it was okay. I want to my main account and used screenlock, and noticed on the login screen (I logged out of the account after I saw to see this same thing) it was the light bluer white balance. So I logged in and calibrated AGAIN and it finally when back to the default on the login screen (2:2 or something and native white balance) and my preferences for my accounts (television gamma, and native white balance) I just want it system wide to be:
    -2:2 TELEVISION GAMMA
    -Native White Gamma
    Or at-least the login screen, and my two accounts, and that settings to be the system wide default.

    First off, if you want help, act like an adult. We're all just other users you're talking to, not Apple employees. Such angry behavior will only ensure that no one will respond to any questions by you in the future.
    Second, there's nothing wrong with Kappy's advice. The /Library/ColorSync/Profiles/ folder is accessible by all user accounts. So putting one common monitor profile there and setting it in each account is what you want to do.
    What you're seeing is a known issue when switching users without restarting. I don't know if there's ever been a true solution for it.

    I am very new to BO (using Business Objects 11.5) so bear with me if I am not clear or seem to have no idea what I'm talking about.
    As a .NET Developer I have been asked to work on a project that involves creating new BO users and logging them in from an ASP.NET application (in order to mimic a single sign in system from another piece of software). I have found most of the information I require for this in the .NET SDK. However there is one function the client would like that I have not been able to find a solution for, and that is to change the users document viewing preferences.
    Within InfoView, if you go into user preferences, under the General tab there is the following option:
    For each document, show me ...
    descriptionownerdateinstance countactions and description (if selected) initially not hidden
    I think by default all of the boxes are checked however the client only wants the description showing for each user when they are set up. Is this something that can be modified within the code when the user is created or is each user going to have to change this themselves manually once logged in?
    Any help will be much appreciated.

    The InfoView settings aren't documented, unfortunately, but with sufficient trial-and-error, you'd be able to determine the correct values.
    The settings are stored in the SI_DATA property 'desktopsettings' for a User object - you can have a look by logging onto 'Query Builder', accessible from the admin launchpad, and entering a query of the form: "Select SI_ID, SI_NAME, SI_DATA From CI_SYSTEMOBJECTS Where SI_KIND='User' And SI_NAME='<username here>'".
    You'd see that, if you've specified the properties manually in InfoView (the property is not there by default) that it consists of '&'-separated key=value entries. 
    You'd retrieve the value via Enterprise .NET SDK call User.GetProfileString("desktopsettings"), and set new values via User.SetProfileString("desktopsettings", <new string value here>). 
    The specific values you're interested in are booleans dv0=1, dv1=1, dv2=1, dv3=1, and dv4=1.

  • Can't change user preferences when Acting As a user

    I've configured the 'Act As' functionality so as an administrator (Proxy User) I can log in as another user. However when I attempt to change any of target user's preferences I get the following message :-
    "Exception occurred when saving user preferences to the catalog access denied for user to path /users/[email protected]/_prefs/userprefsxmlstore"
    Proxy Level is set at full for all users.
    I've tried changing the permissions on the users folders via the Catalog manager but doesn't seem to make any difference.
    Any help would be great!

    hi all. Hope someone can help me because I'm getting very frustrated and not finding answers! I am trying to change my billing address in my itunes store account, but itunes is not allowing me to do this. At the bottom of the page, I only get the 'cancel' button, no 'done' button to make changes. I am using an HP mini, and am a registered US itunes account holder, living outside the US right now (East Timor to be precise).
    Why won't the store let me change my info? I'm not having any other problems.
