Monitor SAP DB

Hello!
I would like to monitor the satelite systems from SOLMAN (Tcode RZ20) and have the following question.
In one Solution Manager I have the following structure:
SAP CCMS Monitor Templates --> Database --> MaxDB
In my Solution Manager I have only SAP CCMS Monitor Templates --> Database
How can the monitor "MaxDB" can be activated?

To be able to monitor the database on your Solution Manager system:
-> Please check if the database client software installed on the
application server. See notes:

-> What is the version of the database? What is the SAP Basis SP on
your Solution Manager system & what is the SAP kernel version
your Solution Manager system?
-> If the system is NOT running with MAXDB, you need MAXDB database-dependent part of the SAP kernel, which is known as the DBSL installed on the application server.

After that the application server need to be restarted.
-> See in the SAP note 588515 the section 3.
Call transaction DB59, Select "Integrate database" & create the database
connection, for example, TEST < You could name it MAXDB_<SID> to have
unique connection name>. And follow the further instructions.
Please run the 'Connection test' after that & review the log.
After the database connection was created in /ndb59 you could double click
on the created connection TEST .
Or /ndb59 -> select connection -> click database assistant bottom =>
it brings you to the database assistant (DB50/DB50N).
And in the database assistant you could click on Alert Monitor and activate
the database MTE tree.
You could run the /ndb50n transaction & specify the created in the /ndb59 database connection TEST and execute to monitor the MAXDB database on your system.

There's currently no way to monitor a whole SAP system through gridcontrol. Of course you can monitor the underlying database.

Monitoring SAP environment from portal

Hello,
Im a web developer and as Im new to portal development I want to find out if there exists a program or way to monitor a SAP system from the portal.
I want to call up e.g. the dialog stats (st03n) for each day of the month and display a graph in the portal.
Once I can do that I want to call solution manager and determine the custom checks and create a graph/table for each of the checks.
E.g. If I need to check cpu performance (st04), canceled jobs (sm37) and short dumps (st22), then the page displays those either for the current day or I can choose to display the month.
I know I have to use web dynPro IViews and Java and have been playing with JCo and jsp pages.
I also heard about JCA but have not gone into detail with that.
With JCo I can connect to a R3 system and call a BAPI function. As I found out there are thousands of them and no list, documentation or definition about them that I have found so far.
E.g.

Hello Nick,
I can create an IView for each transaction and display the gui frontend in the page, but that will be as if I work with the gui and not let me access or receive specific information.
It will also not be usefull to combine transactions in one page, or to create graphs from the information.
I want just the data that is stored in the database or created from the BAPI function I.e. variables or hashtables

Added manged system SAP ERP 6.0 NW 7.0 SP 28.
completed managed system and technical monitoring.
But still not getting system in Technical monitoring -> system monitoring work center.

Monitoring SAP PI Java components.

Hi,
SAP PI 7.10 SP7.
I am using the same server, where the Java compontent are, to do the monitoring.
I have created a GRMG template containing all the SAP PI Java components that I have uploaded and started successfully into GRMG. The status in GRMG for these compontents are good.
The tcode RZ21 Technical Infrastructure > Configure Central System > Maintain System Groups, I have created groups "ExchangeInfrastructure_Systems " and "J2EE_Systems" with the system "SID" as systems under each of these. If one look at the "Monitoring Active" tab the status for both are "yes". I have created thought the RZ21 Technical Infrastructure > Configure Central System > Create CSMREG User.
However now when I go into RZ20 > SAP CCMS Monitor Templates > Process Integration > SID > Java Compontents > Heartbeats then I do not see any of the Java compontent there.
Please can you assist in this matter.

Problem solved. In the template the scenario name "<scenname>XI_DIR</scenname>" I have changed to "<scenname>PI_DIR</scenname>". And for all the other scenarios. If this is done the CCMS monitor does not pick it up. Once I have changed the scenario name back the problem was solved.
Also the cookies comment above in the RCC destination helped with the J2SE monitoring.

Here we use IBM ITM SAP agent to do this work.
ITM add some programs and transactions to configure this. We configure RZ20 CCMS monitors and export those alert information to ITM agent that has also integration with IBM Maximo (ITIL based tool to track incidents,changes,problems, etc...)
I don't have any details about coding of this agent but I think you could use a ready-to-use product or develop your own based on your needs.
Maybe using an out of the box product will reduce costs managing code (develop and maintenance)

Nagios monitoring SAP systems

Dear Sir or Madam,
I have RHEL 6.2 with Nagios 3 and I wanted to monitored my SAP systems. I downloaded from SAP Website the SAP NW RFC SDK 7.20. I used the SAPCAR to unzip the file. Do I need to compile something to install the RFC on my server?
Do you have some information about how to connect monitoring tools like Nagios with SAP systems?

For J2EE you would have to use jcmon to monitor your instance...

Monitoring SAP-systems

Hi there,
Our company is currently setting up a monitoring system (Nagios) for the IT-infrastructure.
I'm looking for a consistent check for our SAP systems.
On a Oracle database level, a tnsping <ORACLE_SID> should be sufficient, I believe.
For the app_server, a possibility is to check for the existence of SAP-workprocesses with a ps -ef | grep <SAP_SID>. However, this looks rather primitive.
Are there any SAP tools available to implement a more consistent check on app_server level ?

Solution Manager to Monitor SAP NetWeaver Portal

Hi ,
I have setup Solution Manager 4.0 SP11 and I have a production EP.
I want to monitor the EP using Solution Manager. The monitoring would check if the portal is down and if it is down, the Solution Manager would send a email to the Portal Administrator.
In order to achieve the above monitoring setup, do I need to install Solution Manager Diagnostics?

SAP WebSite Monitoring - SAP CRM....

Hello Gurus,
We are currently implementing 'E-Analytics' based reports for a WEBSHOP based CRM data in BI system.
Currently we are planning to implement using DB Connect to connect between BI, EP and E-Commerce DB.For which we need to find the table details regarding the WebSite Monitoring parameters like 1. Session ID 2.User ID 3.Dwell time 4.Web Application 5.Web Event, etc.
All the above details will be stored in a Web Based table. I am not sure, whether it will be on the ABAP tables or Java tables.But we badly need this table details to establish a DB connect.
Can anyone help me in getting this table? It would be of great help.

- For S.O. monitoring (CPU, Memory, etc) you can use linux program "system-monitor" .
- For SAP monitoring (User,Process,Trace, Dump, etc) you can use the same transaction for any S.O. (SM21, ST22, SM51, etc)

Not able to select lineitems in planner monitor,SAP GRC10 PC

We have created plans and we can able to see created plans in planner monitor under assessment planning in NWBC
we can able to select the plan name and send to recipient by using Notify button up to this everything is fine
but when we want to send more than one plans to recipients,not able to select the line items.
any idea to resolve this.

Even if you can choose multiple lines by pressing ctrl key, Notification is
allowed for one plan at once. So, it won't allow you to do so.

Monitoring SAP Ent Portal Transactions

Hi all,
I am a newbie to SAP and hence need some f/b from all of you SAP gurus. Our objective is to measure the end-user experience of users who access SAP via HTTP through their Enterprise portals.
My questions are:
1. Does each SAP Transaction over HTTP have a unique siganture (or URL) that we can trace/track to measure the response time ???
2. If we can breakup the general HTTP traffic into its various threads like HTTP GETs and HTTP POSTs then can we correlate all these threads to its Single Individual SAP Transaction ??? (again this is related to Q1).
3. If a single SAP Transaction is made up of several Dialog steps on the SAP infrastructure is it possible to correlate the dialog steps that make up this single SAP Transaction ???? If so how ?
If there are any articles or help files related to the above please let me know. Any feedback is much appreciated.

the http protocol is on the one side very chatty but one the other side there are many server and browser side optimization configurations which can be done. With some fuzzyness short answers to your quetions are:
1. yes in most instances
2. Yes via session cookies
3. yes, again via session cookies, all requests from one users have unique session cookies in the http header.
Good tools which can your life easier are httpmon or if you can make more investment Mercury LoadRunner.

Monitor SAP Instance using Webdynpro

I have a requirement to show the server SAP Instance status in WebDynpro Application.
for an example:
My server name : myserver
SAP Instance : DE3
I need to create a webdynpro iView which shows the server status like below:
a) If the instance is up and running,I need to show that the server status as green.
b) If the instance is not running,I need to show that the server status as red.

you can create such web dynpro application....
you have tutorial for service call..
create aservice call in such a way that it displays the po in a table....
have the table in edit mode....
the values would be present in an internal table...
so once the values are changed have an update button.
call the respective bapi to update it in the database.

We have been leveraging SAP XI/PI monitoring capabilities using the Alter Framework: ALRTCATDEF and setting up alert rules in RWB.
However, we would like to start leveraging SOLMAN monitoring features for monitoring SAP XI/PI interfaces.
Please, let us know if anyone has been using SOLMAN for monitoring SAP XI/PI AE & IE interface errors AND how it can be done; so that we can work with Basis in getting this set up in SOLMAN.
Any info - or - documentation and links related to SOLMAN monitoring of SAP XI/PI interfaces would help.
