Months later and I still cannot update to IOS 5.1!!!
You name it, Ive tried it. Done all the different trouble shooting bits and bobs, ie uninstalled security, itunes reinstalled ,disabled apple mobile, used a different pc, etc yet still i cannot update my ipad?
I even ventured to my local Apple store and the assistant had the same problem and couldn't help me either!
Is it only my Ipad having this problem? Why can't the Apple people see this device either??
Apart from throwing the thing in the bin does anyone else have any suggestions of what I can do that might work please?
Hoping someone will suggest something that I haven't already tried and will work.

Below I have pasted the last thing I tried that still didnt work...
From the Start menu, click All Programs and click Accessories.
Click Run. A Run window (command prompt) appears.
Type msconfig in the Open field and click OK.
If Windows needs your permission to continue, click Continue. The System Configuration Utility opens.
Click the General tab.
Select the "Selective Startup" option.
Deselect the "Load Startup Items" checkbox.
Note: This step requires disabling third-party System Services and Startup Items, which can prevent some software or OEM hardware on your computer from working correctly. For example, this can affect the CD/DVD control buttons on portable computers or prevent wireless keyboards and mice from functioning. This is only required during troubleshooting to help isolate third-party conflicts with Apple software.
Click the Startup tab.
Select the "iTunes" and "QuickTime" checkboxes in the list.
Click the Services tab.
Make sure that "Hide All Microsoft Services" is selected.
Click Disable All.
Note: If you are troubleshooting an issue related to iPad, iPhone, or iPod touch, select the Apple Mobile Device checkbox.
Click OK.
Click Restart. After restarting (and logging in to Windows), a message may appear stating that Windows has blocked startup programs and indicates the Blocked startup programs icon in the notification area (far right) of the taskbar. Click the message.
Click the Blocked startup programs icon, select Run blocked program and select System Configuration Utility.
If Windows needs your permission to continue, click Continue. A window appears confirming that "You have used the System Configuration Utility to make changes to the way Windows starts." Click OK. The System Configuration Utility appears. Do not click OK here as this will prompt you to restart again. First try to reproduce the issue you were having.
If following these steps resolves the issue, you may want to use the System Configuration Utility to turn on the third-party System Services and Startup Items one or a few at a time (restarting your computer after turning on the item or items) to identify which System Service or Startup Item is causing the conflict. You can turn all of them back on by selecting the Normal Startup option under the General tab of the System Configuration Utility window, but please note that this may cause the issue to recur.
Additional Information
If the issue is still occurring with Selective Startup mode, third-party security software may still be operating regardless of the state of Msconfig. Follow iTunes for Windows: Troubleshooting security software issues.

If you have an iPad 1, the max iOS is 5.1.1. For newer iPads, the current iOS is 6.0.1. For the iPad Mini the iOS is 6.0.2. The Settings>General>Software Update only appears if you have iOS 5.0 or higher currently installed.

If you are currently running an iOS lower than 5.0, connect the iPad to the computer, open iTunes. Then select the iPad under the Devices heading on the left, click on the Summary tab and then click on Check for Update.
Tip - If connected to your computer, you may need to disable your firewall and anitvirus software temporarily. Then download and install the iOS update. Be sure and backup your iPad before the iOS update. After you update an iPad (except iPad 1) to iOS 6.x, the next update can be installed via wifi (i.e., not connected to your computer).

worked for me, then general software update showed "ios 7.0.4" is up to date. awful long and frightening update but all well that ends well. this Sleep/wake AND Home worked to shut off.

The following is how to do a proper reset of an iDevice:
Device Reset (won't affect settings/data/music/apps/etc)
1. Press and hold (& continue to hold) BOTH the Sleep/Wake button & the Home button.
2. Continue to hold BOTH (ignoring any other messages that may show) until you see the Apple logo on the screen.
3. Release BOTH buttons when you see the Apple logo and allow the device to boot normally. -

Yes, you have to connect the iPod to that computer and go to the Photos pane for the iPod in iTunes and uncheck sync photos and the click on synce/apply. In the future do not check sync photos.

- Settings>Messages>Send and receive and sign out your ID and sign into hers. Make sure that only her ID email address is listed.

- Settings>iCloud and sign out and sign in with hers
Contnue to use the commpn ID/account for Settings>iTunes and App stores. -

I called Apple technical support in Denmark, but with no positive reply.
She couldn't do anything, and said that They had sent a recall Email about the problem and with their offer to repair the Macbook Pro, but I'd never recieved an Email about the problem. She wasn't in power to make an exception. It can't be true that i paid a lot of money, for a product that can't barely stand on its own feets, Apple didn't tell me that the product I was about to buy, would restart every 5 minute. and now when they know the problem, they wont repair it? it just don't make sense for me. If a car seller discovers that all the brakes in a car he had sold, will crash after some years he will call all the cars back to repair no mater what. i just don't understand how Apple will make good service for their custumers, by extending the warranty from 2 to 3 years, but wont take the computers there is a little bit to old, 4 months will make the difference. i can't believe it.
What can i do now?

Is your AirPort Extreme the only router in your current network configuration? Which exact model is it? If there are other routers being used, please provide their make(s) & model(s). Also the make & model of your Internet modem.
What is your goal with the Extreme? Is it to replace the "old" AirPort Express? Will you still be using the Express for any reason(s)? -
I had an unauthorized purchase on my old apple ID so I created a new one since the old one had been deactivated and now I cannot update any of my apps, I have read that the apps will be tied to the old account but since the old one was deactivated I cant update them and I do not want to delete/lose their data, re download, and start all over again. Is there anyway to go around this issue?

However, I asked them to reopen it, and they just asked me to provide some security information (billing address, a recent purchase you made, etc.), and then they re-enabled it.

I have installed the beta version of 6.1 a month ago and now i cannot open my iphone 5 it needs regestration and when i try to register it says that it couldnt complete and i need to register in the developer what can i do now to reopen my device?
Probably wasn't a good idea to install beta software on a device when you're not a developer.
Apple clearly states that beta software is not to be installed on production devices.
Not really much you can do except wait for iOS 6.1 to be officially released and then install it. -

I found the solution on the Internet... One must place your pointer on the icon that is presently showing and then press the letter "o" key to toggle between the Burn, Dodge, and Sponge tools. -
Hello, I want to upgrade to OS X Mavericks but it keeps telling me to free up space on my start up disk. I deleted many files and I still cannot download it. What do I do delete everything? I do not even know how to check for available space on my laptop...I know, I know. Anyone help me out if you can =)
Freeing Up Space on The Hard Drive
1. See Lion/Mountain Lion/Mavericks' Storage Display.
2. You can remove data from your Home folder except for the /Home/Library/ folder.
3. Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on freeing up space on your hard drive.
4. Also see Freeing space on your Mac OS X startup disk.
5. See Where did my Disk Space go?.
6. See The Storage Display.
You must Empty the Trash in order to recover the space they occupied on the hard drive.
You should consider replacing the drive with a larger one. Check out OWC for drives, tutorials, and toolkits.
Try using OmniDiskSweeper 1.8 or GrandPerspective to search your drive for large files and where they are located.
You need at least 12 GBs of free space to install Mavericks plus another 6 GBs for the download.
Select your HDD icon. Press COMMAND-I to open the Get Info window. In the upper most panel you will see the information displayed: Capacity, Available, and Used. You want to know what's Available. -
