Mouse area turns brownish. help!

Hi,
The flat mouse area on my powerbook suddenly turned darker in color, going towards brown. I don't know why. First, I thought it might be just dirty, but I don't use it to begin with. Instead I attach a USB mouse all the time. I tried cleaning it with cloth, but it's of no use.
Did anyone experienced something like this before? or Does anyone know why did this happen? Could this be a result of overheating or something?
Could the powerbook's surface change in color when in contact with some substance? There is a lighter spot on my spacebar and it doesn't go off.
Another thing, what would u guys suggest for cleaning the powerbook's screen and case? I tried apple's suggestions, but there are spots that aren't affected by a damp cloth.

Maybe you switched on some accessibility setting by keeping some (status) pressed for too long.

If you are using Mac, press Apple + I to get the information. It show a table. There is a section call Open with. Change the file with pdf icon to open with indesign. If using PC, just click on the second button on the mouse and open with Indesign.

Images in my FrameMaker 10-sourced Robohelp Web Help project are turning out as blank JPEGS appearing as blank spaces in the final output. How can I fix this?

I'm attempting to create online help sourced from a FrameMaker 10 book using Robohelp 9 and Web Help (primary layout).
The text is interspersed with numeorus small icons which, in the FrameMaker documents, are .bmp images inserted into anchored frames in the lines of text.
Most of these icons were imported by reference into the FrameMaker book's chapters. Some were copied from another FrameMaker book and pasted into the present book.
Many of these images are turning out blank in the finished Help project.
Robohelp seems to convert these images into JPEGS.
In the source FrameMaker book, the images which appear OK in the Help project have Object Properties including: Facets: FrameVector JPEG ... Referenced File: No File
The images which appear blank have different object properties there: Facets: DIB ... Referenced File: (address of the image's source file)
How can I fix this and make all of the images appear in the Online Help?

Sorry, Jeff. I missed the key word in your instructions. Well, I did the import and still no luck. I'm getting the exact same results with the same images. (In some cases, I'm even getting hidden conditional text from the FM document body showing up in the image's frame instead of the image! See below.) This is bizarre behavior, but it's not new with the import. It is happening both in the linked and imported WebHelp with the same exact images. (Just another piece to complicate the puzzle.) So we have some jpeg images that are blank, and a few that are glitchy. From what I can tell, the commonality, besides the fact that all these new images are in jpeg format instead of gif format, is that all the blank and glitchy images are in a text inset. I'm beginning to think maybe RH just doesn't support text insets at all.
Arnis, I'll have to ask my colleague how she created the images next week when she's back from vacation. I have no clue if there are any differences between the jpegs and why some are showing up correctly. What do you mean by "compression type or level?" Are you asking about the resolution (high, medium, low) she chose when saving the images, or which program she used to do the screen capture and editing? (We have Adobe Photoshop CS5 and FM 11).
My next step is to copy-paste all the content from the text insets into my FM document (in the book I am linking) and re-render to see if that solves the problem. It will make single-sourcing impossible because I'll have to copy-paste the new content and images my colleague creates into my document each time we do an update, but oh well.

Replace Color - selected areas turn gray instead of desired sample color. HELP?!

Hi, I am using Photoshop CS3 and have a question regarding "replace color."
First...here are the steps I enacted prior to trying to use the 'replace color' function:
1. In RGB Mode - - Selected and filled a shape a color.
2. Ran the selected object through Alien Skin/Impact "Chrome" function.
3. Selected 'adjustments/desaturate.' Did this so that I could then go to Adjustments/color balance..... and then change the entire color of the object to a predominantly red chrome looking scheme.
4. After giving the object a 'chrome' appearance, I wanted to go into the 'white' hilite areas of the object and sample them - and then change them to a bright red color....this is where the 'REPLACE COLOR' function comes in.
5. So I use the color sample eye dropper within 'REPLACE COLOR' and select the white areas I want to change to red...as the 'selection color.'
6. Then, I click down in the lower color box (result color) and sample a color that I want to change the white hilite areas to...in this case, red.
7. This is where the problem occurs - - even though I chose a result color of red...the white areas turn to grayscale within my colored object...so just those areas are gray!!! What the heck??!!
So... how can I desaturate a selected object... then recolor it using 'Color Balance'.... and then replace colors and have the replaced colors actually be a color instead of a gray color?
My file is in RGB mode and everything else is in COLOR.... yet I cannot replace areas within this colored graphic with other colors...it just keeps putting gray tones into the object.

Hi Curt - - this occurs even if I select a color within the same file... something about desaturating the file and then adding color back into it...I can't get it to replace color after that.

Ligatures are turned as single quotation mark, HELP ME

I'm using ID CS4 in Mac for composing books, so far in two books the ligatures (fi, fl) are turned as single quotation marks in the output export PDF, am unable to find solution for this, looking forward for the solution. Please help me with your great expertise.

Keyboard and Mouse are screwed

Help! I was working away when all of a sudden my keyboard stopped working all together and my mouse will let me click on Toolbar menues but everywhere else the primary button seems to turn into the secondary button. Further, the little ball on top makes the image larger but not smaller. I'm right in the middle of work, this is killing me! The keyboard and mouse are plugged directly into the usb ports on the back. The machine is a:
Imac8.1 with Intel core 2 Duo
I'm using 10.6.7 with Darwin 10.7.0 as the kernal version
The Keyboard and Mouse came with the Imac

Glad to help. The mouse scroll problem is a separate issue. Debris gets caught in the rollerball and it will only scroll one direction. Turn it upside down and rub vigorously with a microfiber cloth and it will usually break free.

How old is the Mouse. When did you last change the batteries. Are they rechargeable or regular.
Here are some notes I have made about batteries.
Batteries. Here are a few notes I've put together. Whether you use regular or rechargeable batteries you should buy the best. Discounted or unbranded batteries are more likely to give a depleted performance and may be of irregular size, often leading to connection problems. Apple’s own brand, Eneloop and Energiser appear to be the best.
Rechargeable batteries for the standard Magic mouse are unlikely to exceed eighteen days before needing a recharge although the mouse itself can be a limiting factor. I have seen reports that some Logitech mice vastly exceed this. Apple may suggest more in their sales blurb but this is a realistic expectation. The benefit (if you are organised) is that you can always have charged batteries available. Regular batteries will give you between 25 and 35 days before they need to be replaced.
Note. Never mix old and new batteries or rechargeable and regular. The notes above are based on my personal experience, not shutting down my machine and using it for around four hours per day. Note. Monitors do not always faithfully report battery strength, particularly the rechargeable ones.
When checking your mouse or keyboard batteries ... Turn off the device. Remove the batteries, Clean the terminals both inside the battery compartment and the batteries themselves. Replace or renew both batteries. Turn on the device. You should get a blinking green light if the device is paired. Click the mouse to activate it. The green light becomes steady.

My iCloud account is set up with my Apple ID as one email account (for example [email protected]) which is the email account I use to sign up for internet sites like Amazon, Apple,etc, so that I can differentiate vendors/mass emails. But my default calendar on my iPhone is in a different email name (ie [email protected]) which I use for most communications to friends, relatives, etc. and it is this account that holds most of my appointments. To further complicate things I have other email accounts that I use for business/professional and community work. If I want all my calendars to show on my iPhone AND sync to my iCloud, do I set this at the phone level or the iCloud level? or both?
Let me clarify....It looks like if I go into appointments that I previously set up through my personal account (ie above [email protected]) and edit the entry on my iPhone, selecting the iCloud "home" calendar within the entry, it will then sync to my iCloud account, no problem....do I have to do this to EVERY entry I have? or is there a way to name my personal account as one to sync to iCloud?

Is there a possibility the batteries are not really fresh and fully charged? It may be you purchased batteries that were too old in the store. Your store may be able to verify they have retained a strong voltage (1.5 volt required for regular alkaline batteries and 1.2 for rechargeable). Old batteries slowly lose their voltage even when not in use.

If you are sure that the battery didn't die on you and that the battery has some power left in it, reboot the iPad and see if it starts up.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

I'm new to Aperture, just loaded version 3. I was playing around with color correcting a photo and clicked on the B&W option. Now all my photos are turning B&W. What did I do, and more importantly, how can I fix it???

Welcome to the forums.
To remove the adjustments, select the affected images, go to the pulldown menu >Photos>Reset All Adjustments.
or
in the adjustments tab, the cog in the top right hand corner of the tab, Reset All Adjustments.
