  • How do I prevent my iPhone from moving my music to the cloud?

This is so frustrating! Every time I try to listen to my music on my iPhone it's all greed out with the cloud icon next to it. This is absolutely the worst music software I've ever used. The interface immediately vanishes replaced by a screen full of tiny 1/10th of a postage stamp sized pictures of my albums, thereby losing the album I was trying to download from a place I never told the software to put my music in the first place. At first I tried emailing support. Got no help at all. Then I tried canceling my subscription to the cloud thinking "ha! Try to steal my music now! Stupid cloud!" then of course I had no access to my music from my phone what so ever. Touché cloud! You win this round! So I BEGRUDGINGLY renew my subscription to this awful service that is holding my
music HOSTAGE! And of course all the music gets moved off to the cloud again. I want my music to STAY on
my phone!!! DUH!! How simple is that right?? Obviously it's too simple as when I am at work (no wi-fi) I can't listen to music on my phone. Unless, of course I want to use up all my monthy data allotment downloading music that by all logic should STILL BE ON MY PHONE. This is so ridiculous I can't believe I'm actually having to post in a discussion forum for a problem that SEEMS INTENTIONAL on apple's part. PLEASE tell me there is a simple solution or I'm done. I'll go get a galaxy or android as I have been fighting this problem for over a ******* year now.

This is what page 23 of the manula says:
Accept the suggestion: Type a space, punctuation mark, or return character.
Reject a suggestion: Tap the “x” next to the suggestion.
Each time you reject a suggestion for the same word, iPhone becomes more likely to accept
    the word.

  • HT1364 I followed this tutorial and iTunes moved my music to the specified directory on another drive, but now it doesn't show up in library. Files are all there.

I'm using Vista 32 bit and itunes 9. Don't want to upgrade to latest version.
I made the transfer with the help of itunes, but now the music while in the new directory itunes doesn't recognise it.
    Any guesses?
    Thanks

    Solved my own problem.
Actually, I just selected all and dragged into Itunes. Didn't work at first, butsince then has worked great. I have transferred approx 58Gb. of music. I also searched through 5 other HDD's and have just put all of my music on all itunes.
I then purchased the software "tuneup media". It is currently de-dupe'ing and fixing all the mis-labeled songs.
This is the problem with newsgroups. People name stuff whatever they want. Hope this helped you.

  • Moved my music to a new hard drive...

Having read most of the other posts on the board, I have yet to read a solution to my specific issue.
I had a crash recently and have upgraded to a new hard drive. I have moved my music from the E: drive to the F: drive in Windows Vista. Using the Shift button when iTunes was loading, I was able to switch the playlist library. So all my playlists are there but now I am getting the message "The song "blank" could not be used because the original file could not be found." To go and find each one will take forever because of the size of my collection.
How do I tell iTunes where to find the songs for my old playlists?

Fair enough Buegie, I'm sure I have scanned past the iLounge article before without noticing or following the link. But at least grant for the non-expert it's easy to get sidetracked. Combine that with stress and frustration and the obvious becomes invisible.
It's a great article. Informative and well written, just like you said. I have not completed it yet, but have already learned the most important factor in my issues. It starts with a confession.
The article leads me to believe that the reason I am struggling with moving iTunes around is because I am someone who has a "referenced" music library. Not only that, but a very large library (by most accounts), and one which my wife relies on for her part time job as a fitness instructor. I am avoiding the confession...
    I don't trust iTunes.
There, I said it. I don't particularly like the way iTunes stores and keeps track of music in the Artist/Album concept either. Example, a Santana album that I have has various artists working with Santana. iTunes creates an artist folder for each track which has only one song in each, because logically to the computer each song is by a different artist "Santana and so-and-so." And the issue I have with trust is that if I ever want to use another program iTunes will store my music in a way such that I would have to spend a lot of time organizing it so that I could find it in another program.
But my trust issues go deeper.
The "this cannot be undone" message scares me to death. The biggest issue though is about trusting iTunes not to have any power over what I do with my music. If I want to move my music to another computer, it's mine, I should be able to. If I want to burn twenty copies, I should be able to. I realize with purchased music this is not allowed and I agree to that when I buy, but I really don't want my other music to be subject to such constraint parameters.
I am going back to the article now. Just thought I'd share. I feel better.

  • I have moved my iTunes library to a new Windows 7 PC and cannot transfer music from the new iTunes PC to my iPhone. The iPhone only accepts transfers from the original iTunes PC.

I have moved my iTunes library to a new Windows 7 PC and cannot transfer music from the new iTunes PC to my iPhone 4S. The iPhone will only accept music transfers from the original iTunes PC. I have come to understand that an iPhone can have only one "daddy" iTunes PC, but have not been able to find out how to change the "daddy". I have done a backup of the iPhone, and a "Restore to Original Settings". Then I restored the content using the new iTunes PC. My Apps and contacts, etc. are back on the iPhone, but it still won't accept music from the new iTunes PC.

What happens when you try to sync the iphone to the new computer?

  • I have followed Apple support Article HT4527 for moving itunes but have insufficient space on my new PC for the complete library of.  How can I leave music on the external HDD but associate the content on my external HDD with my pc itunes when it is open?

I have followed the Apple Support Section Article HT 4527 and have moved itunes media onto an external Hard Drive.  The complete file is 103GB in size.
I have downloaded the latest itunes onto my new PC.
When I follow the article and try moving the itunes file onto the new PC, I am informed that there is insufficient space on my new PC.
In any case, like my old system, I want to leave my music on the external HDD and just have the music library displayed in itunes when I click on the "Music" folder.
How can I get itunes on the new computer to interogate my external HDD to just list the library and leave the music on the external HDD?

you can do this by keeping the external hard drive connected and doing the following
-hold shift key down on computer while opening iTunes and a prompt will appear to choose a library
-select choose library, iTunes should bring up your explorer windows where you can search for the external HD
-after you find the external HD find the iTunes folder you just copied to it
-after opening the iTunes folder look for the file that says iTunes library.itl or if you can't see that extenstion just look for a document looking thing in the iTunes folder that shows up as a database file
-double click the database file and boom iTunes should load your library without having to copy it to the computer
PS: do make sure that if you are going to do it this way, make sure that the external HD is connected at all times, because if you don't then you will get exclamation marks next to your iTunes songs
double PS: if you are unsure how to find out if the iTunes library file is a database file just right click it and choose properties and under the type it should say database file
    hope this helps:)

  • New iphone 6+ and no means of moving my music library to the phone...

I haven't been this frustrated with my Mac/Phone setup in years.... I got a new iPhone 6+ today and am not seeing what I'd expect to see in the "Music" tab under the device vis-a-vis options. I do have iTunes Match and have tried it both turned on and off. What I want to do is move my extensive music library from my MacBook Pro to the new iPhone and the checkboxes I used to see on my iPhone 5 are no longer there.... That is to say, even though I subscribe to iTunes Match, i want the music to be "on" my phone when I'm in the air, on the lake or golf course outside of celldata or wifi range. What gives???? This is what I'm led to believe I "should" be seeing:
This is what I actually see when selecting "Music" under the Eric's iPhone 6+/Settings/Music tab:
    I
I turn "Match" off, then re-sync, and still see the same thing.... this is VERY frustrating!
How to I get my 100Gb library moved from my computer to my phone???? Is doing what I want to do somehow now mutually exclusive if you're an iTunes Match subscriber? It didn't seem to be with my iPhone 5 that was just taken out of service....

That's why I tried it both ways... I can't get to a point where it'll allow me to go back to manually transferring my playlists. Match doesn't do you a darned bit of good on an airplane or out in the sticks.....
Sounds like Match isn't for you (me neither).
Is there an iTunes setting for Match that you also need to turn off?  Or, what if you temporarily sign out of iCloud while you try to sync?

  • HT1329 I completed all the steps up until actually moving my music, because my iPod won't show up in finder? I've tried all the basic things (changing ports...etc.) but it still isn't showing up?

I have an older Ipod touch, but an Ipod touch nontheless. I'm also using the cable that came with an iphone but i'm told that makes no difference. Finally, i'm moving my music from PC to mac, but no longer have my music on the PC, seeing as to how I followed all the above steps, and now only have my music on my ipod. Idk why this is happening, but it's driving me crazy, so if someone could kindly help?

I finally managed to find my way round this problem by downgrading to iTunes 10.7 instead of iTunes 11 which seemed to be the main problem.
I deleted my iTunes 11 app, then downloaded again iTunes 10.7 from the apple previous downloads website, then used Pacifist to install it. No problems whatsoever! My iPod is now visible - again - and my whole music library is there.
So now I won't upgrade iTunes anymore!

  • How do I prevent itunes from moving my music from its original place ie folders in an external drive when I play music from itunes. I have all my music in artist folders and separated by MPG3/MPG4 and FLAC folder within the artist folder.

How do I prevent itunes from moving my music from its original place ie folders in an external drive when I play music from itunes. I have all my music in artist folders and separated by MPG3/MPG4 and FLAC folders within the artist folder and itunes moves the track/s whenever i try and load selected music to my ipod/iphone. I've tried to find some sort of preference to prevent this, but no joy? What am I missing?

Try opening iTunes preferences. Then click on advanced tab. Then uncheck "Copy files to iTunes media folder when adding to library." By default, iTunes copies music to its own media folder when you use iTunes to play the music.

    Close your iTunes,
    Go to command Prompt -
(Win 7/Vista) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES, right mouse click "Command Prompt", choose "Run as Administrator".
    (Win XP SP2 n above) - START/ALL PROGRAMS/ACCESSORIES/Command Prompt
In the "Command Prompt" screen, type in
    netsh winsock reset
    Hit "ENTER" key
    Restart your computer.
If you do get a prompt after restart windows to remap LSP, just click NO.
Now launch your iTunes and see if it is working now.
If you are still having these type of problems after trying the winsock reset, refer to this article to identify which software in your system is inserting LSP:

the best way would be to copy the entire iTunes folder (not just the iTunes music or media folder) from <MacintoshHD>/users/<yourname>/music on your Mac to the external, then launch iTunes while holding the option (⌥) key, click on choose library when prompted, and select the iTunes folder on the external.
I have pointed itunes towards external but still not working, driving me nuts!
that tells iTunes where to put new additions to your library, not where the content currently is.

  • ITunes moving files outside of the "music" directory.

I can't understand why, but whenever I open up iTunes it moves files outside of the "music" directory and into the "iTunes Media" directory.
The files it decides to move are random and it does not matter if I try to play or edit any of them, it happens as soon as iTunes is opened.
Any idea why this occurs and how I can prevent it?

I don't think you guys are understanding what I am asking.
Since iTunes 9 was released I have had my media "reorganized" and consolidated according to the "organize library" option in iTunes. My music library looked like this:
    ../iTunes/iTunes Media/Music/<artist name>/<album name>/<track>
What has been happening recently when I launch iTunes is that it starts moving my music to this structure:
    ../iTunes/iTunes Media/<artist name>/<album name>/<track>
iTunes is moving files automatically outside of my "music" folder into the root "iTunes Media" folder even though I have asked it to keep my folder organized / consolidated and have run "organize library" several times.
