Mpisend == # MPI sends operations OR # MPI messages sent?

Good day,
I'm learning to use Sun Studio 12u1 to profile MPI applications. As I tried to use er_print to print some MPI tracing metrics, I got confused with the mpisend metric. According to the Performance Analyzer Reference Manual 12u1 (http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/821-0304):
On pp. 111
mpisend = Number of MPI send operations
mpireceive = Number of MPI receive operations
whereas in Table 2.4 (pp. 32)_
MPI Sends = Number of point-to-point messages sent by MPI functions
MPI Receives = Number of point-to-point messages received by MPI functions
By looking at the analyzer timeline window, it seems natural to think that every MPI send operation sent one point-to-point message. In other words,
(+mpisend+ == # MPI sends operations) && (+mpisend+ == # MPI messages sent)
Please correct me if I'm wrong.
Thanks.

Analyzer attributes a "send" to the MPI function that initiates a message transfer, and a "receive" to the MPI function that completes the transfer.
As an example of message reception, suppose a buffer is set up with MPI_Irecv(), but message transfer is completed with MPI_Waitall(). The "receive" will be attributed to MPI_Waitall(). If a single call to MPI_Waitall() completes multiple messages, the mpireceive metric will reflect the number of message transfers completed, not the number of calls to MPI_Waitall().

  • Does OS X Mountain Lion not include MPI (Message Passing Interface)?

    Hi,
Does OS X Mountain Lion not include MPI (Message Passing Interface) as Lion did? I need that to compile CUDA 5.0 examples.
I'm running Mountain Lion 10.8 without any updates yet.

I take this statment from the link I posted
Note: Unlike most UNIX-based operating systems, OS X does not use a preallocated disk partition for the backing store. Instead, it uses all of the available space on the machine’s boot partition.
to basically mean it's limited only by the disk space.
    There is also this:
Both OS X and iOS include a fully-integrated virtual memory system that you cannot turn off; it is always on. Both systems also provide up to 4 gigabytes of addressable space per 32-bit process. In addition, OS X provides approximately 18 exabytes of addressable space for 64-bit processes. Even for computers that have 4 or more gigabytes of RAM available, the system rarely dedicates this much RAM to a single process.
To give processes access to their entire 4 gigabyte or 18 exabyte address space, OS X uses the hard disk to hold data that is not currently in use. As memory gets full, sections of memory that are not being used are written to disk to make room for data that is needed now. The portion of the disk that stores the unused data is known as the backing store because it provides the backup storage for main memory.

  • My wife and I each have an iPhone 4S. With the upgrade to ios6 all text messages sent from my phone show up on hers to include responses from my text. text that she sends from her phone appear as if from mine. How do we stop it?

My wife and I each have an iPhone 4S. Ever since the upgrade to ios6, text messages sent from my iPhone also appear on hers? All response to those text also show up on both devices. Likewise, text sent by her appear to others as having been sent from my iPhone. I have tried turning group messages off but nothing works. How can I correct this on both phones? Appreciate any help.

Please can someone tell me how  I can change this so when I send a mail from my phone and from the IPad that it reads from me.
You need a separate email address but you've already ruled out that solution.

Doubtful unless your carrier has an app that includes the option.
My carrier has an app that I can check current usage and past usage with a previous bill and pay the bill.

  • My phone's Mia, I go to find my iPhone from my iPad, it says locator has been disabled.  But when I send a message it says message sent?  I assume my battery is dead, but if it is would it still say msg sent?or device notconnected 2 wifi

My  iPhone 4 has disappeared and I know its batttery had died, and i probably put it down in the house, but its weird bc i should have found it by now-it's been  a week.  When I go to 'findmyphone' from iPad it says 'location services disabled' but I know I did not disable it bc I intentially like to have the option to locatevit since my kids are sticky fingered and snag it when I'm not looking a lot.     I've tried sending messages to it and  dinging it but i can't hear it ( Im guessing bc it's off) but it does says messages sent.  Does that mean it is on and connected to the network?  ?  I would have thought if it were off then, it would say phone is off; not connected to wifi etc message cannot be sent...trying to decide if someone (like cleaning lady) might have snagged it or if I keep sending messages to a dead phone that no one is getting?  Help!

Okay, you need to contact support definitely about what's going on. Here is a form that will send an e-mail into support for you:

As far as the prices, the difference is likely the laptop version is the SD version and the iPad one is available in HD. That's the only reason you'll see a price difference. It has nothing to do with the device with movies/movie rentals. Apps yes, these no.

  • TS3899 I send an e-mail message from my iPhone 5c and it shows up in Sent folder as a duplicate, 2 of the same e-mail messages sent at the same time.

I send an e-mail message from my iPhone 5c and it shows up in Sent folder as a duplicate message. 2 identical messages sent at the same time. What's up with this? Tried Apple Support by phone, and did a couple of troubleshoots, then my connection with Apple Support was cut off. Issue not resolved yet.

Did the mail get sent? Is the only issue the fact that it appears twice in the Sent folder?

  • You can't send SMS or text messages to a non-Apple phone (such as an Android, Windows, or BlackBerry phone), because the messages are sent as iMessage

You can't send SMS or text messages to a non-Apple phone (such as an Android, Windows, or BlackBerry phone), because the messages are sent as iMessage

Yes, you can. I do it many, many times a day. If you're trying to send a message to someone who used to have an iPhone and who didn't disable iMessage before switching phones, they will need to unregister their number with iMessage:
    https://selfsolve.apple.com/deregister-imessage
You also need to have SMS enabled with your carrier to send messages to non-iPhones.

  • Email seems to be sent, but it doesn't arrive. No 'unable to send' message, sent items and draft folders are empty. The mail disappears.

Email seems to be sent, but it doesn't arrive. No 'unable to send' message, sent items and draft folders are empty. The mail disappears. I tried to fully turn off the iPad and have it restart. But it doesn't go off. I keep seeing the small white 'turning wheel' untill the battery is gone. After that, it works again (and so does the e-mail). This happens about every week. What can I do?

*there's no reason to be paranoid*
    Says Mulder .
Anyway, as I mentioned, I don't use any sync-able email, just a very plain-jane POP email provider. iSync reports no devices and has nothing in its log, which matches my never having installed anything in need of syncing.
The thing is, if Mail says its sending something when nothing was ever sent, that's a largish bug whether it is actually sending something or isn't, and there isn't really enough info here to know which of those are the case. Maybe Mail just displays "Sending" because an attempt to do something reasonable is timing out, maybe it does an innocuous and normal POP thing using very confusing nomenclature, or maybe it's really trying to send something which has a wrong flag or something. There isn't really enough info to know what is going on, so I was hoping someone could identify the symptoms.

  • My wife, daughter and I have iPhones. We all have iMessage and Send Read Receipts activated. All the messages sent between the three of us are blue except those that my wife sends to me. They are green. Can anyone explain why.

My wife, daughter and I have iPhones with iMessage and Send Read Receipts activated. All the messages sent between the three of us are blue however, when my wife messages me, the message appears in green on her iPhone. Can anyone explain why.

Because some kind of error occured.  This is only from her iPhone to your iPhone?  Whenever she sends a message to any other iPhone, it is sent as blue?  And when anyone else sends you a message from an iPhone, it sends as blue?

  • Mail sending 2 messages for every 1 sent ("sending 2 of 2 messages")

hi... did a search, but it was a tough one to search for.
an odd problem: mail says it's sending 2 messages for each message i send. for instance, i type a note to my mom (because i'm a good son) and hit send on the one email... the status bar at the bottom left of the panel says: "sending message: 2 of 2" or "outgoing messages: 2 of 2"...
however, in checking the sent folder, only 1 message sent.
it does not do this all of the time, but about 1 out of every 5 messages, it seems...
i'm worried about malware, spyware, etc... would there be such a thing? why is mail acting weird?

There are no viruses for Mac OS X, and no malware can be installed without you providing your Admin password, so you don't have that, either.
This is normal behavior, because you have an IMAP email account. In order for everything to be in sync, the mail server and your Mac must communicate very frequently, and that includes whenever you send or receive email. The message may say one thing, but unless you see multiple, identical messages being sent or received, it's not happening. There's no such thing as invisible email.

  • On an i Phone 4, how do you reply only to the sender of a text message which is sent to a group of people?

On an I phone 4, how do you respond only to the sender of a text message which has been sent to several people> Our replies always go to all the recipients of the original text. Thanks

Start a new text message only to that person, not in the group text.

  • Did the update yesterday on my 4S. Now when I send a text or Imessage, there is no message sent sound.

I updated my 4S yesterday. Now there is no sound indicating that a text or Imessage was sent. Even when a new message come in. Not the message alert tone, but the sound it makes when you leave a conversation open and a message comes in under that conversation. Best way I can describe it. I have looked through all the setting and have been unable to fix it.

I found the problem. If you set your text alert tone to none. The phone will not make a message sent sound. I set it to Tritone and it started make the sound again.

  • When i send a text (imessage) to my girlfriends iphone I get the same message sent to mine

When I text (imessage) my girlfriends iphone I keep getting the exact same message sent to my iphone at the same time, how do I stop it doing this. It only started recently. I must have changed a setting but Ive only had the phone a week so not sure. HELP

If you dont want to recieve eachother messages, then the best solution is for one of you to sign out of the apple id in Settings, itunes and appstore, tap on the apple id, tap sign out, then create a new apple id for that person and resign back in to itunes with the new apple id. This will alleviate your problem.
