  • MSI GT683 questions?

Hello all, I recently purchased my first gaming laptop the MSI GT683, here are my specs:
    CPU Intel® Core™ i5-2430M Processor (2.40 GHz)
    - OS Genuine Windows® 7 Home Premium (MSI recommends upgrade to Genuine Windows® 7 Professional)
    - Chipset Intel HM67
    - 8GB Memory DDR3 1333 MHz ,Slot : 4
    - LCD Size 15.6" LED 1366x768 resolution
    - Graphics nVidia GeForce GTX 560M
    - Graphics VRAM 1.5GB GDDR5
    - HDD: 750GB HDD (7200rpm)
Ok so I read the sticky, and found some useful information.
My questions are, and please cut me some slack, as I'm not a complete air head with laptops and their insides but am not too clued up on them.
    1. When i get my laptop, whats the first thing i should look to be doing? Updating drivers, firmware?
    2. Also from the sticky i found that MSI have a downloads page with a "Live update 5" which scans your computer for out of date drivers which is very helpful for me, my question is does this scan my laptop for all drivers like, GPU, CPU and others?
    3. Should i look to buy a cooling pad? As I've read a few posts saying it can get a tad hot.
    4. I also read that for the GTX560m to get full performace it needs a 500W power supply, but am is this for actual PC's? As with this laptop i am provided with an AC Adapter 180W. Should i look to be buying a more powerful one or is this not possible?
Honestly, any help would be massively appreciated, Thanks.

Your laptop will come preinstalled with Windows and all required drivers.

Don't use LiveUpdate. If you need to update any drivers, just download them manually. Drivers don't go 'out-of-date' like fresh food. If everything works fine as it is, then you don't really need to update anything.

That's your choice. As long as you keep your notebook clean and free from dust, it should operate within normal parameters.

You're looking at requirements for desktop GPUs. Your notebooks AC adapter will be sufficient, you won't gain anything from replacing it.

  • [MSI-GT683 R] Won't Work Properly

I have this problem in my Laptop MSI GT683 R It won't turn on beyond the Initial Start up and automatically restarts after a while(Doesn't read the windows screen) anyone knows how to fix this? I can't even use Del or F3 or Alt F10 :/, If someone does please help

You meant the laptop cannot boot up properly and will reboot again but cannot go beyond the windows welcome screen?
If there is new device attached to your laptop, Maybe a new SSD or memoory, remove it.
If there are new update or drivers installed recently, remove it and roll back to the original version when you can log on windows. Or go to save mode to delete them.

  • MSI GT683 Problem Installing Graphic Drivers

Hi to all, I need help about my laptop MSI GT683...I have bought a graphic card because my is broken, that is Nvidia GTX560M but I have a problem: when I install Windows and I try to install the driver the screen became multicolor and I can't do anything else. I seen that when the site of the nvidia auto reconizes the graphic card the model showned is Nvidia GTX560 SE...Another problem is that in the bios the model of the notebook is GT680R and I don't know why...can you help me?

What means "multicolor"? Do you have any picture of this symptom you described?
The model name in the BIOS depends on the graphic card you installed. Some models re-use the same barebone of the older models and their difference is only the graphic card, so MSI may only provide one version of BIOS but will automatically detect the graphic card to change the model name in the BIOS.
I'm not sure what's the problem you are facing but you can ask for help and contact local authorized service points.

  • MSI GT683 R freezing

Hello, i have had my MSI gt683 R for 6 months, and a couple of days ago it freezed when i was downloading a video. It was 1 hour after i started using the computer that morning.
Then the same day, i was browsing some pages with firefox and again it freezed. And this morning again while i was doing nothing, i switched on the computer, went to take a shower and when i was back it was freezed again.
I usually play 1-2 hours day, and the freezing started after i was 1 week without using the computer as i was on a trip. Any ideas? or i should just contact the shop to get a new one?

My GT683 just started doing that this week. And as you said, it happens when I am doing simple things like checking email or browsing the web. Great laptop, this is the first issue I have had with it since I got it 4 months ago.
Ditto, and with the GT683r discontinued as well as little in the way of software updates I'm kind of feeling abandoned. As well as the above now my NVidia 560m is starting to act weird

  • Regarding Upgrading MSI GT683 Laptop

    Hi,
    I purchased MSI GT683 in November 2011.
Now thinking to upgrade this laptop by adding a SSD to it and installing Windows 7 in it.
But now the problem is, i don't know whether it is possible to add SSD & install Win 7 in it because MSI didn't provide any OS DVD and only have recovery partition in my HDD. So, even if i can add a SSD it is not possible to install Windows 7 in it.
    System Configuration:
    Intel Core i7 2670QM processor 2.2GHz
    GeForce GTX 560M 1.5GB GDDR5
    15.6" FHD, Anti-Glare (1920*1080)
    640 GB HDD
    8GB of DDR3 RAM
    Super Multi-DVD Drive
    9-cell battery
    Win7 Home Premium
Could you please help me how to add a SSD in this laptop & install OS in it.
    Regards,
    Manoj

  • MSI GT683 -Graphics problem = computer fried several times

    hello..
first i would like to say sorry for my bad english.
i brought a MSI GT683 for little over 2 years ago because i wanted to play D3. the first 3-4 months i was playing battlefield3 because d3 was not release yet and the laptop was working with no problems. when i startet playing diablo3 i startet to experience hard FPS drop. from runing 100+ FPS it would drop to 5 fps for 10 secs every minute. after 2 weeks the laptop just shut down and i sent it to repair shop. they told me the grapiccard was fried. so after 1 month i got it back and began playing D3 and it worked fine for 2 weeks until it startet FPS drops again and 2 weeks later the laptop shut down again and again i sent it to the repair shop. and they told me the grapiccard and memory was fried. when i got it back 1 month later i decided to not play diablo3 again (what actually was the reason i brought the laptop) after the insurance ran out i fear to play games with average grapic
i have never had an MSI before this. but i used so much money on this laptop so its hard for me to see my little brothers  6-7 year old  computer runs better than my expensive laptop.. this expercience with MSI gaming laptops has really disapointed me because my friends said i should buy an MSI because they where build for gaming.. i feel i have paied 1500 euros to play league of legends
does anyone with the same laptop (MSI GT683) have had any problems like that ?
    Regards
    Daniel
    a dissapointed gamer :(

If you have reason to believe that the repair center did not repair or diagnose the laptop properly, then you have the full right to claim the repair under warranty even when Warranty is expired, up to 6 years after Purchase in Europe. The issue however is, that 6 months after purchase the burden of proof lies with the buyer.
In other words, if you can proof that the problem with your laptop is not caused by you(mishandling, user error, etc) then the retailer has to take it in for repair under warranty.
So the question is, have you been using the laptop on surfaces that it is not intended for? IN example, are you using the laptop on your bed, your lap etc while its venting and heating ports are closed off? Thus not allowing any fresh air to come in?
Have you meddled with the fan speeds of the laptop?
Edit : Take in mind though that this EU directive is very hard to proof and stores, unless you literally press them with a copy of said directive, will try to get out of it and even if you show them directive they may still opt to go with the countries sales of goods act.
edit 2 : The directive in question is 1999/44/EC.

  • MSI GT683 Cooling - Thermal Pads and Mod

    Hi,
I have a MSi GT683 notbook. Sometime ago i upgraded the GPU (https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=168610) and because of that i started to have some problems that turned out to be caused by the power supply not being strong enough (https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=172580).
Now i bought a new power supply but i am afraid that it will get my temps too high, so i want to do a maintenance of the notebooks cooling (change thermal paste and thermal pads) and maybe mod it a little bit.
But i have some doubts that i need some help with.
First, what thermal pad thickness should i use on the GPU? I changed the GPU from a 560M to a 675M and bought the appropriate heat sink.
Second, can i cut a hole in the underside of the notebook so that the cooling fan can get more air?
This is where i am thinking of cutting the hole:
It will be a small hole, that i will cover with a mesh to keep dust out, directly above the fan.
And i am going to buy this notebook cooler (http://www.coolermaster.com/mobile/notepal-series/notepal-u-stand/) which i probably going to mod changing and adding more powerful and quieter fans.
    What do you guys think?

actually cutting a hole under there is useless w.o cooling pad but if you can build up or find a good cooling pad which directly push cool air thru that hole then it makes some changes.... i have went thru lots of forums, sites and any other informative places about  modding notebook cooler and found out that best cooling method is that little bit alluminum + cooling pad + remove the whole lower case will give you 50-60C when your on full load.... so i tested out whichever method i have read and heard... adding alluminum on the both thermal parts on gpu and cpu w.o removing lower case and putting cooling pad under it gave me higher temp than normal... so i remove the lower case and put it on cooling pad 10 - 15C decrease than normal but i dont use my nb as station so its not for me... then i removed alluminum blocks and put the lower case back and put on a cooling pad gave me 5-6C lower temp... then i drilled some holes where you are planning to cut holes with 0.3 and put it on cooling pad then i got 9-13C lower temp normal and i tested it w.o cooling pad then i got exactly same temp as before cutting hole on the lower case... so i think that cutting hole under fan makes less air circulate is bias understanding and for my case its proven for me... so i am advising you to cut a hole there but not a big one use 0.3 drill that will give you some manufacture like clean cuts...
also refer to this fix http://forum.notebookreview.com/sager-clevo/674825-improving-p170em-7970m-gpu-cooling-performance-foiled.html
i know msi fan is not loose as clevo but it helped me lower some 2 3C

  • MSI GT683 graphics card lagging GTX 560M

Okay, so i bought my GT683 back at July 2012.
a month ago, my laptop started having BSOD, i went to the MSI store and have them check my laptop, and they fixed it, they said that the RAM was causing the BSOD and they put in new RAM.
When i got my laptop back, the graphics card started to show bad performance.
Even NBA2k13 runs very badly, which is a game that should be running real smooth on my specs.
I even lag on GTA San Andreas.
What do you guys think is the problem? You guys think i need to go get my laptop and bring it to the MSI store again?
    Thanks
and oh yeah, when i click on the Turbo, it doesn't light up too, even though i installed the updated driver for it..

  • MSI GX623 Resolution

My laptop native resolution is 1680x1050, i want it change to 1440x900. With old MSI VGA drivers laptop supported 1440x900, but when i instaled nevest drivers from ATI resolution dsnt show in windows 7, it changed to 1400x1050 and when i use this res on sides appear black lines.. How can i change it to 1440x900?

I found solution in another forum.. It's worked for me
Just add a line to one of the DALNonStandardModesBCD lines within the following path.
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Video\{28EB637D-0B05-40E2-9B10-67836FF468A5}\0000]
(The big number at the end before the 4 zero's is random but you should be able to find yours, if you have installed multiple versions of catalysts you will have loads of different ones so make sure you modify the correct one by looking in your catalyst control panel at the "2d driver file path" entry within "information center").
For example I have just edited the DALNonStandardModesBCD1 entry to look like the following example which added 1280x900 at 60hz.
    07,20,04,80,00,00,00,60,
    07,20,04,80,00,00,00,75,
    07,20,04,80,00,00,00,85,

  • MSI GP60 Resolution/driver problem

I bought my MSI Laptop a few weeks ago and then decided I wanted to get an ssd. I installed an OS (Windows 8.1) on my New SSD and everything seemed to work fine, except one thing. The Graphics is not like it used to be. According to the screen resolution options my pc has a resolution of 1920x1080, but the Graphics is a lot worse than before. I installed all the drivers but I still do not know what the problem is. I went to the nVidia options and double checked that I used the nvidia card instead of the Integrated Graphics, but still everything is kind of "bigger" and more blurry than before the installation.
Here are a couple of screenshots I took that might help you diagnose the problem I'm having.
http://gyazo.com/b9e1f805b3d51c5e86494a170edb5f52  - According to this Picture it is the intel HD Graphics that is taking care of the Laptop display, might this be the problem? If so, how do I change it?
http://gyazo.com/2bd91dd9d14d836998dab9a9ab8f5bef  - Here is something else I find weird. Whenever I'm on my desktop the Graphics are decent, but whenever I got to My Computer or use the settings/setup of a program, all the text becomes blurry.
Help is greatly appreciated!  (BTW using internet Explorer, so there might be typos)

I am on Windows XP PRO SP3 and i want to switch to Win 7 PRO SP1 but i am not willing to do that yet because of this problem.
If you switch to Windows 7, the driver is already included, so nothing to worry about there.
    Quote
I got the CD with the driver but is from 2006 when i bought the PC and you can figure... driver is damn old.
Your board is old too. Doesn't matter if the driver is 'old', you can still install and use it.

  • MSI GT683 vs MSI GX600: USB noise and its effects on touchscreen devices

    Hello friends,
I would like to share my findings regarding USB charging noise on both GT683 and GX600.
The GT683 is a powerhouse if I ever saw one and using and application called i-charger, it can charge an iPad and eliminate the "Not Charging" problem. But there's a problem to it. Charger Noise.
Plugging and iPod Touch Fourth Gen in of the USB ports degrades the accuracy of the touch screen. Plugging a PS Vita in any of the ports results in completely unresponsive touchscreen. PS Vita needs to have a responsive touch screen to copy multimedia files from a PC to the Vita.
I was able to over come this by using a 10 port USB hub (which requires power), unplugged the power adapter, plugged in a notebook cooler, a battery than can be charged using a USB and a bluetooth receiver for my keyboard and mouse. The reason I did this is to remove excess noise by consuming excess microAmps.
I never... ever once encountered this with my MSI GX600. I plugged in my iPod and PS Vita in my aging laptop but it still worked. That damn notebook is hard to put down and I still keep it. Never thought that MSI would build usb ports on new laptops in such a poor and cheap condition.
I really don't know if there are long term effects on this but I highly recommend not to charge any of your devices on your laptop. Go buy an expensive branded charger if possible.

  • Need help with fixing msi gt683 laptop

Hello. I have a GT 683 R that i bought a couple of months back, i recently did a factory restore on it and afterwards i didn't have the disk to finish the process, so i started messing with the settings and everything i reset the raid to non raid and now i'm stuck on a screen that says "Reboot and Select proper Boot device or insert boot media in selected boot device and press a key".
I tried using the recovery again and it wouldn't even boot to that menu, i hit F11 to try to boot from disc but all it does is go to the reboot and select proper boot device screen.
I need a lot of help on this because i'm not really good with computers.

if you switch from AHCI or IDE, back to RAID in the BIOS (by pressing DEL when the MSI logo appears on the screen, and going to "advanced options")
does it boot into the recovered system ?
switching into/out of RAID mode, requires you to use the RAID setup screen to configure the RAID when it's installed, by pressing ctrl + i when you see the RAID screen just after the MSI logo screen on booting up each time.
as for recovery, you may have more options depending on if you break the RAID, or if you have a backup of windows 7 or a way to copy the ISO to a USB. or just put in the recovery DVD's (mine weren't too helpful)
    i.e. http://forum.notebookreview.com/msi/672814-need-help-installing-ssd-gt683r-raid-0-a-2.html
switching out of RAID mode is tricky because the controller makes small changes to the HDD's so they are recognised as RAID.
typically, windows won't let you see the drive if the flag is set, but you can wipe the setting out using backup/clone software or low-level tools that bypass the normal windows settings to blank the drive.
or you can use the RAID setup screen to remove the drives from the array, which is quite a lot faster and less effort, but you will lose all the data on the drives in both situations when switching from RAID, to 2 drives.
