MSI GX70 Destroyer

Hi, I am thinking about NTB GX70 Destroyer. Can anybody tell if I can add another disk, like SSD? And if yes, anybody know, if I can add this SSD by my self, or I must send NTB to MSI dealer in my country? And last think, if nobody knows. Can you pls tell me the contact how to ask MSI, I realy tryed but find nothink. :D
THX much
Jeez

I'm not 100% certain what the GX70's have space for. But...
https://forum-en.msi.com/faq/uploads/170/MS-176K_Disassembly_guide.pdf
On page 7 you can clearly see that there is space for 2 x 2.5" HDD's. So you could install another 2.5" HDD/SSD if the slot is open.

  • MSI GX70 Destroyer - issues

    Hi
I have some problems with my MSI GX70 Destroyer. I've had it for about half a year now and I'm very much dissapointed in it's
gaming performances. I contacted MSI support with this issue and they told me to update my vbios and gave me a link.
This hasn't resolved my problem, and furthermore, my touchkeys (see image, the buttons for cooler booster, keyboard lighting...)
    don't work anymore.
Can anyone help me out please? Thanks!

*sorry if this is in the wrong section.

Not sure if your native EC firmware is 176KEMS1.XXX or 176KEMS2.XXX but you can manually try to flash to another version. Be noted that this should be done in dos with the flash tool.

Use the command ene_030 /flash -b34c -e 176KEMS2.507. Check again those function keys work or not. If not, this could be a HW issue.

  • MSI GX70 Destroyer - How to configure it to play games

    Hello all,
My brother purchased a GX70 so he'd be able to play some games when he's away, unfortunately all he is able to play are low demand games (Civ V, Age of Empires etc.). Battlefield 4 runs between 1-20fps on medium settings and low resolution. He's had it sent off under warranty and been through the MSI technical support but neither have been sucessfull.
I had my first look yesterday, the spec seems to be standard 2.5 (2.6?) ghz quad core AMD cpu, 8gb RAM and a graphics card of which I can't recall. All I know is it's 2gb and should run at least some games.
I've tried searching round the internet and found one common problem - the GPU not running the games and working off the intergrated CPU graphics instead. There were a few pointers to try and make it work but I'm not sure I have.
The GPU fluctuated from 0-60% use but sat at 0% for the most part, temp was sat at 40C so I figured it was probably idle.
I tried changing the power plan settings to max performance all round through windows and catalyst. I ran BF 4 again to see if anything had changed but it was so choppy I couldn't really tell. The GPU temp was at 80C but it still fluctuated from 0-60% use, just a little more frequently than last time.
I thought the CPU frequency was a little low to be playing games like BF4 but according to various reviews it should be fine. Is there a way to boost the frequency? I know some have a turbo boost feature.
Any help would be appreciated, this has been a problem for months and he's feeling pretty low about it.
    Cheers

Radeon R9 M290X is the same as  8970m.
So it is. Still no idea why it doesn't work though, I tried playing around with the graphics in day-z, h1z1 and bf4 last night. All settings to low including the resolution and it was still horrendously choppy.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Touch keys (on MSI GX70)

    Hello
My touchkeys don't work anymore (cooler booster, keyboard lighting...) after having updated my vbios, which MSI support
told me to do because I had a performance issue. (MSI GX70 Destroyer)
Does anyone know what to do? I'm not getting a reply from MSI.
If the touchkeys are broken, is there any other way to launch the cooler booster?

    Hi, thanks for replying!
    Dear customer,
Please update VBIOS via our website:
    http://www.msi.com/support/nb/GX70-3CC-Destroyer.html#down-firmware
This was the first email I got from MSI, the link leads to the MSI page where you can update your Firmware.
I updated to 176KEMS1.507 which I believe is correct.
After a week I got a new reply from them, telling my to 1. Reinstall SCM 2. Restore system
    Did both, didn't work.

  • Wrong graphics card in my GX70 Destroyer 3CC

I bought a new MSI GX70 destroyer model# GX70 3CC-203US and everywhere it says that this notebook has a Radeon R9 m290x graphics card, like on the MSI website, the box, and the stickers on the laptop itself. However, on actual system config and device manager it shows "Radeon HD8970m" as the graphics card, which to my understanding is not the same card as the R9 m290x.
    Is this normal at all?

Like Pegasus say, use the latest vga driver from msi website should solve the problem.
    ATI graphics driver(131.52) http://download.msi.com/nb_drivers/vga/ati_r9_131.52_0x7a41faed_w878100.zip
If you're using the generic graphics driver from AMD, then it'll show the wrong graphics name in the device manager.

    Hello
So i have got this laptop today and all is well
I have 1 little gripe though, in the CCC settings in the icon tray it always shows the integrated GPU( 8560G) and not the dedicated GPU ( R9-M290X) ?
Both GPUs are showing in device manager
i can see by running games and using GPUz that the dedicated GPU is working though, i tried Diablo III and was getting 50ish FPS so i know the dedicated GPU is defiantly running.
Im new to gaming laptops so im not sure if this is intended by always showing the intergrated GPU in the taskbar with CCC?
Will i always see the integrated GPU in the taskbar even though i know im using the dedicated GPU R9-M290X when running games?
    Thanks for reading

    Hi, kmufc77,
The GX Series laptop design is like that. AMD CCC will automatically Crossfire your APU's graphic with dedicated GPU if the game supports it. You can also always set which program to run with Crossfire settings and which one to run basic APU's graphic.
Do note that not all software support Crossfire configuration. If software having problem running using Crossfire configuration, switch back to basic graphic. FireFox and Flash Player doesn't support Crossfire (What a bummer, your online flash game can be so ultimate if it can run using Crossfire configuration). Also, almost all Windows Store app doesn't support Crossfire configuration. The only few I can get the game run in Crossfire mode is Pinball FX2 and Adera.
    Have fun gaming.

  • Win 8.1 update with MSI GX70 issues

    Hello people.
I recently updated my MSI GX70-3BE from win 8 to win 8.1 pro (update from store, not clean install), along with numbers of new driver supplied by MSI (VGA, SCM, killer network, etc.) and BIOS (w8_E176KAMS.50D) + EC (w8_176KEMS1.505)
Now I notice 2 problems after the update
    1. Bluetooth headphone won't connect if I turn bluetooth off and on from SCM window, and my headphones also disappeared from playback device in control panel > sound. This never happened when I was using win 8. The ways to reconnect with any bluetooth device again are, first, disable then re-enable "Realtek Bluetooth 4.0+High Speed Chip" in Device Manager, another way to do the job is to restart the machine. This is very annoying because I can't use SCM alone to turning bluetooth on/off.
PS. I use SCM from windows 8 as the new one for win 8.1 doesn't has trackpad control, but tried both version and still get the problem
    2. Just after I updated Bios and EC, I used Samsung magician to observed my SSD (samsung 840 pro 128GB) but it shown that my SSD is running in Sata II 3Gbs/s which never happened (again) in Win 8. I also used other program to see if it's running only 3 Gb/s and benchmark results dropped by half from those with Win 8. I tried to updated firmware&EC and AMD catalyst control but that didn't help.
Does anybody ever experienced anything like this??  Please help. Any suggestion is welcome.
    Thanks you

This is really the first I've seen any issues regarding this. The bluetooth is especially strange. The best I can say regarding that issue is to contact MSI about it.
    >>How to contact MSI.<<
The Samsung 840 Pro was very troublesome on most of the GT60/GT70 notebooks, as it wouldn't run at SATA3 speeds on those, at all, ever. No matter what Firmware/BIOS/EC or driver you used, it just wouldn't work. No one ever figured out why, most just shy'ed away from using it because it was a problem and didn't perform as well over time compared to other drives. Perhaps try checking in the bios to see what it's recognized as before Windows boots to see if it shows up at SATA3 or SATA2 speeds?

  • [Solved] Network problems with MSI GX60 Destroyer, killer newtork LAN and wireless

Hi, I bought a MSI GX60 Destroyer 2 weeks ago, and I realized that my internet was a little slow, you don't realize in the web but when downloading it doesn't perform how it should, I tested the speed now with wireless and I got 5 mb/s, and I have 20 mb/s in my house (I also tested with cellphones and other pc's), with LAN the speed was normal, so I saw some forums about the Killer network, I tried to change the drivers but nothing, the wireless is limited to 5 mb/s and now my LAN too.... please help, my phone has 4x better internet than my GAMING Laptop.
Also the Atheros drivers are a pain in the ass it's really hard to remove them.
I'm now with the drivers without the Management app.

    Hi Tzin,
Which graphics driver are you using?
The quick stream is installed on the notebook with the generic graphics driver from the AMD website.
If you install the AMD's generic graphics driver, you'll find the quick stream program in your Uninstall programs window.(Control Panel> Uninstall a program)
Hi hch , i only can find the "amd cystal manager " under the unintall a program , so when i click into in then only saw the device but dont see the quick stream .

  • MSI GX70-3BE Unlock BIOS

    Hi Svet,
I have the same problem as other folks.
I have MSI GX70-3BE and American Megatrends Inc. E176KAMS.L0H, 12-9-2014
I have tried to modify BIOS and the flash it by myself, but I'm afraid I'v got "a brick".
After modifying BIOS the flasher program told me "security! wrong file header!", but i insisted, by using keys "/capsule and /recovery" in flash command. So I flashed with that file. And now notebook has only 2 function that work - ON/OFF.
Of corse, I want to try one more thing - it's disconnect BIOS battery, so I have misery hope.
Sorry for possible mistakes. My English is not first language. I think - I also need the unlocked  BIOS file to flash.
    Can you help me? Please.

Hi! Ofcorse I know that modified bios file in this situation will not help, but I'm going to service shop. So there they gonna to unconnect bios chip and reflash it separatly. And I think at this point there is 2 ways: reprogram chip with default file or modified one. So even if they will refuse to reflasf chip with modified file, later, I could do this myself. Thank you for your attention to my situation.☺

Are you one of the numbers is the contrast of the display is higher battery is bad. What can I do?
I have this problem in Windows 7 and Windows 8.1. The driver is the latest version.
3 :  How hard Ssd raid, is how to install Windows? I do whatever I want to install Windows from my driver! Where can I get the drivers?
    Thank you

Ok, I got word back from my MSI rep. Apparently, it's a limitation on the RAM that is used for the video card. Other laptops that use the HD8970M or R9 M290X that are not MSI suffer from this as well. This is an AMD goof-up, not MSI's, so don't get mad at MSI. The rep said that they tried to overclock to 1200MHz, but got BSOD's all the time. The rep assures me that the gaming experience is minimally affected (so nothing you'd notice, like 1-2 FPS difference)

  • MSI GX70 and SSD causing boot loop

    Hi,
I've bought the MSI GX70 laptop 2 weeks ago which suits my needs pretty well.
It does seem to have some issues with SSD, not sure if they are known issues yet...
Powering up the laptop results in a boot loop 9 out of the 10 times. As soon as it passes the POST it reboots instead of starting Windows.
If I remove the SSD from the second slot (the only one that is available next to the existing HD) it boots from the stock HD fine, no issues.
As soon as I install the SSD again, it's starting to loop again.
So I thought, let's replace the stock HD with the SSD (switch connectors) but it doesn't even recognize the SSD disk as bootable device if I do so.
I'm sure the boot order and settings are fine, played around with them to be sure.
There is a workaround to get the system started.
While the laptop is in the boot loop (starting up, showing the MSI logo and doing that over and over again) you have to keep pressing the DEL button to enter the bios, hit escape to quit the bios once you're in without changing and saving anything and it boots up Windows fine.
    The SSD is a PNY XLR8 120gb
I'm sure the HD is fine because it came out of the previous laptop without issues.
    Any thought on the above?
    Thanks
    /Nick

I guess my real question here is are you 100% certain that at this very second, the SSD is in fact 100% ok? I'm only asking as after reading a few reviews, almost 50% of them (granted, they are reviews, and people usually really only review things when they are bad...) were showing that they had to return this very SSD because it went bad.
That's really the only thing that comes to mind. This uses the very common Sandforce chipset that quite a few SSD's have and work perfectly fine with. So I can't really comment more than that.

  • MSI GX70 switch graphic cards ?

    Hi,
I just bought a MSI GX70 with the AMD radeon 8970M
My laptop is running on the integrated cards(Radeon 8650) and not the dedicated(Radeon 8970M)
I tried to disable the integrated but the laptops still don't run on the dedicated cards!
My games bug and are not as smooth as i expected and i don't understand how!
    Help me please!
    Thank you

slap03:There are 2 cards in the laptop, 1 for normal desktop use which is lower power, and 1 for gaming that is a dedicated card. The intent is to increase the laptops battery life while still having the ability to have a high performance system.
That being said, most likely the laptop isn't enabling the dedicated card when you play a game.
Make sure that in the Enduro/AMD drivers, that they recognize the game, and are setup to USE the dedicated card for those games, instead of the integrated card.
