[MSI MegaStick 256] Windows 98 Driver

Hi:
I've seen that no Windows 98 Driver (not Windows 98 SE) is included. Is there a plan to develop it?
If not, i'll try to develop it by myself, but I don't know if there is a legal problem doing it.
Thanks in advance and excuse me if my english was poor :-)

FX400 is not among the notebooks verified to work with Win8 (http://event.msi.com/2012/windows8/index.html). Therefor MSI won't provide any drivers or support for using Win 8 on this computer.

  • MSI 660 TI PE Display Driver crashes

    First, here is my system.
i5-2500k Processor (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115072) (Processor is overclocked to 4.3ghz, temp on it never goes over 45-50°C though)
MSI Geforce GTX 660TI PE Video card (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127696)
    Asus P8Z68-V Pro\Gen 3 Motherboard (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131790)
Corsair HX series HX650 Power Supply (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139012)
    4x4GB of G.Skill Ram (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231314)
When my old MSI P67A-GD55 Motherboard bricked a month ago, instead of waiting on RMA I went ahead and got the Asus board, at the same time I went ahead and upgraded my old Asus GTX 560TI card to the MSI GTX 660TI card. Since the upgrade, I am constantly getting display driver crashes "Display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding and has successfully recovered." when playing games. Guild Wars 2 and Starcraft 2 are the only ones I've had time to try, but both consistently give driver crashes after awhile (sometimes as soon as 15-20 mins, sometimes takes several hours of gameplay).
Here is the list of things I've already tried:
-First, I tried the most recent Nvidia drivers. Still crashes.
-Second, I tried running driver sweeper, removing all old drivers and reinstalling. Still crashes.
-Third, I tried disabling TDR in the Win7 registry. Still crashes.
-Fourth, I really ramped up the auto fan speeds. So far it hasn't crashed while doing this, but I can't do it for too long because the fans get so loud that it annoys me greatly.
-Fifth, I thought it might be an old Motherboard driver conflict of some sort, so I completely formated my OS hard drive and reinstalled Windows 7. Still getting crashes.
-Sixth, I used driver sweeper again and rolled back to the last official MSI drivers (the ones from October). Still getting crashes.
I really don't think the card is overheating. The most recent crash happened tonight after playing Starcraft 2 for about 20 minutes, and the temperature of the card never got over 60°C. That's why even with the extremely ramped up fan speeds I tried, I think if I used them long enough, the driver would still crash.
The power supply is the same as what I used with the 560TI and it didn't have these issues. And from my understanding, the 560TI consumed more power than the 660TI.
At this point, I'm at my wits end. The only thing else I know to try is swapping out the old 560TI in with the new motherboard or waiting for my old motherboard to come back from RMA and trying the 660TI in it. Though that means rebuilding the case, uninstalling the new mobo drivers and installing the old mobo drivers and authenticating Windows. Doing all of that is going to kill most of a day and I really only want to do that if I absolutely have to.
I've had such limited time for troubleshooting the card, that I'm regrettably past the 30day limit on RMA replacements to Newegg. So unfortunately that means I'm looking at an RMA directly to MSI and that takes about a month. Before I do that, does anyone have any advice on something to try that might be the cuplrit or can help determine the culprit? I can't find any details in the Event Viewer as to what caused the driver crash. Just that it has stopped responding and has recovered. I wish it could tell me if there was a loss of power, or anything. Power Management Mode is set to prefer maximum performance btw.
Btw, as a brief description of what happens. The screen goes black, and then comes back and the game is running very slowly. There will also usually be a popup above the taskbar saying that the driver had crashed. I keep the MSI Afterburner info window open in my second monitor and Power usage never goes over 80%, GPU Usage is usually around 95-99%. Core Clock and Memory clock drop to about 324mhz (which is what it idles at) temporarily during the crash. GPU Usage of course dips to very low levels while the driver is crashing, as well.
Oh and in an added twist, I've run Kombuster several times. Burn-in test DirectX 11 1920x1600 8xMSAA as long as five hours, and the display driver has never crashed. I'll probably turn it on, and disable the computer's sleep and display off tonight and let it run for about 8-9 hours and see what happens. That's one thing that throws me off, if it's a hardware defect, wouldn't Kombuster cause it to crash?
edit-Here is a screenshot of the Afterburner monitor during a crash while playing Starcraft 2. The huge dip in the bars that I have the cursor over is when the crash occured.

Well with the Power% limited to 75%, I just had another crash in Starcraft 2. Temp was only at 56°C just before the crash.
Here is a shot of the Afterburner Hardware Monitor when it crashed:
Unfortunately I do not have another PC to test the card in. And I don't know anyone around here with a system that the card could work in.
If I swapped out the 660TI with my old 560TI and I do not get any crashes, wouldn't that indicate it's the 660TI's fault and I'd need to RMA since the 560TI is a more power hungry card?

  • How to restore my MSI MegaStick 511 MP3 software??

    Hi,
I accidentally formatted my MSI MegaStick 511. All the software inside are gone and now I can only use it as a normal storage pen drive and can't listen to MP3 nor radio station  . I have lost the MSI package/cover box as I was told there is a CD inside to restore back the MP3 software.
I really wish to have my Mp3 software installed back in my MI Megastick but I don't know the correct way to do so     . Can anyone help me on this?

  • Megastick 256 - Yes or No

    Hya
Looking at getting one of these for my birthday. Wife says limit £100 so i have decided on the Megastick 256 (will be useful for work CAD Tech).
Worries me seeing so many bad things, and no good points.
I have the Nforce2 Ultra Chipset on my K7N2- Delta ILSR board and I am concerned that it will not work at all!
I use 2 additional USB PCI cards (if necessary i will use these to avoid megastick problems) a Belkin 1.1 USB with Lucent chipset and a Belkin USB2 card with the NEC chipset.
I see most problems seem to occurr when updating the firmware (why do it if the device is already working).
Can anyone recommend me this product anything would be useful?
    Thanks
    John

now that i have fixed the problems that i had i would say this is a must buy for the price. sure, there are usb flash drives that cost less with the same amount of memory, but they are not that much less and this does way more (FM/recording, voice/recording). plus it's pretty readily availible and you dn't have to get it imported from japan. once they rid us of this USB 2.0 capatability issues on some hardware then this stick will be as good as gold! once i was able to format it using FAT as opposed to fat32 i was all set. and the firmware really must be updated to fix a problem that involved the player rebooting if the "next song" option was pressed too fast. but once flashing is completed the stick is all that i thought it would be. i hope this helps.

  • Not able to deploy windows kernel driver on target machine from visual studio

I have created windows kernel driver, and signed it with production certificate. Now I could install this driver on my target machine manually(copying inf, cat and sys).
I want to make use of the visual studio 2013's deployment facility to deploy the driver automatically. But when I try to add the target computer(with administrative account) it failed with error message "The account credentials used to connect to the
target computer could not gain administrator access to the target computer. Try using the built-in Administrator account".
    what possibly could be wrong?

Pavel The host machine is on a domain(say ABC) and I am logged In as the domain administrator. On The target machine I am logged in as the local administrator. Now while adding the target computer from visual studio I am asked for the administrator account
credentials and I am providing the local administrator credentials there.
Pavel I found it is necessary to install "WDK Test Target Setup x64-x64_en-us.msi" on the target machine which I had not run. Once installing that I passed through the previously mentioned steps and after performing few installations target machine
got rebooted. And then the deployment process hanged on step a "Attempting to connect...". Tried this for multiple times but result in to the same problem.

  • I need help with MSI CR52-A2 52x24x52x CDRW Drive

    Hi,
I am running Windows XP Home Edition.  My MSI CR52-A2 52x24x52x CDRW Drive will not work.  When I restart my computer the light on it flashes red, green, red, green, red, green, etc...  When XP is running, if I click on the drive under "My Computer" it opens up the drive but no files are found.  If I try to add new hardware, I'm told that the drive is working properly.  When I try to burn a CD with Windows Media Player I'm told no CD Burner is found on my system.  Please help!  Does this have to do with the BIOS?

    Welcome to the forum superaverage.
    1) Before posting any problems related to your optical drive, please post full system specs AND PSU rails (look at my signature).
    2) Tell us how do you have your drive setup (Master, Slave, in primary channel or secondary channel).
    Edyros!
The recommended setup for ANY CD-R/W or DVD-R/W is to set them in the secondary channel as secondary master (assuming that your primary master is your HDD).
If you're using nero as your burning program, try downloading the latest ASPI drivers for windows XP.
Try flashing your drive's firmware to support more media and to fix minor bugs.
ALWAYS use an 80-conductor IDE cable for ANY drive.

  • Review/Analysis of the new 3.00.13 firmware for Megastick 256

ok people i've done some comparisons between firmwares 2.11 and 3.00.13 for megastick 256 to see if its worth the upgrade or not
i have my Megastick with a bunch of mp3 and some files in a couple of folders, pretty standars stuff, i've saved all these files in a folder of my hard disk to do a fair comparison between both versions
THIS IS MY MEGASTICK WITH FIRMWARE 2.11 WITH STUFF IN IT
MEGASTICK JUST UPGRADED TO 3.00.13 WITH NEW SETTINGS.DAT AUTO CREATED (notice how the new format to Fat32 reduces the file size of settings.dat to 2kb instead of 4kb)
MEGASTICK WITH 3.00.13 FORMATTED TO FAT32 AND FILLED WITH SAME PREVIOUS FILES
as you can see, the new firmware eats up about 3 MB of your total available memory,
    OTHER THINGS
    - WORST OF ALL,  The volume steps problem is back, just like version 2.10 megastick has too few volume steps and you can hear that the volume makes jumps ( one level too silenced and the next too loud)
    - My megastick works considerable slower with Fat32 on it, takes like to 2 extra minutes to fill up the same amount of stuff in it than with just "Fat " and sometimes fails to delete files when i tell him so, i have to insist and it does it
    - Also, the inclusion of chinese languages in the Language menu has screwed many of my song titles , song names with tildes in it  are sometimes not correctly recognized , for example i have a song called "Ave María" (with tilde on i) and the screen shows a chinese character instead of the i
my suggestion is dont upgrade to 3.00.13 and stick to 2.11 if you dont have any of the bugs that the firmware corrects
i'm going back to 2.11 now
    hope MSI corrects these problems

uh...really disappointed with this firmware. The volume steps have been decreased from a favourable amount to an amount worse than that of the 2.01 firmware. Instead of adding support for multiple languages, I personally think that MSI should focus more on implementing new features like time elapsed, OGG playback, and a fix for the background noise when recording.

  • EnzoMatrix: NEW 256 Nvidia GeForce Driver Due May 24th

The 256 Nvidia Video driver (that covers both desktops and laptops) is due out May 24th. I am really hoping that support for our; 760i and 9800 S will be included. Here is the article:
256 Nvidia Video Driver Launch & 3d Vision Postponement
Yeah, they have pushed back the 3-D Vision Surround support until the June or July release of the 256 branch driver. If I am reading between the lines right (and I hope I am) it looks like Nvidia is FINALLY  going to start a regular Monthly  driver release, like ATI has been doing for years and years. Monthly releases keep up with newer games and advancing technology (like DX 11). Let's all send out Happy Thoughts to Nvidia supporting monthly driver releases!!!

Ahead of schedule, Nvidia released 257.21 WHQL today! Here are the links:
                                                    Nvidia 257.21 Win 7-Vista 64bit 257.21 WQHL Driver
                                                    Nvidia 257.21 Win 7 & Vista 32bit WQHL Driver
Most suprising is that that they only support desktops and not desktop/laptop as Nvidia indicated this 256.xx family of driver would. Mayhaps there are a lot more problems with the all inclusive driver than they had anticipated. Here is more infomation on this driver:
This is the first driver release from the Release 256 family of drivers (versions 256.xx to 259.xx). This driver package supports GeForce 6, 7, 8, 9, 100, 200, 300, and 400-series desktop GPUs as well as ION desktop GPUs. Learn more about Release 256 drivers here .
    New in Version 257.21
Adds support for Blu-ray 3D with NVIDIA 3D Vision technology. Learn more about the hardware and software requirements here .

  • Megastick 256 firmware bug ?

My Megastick 256 (F/W 2.10) has a strange problem in that every so often the music stops for about 1/2 second and then continues.  This is not connected with the compressed file due to the fact that when I rewind the song to the same period that caused the problem, it plays no problem.
If I did not know better I would say the pause button had been pressed and the released.  This sounds to me like a memory latency problem with the flash memory.  If the player can not stream the music file off the Flash fast enough then it will empty its cache and we have a blank spot in the music.
It could be 2 things, the first is the firmware not managing the memory efficiently enough or the decoder is not optimised efficiently to work with the memory.
Additionally it could be a badly compiled file, this I doubt as the files have been produced using the MP3 coding done in Sonic Foundary's Sound Forge 6 and the associated MP3 encoder.  If the file was badly compiled then chances are the fault would be repeatable but it is not.
I also use this to compress things in WMA with most of the music encoded at 64bit as I am not entirely worried about the overall quality, If I want that I listen to the CD.   I find that I can get about 7 hours of music on the megastick and when riding the bike it is not an essential thing that we have CD quality.
As an interim solution has enyone tested the megastick with different compressed WMA or MP3 files to see if there is a better or preferred compression method that prevents this problem.  I wondered if the larger files would have less for the decoder to do thus preventing the problem.
Finally, without the problem shown above this is a great piece of kit.  I would like to see some form of organisation towards the song lists, maybe a category system would be nice.

Thanks for the feedback, guys. Very useful.
Yes, I have found the volume control a bit restrictive as well, although unfortunately I suspect that this may be a limitation of the hardware rather than something that can be fixed by firmware. Anyway, hopefully MSI will listen and take it into account for future releases.
The headphones supplied don't seem too bad. I think they are better than the ones supplied with earlier models? Having said that, the quality is rather better with an expensive pair of Sony ones instead...
I noticed with interest that quite a few issues raised in this forum DO seem to have been addressed, which is most encouraging. Companies that really do listen will certainly get my custom!
On another note, I have just been experimenting with WMA files (variable bit rate). I'm pleased to say that I have not experienced any of the spurious noise that was reported in some other posts.

  • MSI Megastick 128 LOGO HOWTO ??

Im trying to have my megastick (MSI megastick 128, fimware 2.05) with my own logo, I have download MSI utility called ?MSI painter? then I copy bootlog1.mlg into drive, in direcrory LOGO, but it isnt running, what have I do??

well, that happened to me , too.
All the startup logo files MUST be saved in the root directory of your Mega Stick (e.g. F:\BOOTLOG3.MLG), then you can select any one of them.
BTW, when you nagative through all your own logos , try not to go through the default MSI logo.  If you do, all your own logos would be added a straight line on the bottom line.  You have to power off and restart the Mega Stick to eliminate that line.  It's not permanent distortion, but quite annoying.
    Enjoy!

  • Megastick 256 and usb2

I am looking to buy a new mobo with nforce2, maybe ASUS A7N8X-E Deluxe but have read many posts about problems with megastick 256 and nforce2 mobos.
Does anyone have the A7N8X-E Deluxe? does it work with the megastick 256?
If not what usb2 motherboards do?

i have a MSI K7n2 delta (chipset Nforce ultra 400) yes the one that some people have problem with megastick on it
and my megastick 256 works absolutely perfect, in any USB port, being 1.1 or 2.0
    no problems at all
maybe that people hasn`t upgraded their megastick firmware to the latest version
