Multi-processor support!

I must say that the only feature that will make me upgrade ever again from CS4 (or even to upgrade my MacPro) would be full multi-processor support.
Unfortunately, Adobe has been introducing new features that turn out to be imperfect and NEVER get updated or fixed any more.
Hoping for CS5 to come through!

You're right. What I meant was FULL multi-processor support.
Like saving and opening files, especially when saving large, multi-layered 16 bit files. Just tested it again - a file that is 2.91GB when opened in photoshop (which any file I work on typically is) takes 42 seconds to save as an 8 bit file and (after deleting layers to make it the same 2.91GB when open in photoshop in 16 bit format) takes 5min and 20 seconds to save in 16 bit while the activity monitor shows only one processor being utilized.
I would like to work more in 16 bit but it's not practical now as it takes too long for just the saving part.
At least it should be non-modal so that you could work on another image while others are being saved and/or opened.
There are also a few filters that do not use multiple processors - like the lens blur filter, which works amazingly well but makes me take a coffee break every time I use (especially when used with a large blur amount).

  • Photoshop Element 7 Multi Processor Support?

Will we have multiprocessor support across the entire feature set of PSE 7? I haven't seen that as part of the feature set of the new product. Today, we experience diminished functionality by having to turn off multi-processor support in order to get thumbnails to work. Just curious if that might have been included in the new product.

Paul posted his query before PSE 7 was released, but for future reference of people searching these forums:
PSE 7 fixes the notorious bug in PSE 6 in which thumbnails for raw photos were not correctly displayed on computers with multiple processors (e.g. hyperthreaded Pentiums or dual- or quad-core Duos).

  • Multi processor support Win 7 HP

    Dear experts,
I'm running a Mac Pro 2 x 2,8 quad core (8 cores in total) and installed Win7 Home premium-64 in a Bootcamp partition. Everything runs fine, except that I noticed that Win 7 does not make use of the 2 processors. It's only seeing 1 processor (4 cores) and as a result, Geekbech shows half the performance I get when running OS-X Lion.
Is there a way to get WIN7 looking at the other processor also?
    Your help greatly appreciated!
    Ruud

    Hi Hatter,
The only reason I installed Win7 on my Mac is to support a single application, my Tacx VR home trainer software. I never would have guessed that supporting a home trainer would require a professional edition of Windows.
Microsoft build the support for multiple processors in Win professional but decided to remove that from the HP version. That is what I call crippling and I think that this is a ridicules decision. Not only driver problems will be an extra bonus when using Windows, even the operating system itself is not supporting your hardware to the fullest.
I would like to see the chart you are referring to. I could only find a lot of misleading information on this subject. I could even find a Win 7 spec sheet that told me that the HP version offered support for 2 processors!
    Regards, Ruud

  • Multi-processor support for apache/httpd?

    Hello all,
I'm wondering there's a way to get apache/httpd to take advantage of all 8 cores of my Mac Pro? I have a process running that is maxing out at 100% CPU and I would love to see the other 7 processors being utilized. Is this possible? Any help would be much appreciated.

Apache is usually configured to run multiple worker processes, so yes, it can use all of an eight-core.
Launch Terminal.app and issue the following command, authenticating with an administrative password:
    $ sudo lsof -i -P | grep -i "httpd"
That's a list of all the web server processes active.
Now if your central web activities are all within that one process that is using all of that core, then you do have a problem. Figuring out how to split the processing from that process across more cores depends on exactly what that particular process is doing.

  • Support Multi processor in ms windowsp

Hi, looking for a new Mac but need to run windows programs such has @risk.
my question is simple when running Windows using software such has Parallel would multi processor be supported?
would it be supported if I reboot in Ms-windows, with Boot camp? In that second case it sound likely
    thanks

If the OS and app suports multiprocessors then they can be used in both a virtual machine such as Parallels and is BootCamp. In Parallels you select how many cores yo want the virtual machine to use as well as how much memory.

  • Encore CS3 - Multi-Core Processor Support?

Does Encore CS3 take advantage of multi-core processors (like the Intel Q6600)? When transcoding a video file I noticed only one CPU is at 80% and the total CPU usage in < 40%
I tired searching on "multi-core", "multicore", "multithread", "Q6600", "Quad Core", etc...

    >Yes, that is totally ridiculous, we have the year 2008 now and Adobe is still not able to produce stable software that runs stable on multi-core or on 64-bit.
There are very, very few apps running in 64 bit at all right now, and XP Pro SP2 is still far stabler than the awful Vista is.
    Apple do not even
    i have
a 64-bit operating system at all, so please tell me what it is you're jumping ship to?
    Scenarist is 32 bit.
64 bit will make very little difference at all, with the sole exception of being able to install (but not necessarily use) scads of RAM.
Multi-Core support would be nice, but with a Sonic Authorcore, that also isn't looking very likely either.
    > I hope they are really ashamed of that.
If this remains to be the case we will have to hop of from adobe productline, because already now its hard to find any 32-bit windows in our office.
More fool the office then. In media production, the cardinal rule for working, stable systems is
1 - Do your due diligence & research what you need fore your platform.
2 - Run separate systems that are designed for the task in hand - you should not really be running Internet & office applications on an authoring system.
    >And its really anoying sitting on a quad core and wait for transcodings for hours just because 3 cores sit there and watch one working...
I agree multicore could be useful.

  • Multi-core processor support?

Hi, I was looking for multiple core processor support on the AIR runtime but found no information... What about it? Does the runtime take advantage of it automatically? If not, are there some guidelines to create software for AIR that can take advantage of this?

It is automatic. You only have one execution "thread" in AIR, but the runtime uses multiple threads under the covers. Note that Pixel Bender shaders do run on another thread, so that is one way to offload some heavy graphics or numeric processing (if it can be done in a shader program).

  • Upgrading from single processor to multi processor

I am looking for information on upgrading a 7.3 Oracle from a

I'm not certain why that would be the wrong boards. I guess HP has the wrong boards posted on their product's support site at the link below.

  • Multi-language support for user-specified text strings used in the forms

multi-language support for user-specified text strings used in the forms
Instead of creating multiple forms, 1 in each different language, for the same service, is there any workaround?

Hoan - is your question what are the considerations when creating multiligual catalogs? If so, I can tell you that at other clients I have seen them use a single catalog for one or two languages. For the two langugages, such as Spanish/English, you can create a single catalog with both of them. Once you get to more than two languages, the catalog would get unweildy and is therefore not suggested.

  • Multi-Processor Systems vs Single Processor systems

In general, is it better to run Weblogic on a fast single processor system
or on a multi-processor system where the individual cpus are less powerful?
I am assuming that the platforms are WINTEL and all other things (memory,
    disk channels etc) are equal.
What are the licensing implications of one philosophy over the other?

disk channels etc) are equal. You'll hate me for saying this, but it depends on your application and
    your client load.
I'd suggest that you run a load test against both systems and compare

  • Win 8.1. Core language and multi-language support.

    HI,
I've used a US developed program with multi-language support for years in Win XT and Win 7. As the program now supports win 8.1. I've upgraded to 8.1. and the new release of the program. However it will not work properly and the reason given is
that my version of 8.1. has a different core language compared with what  the program uses and this version is not multi-language supported. Now I wonder if there are various versions of  the core language in 8.1. or is the core
language unique, supported by various language packets for menu's, guiding texts, etc.  Why do I then need a multi-language supported program? Where can I put this question?
    Regards
    Sverre

    I'd probably try them here.

  • Multi-master support

I have a LDAP server that want to sync entries to an AD. Can I config the a multi-master for the LDAP ?

Hi, the current Meta-Directory product looks at just one changelog (the RetroChangeLog for Sun ONE Directory v5.x) and as such true and full Multi-Master support with Meta is not possible at this time. However, the engineering team are in the process of documenting what cohabitation is possible when Meta is used against just one of the two Directory masters. This white paper will be available in a few weeks time, if you email me or contact your Sun ONE account manager this information will be provided to you.

  • Multi-Lang support and slides issue

First, is anyone here using slides-based Flash documents at
all? Whenever I post my (IMHO well-researched) questions/reports,
like the one linked to below, I never get an answer. By now I'm
ready to give up completely on slide-based documents and ready to
convert it all to "flat" Flash docs, but I'm just curious why the
numerous horrible bugs in slides get no response, did everyone else
but me know not to use them???
(older problem, actually more a report because there is no
solution, it's clearly a bug IMHO:
    http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/webforums/forum/messageview.cfm?forumid=15&catid=288&threadid =1255720&enterthread=y)
Anyway, I found a new issue, which, like last time, I first
successfully and easily recreated using a fresh (slide-based)
document to make sure my AS code isn't interferring.
Doing the same experiment with bot a "normal" Flash document
and with a slide-based one, I created a dynamic text field and
followed (Macromedia/Adobe) instructions to setup multi-language
support (en,de) for the text field, using the Strings dialogue.
It all worked as it should in the regular Flash doc, but
nothing worked in the slide-based one. Right now I'm trying to see
if I can still get it to work using the Locale class and AS code,
but that doesn't seem to work either.
Again, by now I've pretty much decided to abandon slide-based
layout because of the bugs and the non-existing feedback, I'm only
curious if I was the only one who ever even tried slides...(?)

this should work. One thing to keep in mind is that Swing components have fonts set on them, so if the font you are using doesn't contain the characters, then you get garbage sometimes (I see this with japanese characters when they pump into an app I'm currently writing, even though I know I got the right character codes out of the email).
Try base64 encoding the content before it is sent and save it (the base64) to a text file (Don't send the base64 text, send the actual content). Then base64 encode the content when it is recieved and compare it to the stored file (without the whole displaying thing). If they match, your issue isn't javamail, it is probably swing, or you aren't setting the character encodings correctly. If they don't match, javamail.
Just taking bets I would say the two will match and your issue is simply the swing font thing.
