Multicolumn filtering in dashboards

Dear Expert's,
I am stuck with a problem while designing my dasboard.
I have data in the following format.
Year - Quarter - Customer - Division - KF1 - KF2
2005 - Q1 - SAP - Consulting - 10 - 20
2005 - Q2 - IDE - Food - 20 - 10
2005 - Q2 - SAP - Jets - 12 - 11
2006 - Q2 - RAM - Jets - 11 - 11
What i wish to do, is to create radio box(for selection) to choose any Year, Quarter , Customer & Division
eg if the user chooses 2005 , i want to display 3 line entries
2005 - Q1 - SAP - Consulting - 10 - 20
2005 - Q2 - IDE - Food - 20 - 10
2005 - Q2 - SAP - Jets - 12 - 11
if the user further selects quarter - Q2 (without disturbing the selection on for year ) the result should be
2005 - Q2 - IDE - Food - 20 - 10
2005 - Q2 - SAP - Jets - 12 - 11
If the selection from year is removed (still maintaining the selection on quarter Q2 ) the result should show
2005 - Q2 - IDE - Food - 20 - 10
2005 - Q2 - SAP - Jets - 12 - 11
2006 - Q2 - RAM - Jets - 11 - 11
Simply i need to create a filer for all the fields.
The issue that i am facing with filer component is that - 1 - it returns only one desitnation row , 2 - you can only get Key values in result set
Issue with combo box is i cannot select multiple fields (dimensions) using it .
Please suggets .
Thanks in Advance

Hi Bose,
I have worked on the similar scenario. As you have mentioned in the above query, by using filter component, result will be a single row data and that too it gets only key values. It is the component behavior.
Steps for implementing Multicolumn Filtering in Dashboards
1. Insert 4 combo boxes into the canvas.
2. For 1st combo box, map labels to year column data, map all columns data (including year column) as source and map required number of rows for destination with equal number of columns as in source.
3. For 2nd combo box, map the Quarter column data from the destination of 1st combo box, map the complete destination of 1st combo box as source and map required number of rows for destination with equal number of columns as in source.
4. For 3rd combo box, map the Customer column data from the destination of 2nd combo box, map the complete destination of 2nd combo box as source and map required number of rows for destination with equal number of columns as in source.
5. For 4th combo box, map the Division column data from the destination of 3rd combo box, map the complete destination of 3rd combo box as source and map required number of rows for destination with equal number of columns as in source.
6. This 4th combo box destination will be your required data with all columns which you can use for displaying through charts or spreadsheets.
You can go through the attached image in which you can find how I have arranged data in my spreadsheet for combo boxes source and destination.
In my Dashboard I have filtered Year, Plant, Month & Product Category. But scenario is similar. Keep posting if you find any difficulty in implementing this method.

  • Replace comma for semicolon in Dashboard prompts?

    Hi all,
When multiple values are selected in Filters or Dashboard prompts, a semicolon is seen between multiple values, but a comma is applied in background (can be seen in Logical Query). Is it possible to change comma for any other symbol for example semicolon (;)? If yes, where does this change take place (what are the configuration files need to be changed) and how will BI Server response to this change?
    Thanks in advance.

I don't think you can change that. Even if it is possible, report will give no results as the filter values are not separated with commas because the SQL query will carry that symbol.

  • Getting problem in Dashboard Prompts

    Hi All,
I have designed a dashboard prompt for the time which captured data for month, quater and year.
when i click on the month option to select some data and for example i have selected all the data from the month and click on ok and when again i open the selection option to select/deselect the some data then i find everything again (on the right side of this prompt) though all the earlier selected items are still to the left as well.
can anyone help me in resolving this issue?
    thanks in advance.

    thanks kishore..
it means oracle bi doesn't provide any solution for this...
actually its good when user have to select some data from the available options but in case when he/she has to select more than 20 items from 100 items available then he/she can be confused about what items he/she has already selected...
and when they click on the 'ok' button then all the duplilcates (which he/she has selected more than one time) will come to the display for column filters(via dashboard prompts).
    isn't it?

  • Setting dashboard prompt in agent?

    Hi everyone,
i have a dashboard including a prompt, which filters the dashboard data for the selected organizational unit. Now i would like to create one (preferred) or more (if i have to) agents, which deliver the dashboard as one pdf per organizational unit. But i cannot find a way to configure the dashboard prompt from the agent.
Is this possible in any way? Or will i have to use the Burst feature of BI Publisher? I would not really like this solution, because i don't have the time to rebuild my dashboard as a Publisher report.
    Thank you for your help.
    Greetings
    Christoph

Have you looked into dynamic variables in the repository - the Oracle by example repository building details this well - and you can associate specific users or groups to effect a dyanamic population of variables which could be used to act as filters on your reports.
Combine this with (say) delivers and you have dynamic report delivery by organisation with as many other dynamic parameters as you wish, provided you can populate them with SQL.
If you find this helpful please award points.
    Regards,
    Robert.

  • Editing XML Invalidates Prompts

I renamed a subject area, dashboard and catalog folder; and I changed the corresponding references in dashboard, requests, prompts and filters by editing their XML from the Catalog Manager.
Editing requests this way worked fine, and I have not run into any problems with filters and dashboard. However, Answers appears to stop recognizing at least one prompt when I change the XML. When next I copy this prompt over again from the original folder and rename, it is then recognized as a prompt (although it still uses the wrong subject area).
When I extract, edit, and paste back the XML (to change the subject area references), the object type in the catalog manager is changed from "Dashboard Prompt" to "coxmldocument1" and answers shows it with a different icon and cannot edit it. If I edit the XML in place to change the subject area names on the column blocks; then the Object Type in the catalog manager remains OK, but I still cannot edit this prompt in Answers.
A bunch of other prompts had the Prompt object type for a while, but no show the "coxmldocument1" type. Answers won't even show their folder in the side pane, but if I try to save a request, I can see that folder in the save navigation options.
How can I edit prompts without these problems, please? Why is the folder hidden in the selection pane, but not the save dialogue?
    Thanks in advance for help.

  • Performance Point Decomposition Tree does not Showing the Any Dimensions

    Hi,
Actually i have created three (dimension) filters in Dashboard which is associated with Analytic grid. Among those three dimension two of them in Analytic Chart 'Bottom axis' remaining one dimension in Analytic Chart 'Background'.
Now the decomposition tree is not working. but i would moved BackGround dimension to bottom axis then then decomposition  tree is working fine.
Why? Does decomposition tree not work, if any dimension would be in analytic chart 'BackGround'.
Can anyone tell answer for issue? Any work around for this?
It would be great if any one would give a correct Solution. Thanks in Advance.
    Thanks & Regards
    Poomani Sankaran

One  observation which is, if All the filter Dimensions would be in bottom axis  then the Analytic grid Decomposition Tree is working fine. If i would keep any one of dimension in 'Back Ground' then it is not showing any dimension in Decomposition
    Tree.

  • Hiding part of filter view

    Hi All,
I have a report where i have some hard coded filters.
    For example:
below are the columns of the report
    Quarter, Booking_flag, partner id, Amount
    and i have hard coded filter : booking_flag = 'Y'
now when i use filter view, i am getting this booking_flag = 'Y' along with prompt filters on dashboard.
Users dont want to see this booking_flag='Y' filter in the filter view but want to see only filters which are applied in the prompts..
so is there a way to hide this hard coded filter and show all other filters which are applied in prompts in filter view?
    thanks in advance...

thanks in advance...No, but you can group the filters so "hard-coded" filters are all grouped and the prompt filters are grouped, but separately, with the logican operand "AND" between them. This would visually separate the filters and users and focus on the "group" of prompt filters to see what was chosen.
This might be a "happy compromise" for them.

  • Restrict users to see some colums from an report

    Hi,
is there a way to restrict users (group of users) to see some columns in a report.
    For example:
mr X to see both quantity and price columns
and mr Y to see just quantity column
    in the same report
or I have to make 2 report one with both columns and one with just an column.

    Hi Nicolae ,
Security is enforced on two levels:
Object-level security controls access to Metadata Repository objects (configured in
Administrator Tool), and Web Catalog objects such as Folders, Filters, and Dashboards, etc. (configured in BI Answers Web Application). Data-level security controls access to content and data in end-user Reports and Dashboards (configured in Administrator Tool). Administrator Tool Manage Menu item Security Manager is used to define Users and User Groups and define Repository permissions.
Data-level permissions can be set to above Groups and Users from the Presentation Table properties dialog box of each Subject area.BI Answers Web Page, Settings Menu
Administration, to view and administer privileges associated with various components of the Answers Web application.

  • Substitute for filters in SAP BusinessObjects Dashboards

    Dear all,
I am working on a dashboard application built on SAP Business Objects Dashboards 4.1.
When I deployed the application to an iPad, I realized that the filters present in the application are not supported by iPad.
Thus, is there any mobile-compatible component in SAP BO Dashboards which I can use in place of filrters for filtering the result during runtime?
    Any help is highly appreciated.
    Thanks And Regards,
    Nalin Dwivedi

In combo box, all I can do is select some values from one or more rows or cells in the excel and paste it to some other destination within excel. But my whole dashboard is query-based i.e. I have created query and my charts are getting the data directly from database during runtime. Thus, the query prompt selectors I have used are directly manipulating the data coming from the database.
Since query prompt selector are not supported in mobile mode, I need a substitute for it.
Combo box is not able to help till now because the values of combo box can not manipulate the data coming from database. Moreover, I am not sure if I have used the combo box properly.
If there is any way by which it can be done with using mobile-compatible components, then please suggest me about it.
    Thanks in advance.

    Nalin

  • Issue filtering a report (based on narrative view) with a dashboard prompt.

I used HTML and java-script codes in narrative view to solve the issue of "linking different reports on selecting values from a drop-down". A new issue has cropped up due to that implementation. The issue is that i can't attach a dashboard prompt to such a report. This means, when i put this report on a dashboard page with a dashboard prompt to help filter the report, the report does not gets filtered (it does not seems to be connected to the dashboard prompt).
Has anyone faced this issue before? If yes, please let me know how to tackle it at the earliest.

  • Prevent dashboard prompt from filtering a particular report on page?

I have a dashboard page with 1 prompt and 5 reports. The first object on the dashboard page is a dashboard prompt with a date range for created date.
The request is to filter the first 4 reports based on the dashboard prompt, and then the last report NOT be filtered based on the prompt.
Right now - the date range entered in the dashboard prompt is filtering all 5 reports.
Is there any way to prevent the prompt from filtering a particular report on the dashboard page?
    Thanks!

Just wanted to provide an update as to what I learned from the SR I opened.
Dashboard prompts apply to all reports on the page which either:
    * Have the "is prompted" filter selected
    - OR -
    * Are filtered in any other way
In my case, my last report was filtered on the created date to exclude any data prior to July 1, 2010. Because this hardcoded filter was applied, then the report automatically was picking up the date range filter from the dashboard prompt and applying that date range to the report instead.
The workaround was to create a new column on the report formatting the date as YYYYMM and applying a filter to the report as >= 201007. With this, the dashboard prompt is now not applied to filter this report.

  • Dashboard prompt calendar date not filtering results

I have a report with a date value. I custom formatted the date to MM/dd/yy and the report shows it correctly. I created a dashboard prompt with a calendar control and "is between" operator. However, the date never gets filtered. All values are shown. Do I have to change anything in the prompt because I custom formatted the date?
Ahh.. forgot to add "is prompted" to column filter

    Hi Subbu,
Thanks, but my question is a bit different.
I want to have 2 'Dashboard' Prompts:
    1) Country - The default value for which should be set to the logged in User's Country. Later the user can choose to select a different country.
    2) Calendar Year/Month - For this I want to limit the restrict the values that are displayed, i.e. they should start from 2010 / 01 and end at Current Month. So I need the variable that would work with this field.
I am unable to get solution for both of the above.

    Ady

  • How to restrict the filters' interaction between two (or more) dashboard pages?

    Hello,
I work in OBIEE 10.1.3. and I don't have a lot of experiense with this product.
I have a problem with report filters’ interaction between dashboard pages. I have created two pages in one dashboard and I navigate from page 1 to page 2. Reports from page 2 have more restrictive data filters (for example, Fiscal Month = Current Month & Fiscal Year = Current Year) than reports from page 1 (Fiscal Month <= Current Month & Fiscal Year = Current Year). If I start from the page 1 and then navigate to the page 2 by clicking on the column that is used for navigation all reports on both pages work fine. However, when I return to page 1 (by clicking on the page name) the data in the reports there is skewed, displaying only the data for Fiscal Month = Current Month. I checked the reports filters and they all get reset from (Fiscal Month <= Current Month) to (Fiscal Month = Current Month). I tried to resolve this by canging filters back to what they were, saving the report, and starting over, but it does not help.
If anyone knows the solution for my problem, please respond to my post.
    Thank you,

    You can use this workaround:
Page1: Fiscal Month : CASE WHEN 1=1 THEN 'Fiscal Month' END
Make this field as 'is prompted' for all the reports in page1.
    For Page2:
Fiscal Month : CASE WHEN 2=2 THEN 'Fiscal Month' END
Make this field as 'is prompted' for all the reports in page2.
This way OBIEE will treat them as two separate fields and the filters will not be messed up.

  • In a dashboard-can an existing rpt be pre filtered by another rprt ?

    Hi all,
    New to BI.
So here's what I want to do.
In a dashboard, can an existing report be pre filtered by another report that its linked form?
Here's an example of something similar to what I'm trying to achieve:
    - I have an existing dashboard report that gives a user a list of values, lets say year, and prompts user to choose one.
    - The report then asks for which department for that year.
    - Depending on what year and department they choose it produces a chart for all stats collected for each month of that year for that department.
All simple so far and it works.
The "issue" now is there are regions that departments fall into.
So no we want to pre filter the reports with a region selection so that the user only sees the departments for the region selected.
Now we have quite a few reports and the above is 1 of many and I suppose we could go back retrofit region into all reports.
But my question is, could we create a filter that we run and present on the dashboard before any of the existing reports?
    i.e. using above example again:
    - New dashboard item that asks for region. Region is set.
    - The existing report gives a user a list of values, lets say year, and prompts user to choose one.
    - The report then asks for which department for that year - but this time only shows departments belonging to the region as selected above.
    - Depending on what year and department they choose it produces a chart for all stats collected for each month of that year for that department.
Anyone got any tips if this can be done, and guidance on where to start and how to go about it?

Hi, yes I do have the constrain checkbox checked and its good in that allows users to limit the results from the drop list.
But I was looking more for a way to allow a users to choose a region from a drop down list in a new front end report/chart and then all following existing dashboard reports run pre filtered by that region. (hope this makes sense - so hard to put these queries to words sometimes...)
