Multiline string in the Actions window

Question

There's no doubt a simple answer for this, but it's been
driving me nuts for years. In the Actions panel I am writing a
paragraph of text to appear in a dynamic text field. If I write it
as a single line (stretching maybe a half a mile), it comes out
fine. If I try to break the text up for convenience only, like...
display.text = "This is an experiment to see if there's any
way
to type several lines of text in the Actions Window.";
... I get a syntax error back. If I insert a backslash at the
end of the first line, like...
display.text = "This is an experiment to see if there's any
way\
to type several lines of text in the Actions Window.";
... the text will appear correctly in the text field, but the
backslash will also appear. I don't want a line-feed or a carriage
return (\n, \r); just want to be able to break up the string as I'm
writing it. Any suggestions? Many thanks in advance.
