Multiple Admin Accounts

Hi,
I've got one question regarding the administration of the BI Publisher,
can I have multiple admin accounts where the data sources are just available to a certain admin?
I just don't want that the admins can use the data sources of other admins or can see them.
Is that somehow possible?
BR
& thank you,
Lena

In the Standalone version BIP uses the same credentials to connect to the datasources, irrespective of the user logged in, hence I cannot think of how this restriction can be done, perhaps in a future release this may be supported.
In the BI publisher that comes embedded with systems, like JDEdwards, Siebel, etc The security is controlled by the user rights assigned to the user in the application BI Publisher is embedded with.
If your requirement is Binding, you may want to consider a different Instance of BIP for each exclusive datasource.

  • Cannot ping ibook with multiple admin accounts

i am trying to set up remote control across a LAN, and have had success with two iMac G5's controlled from my dual G5. the problem is that i can't connect to an iBook with exactly the same settings and firewall config.
in trying to troubleshoot, i have noticed that i can't ping the iBook, and the only thing i can think of that is different is that the iBook has two user accounts, both of which have admin privileges. could this be causing the problem?
if not, what else could i try? any suggestions, please?

I doubt very much that the problem is caused by having two user accounts with administrator privileges. I have several systems with multiple admin accounts and have never had them cause a problem with the network.
Since you can't even ping the iBook, that would seem to make it a problem with the OS or the network, not with Apple Remote Desktop, so you might have more luck getting suggestions if you ask in the networking forum in the appropriate Mac OS X area.
    Good luck.

  • Multiple admin accounts, need to delete one of them ... what happens?

Ok, short story shorter - broke up with my GF and she has an account on my laptop.
She has saved all her stuff, so I'm not worried about loosing personal files/documents.
My question is though, what else may be lost that I should be careful of.
    • Will programs be lost?
I installed Adobe Suite through her account, will that be removed as well? That's an application though, that I set for 'all users'.
    • Will there be any change to system, or cause errors if that was the main Admin account?
By deleting an Admin that was in use 50% of the time, are there any system problems that may happen after I delete?
From what I remember, the system when I created another Admin account it just treated it as if someone just set up their MBP for the first time - ie. they seem to be completely independant.
Basically, I just want to make sure my experience (in my account) does not change once I've pressed the delete button.
    Much thanks in advance.
    -NTFW

    Thanks andyBall_uk,
I can confirm that there are no files/data/passwords that I'm concerned about loosing on the account I want to delete.
*BUT, on the account I want to delete - I installed Adobe Illustrator/Photoshop.
These programs are usable on my account as well, I see them in my Application folder even though I only installed it once.
Are you saying it will delete Adobe Illustrator/Photoshop because it was installed on that Admin account?
Thanks very much for the help!

  • I recently set up multiple accounts and when I was trying to figure out how to share files I messed up something in my documents. Everytime I open a doc from the ADMIN account, a box pops up that says "The file is not in the correct format" how to fix?

I recently set up multiple accounts on my imac, When I was trying to figure out how to share the documents I must have done something wrong. When logged into the Admin account, I open up any document and I get a message box that says, "The Document could not be opened. The file isn't in the correct format. The file might be corrupted, truncated, or in an unexpected format." What did I do and how do I fix it?

Without knowing what you did it is impossible to give advice on how to correct it.
If these were files you copied over from some other system then just Re-Copy them replacing the ones that are corrupted.
Other then that I suggest you Wipe the drive and start over with a clean reinstall of the OS and programs. Then if you want to share files to All Accounts place those files in a folder in the ROOT of the drive.

  • Should I have the same admin account name on multiple computers

Currently I have a Macbook with an admin account plus 2 user accounts. When get a 2nd macbook, should I use the same admin name on the 2nd computer? I was thinking of making all admin account names the same for multiple macbooks, time machine, network etc. Maybe it doesn't really matter and it just means remembering multiple login names and passwords. On a related question, should the same account name be used on multiple computers. This would create a home directory on each computer with the same name. Would it be best to keep seperate names? I am refering to computer accounts, not itunes or app store accounts.

It doesn't really matter, but my vote is for different Admin names and passwords and for different computer/disk names.
The first one is for increased security (if someone breaks your password on one, they won't have access to the other). The second one is to easilly distinguish the different macs and disks in a file sharing, network browsing and syncing situations.

  • Multiple .Mac accounts, on one Admin account on one computer

    Hello all,
I am trying to have multiple .Mac accounts to publish independent iWeb websites on unique domains (the apple iweb provided ones) but it appears I can only have one .Mac account on my computer's network user to do the easy one click Publish button to.
I don't want to use multiple user accounts on my computer as I'd like to have access to all my photos, music, videos and everything else and easily do so without logging out from my main account.
    What am I missing?
    Many thanks,
    Michael

The only safe and easy method is multiple user accounts.
You can easily store your iPhoto and music Libraries on an external drive and share them between accounts.

  • Multiple Contribute Admin Accounts

    Hey,
I am trying to use Contribute to edit a Template file made in
Dreamweaver for an HTML email. I know its not the best way of doing
things, but all the office need to do is change the text, so its
working just fine except for CSS. I have found that some email
clients (like gmail or yahoo) do not support CSS formated text in
the email. I have also found that the only way to change what
Contribute uses (CSS or not) is with an Admin account. I have an
Admin account for the main site, but I do not want to disable CSS
for the main site. I only want to disable CSS for a sub folder
where I will store the HTML files. Right now I have a sub folder,
linked to an FTP user name and only allows them to upload to that
sub folder. That's where I am now.
So, all I need to know is how to create an Admin account for
only a sub folder. That way, I can use Contribute go into the Admin
Panel and disable CSS, but only for the sub folder. Thanks for any
    help!

  • Downloading and installing on admin account vs standard account

What is the difference for downloading and installing files when:
logged in on an admin account
logged in on a standard account (using the admin details when prompted)
I ask this, because when I am in my standard account, the downloaded files and installed applications are owned by the standard account. Does this affect how the files run on other standard accounts?

In other words, is it better to do all downloading and installing whilst logged into the admin account? The Ownership & Permissions is stopping me from doing this when logged in on my standard account. There are many other standard accounts, and I am concerned that my standard account will not be equal. This is because of the permissions issues outlined previously.
P.S. Sorry for the multiple posts. I can't find a way to edit the original post.

  • Net use map drive is working with built-in admin account only

I currently have a windows 7 PC that I use
net use in cmd file to map drive to Windows server 2008.
It works if I use built-in admin account/password but I've tried another account that's in the administrator group on the server and I get errors.
    NET USE X: \\IPADD\c$\inetpub\ftproot  password /User:adminuseraccount
    NET USE X: \\IPADD\c$\inetpub\ftproot password /User:server\adminuseraccount
After tweaking the net use command a number of ways,  the 2 following errors are what I'm getting for the most part:
    System error 1219 has occurred.
Multiple connections to a server or shared resource by the same user, using more
than one user name, are not allowed. Disconnect all previous connections to the
server or shared resource and try again.
    OR
    System error 5 has occurred.
    Access is denied.
I've looked at many searches on this but can't get this to work.
Also,  one thing I'm thinking of doing is changing the built-in admin name and password.  Is this a safe thing to do?
    Thanks,
    Dave

  • Multiple Computers Account Setup

So I have multiple Apple & Windows computers. I am asking what is the best way to set up a safe account scenrio. In the past I was the only person using all the computers so I lived in the unsafe world of always logining in with my main admin account. Things are changing slightly as two computers will also be used as off-site workstations mainly used by me but maybe not. Here's what I have and what I am thinking.
    MacBook Air 13 - Personal
MacBook Pro 17 - Mobile Workstation
    iMac 27 - Mobile Workstation
Windows 7 - Workstation in House
Having the Admin account be the same name & password for all the computers.
Having the same user account name and password for all the computers. (Probably not good for my personal MBA)
    OR
Having different user account names for each computer with the same password.
    OR
Having different user account names for each computer with unique passwords.
    OR
I might think of keeping the two mobile workstation user account & passwords the same for ease of use. There won't be any personal info on these machines. Then have my MBA Personal use a unique login name and password. The Win7 PC could be the same as the two mobile workstations as it might be used as a backup server...
After typing this out the last option above might be the best.
    Any thoughts on this appreciated!!

unfortunately you can't transfer/move anything from one account to another.
Family Share does need some tweaking and the best way to let Apple know this is to send them customer feedback.

  • Resetting admin account?

    Hi there,
I have some trouble updating iTunes from the admin account I always use; it gets stuck with a spinning wheel while running iTunes preflight script. Creating a second, "virgin" admin account solves the problem but I'd rather stick with the old account name, ID and home directory. Other applications install well, by the way. Obviously, not installing correctly is connected with something wrong in my present admin account. Am I right with this? Is there any kind of account resetting procedure for that purpose?
    Thanks,
    Joe.

From your description there may be some bad preference files or third-party software conflicts or simply a need for some maintenance. The following may prove helpful.
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger and Leopard.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer. Now shutdown the computer for a couple of minutes and then restart normally.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior (4.0 for Tiger, and 4.1 for Leopard) and/or TechTool Pro (4.6.1 for Leopard) to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
Kappy's Personal Suggestions for OS X Maintenance
For disk repairs use Disk Utility. For situations DU cannot handle the best third-party utilities are: Disk Warrior; DW only fixes problems with the disk directory, but most disk problems are caused by directory corruption; Disk Warrior 4.0 is now Intel Mac compatible. TechTool Pro provides additional repair options including file repair and recovery, system diagnostics, and disk defragmentation. TechTool Pro 4.6.1 is Leopard compatible; Drive Genius is similar to TechTool Pro in terms of the various repair services provided. The current version, 1.5.1, is Intel Mac compatible.
OS X performs certain maintenance functions that are scheduled to occur on a daily, weekly, or monthly period. The maintenance scripts run in the early AM only if the computer is turned on 24/7 (no sleep.) If this isn't the case, then an excellent solution is to download and install a shareware utility such as Macaroni, JAW PseudoAnacron, or Anacron that will automate the maintenance activity regardless of whether the computer is turned off or asleep.
OS X automatically defrags files less than 20 MBs in size, so unless you have a disk full of very large files there's little need for defragmenting the hard drive. As for virus protection there are few if any such animals affecting OS X. You can protect the computer easily using the freeware Open Source virus protection software ClamXAV. Personally I would avoid most commercial anti-virus software because of their potential for causing problems.
I would also recommend downloading the shareware utility TinkerTool System that you can use for periodic maintenance such as removing old logfiles and archives, clearing caches, etc.
For emergency repairs install the freeware utility Applejack. If you cannot start up in OS X, you may be able to start in single-user mode from which you can run Applejack to do a whole set of repair and maintenance routines from the commandline. Note that presently AppleJack is not compatible with Leopard.
When you install any new system software or updates be sure to repair the hard drive and permissions beforehand. I also recommend booting into safe mode before doing system software updates.
Get an external Firewire drive at least equal in size to the internal hard drive and make (and maintain) a bootable clone/backup. You can make a bootable clone using the Restore option of Disk Utility. You can also make and maintain clones with good backup software. My personal recommendations are (order is not significant):
    1. Retrospect Desktop (Commercial - not yet universal binary)
    2. Synchronize! Pro X (Commercial)
    3. Synk (Backup, Standard, or Pro)
    4. Deja Vu (Shareware)
    5. PsynchX 2.1.1 and RsyncX 2.1 (Freeware)
    6. Carbon Copy Cloner (Freeware - 3.0 is a Universal Binary)
    7. SuperDuper! (Commercial)
    8. Data Backup (Commercial)
The following utilities can also be used for backup, but cannot create bootable clones:
    1. Backup (requires a .Mac account with Apple both to get the software and to use it.)
    2. Toast
    3. Impression
    4. arRSync
Apple's Backup is a full backup tool capable of also backing up across multiple media such as CD/DVD. However, it cannot create bootable backups. It is primarily an "archiving" utility as are the other two.
Impression and Toast are disk image based backups, only. Particularly useful if you need to backup to CD/DVD across multiple media.

  • Multiple user accounts unable to use Safari

    Hi All,
Now that Safari 4 is installed, other than my administrator account, my multiple user accounts seem unable to access Safari. I am unable to access the Safari preferences, (greyed-out), so I can't change parental controls that seem locked. When prompted by Safari to load each site i see no change and no ability to get to the site I just loaded.
    Any thoughts?

Using Safari 4.0 I just tried using the repair permissions in the DIsk Utility and still cannot find the Safari.app in my other user accounts. It was also missing in my admin account but after running the above repair permissions utility it reappeared. I can now only see the app in my admin Applications folder. In my other User accounts I can see only a grey ? mark. I move the ? into the trash and when I try to find the Safari.app using Finder it cannot find the .app. I am getting very frustrated. • Login with Multiple User Accounts From One Machine

We have users with multiple accounts (Admin and Standard) in our organization and we want them to be able to launch RemoteApps from RDWeb using both accounts at the same time (from a single workstation).  For example we would want their standard account
to launch the RemoteApp HEAT and their admin account to launch the RemoteApp Exchange Management Console.  Is this possible?

Thanks for the suggestion, but I'm not talking about concurrent sessions for a single user - I'm talking about multiple user accounts being used from an individual machine at the same time.  The situation would be as follows:
I log on to the computer with my normal user account (lets call it NZiehnert)
I launch an application from the RemoteApp and Desktop Connections shortcut in my start menu, which launches the application as NZiehnert
I launch the RDWeb access portal and log on using a different account (lets call it NZiehnert.admin)
I attempt to launch the same application from step 2 (or another application that runs from the same server) and instead of launching as NZiehnert.admin the application runs as NZiehnert
Basically, we have administrative tools that we wish to put into our remote environment, but we also have tools that are used by the same users normal accounts.  So we need a way for those users to be able to access the applications as a different user
    - at one point I was able to generate this dialog, but I'm not sure how to recreate it:

  • Admin vs. Non-Admin Accounts

Can someone point me to a Knowledge Base article that details the differences/usages of these two types of accounts?
On all my past Macs I've just set up the one admin account and always logged in as that... but being more security concious these days I'd like to stop that practice.
    Specific questions include:
    - how to make programs/apps/files available to all accounts (they have to be on root level, right? is that sufficient?)
    - how well iTunes plays with multiple accounts (are mutiple auths necessary?)
    - browser considerations (consistency of bookmarks/plugins across accounts - probably need to cloud sync for that, or do I?)
I realize these are pretty basic questions and apologize that my research on them so far has been less than exhaustive... Still, if anyone knows of a quick link they can shoot my way it'd be much appreciated!
