Music streaming via AEBS

I try to stream music via the AEBS to the AX.
If I use a NO cable connection everything is working fine, but when iMac and AEBS are connected with a network cable no music will be streamed to the AX.
Normally it should be working, to use the new 802.11n standard with an "old" iMac (I know that the AX does't support the "n" standard).
The question is:
If I use 2 AEBS (1st one is connected with a network cable to the iMac - and the 2nd one is the MUSIC client) will it be possible?
Thanks for help!
  Mac OS X (10.4.9)

If I use a NO cable connection everything is working fine, but when iMac and AEBS are connected with a network cable no music will be streamed to the AX.
Using the AirPort Utility, in Manual setup, connect to the AirPort Express Base Station (AX), and then, make this change...
Music tab
- Enable AirTunes over Ethernet (checked)
If I use 2 AEBS (1st one is connected with a network cable to the iMac - and the 2nd one is the MUSIC client) will it be possible?
No, the AEBSs do not provide audio output.

    Hi,
I'm pretty sure you can't do it with the basic OS X software.
You can do it with some third-party software though:

I don't have airtunes so I am speaking from a theory perspective. It looks like airtunes works with itunes and I know many streaming stations can also be played through itunes so I would think it could be done at least to some extent. You might have to save a link to the stream and then open the link file in itunes to get it to add it to your list (I have done this with a streaming station).
For other stations I don't know if you could select airtunes as a sound output option for general computer sound output in the sound control panel.

  • Music streaming via Apple TV

While using my Apple tv to stream music, it all the time jumps back to the internal speakers of my Mac book. Anyone knows how to solve this?

    Hi Jouk,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.  This article has steps to try if you are seeing issues with AirPlay between your computer and Apple TV:
iTunes: Troubleshooting AirPlay and AirPlay Mirroring
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS5209
    Troubleshooting performance issues
    Wi-Fi Connection
If you are experiencing intermittent playback or significant network lag with AirPlay, it could be due to a weak Wi-Fi connection, interference, or the distance between the Wi-Fi router and your AirPlay-enabled device.
Ensure that other devices aren't trying to stream to the same Apple TV at the same time.
Ensure that your Wi-Fi router is set up with the recommended settings for the best performance.
Certain external devices, such as microwave ovens and baby monitors, may interfere with a Wi-Fi network. Try moving or disabling these devices.
If your wireless and wired networks are the same, try connecting your Apple TV to the router via Ethernet instead of Wi-Fi.
Use the Wi-Fi network troubleshooting guide to resolve interference and other issues.

  • IPhone 4s no longer streams via USB in 2010 Honda

Previously with my iphone 4, I could connect to the USB port in my 2010 Honda Civic and also to the Auxiliary jack via a retractable auxiliary cable.  The phone was positioned at dash height and I could stream music over the 6 car speaksers from Pandora, AOL radio, Public Radio apps, and others while at the same time running the GPS program.  The music would dim whent the GSP would make an announcement or when I received an incoming call and life was good.
Yesterday I noticed with my new iphone 4S, that when I plugged into the USB jack and auxiliary jacks, these audio apps would NOT stream.  The music would play for a second or so and then stop.  iTunes radio worked fine, but with the other apps - nothing.  I stopped the GSP app, I rebooted the phone, I checked the connections - all without success.  Then, only when I got home, and I unplugged the 4s from the USB jack, did the music stream again.
I'm wondering if this has something to do with the USB wiring in the Honda (where hitting the aux. button switches between playing and displaying the ipod music and the auxiliary jack)?  I'm considering buying a USB charger via the cigarette lighter to charge the telephone instead of using the built in charger.  At home all the apps stream fine when connected to the computer's USB or the USB charger. Are there any other solutions or suggestions to be able to stream music via the built in USB charger?  I don't know what is at fault - the 4S, iOS 5.01 or the Honda USB cable connection?  Thank you.

maybe try cleaning out the port at the bottom of your iphone by blowing it out with compressed air or maybe by using a soft brush. or maybe gently with a toothpick. but nothing metal. perhaps there's dirt or dust in there that's preventing a connection. similarly make sure the connectors on your docks and cables are clean.

  • How to setup my airport for music streaming

    Hi all
I would like to use my iPhone and or iPad to stream music from Pandora and Spotify to my 5.1 (Wired) Speakers.
This question is similiar to this thread https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4153687 however i wanted some clarity and thought best to start a new discussion before pulling my hair out doing this the wrong way.
I have an unused Airport Express basestation (A1408) My current home setup is as follows:
Modem Router: (Netgear DGND3700) N600 Wireless ADSL2+ Dual band Gigabit
Home Theatre Computer: Windows 7 (Cat6 LAN Ethernet connection) NO LAN port
    AV Reciever: (Onkyo TX-SR309)
5.1 Speakers: Wired connection to AV Receiver (NOT Airplay capable)
Laptop: Windows 7 (Cat6 LAN Ethernet connection)
My question is how to setup the airport, i understand it can be used to enable airplay streaming of music over the existing WiFi network, as these music streaming apps download and play music concurrently i would not want to have to switch between to two seperate WiFi networks. Should i plug the airport into the HTPC? I would need to purchase a LAN Splitter as the only LAN socket is already taken up with my cat6 connection. OR would i plug it directly into the modem/router? This second option is prefereable.
I have attached an image of my setup below. Any advice would be great, Regards Steve

Still slightly confused, with the link you provided i chose scenario 2. All the other secanrios instructed i connect the airport express to my home stereo or powered speakers. As i dont have an aiport express only an airport extreme there is no audio jack and cannot connect it to the stereo/speakers.
option 2: Connecting to an existing Wi-Fi network as part of a roaming network
Ensure that the AirPort base station Ethernet cables are connected as above
I have done this and conected it via ethernet cat6 to the modem/router
Launch AirPort Utility 6.1. The Assistant will automatically configure the Roaming network
Im using windows 7 and cannot find this version of aiport utility, only 5.6.1 - The message comes up: Aiport utility was unable to find any airport wireless device. I am running this utility on my win7 HTPC (which is connected to my modem/router via cat6 LAN) The airport light is blinkng amber.
would you reccommend a hard reset of the airport? or can you provide a link for AirPort Utility 6.1.?

  • Does iTunes use wireless music stream if using an Ethernet cable for AE?

    Hello,
I have been having trouble with airtunes for some time now. I've tried lots of different things without much success. I think there might be too many wireless networks in my building and I am getting a lot of interference. So i'm thinking of trying a wired method.
If I plugged an ethernet cable from the computer into the Airport Express (which is then plugged into the stereo), does airtunes still send the music stream wirelessly or would it use the ethernet cable instead?
    Thanks
    WP

    1. Will this work (i.e., add wireless to the office and maintain my existing wireless in my home)? If so, what do I need to do? Specifically, do I need to configure WDS and (if so) does 2Wire support this?
What you are attempting to do is actually called a "roaming" network in Apple terms and not WDS. In a roaming network, AirPort base stations are connected together on the same subnet of an Ethernet network. Each base station is setup as a bridge, but share the same network name (SSID) and encryption (if used). It sounds like it should be possible to setup the AirPort Express Base Station (AX) as a roaming network. The following is how it would be done with AirPort Extreme Base Stations:
    - Network configuration: DSL/Cable Modem or Internet Router > (Ethernet cable) > [WAN] AEBS1 [LAN] > (Ethernet cable) > [LAN] AEBS2 [LAN] > (Ethernet cable) > [LAN] AEBSn (Note: In your case, you will have a single AX, instead of multiple AEBSs.)
    - Setup the second AEBS, as a bridge. (Disable "Distribute IP addresses")
    - For each AEBS in the roaming network:
-- Connect to the same subnet of the Ethernet network
-- Provide a unique Base Station Name
-- The Network Name should be identical
-- If using security, use the same encryption type (WEP, WPA, etc.) and password.
-- Make sure that the channel is set at least three channels apart from the next AEBS.
    2. Assuming I can, can I have that same AX (i.e., the one connected vis-à-vis Ethernet cable) be used for wireless printing in the office while providing wireless internet? Any special configuration to allow that?
    Yes.
    3. If this network desire does not work, is there another set of hardware that I should purchase (i.e., a different wireless DSL modem, Airport Extreme, other???).
The configuration as you planned it should work...but, in case it doesn't, I'd recommend that you replace your current wireless router with an AEBS. You can then get either another AEBS or an AX to create the roaming network.

  • A2DP Bluetooth Music Streaming

I've been able to stream music from my iPhone through my car stereo via a Parrot MK6000 hands free Bluetooth device and an iCombi A2DP Bluetooth adapter (Buy at Oakley.com). The iCombi is an adapter for iPods that have the same dock connections as the iPhone so the device works perfectly.
The Parrot device handles the communication between the stereo and the phone, muting the music and allowing the call to be received, while the iCombi adapter provided the music streaming, again that is interrupted when a call comes in.
The biggest draw back is the that you can't charge the iPhone while you have the iCombi adapter attached.
The iCombi adapter also allows you to use Bluetooth headphones to listen to music.
This is a not a perfect configuration, I have experienced some glitches such as the music continuing to play while I receive a call, it still works well enough until Apple provides and update that embraces A2DP Bluetooth.
    Regards,
    Bob Petersen

A nice suggestion that I may go with but I'm still interested in finding a wireless solution. I'd like to get in my car with music already playing on the phone and have the car stereo pick it up and play through the speakers, then receive a phone call hearing the caller through the car speakers and use a mic in car that would work for my part of the call. All wirelessly. Thats how it works in my wife's car but she has bluetooth so I'm trying to duplicate the capability.

  • Outputing Raw Stream via airport express

What is the output of the airport express optical port? Is a raw stream of the original audio file?  thx

For the AirPort Express (AX), audio input is primarily provided by iTunes. Of course, it can also get input from other sources like Rogue Amoeba's Airfoil.
iTunes does most of the work. When iTunes plays back standard audio content (AAC, MP3, audiobooks, Internet music streams, etc., it decompresses those file formats and creates what's essentially a raw, uncompressed audio stream. That stream is compressed using Apple's Lossless Compression (via a QuickTime codec), encrypted, and then, streamed (via AirTunes/AirPlay) to the AX. The AX decrypts the stream, decodes it, and outputs it in either analog format or as a digital PCM stream.
If iTunes is playing back a digital multichannel file format like AC3 (Dolby Digital) or DTS, those bitstreams (like the lossy formats) are wrapped in Apple's Lossless compression, encrypted, and then, streamed to the AX. In these cases, the AX would first decode the stream, and then, output the raw AC3 or DTS stream via its optical digital audio port.

  • Trying to listen to a live music stream on Firefox....Help?

I'm new to this aspect of the internet, so here goes. I was given a port 8000 address for a live music stream by a trusted staff member of a chat site, along with everyone else, via global/general chat. According to chat, everyone else was hearing music via their web browser (Firefox for some, Chrome for others) but when I entered the given address into the address bar, it took me to a blank page (but with the port 8000 address still in the bar), and asked me if I wanted to open the "file" with windows media player or save it. I tried opening it first, eventually backed out and tried saving it, but both methods resulted in Firefox downloading an ever-expanding file, because it wasn't a preset file, but a live music stream being uploaded and played at the same time. I feel left out, because a few days later (and again after another few days) this person did some more live streams, and each time I got the same problem, only the first time it was on the old family desktop, and the second and third times it was on a new laptop. The desktop has Windows Vista, with a Celeron processor, and Firefox version 21.; the laptop had Windows 8 with a Dual Core processor, and also Firefox version 21.
Is there some setting I have to fix, or do I need a special add-on?

There has been a change in where Firefox searches for plugins and the plugins folder in the Firefox program folder is no longer scanned for plugins, so Firefox won't find them anymore if they are installed in the plugins folder instead of the "browser\plugins" folder that Firefox now scans.
You can set the plugins.load_appdir_plugins pref to true on the about:config page to make Firefox scan the "<install>/plugins/" directory for plugins like the WMP plugin (np-mswmp.dll).
You can alternatively move plugins from "<install directory>\plugins\" to "<install directory>\browser\plugins\" (create this folder when missing) to make Firefox find them again.

  • AirPort Express as both an Access Point and iTunes music streamer?

    Question:
Currently my cable modem stands next to my music-stereo and I have no wireless setup.
I would like to buy an AirPort Express to both stream music to the stereo and let me connect to the web wireless, at the same time. Is this possible?
So I will connect the Ethernet connector to my cable modem, connect the stereo jack to my stereo system and connect to my iMac wireless.
I would like to know if the AirPort Express is capable of doing this before I buy it. I cannot find a clear explanation about this online or in reviews.
Thank you very much in advance...
    Regards,
    Yves

decleene@..., Welcome to the discussion area!
Yes that is certainly possible. The AirPort Express (AX) is a full fledged wireless router which supports wireless printing (via USB printer) and wireless music streaming.
The only limitation to the AX is that it has a single Ethernet port and therefore doesn't support Ethernet clients.

  • Can an iPod touch be used for streaming via wifi from iTunes ?

    Hi,
I suspect the answer is 'No' but I'd love someone to tell me otherwise.
    Thanks
    -Mat

You can also use Tversity to stream audio and video content from your PC to the iPhone or iPod Touch.
    http://tversity.com/home
There are some crippling limitations, however:
    1) It appears that right now, all videos need to be transcoded to iPod format before they can stream. And unlike streaming via the Xbox or other devices, the transcoding has to completely finish before you can stream the video, whereas other devices allow you to transcode and stream on the fly.
    2) There doesn't appear to be a way to shuffle music or use playlists. So if you stream music, you can only play one song and then use the interface to select another... it won't keep playing from a playlist or automatically go to another song.
I can confirm, however, that the streaming does indeed work with the iPod Touch, not just the iPhone. I tried it myself and it worked, but the limitations above make it impractical for me to use regularly. Perhaps the folks at Tversity will be able to add more features over time.

  • Questions about Apple TV 2 as a music streamer

I'm thinking about picking up an Apple TV 2, with my main intention being to use it as an AirPlay music streamer, and I'd like to find out some specifics about how it behaves.  Specifically, I want to make sure it won't require me to turn on the TV before I can stream to it. Preferably I wouldn't even have to turn on the device itself.  So maybe you can tell me:
Does the Apple TV respond to AirPlay even when it's in standby mode, or do I have to turn it on with its remote before it appears as an AirPlay destination?
Do I have to navigate to some location in the menus before it appears as an AirPlay destination?
Can you turn the device on using the Remote app, or do you have to use the physical remote control?
    Thanks!

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
There are a large number of people that have noted that the Apple TV will not turn itself on unless a connected TV is also turned on and the correct input is selected.
There are others that have been able to play audio via a receiver without the TV being on. There are also others who have found that if they turn the TV on and start to stream audio from say iTunes on their computer that they can then turn the TV off again.
There doesn't seem any consistency to the reports I've seen and the assumption I have made in this matter is that it may depend on which TV is being used with the Apple TV (it may also depend on the receiver in use.

  • Local songs won't stream via Spotify after playing locally and being removed.

I have an external hard drive I use to store all the songs I own. For everything else, there's Spotify. Sometimes I unplug my external hard drive and play music that I own via Spotify instead. Spotify used to be able to clearly distinguish between these and integrate them seamlessly. But with the new update (0.8.8.450gd...), these are very confused. The moment I plugged in my hard drive and played a song on my playlist, it switched the file source from Spotify to local, and it will not change back. Even after I unplug my hard drive and restart Spotify, problem not solved. In addition, there is no way to know if I'm dragging a local file or a Spotify song to my playlists, which leaves all my playlists absolutely unreliable until this is fixed. It could stop at any time if I don't have my external drive plugged in, which is not ideal. Any help would be appreciated.

Same issue. This has always been a problem for me with Spotify, for the last few years.
I have a lot of CD-ripped lossless files in my iTunes, so it's great Spotify lets me play those higher quality versions. However, if my external HD with my iTunes library files on it is not connected (which is any time my laptop isn't at my desk), there is no way to play that music without permanently unlinking the file.
It's a crummy situation. Spotify will play music I never bought outright via CD just fine. But if Spotify ever gets a whiff of a file being part of the iTunes library, and that file is not able to be loaded at that moment, then it will refuse to let you stream the track. It makes no sense.
The solution to this is that Spotify should play local audio files for tracks when they are accessible, and stream them when they are not. That was part of the whole point of subscribing to a cloud-based music streaming service in the first place for me.
