Mustek A3 Scanner Leopard driver?

I have a Mustek A3 scanner, and although it says it is Mac OS X compliant, it isn't recognised by iPhoto. I resorted to installing its Windows driver and scanning software under Windows XP under VMWare, which works fine, but it would be nice if it worked under Leopard. Their website doesn't help. It is the 600 pro A3 USB scanner. I don't want to buy Photoshop just to scan the odd drawing.

See if VueScan supports it.

  • Unable to install twain driver for Epson scanner -- Leopard

I finally got the printer driver working for my Epson CX6600.
Downloaded the correct driver from the Epson website and all is fine.
But now my scanner won't work.
    The CX6600 is an all-in-one.
The Twain Scanner Driver was paired up in the same download.
However, after downloading the installer file I was unable to install it.
The cursor just spins and spins -- and I then get a repeated warning window asking if I want to open this software downloaded from the Internet.
I have to do a Force Quit to get out of the installer app.
    Ideas?
    Thanks,
    Danty

where you able to resolve this problem? I also have this problem. Can scan manually.

  • Mustek A3 scanner with Macbook?

    Hi all,
I've just bought a Mustek A3 SP scanner from ebay and have no idea how to connect it my Macbook (with Snow Leopard). There's an SCSI connector. Is there a cable I can buy to connect it via firewire or USB and will I need a driver from somewhere? It says that it's Mac compatible but obviously not Mac + idiot compatible.
    Thanks
    Gary

Joeuu: SCSI and parallel are not the same thing at all, though old PC parallel printers often used the same Centronics connector as SCSI devices for the Mac, and a fair number of people in the old days mistakenly tried to connect their PC printers to Macs using SCSI cables and were mystified when it didn't work.
Garyf111: To use that scanner, you would need a SCSI-to-FireWire adapter like this:
    http://macgurus.com/productpages/scsi/FR1SX.php
Then you'd also need to check the supported scanners list for Hamrick Software's VueScan driver and see whether your scanner model is listed. If it is, you'll need to buy VueScan:
    http://www.hamrick.com/vuescan/vuescan.htm#mustek
    http://www.hamrick.com/
This combination, if your scanner is supported at all, will cost you more than twice as much as any of a dozen current, inexpensive scanners that would all outperform your very old Mustek scanner. Don't waste your time or money trying to get that antique working with your MBP — it will cost you a lot of money and time to get it working, and then it will disappoint you badly.

  • Photoshop CS2 crashes when importing with Mustek A3 scanner

First off, yes, I know I have an old version of Photoshop. When I got my new Macbook a year or 2 ago I was only able to scan via TWAIN using Photoshop CS2, and it has been the best way.
However, lately the scanning has been buggy. I've had no problems using PS as a whole, but sometimes when I got to Import < ScanExpress A3 USB 1200 Pro it'll scan halfway and crash, or the program will just outright crash. Today I've spent about 2 hours just trying to scan one image. It managed to work once, and now it crashes every time I try scanning.
These are the specs of what I'm using:
    Mac OSX 10.6.7
    Photoshop CS2
    Mustek ScanExpress A3 USB Pro
Any help is appreciated. I need to use this scanner daily for work - If I can't get these images scanned then I don't get paid!
EDIT: Here's the crash report I get.

Perhaps a full uninstall will help. here is the link to the OSX uninstaller and drivers.
    http://www.mustek.com/mustek/supportdrivers.php?&show=drivers&disp_cat=Scanner&disp_sr=USB %20Port&disp_mod=ScanExpress%20A3%20USB%201200%20Pro&disp_catid=18&disp_srid=31&disp_modid =207
Then proceed to reinstall the OSX 10.6 driver for that scanner.

  • Yosemite compatibility with Mustek A3 Scanner

I was using the Image Acquire to import scans from my Mustek A3 1200 Pro usb series scanner when I was using Mountain Lion 10.8.
I recently decided I wanted to finally upgrade my OS to Yosemite 10.10. Now Image Acquire crashes when I try select my scanner.
Does anyone have any tips on how I can get scanning again? Mustek customer support says they'll release a Yosemite driver in about a month but I don't believe it. Mustek is bad about releasing drivers for Mac-- on their site they don't even have any for my scanner-- never did. All drivers I've ever found have been through other parties. So suggesting contacting the scanner company is off the table for me.
Is there another image acquire app or universal driver or some trick/ hack to get this scanner to work on this OS?

Vuex claims to have an all comers (types of scanners & computers) scanner printer, but surprise, NOT for the AE 2400S scanner, and they say they have no plans to do so. Hrumph.

  • Can I attach Mustek EPP scanner to Powerbook G4 OSX 10.5?

I have an older Mustek A3 EP 11 x 17 flatbed scanner that I hate to retire. It requires parallel port connection. Mustek provides no Mac OS software for this (although they do for later usb scanners).
To try and get this to work I have tried:
    1. insert cardbus to expresscard adapter
    2. insert expresscard to parallel port adapter into cardbus adapter
    3. attach parallel cable from scanner
    4. try to run image capture app
Image Capture says no scanner attached.
However, I can attach my HP LaserJet K80 printer by the parallel connection and it works. (It also has a usb connection, which of course I'm using - but the point is that the cardbus-expresscard parallel adapter route seems to work for printing.
Surely there's some way to get this functioning???
    Thanks.

Hi, oharamj. I have no idea whether your scanner will ever work with your Mac, but I know it won't work without any driver. Your printer has a Mac driver, which is why it works.
The solution to most "I can't run my antique scanner any more!" problems is Hamrick Software's VueScan, a fine professional-quality third party driver. But it's not the answer for you:
"VueScan supports more than 1200 different scanners on Windows, 930 scanners on Mac OS X and 580 scanners on Linux. These scanners are organized by vendor name below.
"Please note that not all scanners work with all operating systems or SCSI/USB/Firewire interfaces, but most combinations are known to work. The best way to find out for sure if VueScan works with your scanner, operating system and interface is to download the trial version of VueScan from www.hamrick.com.
"Note that if the vendor software needs to be installed before VueScan will work, then VueScan won't work with these scanners on Windows x64 - these libraries are 64-bit and VueScan can't call 64-bit libraries. However, most supported scanners will work well with Windows x64.
"Please note that VueScan only works with SCSI, USB and Firewire connections, and *doesn't work with wireless connections or parallel-port connections*.
"On Mac OS X, VueScan works with most USB to SCSI converters, including the Adaptec USBXchange and USB2Xchange. VueScan also works with most Firewire to SCSI converters. You don't need to install any vendor software to get this to work. Only one SCSI device per converter is supported, and you should use SCSI ID 0."
Of course you could install Windows emulation software, a copy of Windows, and a Windows driver for your scanner on your Powerbook, and then you might be able to use the scanner — at the glacial speed of Windows in emulation on a PowerPC Mac. But you could also buy a used Windows laptop to use as a scanning station for much less than that would cost in time and money.
But I know for certain that you can replace the scanner with a new and much better one for less than either of the other alternatives would cost, if you can make do with an 8.5" by 11" unit.

  • What's the best way to use a cloned Snow Leopard drive with an iBook?

My aging and ailing MacBook Pro is going in for Apple Care.
I've made a clone of its hard drive and would like to keep working this week using an iBook G4.  Alas, an external drive with Snow Leopard will not boot from an iBook.  I did format the drive as an Apple Partition Map, so I can see it from the iBook and work with its files--but it will not start up from it.
I forsee screw-ups as I work with some programs and files on the iBook and others off the hard drive.  Eudora, e.g., requires its In Box and Out Boxes to reside on the boot drive; many of my favorite programs take their settings from the start up computer, not the external drive.  That means there will be all sorts of settings-- e.g., Word,  Excel's, iKey's --that will need setting on the iBook or copying over to it.
Alternatively, I could downgrade the external drive to Leopard or even Tiger so I can boot from it and work with the files that way.   I think that will require having to reformat the external drive--which means no direct  cloning of the MBP drive to it!  It also would preclude an easy 1-step restore (I'd have to clone it back to the MBP and then upgrade to SL).
Unsure which way makes the most sense-- or if there's another way I haven't thought of.  I do have additional hard drives to play with (e.g., I made another SL clone of the entire MBP drive).
    Any ideas, suggestions welcome!

    AstroMacMan wrote:
Appreciate that extra tidbit, although that's not exactly true, is it?  I mean, I had a cloned Leopard MBP and a cloned Tiger hard drive that do boot from the iBook!
If we could distinguish and separate the hardware drivers, download them from Apple etc., then it could be said we can use a clone on another model of Mac provided: A, B and C are met.
But since Apple has changed from OS 9 to OS X, PowerPC 32 bit to 64 bit, PowerPC to to Intel 32 bit, Intel 32 bit to 64 bit, locks the drivers to certain install disk versions and changes hardware around constantly, including changing the OS and making it not run on earlier versions of hardware, sideways stuff like A4/A5 processors, causing such a cluster mess of confusion and obscuration that it's better to say NOT than trying to find the tiny possibilities that it can happen.
If it does happen, lucky you, likely won't happen for any duration worth relying upon.

  • HP 2420dn printer - Tray 3 is missing from new Snow Leopard Driver

I am a physician and have plain paper in tray 2 and NYS preprinted prescriptions in tray 3. This was working fine with leopard. After the upgrade I cannot find tray 3. Tray 3 is enabled on the printer configuration and it shows up on the Web configuration tray correctly.
    When I go to:
    Preferences/Options% Supplies/Driver
There is a check box for duplex unit
fit to page drop down menu
total printer memory drop down menu
But NO check box for tray 3.
I have other HP laserjet printers in my medical office 2340 etc and they are all working fine with tray 3.
I upgrated to Snow Leopard correctly using a CD and then did a software update that contained new printer drivers.
I have rebooted the printer, my computer.
What is going on? Is the new printer driver for HP 2420 dn defective?
Is there a work around. Generic printer drivers also don't have this extra tray 3
    HELP!....please

I have found a work-around. The printer driver for 2340 works just fine! I don't know if I am doing any harm by using the wrong printer driver. Clearly, there is a bug that needs to be fixed in the 2420dn driver for Snow Leopard

  • HP PSC6180 leopard driver issue

I am unable to select anything from the lower half of the print driver window options, that is from "Paper Type/Quality" through "Print Driver Information". The choices are there, but when they are selected the drop down menu returns to say "Layout". I am working via Bonjour, and I had no problems with anything under 1.4.10 and the old driver. The printer works great printing documents on plain paper, but I can't select any other options. (for example, no more 4x6" prints, not photo quality settings on my Photosmart printer, etc.)

I was seeing exactly the same problems with the latest Leopard download from the HP website. I am using a C5180 and 10.5.1 on a MacPro.
I have now found an install method which works for me, on my MacPro and on my 24" iMac.
I downloaded both packages from the HP website, the large 204.5MB file and the tiny 160KB file (which appears to be an update that modifies the supported paper types).
From reading on various forums about this printer and Windows, it appears that the HP drivers have trouble when the printer get it's IP address dynamically, and that dynamic address changes on a subsequent powerup of the printer. It seems that the address is stored in the registry, and then the driver doesn't update it properly when the printer gets given a new one. It seems that HP haven't quite twigged to the concept of 'dynamic' when it comes to DHCP. In order to ensure that I wasn't seeing the same problem under MacOSX, I configured my router to always hand out the same IP address to the printer. You could also setup the printer to have a static IP address on it's control panel.
I then ran the 'HP Installer' from the large download, and sure enough the printer pops up in the install dialogue and is recognised by Bonjour. Select the printer, and proceed with the install.
When it comes to the part where you have to open the Print+Fax dialogue, this is where I think I went wrong previously. When you click on the plus symbol to add the printer, almost immediately the dialogue shows the printer as recognised by Bonjour. DO NOT select the Bonjour instance of the printer, but wait a few seconds (about 20, I've found) and another printer will show up. On my system, it shows as HPC6BDB9 with type of 'Network Printer (HP IP)'.
Select the 'HP IP' printer, and then proceed with the install.
Once the install finishes successfully, then install the other smaller update.
You should now have a printer with all functionality.
From examining the tcpdump output between the MacPro and the printer, it's clear that you will get limited functionality if you use the Bonjour instance. This is because the driver appears to connect using a more limited IP printing command set. This command set appears to lack some of the functions present in the HPIP protocol.
    Hope this helps.
    Andy.

  • Cannot See Leopard Drive from OS 9

I have a G4MDD running OS 9.2.2 and Tiger on two partitions of one drive and Leopard on the other drive. In the Startup Disk list on OS 9 I can see Tiger but not Leopard. So to reboot from OS 9 to Leopard I have to use the Option Key to bring up all drives, a slow and tedious process. How can I make Leopard show up in the OS 9 Startup Disk list so that I can directly reboot fro OS 9 to Leopard?

Apple System profiler under Mac OS X will show whether Mac OS 9 drivers are installed on a drive. If no OS 9 drivers are installed, it may not be visible in OS 9.
This probably does not apply to you, but while we are on the subject I want to mention that you may also need the latest version of Startup Disk Control Panel:
Mac OS X, Mac OS 9: Use Current Startup Disk Control Panel or Mac OS 9.2.2

  • How to copy and replace new Mountain Lion hard drive with old Snow Leopard drive?

So far I have not found an answer to my question, so I am hoping that this is feasible.
A while ago I purchased a used 2010 Macbook Pro running Snow Leopard that did not have the installer disc. A week ago the hardware died on me, so I replaced it with a new 2012 Macbook Pro running Mountain Lion.
The problem is that I purchased a 1 TB aftermarket HD for my old Macbook Pro and want to replace the current smaller hard drive in my new computer with it. I've already run Time Machine and put all of my data in my new computer so I figured that it would be possible to simply copy that disk image back over to my old drive and replace it. However the computer showed that they weren't compatible. When I tried to put my old hard drive in my new computer there was not a bootable OSX available.
Since Mountain Lion already came on my new computer I do not have an installer that I can use.
Is there anyway I can copy the current Mountain Lion information from my new hard drive and basically have a fully functioning, bootable copy on my old hard drive that I can put back into my new computer?
    Thank you.

Well, if you put the HDD from the old Mac into an external enclosure you can use a tool like Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper! to clone the Mountain Lion installation onto the 1TB drive.  If you go this route, I would suggest you consider using CCC as it does have the option to clone the Repair Partition as well as the boot volume.
Another route you could take would be to put the 1TB drive into the new MBP, and then boot to the Internet Recover .  From there you can re-partition the drive and install Mountain Lion clean on the 1TB drive.  During the installation process, you will have the option to use the Migration Assistant to migrate your data & apps.  You can use your Time Machine backup for that, or if you have the original drive in an enclosure, you can migrate directly from the external drive.  I have used this latter method myself a few times.

  • HP Photosmart 8450: use Leopard driver, or do I install HP's software?

I've successfully installed the HP Photosmart 8450 by just attaching it to the Leopard Mac, and the Mac recognizes the printer and picks the right driver.
However, it seems this is just the driver alone, and does not come with the interface that provides multitudes of printing options -- i.e. the interface that I get when I use the Photosmart 8450 when printing on Windows XP.
I managed to download this massive driver from HP's website, 127.5 MB entitled "HPPhotosmart_Installer10.2-10.4.dmg". I suspect that file contains all the bells and whistles that HP provides along with the print driver.
However, HP's website refers to this driver as 10.4 compatible, and doesn't mention 10.5 Leopard.
My question is, now that my Mac is printing to Leopard, should I now install this driver that I obtained from the HP website.
Ok, I'm rattled. I've spent the last week, with 2 sleepless nights, fighting the blue screen, getting Leopard to finally work. Now that it is working great, I am paranoid about doing something that will sink the ship. (No, Apple, it doesn't just work anymore). Hence, I want to see if others have installed this because taking the plunge.

    p/s
    I managed to find them.
e.g. let's say I am printing a Safari webpage. When I go to the PRINT screen, there is a pulldown menu that says SAFARI. If you pull down that menu, all the printing options are there.
When I try printing from other applications e.g. Microsoft Word, the PRINT screen has a pulldown menu where all the printer settings are accessible. The pulldown menu is not given an external title, and there seems to be no logic as to what its default item is, but the pulldown menu is there.
Not very user-friendly display, but I managed to find it.

  • MP640 scanner navigator driver problehmo - please help me PAHU

Hi ( Pahu are you there?),
I recently added more memory to my MacBook Pro.  When I next went to scan some docs using the MP Navigator, I got the message the drivers are not installed.  I have reinstalled the the Canon Pixma MP640 CD Rom, and the driver here http://support.apple.com/kb/DL899 . ( Should I have shut down and re-opened?)
Please note I am wishing to continue my wireless use of the scanner.  PS:  Printing is working fine.  Just can't open the scanner navigator.  Happy to use an alternate scanner navigator.
Thanks in advance for your help.
    GT

Hello again Gypsy Tia. Seems odd that adding memory caused you this trouble but if computers always did what they are supposed to do then I would be out of a job
To use MP Navigator you need the TWAIN scanner driver installed. The scanner driver included with the Canon Update provided via Apple Software Update contains an ICA driver, which works fine with Image Capture and Preview but not with MP Navigator. And as for the included CD, the driver was probably for 10.5, not 10.6.
So the driver you need is this v15.5.2. With this driver installed the scanner can be configured via the Preferences section of the MP Navigator.
Hope this gets you scanning again. Reply if you still need help.

  • Canon MP560 Scanner Twain Driver Not Working

I have a Canon MP560 MFP and for some reason the Scanner does not show up in applications like Image Capture or Preview. However, it works fine with Canon's MP Navigator 3.0. I downloaded and installed the latest Canon driver software for that Printer for 10.6 but that didn't seem to make any difference. I have tried turning off the printer and turning it back on. I use it wirelessly only and before the latest Canon printer update it all worked fine. Now it can print fine wirelessly and it can scan wirelessly only if I use Canon's MP Navigator, which I do not prefer to use for simple scanning tasks.
    In Library/CFM Support I have a BJExtDDI.cfm and a TWAIN Source Manager.Shlb file.
What is missing here? This used to work fine.

The scanning via Image Capture or Preview uses the ICA driver. This is included with the [Canon driver update|http://support.apple.com/kb/DL899] available from Apple. The Canon scanner driver supports the scanning via MP Navigator but not Image Capture or Preview and the ICA driver does not support this application.
So it sounds like you have a problem with the ICA driver. This driver package is located in HD > Library > Image Capture > Devices > CanonIJScanner1. You could try installing the [ICA v1.7.0 driver|http://support-au.canon.com.au/contents/AU/EN/0100213301.html] which will update this package.
If that doesn't help then can you confirm if you can see the scanner if you select to add it to Print & Fax. If you select to Add the wireless MP560 should be seen twice in the Default view - first as a Bonjour Scanner and then a bit later as canonijnetwork.
FYI - Another postee found that he was not able to locate the scanner component via wireless, while the printer component was still working fine via wireless.
