My 4th Gen. iPod has a HUGE problem

i have the iPod with the scroll wheel... (or maybe its called the click wheel) anyways i bought it back in Dec. of 2004... so NOW it wont scroll... i can go through the top of every menu... but i cant scroll down to...for ex. go to a different artist... so idk what to do... i have restored the iPod to factory settings... i have reset it... ive run out of options... i think its just being weird... idk... does anyone have any suggestions? let me know!

It could also be a moisture issue. If it's been either very cold or very humid lately, you may have condensation inside you iPod. This means the touch wheel will be affected. Just let it dry if this is the case...

  • My 4th gen ipod has ghosts

my daughters 4th gen ipod has a mind of it's own. it types, pulls up apps, changes pages, without us even touching the screen. Also most of the time screen seems locked up and when we press a tab, either a differant one is chosen by itself. I have reset the network and also held down home and power to do that reset and it still is doing it. Any suggestions?

"Nuts!" Did you retore to back up or new iPod? If not to new then try that. If problem continues maybe hardware. Set up an appointment with your Apple Genius Bar and have your iPod evaluated. Good luck.

  • 4th Gen iPod and WinXP SP1 Problem

I could not find the answer for this on the support page, and sorry in advanced if it has been asked before. I've had my 4th gen click wheel iPod since last November and it has always been wroking fine for me, until today, when I decided it was time to update the firmware. I decided to do a restore to clean off all the songs before starting (since I have them all on my HD anyway). But when restoring it with the updater, it just went for about 10 seconds, and then said it could not continue. I tried it again and still the same thing. Now i am getting the folder with the exclamation mark icon. The updater restore keeps failing and I don't know what to do

I was having the same problem with facetime just now and found this video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nHBlxlSnlAQ
It says to reset the DNS to 8.8.8.8,8.8.4.4
The comma is not a typo.  As soon as I did this, my facetime started working.  I had previously tried resetting the DNS to just 8.8.4.4, but that did not work.
I have not tried to use imessage so I don't know if it fixed anything with that.

  • I have a 8gb A1288 (2nd Gen) ipod touch having huge problem during update, please help

I have a 8gb A1288 (2nd Gen) ipod that has been working fine till now. The device asked for a software update and downloaded the necessary software. During the update process; however, something happened and the computer started not recognizing the device now. On the device screen there is a symbol asking for me to connect the cable to itunes but even if I connect it to the computer, the device is not recognized. Resetting the device didn't solve the problem. Could you please help?

    Hello!
Tried DFU mode? This stands for Device Firmware Update and/or Download Firmware Upgrade.
This is how to put your device into DFU:
    1. Connect to A computer with iTunes open, Turn off (Whilst still connected)
    2. Hold Home + Sleep/wake together for 10 seconds.
    3. Let go of sleep wake BUT keep holding home for 10 seconds.
This shoould result in a message on your PC/Mac screen. Follow the steps and it should work. Let me know of the results.

  • My 4th Gen iPod Touch has my location wrong

My 4th Gen iPod Touch that runs iOS 5, has my location way wrong.
On the weather app, maps app, other apps, and icloud it shows my location is some house in Columbia, SC.
The problem is, is I don't live anywhere near Columbia,SC! I live in Jacksonville,FL! So my question is, is why is my iPod doing this, and how can I fix it?

The iPod get its location from where the Apple database thinks your router is located.  (Was your router ever in Columbia SC?).  In any case, sometimes Apple 's database is incorrect.  There is nothing you can do about it.  Apple should eventually correct it.

I've had this 4th gen ipod for more then a year. I have read all of the troubleshooting pages and yet to find a solution.
It worked when I purchased it and I was charging it like normal and left it charge to the AC adapter while at work. I came back from work and then it stopped working

EDIT: It appears that when Ipod is not connected to computer Folder Icon with exclamtion point appears.
When Connected to computer Battery Icon Appears.
-Battery Not Charging and won't hold charge
-Ipod rarely passes these two errors (*) When it does and it is connected to the computer "Do not dissconnect message appears". Computer Recognizes it for less then 2 seconds and then ipod restarts.

Cure 1: Charge the iPod. Be sure you're charging it from a working power source. An iPod will not charge when it's attached to a sleeping computer.
If your iPod is locked up, unlock it and reset it. Reset it by holding down the Play and Select button for about six seconds.
If your iPod won't charge even after your iPod has been plugged into a power receptacle for a long time, try a different cable. A damaged cable may prevent the iPod from charging. (Don't have a spare cable? Apple stores are really handy, take your iPod in and just plug it into one of the cables they've got lying around to see if that does it.
If that doesnt work, the battery may be dead. Get it replaced.

  • 4th gen ipod, need help on what has gone wrong...

i have a 4th gen ipod, bought less than a year ago still under warranty. the ipod service site for some reason is having trouble with my billing address for the shipping charges. when i type in my billing address (which is the same as my shipping address), it says "more than one jurisdiction possible (0,0)).
    ANYWAY
the problem with my ipod is that, a couple weeks ago, the ipod seemed to not be holding that great of a charge, but no big deal. than it reset itself a couple of times within short periods of usage. then, the ipod will not work without a power source, or when its plugged into an outlet. only when plugged into a usb port. i get the ipod update software, install it, then it tells me to plug the ipod into a wall outlet.
NOW, it cannot be recognized by the computer, no charge, and when i press a button to "wake" it, it just shows me a screen with a picture of a wall outlet. i left it plugged into the outlet all weekend. NOTHING.
oh, and when it would only charge with the usb port, every once in a while the computer would have a pop up that says "the usb hardware you have just plugged in has malfunctioned".
since i am having trouble with the ipod service, suggestions? this sound like a dead battery? if it is, i might take a chance and install it myself so i dont have to wait so long for it to be serviced.
thanks and p.s. i dont proofread my posts (habit)

Get a new battery put in it.

  • Does iPod (4th gen) have a battery life problem?

I have had my 4th gen iPod for less than 2 years (was a replacement after the screen was cracked. Was purchased at an actual Apple Retail store).  I am now finding that it won't hold a charge. I have tried 4 different cords (including the original cords from the original and the replacement iPod) plus 2 other iPod compatible cords and plug it in every night, only to find out that 6 out of 7 days it still reads as having a low battery (at 20% battery life). I am pretty sure it is not the cords. In addition, lately I have been getting messages about the temperature (being either too hot or too cold). I do not leave my iPod in the sun or in my car EVER, yet I've gotten messages about the battery being too hot (even when it was in an air conditioned house for several hours) and now I am getting messages about it being too cold (it is freezing outside, but the iPod has been inside and does not even feel cold to the touch).
I would update it to the new version, but it requires 50% power to do so, and I can't get enough power to it (even when it is plugged in for hours, it still doesn't show enough battery life).
I have an appointment at the genius bar next week, but thought I would ask if anyone else is having this/these problem(s) and what they did to resolve the issue  Thanks.

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem. I suspect a hardware problem because of the high temp warning.

  • White Lock Screen Problem On 4th Gen. iPod Touch.

I'm having an EXTREMELY fustrating problem with my 4th gen iPod touch (32gb). I have owned my iPod Touch for almost a year and a half now and I haven't had any problems with it until now. I updated to the new iOS 6 and didn't have any problems with it for about two weeks. But after the two week mark, I started having a white screen on my lock screen. I would press the sleep/wake button to make it lock again and pressed it to turn the screen back on and it would go away, (so that's when I thought, "eh, minor glitch, they'll fix it...). But it has been a month now and it has gotten SO much worse it's not even funny... I will have to compromise with pushing the sleep/wake button about 30 times before it will show my lock screen. But after I got it unlocked everything worked absolutley flawless. Now ever since last night I can't get the white screen to go away!!! keep in mind, I have restored it TWICE and still have the same problem. I know I am buying the new iPod Touch but I still think, even though I am out of the yearly warranty, that I should get either an apple 'fixer' to fix it for me for free or an exchange for either the same exact model iPod or the new 5th gen. I never have had such a problem with Apple until now and would expect paying $300 for a brand-new iPod Touch should last me atleast more than a lowsey year and a half...

    Try:
    - Reset the iPod. Nothing will be lost
Reset iPod touch: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPod.
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

I have a 4th gen iPod touch. It has been plugged in for hours but it won't charge or turn on. I cannot restore it because it won't show up in iTunes. I have tried pressing and holding the home and/or the power key but that does not work as well. I have tried restarting Apple Mobile Support. I have updated my iTunes.
