My 5800 likes to connect to internet for no appare...

My phone will connect to my WLAN at home for no apparent reason (as in I'm not using the any application which requires interweb) and when I get annoyed and disconnect from that because it is just EATING my battery it think "Jesus there's no internet connection" panics then connects via gprs or whatever. Now I turned off the email program because it is eating my battery constantly being connected and am having to charge it every night! But is there any way of making it so that it only connects when the program is open? Any thoughts?

Set all your destinations to ask first, when it asks, say no. same with options on browser.
Good Luck

  • 6630 wont connect to internet for my tomtom one

any suggestions please as to why my 6630 wont connect to the internet for my tomtom one satnav, the bluetooth connection is ok but the tomtom error message says there is no wireless internet connection available, my network provider is 3G and my phone connects to the internet itself ok

That's probably because '3' (Hutchison) operates in a so called "walled garden" mode/model, where they only allow access to their own services, or very select sites/services on the Internet.
So, ask '3' to open up their network, or change to a different operator are your options, more or less.

It sounds like you are using apps that were purchased using a different Apple ID than the one currently defined on your device.  Purchased apps are forever associated with the ID used to purchase them - could that be the problem?

  • To buy or not to buy an entry level 13in MBP? Have a 30in display I would like to connect it to for photo editing and a little video. Any advice?

In the last year the logic board in both my 17in MBP (5yrs old) and Mac Pro (4yrs old) have died.  The local techies have advised due to cost and age that replacing them would not be worth it in the long run.
I am thinking to buy the most basic MBP and connecting it to my 30in cinema display would give me the best of both worlds - a desktop option when at home and a laptop for travelling.  Is this a viable option?  I would be using it for photo editing (photoshop) mainly and a little video editing with Final Cut Pro when connected to the cinema display and a little light internet usage, emails and such when on the go.
My other question is, do all MBP come with airport/wireless capabilities as standard?  (I had to purchase airport separately when I bought the other computers.
    Thanks in advance

The 13" MBP is c**p, it's a consumer MacBook quality in a silver case with a "Pro" sticker, comes with poor integrated graphics that overheat when it even looks at a web video, all shiny screens poor for video. Scores a mere 11 on Cinebench.
Like Sig said, 15" 2.0 (scores 18) or better, 2.2 (scores a decent 30) or better preferred, it has the hefty video card you need to power the external monitor.
also you get a anti-glare option, excellent for avoiding glare and reflections in portable uses.
also you may need the quad core i7 for processing video faster, dual cores are toast.
    17" high res has true 1920 x 1080 (1080i) with it's 1920 x 1200 pixel screen, I've got one. Sweet.
Sad to hear you have been having such a bad run with Mac's, it used to be they lasted 5-7 years or longer easy.

  • 5800 won't connect to internet over wifi

Ok, my 5800 xm will not connect to the internet via my netgear dg834gt router . The phone connects to the wifi connection but it will not load up a web page .
It will work via 3g .
I've been through the routers settings and the phones mac address is there and is set for access the same as my pc (which is working fine) .
    Anyone help ?
    Thanks
PS I've cleared the cache apart from saved passwords and done a soft reset . It's running on v5 software .

If the phone will connect to another wi-fi then its not the phone .
You could try a reset .
    1. *#7780# - Restore factory settings - resets all the settings to the default ( you will not lose any data)
    2. *#7370# - Reformat your phone
Lose all data so back up first
    default reset code 12345

  • Unable to Connect to Internet for 10+ Minutes after iMac Wakes Up

This has been driving me crazy and any help would be appreciated. Apple has referred me to my ISP and my ISP has referred me to Apple. Every time my IMac (Intel Core 2 Duo) is awakened from Sleep, it takes around 10 minutes for it to connect to the internet. I'm using an ethernet cable to connect the Imac directly to my modum. If I use the same cable with my PC, it connects instantly. Once I'm on the internet (with the iMac) I have no problems. I never get booted off. It's only when the iMac has been asleep and needs to reconnect. I've seen similar problems on the boards but the solutions don't seem to take care of my issue. In System Preferences, my Location shows "Automatic" and Configure IPv4 shows "Using DHCP." I've restarted countless times and have reinstalled the operating software to no avail. Any ideas?

    Hi,
Do you have the Airport card still turned on?? If it is, then turn it off and this may speed things up a lot if your computer is trying to check a local wifi network.
When this happens, does it sort it if you remove the ethernet cable, and then put it back in? It may be that your router thinks the machine is still active, and your machine is trying to connect afresh. This has the router thinking you are asking to be connected twice, and the Mac thinking it isn't connected at all.
Let us know if any of this makes sense.
    Karn.

  • 5800 won't connect to internet - help!

My 5800XM has stopped connecting to the internet.  If I go to, say the Ovi Store, I get the frot page, but instead of going to the Store, it returns to the previous screen.  The same happens with other websites, too.
The phone usually asks how I wish to connect - WAP, wireless network and so on, but it is no longer doing so.  I do hope I have just inadvertently changed a setting or something, as I have just got my phone back from being repaired, which took nearly 3 weeks...!
Any advice very much welcomed!  Thank you.

No, I'm afraid not. My phone died completely for the 2nd time shortly after it stopped connecting to web pages. I tried everything suggested by chanchan05 and jjegan. I am going to be getting a new phone (another 5800XM) in the next few days, with any luck.
Can you get on to any websites at all? I was able to go on to Youtube, and occasionally ovi mail, but absolutely nothing else. The fact that I was able to get on to those suggested that it wasn't the internet settings as such, but something inside the phone wasn't allowing me to get on to most sites.
Is yours doing the same thing as mine, by returning to the screen from which you select the internet after a brief pause? Mine did, for a day, work well, asking me if I wanted to connect via WAP, the service provider's gubbins or by wifi, but it soon gave up even asking.

  • MacBook Air connects to WiFi but can't connect to internet for about 5 minutes

I have a MacBook Air running Yosemite and whenever I wake it from sleep or turn it on it says it's connected to wifi, but it's usually about 5 minutes before anything will load.
    • Happens on multiple wifi networks
         • and doesn't happen to other devices on those networks
    • Been going on for ages (since Mavericks)
    • Diagnostics says nothing's wrong
    • Still happens on other users and in safe mode.
Does this happen to anyone else / does anybody know a way around it?

    Hi jamang1999,
For that specific issues where you are connected to the internet after waking your MacBook Air up from sleep and it is not connecting to the internet, then take a look at the article below to troubleshoot the issue further. There is a section called Symptom: After restarting or waking from sleep, my computer might not connect to the Internet and go through those troubleshooting steps to see if it continues afterwards. I know that the troubleshooting is for OS X lion and previous version of OS X but the troubleshooting is still relevant. If it does not work and are still experiencing issues, then you may need to contact Apple for additional support.

  • Not connected to internet for app

I am trying to connect to scan and upload a document. to the box.net app. I have done this successfully many times, but today my HP 6500 is saying I'm not connected to the internet. I know that it is connected becuase I just downloaded another document from the web and printed it.

Never mind. I deleted my box.net login on the HP 6500 and reentered it. That cleared the problem and allowed me to scan and upload.

  • N8 Auto connect to WAN for no apparent reasons

    Hi All,
I have noticed that for some unknown reasons my phone will auto connect to WAN.
I have absolutely no idea why it is doing so and have confirmed that there is some data transfer.
Is there any way to check which programs is connecting to WAN?
Can anyone recomend system settings which can prevent this from happening?
    Thanks.
WAN settings is currently set to manual and always ask. - Though it still auto connect when using programs like the browser
    Widgets: offline mode.
My Nokia: On.  Can this be the cause?

    Welcome to Apple's discussion groups.
I'd guess that's due to a glitch in your broadband service. You should be able to identify why the Extreme isn't happy by launching AirPort Utility, putting the Extreme into "manual setup" mode, then clicking on the "Status" circle.

  • I have an I Pad 1 with 64 gigs. It constantly drops me off the Internet for no apparent reason. Is there any fix for this problem?

My I Pad 1 constantly drops me off the Internet and programs. Is there any fix for this problem?  It started after the last update and continues to get worse.
    Doug

First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.

    Hi,
    I have 2 network interface.
The eth1 is for test only. It is connected to a 8 port LAN switch, and there are 2 NAS connected to this switch.
I use eth2 to connect to internet, for example, update system. I try to disable eth1, but it is still not work.
