My airport connection spontaneously turns off...

My airport connection just turns off all of a sudden. And then it won't turn back on when I try to "turn airport on". The only thing I have found to work is restarting my computer.
It happens when I am running p2p, and today it happened several times while running "MozyHome" data backup service.
Does anyone know what might be happening?

Hi again. I just did an erase and install on my mac to clear up the problem. Then I installed a p2p called Transmission, Skype, Firefox, and VLC video player.
Once again I am having the same problem with my airport just shutting off, not able to turn back on and have to restart. It looks like limewire wasn't the problem. I searched about Transmission and everything I've read is positive. I'm going to go the apple store and ask if they know what's happening.

Click the Wi-Fi icon in your Mac's menu bar.
If it looks like this, it's off:
Click it and select Turn Wi-Fi On.
If it looks like this, it's already on but something else is wrong:

  • Why does my ipod touch 5th generation spontaneously turn off

My iPod touch 5th gen recently did the latest software update, just yesterday. Then this morning, while battery was fully charged, it spontaneously turned off. I had just looked at my email like 2 minutes previously, then when I picked it up again and hit the home butten, nothing. It had turn off and we had to do the reset by holdint the home button and power button at the same time to get it to turn on.  Is this a software update glitch?  It has never done this before. Or is there something wrong with my iPod?

Things like that just happen some times.  If it recurs

Does the ext directory have the php_oci8.dll? In the original steps the PHP dir is renamed. In the given php.in the extension_dir looks like it has been updated correctly. Since PHP distributes php_oci8.dll by default I reckon there would be a very good chance that the problem was somewhere else. Since this is an old thread I don't think we'll get much value from speculation.

Mostly it happens when there is no open software and it's in the sleep mode (because it spends more time like that), but it has happened while I'm working. It just suddenly quits.

This is a suspicious sign of power supply failure. I would have that checked into. Others who have had similar problems have had the power supplies replaced which fixed the issue.

  • Is it possilble to have Ethernet connection automatically turn off airport

I would like to have airport turn off when I connect an Ethernet cable. Is this possible and if so how would I accomplish it?

No, but you can change the order, such as when ethernet is plugged in, it will use that for your internet connection over the wireless.
You can change this in your network settings.

  • Web Services spontaneous turning off on Color LaserJet CM4540 MFP

We are using ePrint on four seperate Color LaserJet CM4540 Multifunction printers in a business environment where we elected to activate ePrint in order to allow wireless printing for our iPhone and iPad users. We were able to set it up and get it working, and for the most part it works great! Users testing the functionality are using the HP ePrint for Home and Biz app and so far they've reported no loss of formatting for the documents they are printing - but there is one problem:
So far two of the printers have dropped (turned off) Web Services for no apparent reason.
Administrative functioning on the machines is password protected so it isn't possible for one of the clients to just come in and turn off Webservices. Only IT team members have the access password. I don't believe that any of us are turning off web services, so the impression is that they are spontaneously deactivating.
Two other bits of relevant information:
    1) I am able to easily re-activate web services and assign a new eprint email address to the printer...
    2)  I'm not able to reassign the first eprint email address to the printer because the HP ePrint website automatically places lost/disgarded email addresses on hold for 6 months to reduce the chance of people mistakenly sending documents to someone else's printer.
Therein lies the crux of the problem: because we are in a business user environment, every time I have to assign a new email address to the printer, I'm forced to update the documentation for the end users reflecting the addresses of the printers, and to inform the users who are already using the service of the new address.
I need to figure out a way to either 1) prevent the web service from shutting down, or 2) retain the same email address in the event that it does shut down, or both.
    Any suggestions?

    Hi Sumiko, With pleasure
Frankly, i am not familier with the secondary DHCP structure of the device as i am more focused on consumer products, however the logic still remains the same... As long as DHCP can be maintaned, i cannot see any reason why the static IP will fail as the connectivity remain the same, therefore i would recommend you to disable the secondary DHCP in order to avoid any firewall blocks after forwarding the ports.
The port forwarding should be assigned from the router or the server, depanding on your network structure.
If you are using a more complex network envoirnment by using any server, VPN, switch, etc. you will need to contact your IT administrator to configure the port forwarding
However if you are using a simpler network , please let me know the router model, i will gladly try to assist you locating the steps for your envoirnment.

  • Airport won't turn off

Hi there, I hope I'm posting this in the right forum. My airport has been giving me trouble on and off. It's fine right now but sometimes it will just stop working. I won't be able to connect to any networks even though if I click on the airport icon I can see a few of them there. If I try to click on one it hangs for a bit and then doesn't connect. If I try to click on the airport icon and click turn airport off it does the same thing, hangs for a bit but then won't turn off.
If I try to go to network preferences it also hangs but this won't stop unless I got and force it to quit.
Finally, if I try to shutdown or restart the computer it starts to shutdown, gets to the point where all i see is my desktop but then hangs until I have to hold down the power button to turn it off.
When I turn it back on it seems to work fine but then a while later might randomly do the same thing again.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello dathascome. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
It sounds like you might have a corrupted configuration file or driver with your OS X installation. I suggest the first thing to try is to create a new user account; log off of your existing account, and then, log back on with the new account.
    Did this correct the problem?

  • Airport will not turn off and is acting strange

my airport has recently been doing something strange. According to the status bar icon, it is turned on but has a weak signal(greyed bars rather than black) when you click the icon it says the airport is turned off and gives the option to turn it on. I then open internet connect and it says it is turned on and gives me the option to turn it off. I have tried to turn it off, it won't. It also says that the network is unavailable, while in network it says I am connected. Through all of this, I am still able to connect to the internet. Main problem being, I can't turn it off.

Is this an airport extreme or express? I would advise resetting it. If that does not resolve I would powercycle both the airport and the modem. Still not resolved, I would do a hard reset on the base station.

  • Airport keeps randomly turning off and wont turn back on!

    Hey guys,
I've had this problem for a while now and it is driving me CRAZY!
I will be randomly surfing the net, and then all of a sudden airport will turn off! (the shape you get when you click turn off airport - not how it looks like when there is no connection)
So when I click on "turn airport on" but nothing happens! Almost like its not clickable.
I've surfed online and tried multiple things. from just restarting (which works but then it will disconnect another time) to Deleting airport completely, restarting, and reinstalling airport. This works but then 5 days later it will mess up again. (But now its started becoming once-twice a day!)
Yesterday I updated all of the wifi software updates and updated my mac update from 10.5.5 to 10.5.8, hoping this might be the problem, but it disconnected again!
I've also tried taking the battery out etc.. but nothing works!!!
    any suggestions?!
    Zahra

My daughter is having the same problem. She tells me it started from day one but so sublte she didn't think it was a software/hardware problem ( how could be its a brand new computer right) , and we bought it for her in 2008. The interruptions were not as often, and she didn't know it as well as she does now. She thought it had to do with our internet at home, and when she went to college it stopped. Inside the school network it doesn't fail, but this year she moved outside of campus and the problem has become a nuisance, like Zahra says, it's driving her crazy now. She went to apple store and of course the problem did not happen there. So they could not help her. They told her to delete all software and re-install, and so she did, but the first thing it did after that was turn off. It kicks her out of internet continuously, and the ariport light or signal turn off. The next step it was suggested was to replace airport for 175$ for the whole repair, and if it's not fixed they will refund, but what after that.
I read somewhere that security updating can cause these problems as well as others regarding non authorized changes in system preference network settings. Not sure if it was related to a problem with a bad airport specifically, but it does with connectivity issues and interruptions.
I think my daughter also updated from OS X 10.5.5 to 10.5.8, and her book is 2 years old. If someone can help Zahra, maybe you can help us too. Thank you.
Thanks to anyone that can help.

  • IPhone 5 spontaneously turned off yesterday will not come back on

Yesterday while charging my iPhone 5 it just turned off. No impact or anything it was just sitting there. Unplugging and re plugging the charger does nothing. Pressing and holding the home and power button does nothing. Trying to connect to iTunes does nothing. When plugged to the PC I get "USB device not recognized." I also keep getting this message is I press in the home button so I'm getting some kind of communication between the PC and phone. The phone has been slow and apps have been freezing since iOS update and now this has happened. I'm not sure what else I can try. Has anyone else experienced this?

Do the reset again, but this time hold the two buttons until you see the apple logo and then release.

  • Wifi connecting while turned off and on ethernet

Much the same as a lot of people I have been experiencing wifi issues, lost connections after sleep and usage speed etc, and after messing about with settings and a clean install decided to just turn off wifi and use ethernet until apple can sort out the complete mess that is OS X 10.10.
So... with Wifi turned off and ethernet connected via thunderbolt, approx every 20mins wifi turns it's self on and connects to my network for about 30 secs and then turns off. I get notified of this via little snitch and have monitored this via Network settings. I have tested this from both my existing and a new account.
Would anyone have any idea as to why this is happening?

I saw a thread like this a few weeks ago but don't remember if they reached a solution.  I'd do a search of the iPad forum and see what comes up and read through them.
    Good luck.

  • Preventing airport from being turned off

Hello. im the techie at a school and we have been having a lot of problems with students turning off the airport and playing games to evade us from watching them. Is there any way to prevent students from changing the status of the airport ( on /off )?
We run all the users from an OD so if it could be run from the server it would be great. but otherwise it would be just as good if its run from the client.
    any ideas?

Would managed accounts be too drastic a solution? Perhaps you could switch the accounts of offending students to such a status.

  • Connection automatically turns off and wont turn on.

I have a blackberry pearl 8130, and a couple of days ago the connection started to turn off and stay off. When I go to manage connections and turn on te mobile network .. it lasts for about 30 seconds and than turns right off again.

Hi and Welcome to the Forums!
Is the battery fully charged? Typically, a BB will begin to shut things down as the battery approaches zero charge.
    Also:
Anytime random strange behavior or sluggishness creeps in, the first thing to do is a battery pop reboot. With power ON, remove the back cover and pull out the battery. Wait about a minute then replace the battery and cover. Power up and wait patiently through the long reboot -- ~5 minutes. See if things have returned to good operation. Like all computing devices, BB's suffer from memory leaks and such...with a hard reboot being the best cure.
