My experience with Credit Line Increase at Capital One

Just thought i'd share my experience (and contribute for the forum) to help those who seek to increase their credit line.  This is just my experience but it seems to work. A month ago i applied for and got two new credit cards after 16 years of NO credit card useage and not so good credit.  I made sure to pay off all debts including student loans and colections accounts prior to applying.  First credit card was a Credit One card with a $300 limit.  I have since cancelled them since the low limit did nothing for me.  I also got a Capital One Quiksilver One with a $3000 limit.  During the month of owning this card i: -Charge EVERYTHING on my credit card.  Made very frequent charges.  I charged everything from a $1 coke at the vending machine to my $2700 rent.  Credit card companies have high charges for merchants, this is one of the main ways they make money.  They will love you if you pay everything with their credit card so long you make your payments in full.-Once you run your balance up as high as your comfortable doing, make a payment even if it's not month end.  Do not go exactly to or over your credit limit!-Make frequent payments.  I made 4 or 5 payments within my first month of having my new credit card.  $2700 charge, payment posted.  $400 in random charges, payment posted.  $250 in random charges, payment posted. Within 3 weeks of me owning my Capital One Quicksilver One, they tripled my credit line from $3000 to $9000.  Whoohoo! That's all.  Enjoy your credit card in good health and with good creditworthness.

  • What's your Discover Credit Line?

Just curious. I've heard that Discover is stingy with handing out high limits.I got my Discover More this September, and they gave me $3500. A bit stingy as my other cards are all between $7k and $12k. When the nice lady on the phone verified some information she asked if that was high enough. I was afraid to ask for more and said it was ok. Maybe I should have been bold and requested more?Anyway, I only spend about $200 to $600 on it per month, so the line of credit is completely sufficient. I hope though that they will raise it in the future. I've read on here that when people redeem $50 of their cashback for statement credit, this will often trigger a credit line increase. So, what was the limit of your Discover when you got it? And, has it been increased (or even decreased) ever since?  Mod Note: This is an old thread that has been revived. • Credit Score Drop & Credit Limit Increase.

This morning I had 7 points drop from my credit score.  This past month I decided to pay off a 10 year student loan early thinking it would help my credit score.  I know it has helped my financial situation but has given my credit score a hit.  I am thinking I got the hit because I closed the account out which significantly lowered my AAOA. I have a auto loan that I am currently paying off and the loan ends in about 2 years.  Ive been going back and forth about paying off this also, but since I got the hit I just decided not to and just wait the 2 years.  In my report I have 1 missed payment waiting to fall off next month, and after that I am pretty set.  I have been also itching for another credit card. At the moment I only have one card which is my Barclaycard.  What are your thoughts on opening up another one? I know it'll drop my score but I am thinking that I need to replace my loan with something beneficial such as another credit card.  I am just not sure if that is a good thing.  This morning I checked my Barclaycard statement and realized that they increased my credit limit.  I started off with $1000 and they gave me a credit limit of $3500.  So my question is how will this affect my credit score?   I am on the road of rebuilding my credit.  I started this road in the low 500's and within a few months I was able to get my score up to the low 700's with the help of this forum and advice.  I would hate to see myself go backwards again.  Any advice would be great.

  • Rebuilding with CLI - Capital One Consolidation and PC

Started rebuilding my credit in January after opening a Cap1 Platinum Mastercard (SL $300, now $1300) and Discover It Secured Card ($500, hopefully upgrades to an unsecured card in Jan 2016). Applied and was approved for the Cap1 Quicksilver One Card (SL $500, now $1500) in April. Requested a credit line increase for both Cap1 cards in early July and was approved. Received an additional CLI today for my mastercard as part of credit steps. My QS1 receives an automatic increase in 3 more months. July was a great month! Was also approved for Bloomingdales ($800) and Nordstrom ($300). Feeling great about my rebuilding journey in only 7 months. Can't wait to consolidate both my Cap1 cards after my QS1 hits 6 months. By then, I should have over a $3000 total limit for Cap1. I've read that their Venture One must have at least a limit of $3000. After consolidation, will it possible to PC to their Venture One?

Not sure how true it is that you must have $3k for a venture one. But the PC should be possible. It's absoutely true. VentureOne has a minimum 3k limit, and Venture has a minimum 5k. Read the "How do you determine my credit line?" section on the application. it's under Rates and Disclosures.  http://www.capitalone.com/credit-cards/ventureone/I knew about the Venture having $5k minimum as it's a Visa Sig. But I didn't know about the VentureOne having $3k minimum. You learn something new every day.

Has anyone received this email before? I received this email the other day, with next month being the 1 year mark for both of my accounts. Is this them suggesting that I may be getting a CLI in the near future? What's interesting is both of my cards have had rewards for about 6 months or so now... Re: Account ending in XXXX Broke Triathlete, Now that you’ve got your card with new rewards, it’s a good time to make sure all your account info is up to date. Having your current income and employment info helps us review and service your account better, including seeing if you may be eligible for a credit line increase. Updating your account info is easy. Just sign in to your account, and click on the My Info tab. And, if you haven’t already, sign up for automatic payments. It’s the easiest way to help make sure your payments don’t miss a beat.

  • Capital One QuickSilver One Annual Fee Waiver/Upgrade

The frontline CSRs aren't able to see all offers available.   Contact the Cap One EO and see if you are able to get the fee waived or if you are eligible to PC to the regular QS.   My situation was similar to yours.   I had a Household Bank CC with a $400 CL and a $74 AF.   Cap One converted it to a Platinum and I was able to PC to QS1 and get the AF waived.   This year, I was able to PC to the regular QS and now I'll never have an AF on that CC again!   The "Backdoor Numbers" sticky thread has contact info for the Cap One EO.   Good luck!

OK, I'm 'resurrecting' this old thread to give a little closure to those who were kind enough to offer advice. The $79 AF finally posted over the weekend, and as much as I really don't enjoy dealing with CSRs I 'ripped off the bandaid' and made the phone call. I was fortunate enough to get a U.S. based CSR, who answered with her name and title of "Customer Service Supervisor".  I don't know if all CSRs are now referred to as 'supervisors' or if I just got lucky.  I asked right away if the account could be 'upgraded' to a regular QuickSilver, and she struck that down immediately without a second thought.  For what it's worth, she was very, very pleasant, and after placing me on hold for a few minutes she came back and told me there were no 'offers' to waive the fee altogether, however she could credit back half of it.  I held my nose, and accepted. After completing a few keystrokes, she told me I would be able to view the credit online in a couple of days (yada, yada).  In closing, I asked her if there was any 'hope' for this account to ever be eligible for an upgrade to do away with the AF completely, being that it is 8 years old this month.  She emphatically told me to keep calling in, that the eligibility could change at any time.  I thanked her, and we hung up. I could have played the "I want to close it" game - yet again - and been transferred to someone in retention and tried my luck there, but I guess I just don't have the 'will' anymore.  Actually, last month I did a secure chat hoping for some luck there, and when I mentioned closing the account the chat CSR promptly offered to do it for me, going so far as to say "Once the account is closed, it is final and can't be reopened.  Do I have your permission to proceed?"  I stopped him at that point (obviously he called my bluff) and told him I wanted a few more weeks to think about it, and that was the end of the chat.  There's also my positive, but fruitless experience with a very nice lady at one of the backdoor numbers, which I detail above. Now that we have the ability to 'merge' accounts, that's always an option for next year.  This account, a QuickSilver One Mastercard, started off as an Orchard Bank account with a SL of $300, and over the years I've worked it up to a CL of $2920, with the most significant CLIs being over the last two years.  (My very first CLI when the card was still Orchard was for $20, thus the odd CL now).  Also worth mentioning is the account has an APR of 14.9%, which is the lowest in my portfolio.  My four month old QuickSilver Visa Signature has a CL of $7K at 17.9% APR, so it's not that far off, and I generally PIF on all accounts anyway, unless there's a 0% promo. Hopefully next Spring when my last two 'baddies' age off I'll be offered a card with a more attractive APR; although I don't generally carry a balance it's nice to know if I ever do I won't get 'reamed'.  Until then I'm in good shape, and in the 'big picture' paying $39.50 to retain a $2920 CL isn't the worst I've ever done.  Big thanks to all who gave input on this; it's folks like you that make this forum worth coming to.  I've already learned a ton, and I plan to stick around a while longer so I can continue 'fine tuning' my finances, as well as contribute my own data points when I can.  My QS1 was from Orchard and merged that into my QS no AF last night...I less card and no AF, that is great!!It's awesome to know that the card being a former 'Orchard' doesn't cause a problem with merging! Since I just paid the fee, I'll probably see about getting another CLI or two before doing the merge.  The card I'll be merging into has a slightly higher APR, but but it doesn't have an annual fee, so in my case it'll be worth it.

  • Paypal cannot transfer money to Capital One 360

I just got off the phone with a Paypal representative who I asked to help me transfer money from my Paypal account to my linked Captial One 360 checking account. He stated, in a nutshell, that Paypal does not allow transfers to Capital One 360 accounts. Period. I would take him at his word, but a quick Google search for "paypal does not allow transfers to capital one 360" yields no confirmation whatsoever, and a search for "Capital One 360" on these forums yields nothing either. It just seems extremely strange that Paypal not playing nice with a huge bank like Capital One 360 leads to no internet commentary whatsoever! Can someone explain to me what is going on? Ben

If some of you could could confirm that you either can or cannot transfer money to your Capital One 360 account from Paypal, that would be helpful.

  • Product Upgrade & Credit Limit Increase with Capital One

Upgraded my Platinum Master Cards, I have two, to a QuickSiver Rewards an requested a credit limit increase online only received 500.00 so I sent an email to the Executive Office.  I waited two days received no responce so I called today this is what happened.  Spoke to a gentleman who said he would be my personal credit specialist today I told him that I had upgraded the cards for the rewards and the Visa signiture benefits and requested to increase the limits to 5,000.00 on each.  He told me that I had just been given a credit limit increase and he could do nothing for me.  After getting no were he offered to let me speak to his suppervisor.  Spoke to the suppervisor and ended the call with the same results, she will have someone else call me within 10 days.  My question is this the norm has this happened to others.  The number I called was one I found here in the forum.  I have had both cards for over 6 years and have always paid them on time just never used them much because of the low limits.  Any information would be greatly appreciated.

You need to wait 1-2 weeks, not days. They have to assist a large number of customers and they are not as big a team as the customer service people. My Cap One card started as a Plat with $500 limit a little more than 2 years ago and now it is at $8k and upgraded to a QuickSilver. Also as others mentioned, you can use the new "Combine cards" tool to combine your multiple small limit cards to a larger, more useful limit.

  • Completed my Credit Steps with Capital One

I have 2 Capital One cards, The first one was just a platinum mastercard with a $300 limit, the second one was a 1% cash back platinum mastercard with a $500 limit, I got one 7 months ago and the other 6 months ago.  I requested credit limit increases about 2 or 3 months ago on both of them and they raised one from $300 to $800 and the other from $500 to $1000.  Then I chatted with them and I got both of them changed to Quicksilvers with no AF.  Now with my credit steps complete I have a $1300 limit and a $2000 limit.  I was hoping that they would give me a  bigger increase since they are QS but they didn't.  I am hoping that in 6 months I can get a much bigger cli than just $500 each.  My scores were in the high 500's when I got my first card but since then there were some collections fall off and now I am in the low 700's.  My score has jumped over 100 points in just 6 or 7 months, I think that is remarkable.

Congrats!  My QS started out at $500, then with Credit Steps it bumped up to $1500 in 6 months and then $3k after a year.  Six months later they bumped me all the way up to $9k.  Stick with them and you will be rewarded!

  • Capital One Credit Steps increase plus a little EO help

I recently had my 6th statement cut on my QS1 Cap One card.  I was able to get an increase from 500 to 1500 after 3rd statement.  So the day after the 6th statement cut it increased again to 2000.  I was very happy with this but also wondered if there was any possibility of a little more available.  I have run close to 8000 through the card over the first 6 months.  I sent an email to the eo office, someone called me within about 2 hours and 3 days later I saw an additional 1000 to bring my new cl; to 3000.00.  Capital one has been amazing to me. Even when they have said no, it has been with such niceness that I can't help but smile and say oh well, Ill get it next time.

Congrats on your CLIs!!! Hopefully, next time you will earn a larger increase. Good luck!!!

Now I have given to user for testing, surely i will write if in case I have any issues.
Thanks a lot for supporting me in all the times.

  • Capital One Credit Line Consolidation LINK IS BACK UP!!!

Ok so I read last night on another site that combining limits is now available through CSR. So, I called to inquire. NOT YET. This is apparently a big thing currently at Capital One and according to person I spoke to, they are making big preparations for it. They had hoped it would be available by now. But are shooting for the next month or two. But definitely by end of year. You will see it online once it goes live and can do all your combining right there under your account. Pretty freaking awesome. So everybody hold on to all your Cap One cards for now.  UPDATE: Currently available online!! 7/8/15 UPDATE: Online link has been removed. Hopefully to fix any bugs. 7/17/15 UPDATE: Link is back up folks!
