My G4 beeps 3 times then fails to start up

when I start my powerbook up. It beeps 3 times the front lights flash then it stops. Is this a warning of some sort? In any case I cannot start the machine and am becoming worried that I've lost all my work and docs.
Can anyone please help.

Got phone, set up latest version of pcsuite ver 6.70.22 via bluetooth.

    Microsoft Windows XP
    Build 2600
    Service Pack 2
    Bluetooth stack:
    Microsoft Bluetooth stack
    Version 5.1.2600.2180
it synced well for the first time, then will not re-sync. comes up with errors/warnings "Failed to open Outlook" & "PC Sync could not update the data to the mobile phone." warning appear until reboot.
    I have reinstalled PCsuit (twice)
    Removed mmc card
dont really want to re-install outlook.
i dont understand why it works the first time and doesnt until a reboot pc (5 mins each time)
Bluetooth works fine as i can upload or download files without any problems...? Help

Teurastaja, that is not how my sync works with Nokia 6681.
    - I get most of my additions to phonebook to the phone, because that is where I add new contact (someone call me and I add that new contact to phone book etc.)
    - I "clean up" my contacts like you do, using Outlook, it is more convinient that way, like you say.
    - I get 95% most of my calendar stuff to Exchange server(Outlook)and sometimes I add meetings etc. to my phone
Then I syncronise my phone automatically over Bluetoooth everytime I am connected to my PC (this happens 3-4 times/day).
And it works, if I delete something in Outlook, it gets deleted from phone. additions to phone and Outlook get added to "the other end" as well.
I never touch my sync settings and I have "update in both directions" in use.
This is they way it should work and it works as long as you don't change the settings every so often, that confuses the sync and makes it run a "first time sync" and that causes the sync to rewrite the deleted stuff back.

  • Why is my computer beeping 3 times then stopping then 3 times again and how do i fix it??

my computer is beeping 3 times then stopping then beeping again. How do I fix it?

Hello! This is the first time I've had a major Problem with my notebook, I hope somebody can help me.
My MacBook Pro with Snowleopard operating system, processor 2.4 GHZ Intel Core I5, apple original RAM 4GB 1067MHz DDR3 is a little bit more than 2 years old.
It started this week as my computer didn´t react to any Keyboard command and the mouse cursor was standing still. So I turn it off and soon on, then it started beeping 3 times and the screen was black. I turn it off, took the ram out and inserted it again, I clean the fans it was very dusty inside.
The next time my Mac was running as usual for about 10 minutes, suddenly the screen faded into grey, I could still see the whole background. There was a message from my computer that I had to turn the computer off with the power Button. Then the same happend again.
And today I turn it on but didn´t check on it for a while, it went into Stand by mode and I couldn´t wake it up, so I had to turn it off again.
As I turn the computer on I press cmd+v and made a screenshot of information that might contain my problem. I don´t understand what is telling me, maybe someone had the same problem and could solve it.
Thank you very much in advance,
    Best
    Rebecca

  • Imac beeps 2 times then 3 times over and over again

Turn on Imac and it beeps twice.  Screen is white.  Then it beeps 3 times over and over again until I turn it off.

You can run the Apple Hardware test (on your install disk #2) - run the extended test at least twice; also you can take out one of the RAM modules and test, then test the other one.
You can purchase new RAM - best place is one of the two most recommended vendors OWC (macsales.com) or Crucial.

  • Macbook pro beeps multiple times but will not start. Unit is two years old.

two year old MacBook Pro won't start. Beeps multiple times and black screen.

On startup, are you hearing three beeps, then a pause, and repeating three beeps?
If so, that indicates a problem with loose or bad RAM sticks.

  • MacBook shuts down abruptly after some time, then has problems starting

I have 13" MacBook that I'm having some problems with. I have OS X and Windows XP in a dual boot configuration, and the problem happens in either OS. I can only use the computer for anything from 3 to 30 minutes before it suddenly shuts down.
When this first happens, I get trouble restarting it. It often just comes as far as intialising the DVD-ROM (you hear the sound), then it shuts off again. It can take up to ten starts before it powers up again. And then it's just a matter of time before the whole thing starts again. This happens regardless if I have the charger connected or not, or if I use just the charger and remove the battery.
At first it was thought that the battery was faulty, and I received a new one last spring. However, the problem quickly returned, and I haven't bother to do anything more about it before now. Suffice to say, I miss using my shiny MacBook, and I hope that someone can point me out in the right direction. As the computer is 2 years this may, I doubt I can get it repaired for free on the warranty(?).
Long post, but I hope I've explained the problem thourough enough. I believe I did the SMC reset and software update last summer, though I'm not sure which revision I'm on. If there's any more information I can provide, please let me know. It just takes some time to get the computer to stay on long enough to check stuff

Thank you so much for answering! I've actually read your answer to other similar forum, and have just installed iStatPro. it says that my fan is "exhaust" and at 0rpm. do i HAVE to replace the fan to a new one? can I just open up my mac and clean out the fan? if so, would you recommend this instead of buying a new fan? one last thing, if I buy a new fan, is it easy for me to replace it by myself? again, thank you so much for your answer.

  • MacBook beeps 3 times and does not start up with upgraded RAM....

I recently started upgrading my macbook as i use large programs like final cut, after effects, and logic. So far ive installed an SSD (using OWC data doubler) and replaced the battery.
Now i'm trying to upgrade my 4gb RAM to 8gb but my macbook doesnt seem to be compatible? Im trying to use Corsair 2 x 204-pin SODIMM DDR3 1066MHz CL7 but im not having the best luck. Its the Mid 2009 13 inch Intel Core 2 Duo 2.26ghz model currently running dual 2gb 1066MHz which SHOULD be compatable but i get nothing except 3 beeps everytime i try to power on. As soon as i put the original RAM back in it works perfectly. Ive literally tried everything from trying dual 4gb 1333MHz, reseting my PRAM and SMC. No matter what I try it gives me the repeated 3 beeps! PLEASE HELP!

The correct RAM specifications for a mid 2009 13" MBP are: 204-pin PC3-8500 (1066 MHz) DDR3 SO-DIMM.  If you deviate from this you run the risk of the RAM not operating correctly.
I would suggest that you return the RAM and get chips with the afore mentioned specifications.  Inserting higher speed RAM will not solve your problems.  If it works, and it may, the MBP will down clock it to 1066 Hz any way.
    Ciao.

  • Macbook Pro Warranty Void and Beeping 3 times/freezing

    Hey guys,
I have a Macbook Pro and it recnetly started beeping three times intermittenly when I started it up and freexzing at the same time.
Sometimes it would work and then after a while of use it would freeze and beep but in the end it became more frequent and the laptop wasn't able to be used on a consistent basis.
I found that if I kept it still it would work for longer.
I have read that three beeps generally refers to a ram issue. I'm not too great with computeres so I wouldn't know if that was the reason why my laptop was doing it or not.
Anyway, I knew that I still had the basic one year warranty on it that comes with purchase so I rang apple and they told me to take it to a store called 'Next Byte'. So I did and after about 2 weeks I got a phone call today telling me that to fix it it is going to cost me $1800. In between his actual laughter at me he told me that logic board needs replacing. Yes, you read that right, he was actually laughing at me, like he thought it was funny. He also wen't on to tell me that I may as well just buy a new one. Well excuse me, and who are you?
Apparently there is visiable cosmetic damage. I know that this voids the apple warranty but I just think it is unfair.
Is there anyway that apple can prove that I caused the damage? I am not going to say that it is 100% conditon, I'm sure there are some bumps and scratches on it, but I truly don't think I have caused this issue. Is there anyway I can talk to someoene at apple who might be able to see if this was my doing?
And you know what else confused me, he told me the price to fix both the cosmetic damage and the hardware damage. But when I ask him how much it would be just to fix the hardward damgage he gave me a quote of $1100, so if he can tell me that he can just fix the hardware damadge that must me that the present so called "dents" on the laptop won't effect the new logic board, so how can they possibly be sure reason as to what has caused the issue with my laptop now? This is really frustraiting and I can't believe that I haven't even had my laptop a year and I have to pay the price of a whole other laptop to fix it.
    Please help!

Take it to Apple and ask them. They are the only ones that can tell you.
Three beeps usually indicates bad RAM.

  • Powerbook suddently beeps 3 times and wont startup

My older powerbook G4 was working fine, then as I went to start it up it beeped 3 times, then seemed like it went to sleep, the light now flashes 4 times at intervals.
What does it mean, is it fixable?
    Thank you
    V

The three beeps at startup means no good RAM is being detected.
Remove your RAM module(s) and then firmly reinsert it/them. Does that improve matters?

  • HT5860 Spilled water on MacBook Air 11' 2011. Doesn't turn on instead it beeps three times. What's wrong with it?

I spilled water in my MacBook Air. Not on my keyboard just over it. I dried it as much as I could and at first it wouldn't turn on. Then when I plugged it to charge it it did turn on but then it shut off. The light is green on the cable and instead of turning on it beeps three times then it pauses for a bit and it beeps three times again. What does this mean and what should I do?

It means you pulled electrical power thru a WET computer system and caused compounded damage to what was already damaged.
The obvious has occurred in mixing water and electricity

    any suggestions?
    thx
    Carsten

Finally I was able to fix it:
    - uninstall time-slider
    - restert manifest-import service
    - install time-slider
    - restart manifest-import service
    - enable time-slider service
    - enable snapshot services
I have no clue why it has to be done exact in this order, but finally I succeeded.
