My iPad is disabled and my iTunes is too old to restore it
Hi,
My kids disabled my iPad trying to crack the passcode.
I followed the instructions to try and restore it but I get a message from iTunes stating that I need to update iTunes in order to do so. Then I come to find out that I can't update iTunes because the OS on my MacBook is too old, and I can't update my OS because my MacBook is too old. So now I have an unusable iPad. Is there anything I can do? I can't use the remote wipe because the iPad won't connect to the internet unless I tell it to and right now I can't get into it to connect it to the WIFI so it's showing as offline when I run "Find my iPhone" to try and remote wipe it.
Any suggestions?? Thanks so much.
Well, it sounds like you've correctly identified the problems and causes.
There are some sales out there on new computers. It's probably time to consider a new purchase.

I have a desk top upgraded to OS X 10.6.8. Now won't recognise/synch iPad, which it says needs to have iTunes version 11.1 or later. Why hasn't iPad updated or how can I do it manually?
What do you need to update on your iPad? Which model do you have and and which iOS version? If you have an iPad 2 or newer with at least iOS 5 you can update the operating system over your WiFi by going to Settings > General > Software Update.

FORCE IPAD INTO RECOVERY MODE
1. Turn off iPad
2. Turn on computer and launch iTunes (make sure you have the latest version of iTune)
3. Plug USB cable into computer's USB port
4. Hold Home button down and plug the other end of cable into docking port. Do not release button until you see picture of iTunes and plug (very important)
5. Release Home button.
ON COMPUTER
6. iTunes has detected iPad in recovery mode. You must restore this iPad before it can be used with iTunes.
7. Select "Restore iPad"...
Note: Data will be lost

Hey, my ipad is disabled and i cant open. i tried connecting it with itunes in recovery mode to restore it but it wont work it doesnt show and options itunes doesnt detect my ipad in recovery mode. what do i do know? please help!!!
If you followed these instructions and you were unable to enter recovery mode, I'm still leaning toward a hardware problem. Also, since you have IOS-7, read this. It might help.

IPad Air says iPad is disabled connect to iTunes and STILL not able to use it. VERY UNHAPPY
After uploading IOS8 on 9-17-14 my iPad Air says "iPad is disabled, connect to iTunes.". I have followed all the suggestions from Apple and tried to erase my iPad, but I am VERY UNHAPPY as none of these have resolved the problem. Apple, please provide the support when you have new downloads...
Apple are not involved in tracking/locating stolen or lost devices. Have you reported it to the police ?
Did you have Find My iPad enabled in Settings > iCloud ? If you did and you had iOS 7 installed on it then it should be harder to remove from your account, and the police could try locating it via http://www.icloud.com -
I have forget my 4 digit passcode for my ipad 3 and exhausted all the attempts, Now the screen shows "ipad is disabled connect to itunes" How can I unlock my ipad now. Also I have not put "Find my iphone" in icloud as well. Please guide me to unlock it.
Also when I am trying to connect ipad to my windows PC, it shows, your software is up to date and later starts restoring while updating again. Then automatically it stops to update halfway and I have to repeat the process again and again, still in vain.

I have upgraded my ipad2 to the latest ios. shortly after this message came up: "ipad is disabled, connect to itunes". I have never synced my ipad2 to itunes and don't have any backup. Is there any way to bypass this without restoring the device? I have many articles on "iAnnotate" that can not afford to loose.
You can't bypass it, you will need to connect iPad to a computer's iTunes, and you may need to put it into recovery mode : http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1808 - you should then be able to reset the iPad, which will remove all content from it.
You haven't been backing up to the cloud either, and/or keeping copies of important documents/files elsewhere e.g. on your email account, Dropbox etc ? -
My iPad is disabled and I can not input my passcode. what do i need to do? I tried to connect to iTunes, but it will not allow me to connect via compute USB as I cannot input my passcode for the iPad.
You may need to put the iPad into recovery mode : http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1808 - you should then be able to reset the iPad and restore/re-sync your content to it

I have activated the passcode lock on my iPad sometimes ago and now I foregot it, I entered several passcode but non was correct, now the iPad nis disabled and would not connect to the iTunes. what can be done to unlock my iPad?
If you've forgotten the passcode then you will need to connect the iPad to the computer that you normally sync to and you should then be able to reset the iPad and re-sync your content to it (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1212) - you may need to put the iPad into recovery mode : http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1808

My ipad is disabled and says I need to connect to itunes. When I connect to itunes it says I need to enter a passcode on my ipad however there is no place to enter as passcode. The screen is locked.
You need to restore using Recovery Mode. You can read about it here.

My Ipad is disabled and tells me to connect to Itunes. When I do that, I get the message to enter passcode on my IPad but I can't because it's disabled:(
In one of the options, it tells me to sync as if I have never synced to itunes but I'm afraid it will reset to factory settings and I will lose what I had on Ipad.Locked Out, Forgot Lock or Restrictions Passcode, or Need to Restore Your Device: Several Alternative Solutions

‘iPad is disabled’ fix without resetting using iTunes
Today I met my match with an iPad that had a passcode entered too many times, resulting in it displaying the message ‘iPad is disabled – Connect to iTunes’. This was a student iPad and since they use Notability for most of their work there was a chance that her files were not all backed up to the cloud. I really wanted to just re-activate the iPad instead of totally resetting it back to our default image.
I reached out to my PLN on Twitter and had some help from a few people through retweets and a couple of clarification tweets. I love that so many are willing to help out so quickly. Through this I also learned that I look like Lt. Riker from Star Trek (thanks @FillineMachine).
Through some trial and error (and a little sheer luck), I was able to reactivate the iPad without loosing any data. Note, this will only work on the computer it last synced with. Here’s how:
1. Configurator is useless in reactivating a locked iPad. You will only be able to completely reformat the iPad using Configurator. If that’s ok with you, go for it – otherwise don’t waste your time trying to figure it out.
2. Open iTunes with the iPad disconnected.
3. Connect the iPad to the computer and wait for it to show up in the devices section in iTunes.
4. Click on the iPad name when it appears and you will be given the option to restore a backup or setup as a new iPad (since it is locked).
5. Click ‘Setup as new iPad’ and then click restore.
6. The iPad will start backing up before it does the full restore and sync. CANCEL THE BACKUP IMMEDIATELY. You do this by clicking the small x in the status window in iTunes.
7. When the backup cancels, it immediately starts syncing – cancel this as well using the same small x in the iTunes status window.
8. The first stage in the restore process unlocks the iPad, you are basically just cancelling out the restore process as soon as it reactivates the iPad.
If done correctly, you will experience no data loss and the result will be a reactivated iPad. I have now tried this with about 5 iPads that were locked identically by students and each time it worked like a charm.

Try it and good luck. You have nothing more to lose if it doesn't work for you.
Cheers, Tom
