My iphone 3 won't let me download free apps from itunes

Every time I try it makes me verify my payment info, and then it tells me my session has timed out. Does anyone know what I am doing wrong?

That's how it works. You put it in and it's saved but not displayed when you go back. I think it's another security layer. Do you have this problem from iTunes on your computer? If so, I would contact iTunes support... https://expresslane.apple.com/GetproductgroupList.do?PRKEYS=PF4
Also, make sure your billing address is exactly correct, i.e. the same as on your CC statement.

Aside from what Rudegar has suggested - swipe from screen to screen and see if the icon is on another screen or in a folder somewhere.
Do a search on your iPad and then tap on the icon when it shows up to launch the app store and then go back to the home screen and see if it is there.
You can always reset the home screen as well to return the app store icon to your home screen. Settings>General>Reset>Reset Home Screen Layout.
Bear in mind that if you choose this option - it will return your home screen layout to what it looked like when you first activated your iPad. Any folders that you created on the home screen will be gone, but the App Store icon will return.

Do you have enough funds in your bank account?
otherwise iTunes sometimes black lists card if there are too many fradulent purchases
Reason why they might black list a card is possibly you call in for alot of fradulent purchases
One more reason can be because iTunes does actually limit the amount you can change payment methods
Call AppleCare Phone support and have your call directed to iTunes Store

Go to this Apple ID site.
https://appleid.apple.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/MyAppleId.woa/
Click on Manage My Apple ID and sign in to your Apple ID.
Find that area that has your payment information.
Triple check to make sure everything is entered exactly correct.
Note that your billing address and name must match exactly the name on your credit card and the address to which your bill is sent.
If all these items are entered correctly and you still get that message contact your credit card company to make sure they are not blocking your use of the card on the iTunes Store.

My iPhone 5 won't let me download certain apps. They show up on itunes but not on my phone, if I download the app from my computer it loads on my phone then immediately disappears. The 'FREE' button is white in the app store for certain apps. PLEASE HELP!

I'm so frustrated and in desperate need of help, I don't know what else to do! Certain apps such as Tumblr (I've previously had the Tumblr app on my phone) and Vine will NOT dowload on my phone. I've tried deleting all apps from both my iPhone and iTunes, I've tried restoring my phone then backing it up, I've tried downloading the app from iTunes while my phone is plugged into my computer, etc. When I search the apps in the app store they show up but the 'FREE' button is white and unclickable, it's very frustrating. Oh my gosh I had the EXACT same problem, and for ages I couldn't figure out how to fix it until today. Here's what I did:
First I went onto my computer, opened itunes, and un-installed tumblr, vine and kik. These were the apps I was having problems with (it said I had them on my phone but, like you, they didn't show).
Then I went to the itunes store, searched for each one, and it said I could update them so I did (just FYI: for tumblr a window popped up saying "please click ok to confirm you are 17 years or older", so I did that also)
When I went back to my phone and tried installing them again (still on my computer), it worked!

My iPhone won't let me download or update any apps, just keeps going to my account pages, asks me to put in my card details then says there's a problem or it's declined even when I try to download or update free apps, I have had the day Apple ID and card details since I brought phone????? Have spoken to Apple they don't help!!

What sort of card is it, debit or credit ? If it's a debit card then I don't think that they are still accepted as a valid payment method - they are not listed on this page and there have been a number of posts about them being declined.
If it's a credit card then is it registered to exactly the same name and address (including format and spacing etc) that you have on your iTunes account, it was issued by a bank in your country and you are currently in that country ? If it is then you could check with the card issuer to see if it's them that are declining it, and if not then try contacting iTunes support again : http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/ - click on Contact iTunes Store Support on the right-hand side of the page, then Account Management

I figured out what was going on the app had miss represented how much space it would take it had said it was 1.2g's however it was really 1.9g's which was all I had left on the phone I downloaded it to my computer first from the apps store then was able to see this. At that point I was able to rearrange some memory to accomadate it's size thanx for the help.

I suggest updating your billing information to "None" using the steps in the section titled "Change your payment information on an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch" in the following article:
