My iPhone 4S has started to turn off before its out of battery. There is no pattern it is completely random so I don't know when it will turn off, when I try to turn it back on it says it needs to be charged.

As soon as I plug it in to the charger it reboots to the same percent it was originally on before it turned off for example today it turned off on 10% I tried to turn it back in and it said out of battery so I plugged it in to the charger and it immediately rebooted showing the apple logo and the phone was on 10% when it was fully rebooted.
I was wondering do I need a battery replacement or is this something more serious.
