My mac loses connection

Hi,
my mac started itself to lose ethernet connection when i go away for 10 mins or more.
When i come back it gets connection if i move the mouse only.
I can't find where to set options or how to fix this issue.
Can you help me please ?
thx

I think your mac is just sleeping, not disconnecting. The sleep settings are in the System Preferences, under Energy Saver. Is best to use the drop down menu to set up as default for best battery performance if you are not using the power adapter all the time. There are also default settings for power adapter too , but you can of course set it up to do anything you wish.

  • Client Macs lose connection to server after Sleep

Ok, so my previous issues with disk I/O erroros with contacts/Mail etc appears to be resolved after I re-installed ML Server and ML clients on all my macs -- not entirely sure why but now I have new problem where client macs lose connection to the server after sleep
So my current setup is as follows:
    Server Mac
Mac Mini Server running ML 10.8.2 Server
    Client Macs
    2 x MBAs with 10.8.2 (Core2Duo & iCore5)
    1 x Mac Mini running 10.8.2 (Core2Due, 4GB 2.4 Ghz etc)
    Issue:
If I leave the client Mini logged in say, as me and either the mini goes to sleep (or if I put it to sleep) and then I wake the mini up, I appear to lose connection to the server - so whilst I am still logged in as me, I've lost my connection to my home directory e.g. Doc/Music/Pics (I can see instantly my desktop picture defaults to ML galaxy picture, opposed to something I've chosen) folders are no longer present. So obviously as mailbox, iphoto & itunes libraries are missing, Mail, iPhoto & iTunes fail to operate and I my only course of action is to log out and log back in and everything is fine.
I get the same issue - although not as frequent - on MBA's when you close it and results in having to log out and in again to resolve the issue. I also saw the same problem when it was running Lion as well.
A couple of things to note:
      - Server Mini is never asleep and is running 24x7 (as its a media streamer as well)
      - Its only occured when in deep sleep -  so if I wake the mac up after a few seconds of sleep, its just fine but if say I leave it overnight and wake it in the morning, its no longer connected.
Any pointers will be welcome and given that it appear to have occured on a client Mac with Lion as well, it would imply its an issue with the server rather the individual client Macs. Also note, I don;t recall the problem when running Lion Server.
    Thanks
    Rob

Have you tried looking at the server logs, particularly the 'System' & 'Open Directory' log sets?
    Anything seen in there?
Also logs on the client machines using the Console app. It's a bit tedious going though logs but they can be very illuminating.

  • Outlook Mac Loses Connection to Exchange Server

    Hi All,
I've had this problem pretty since deployment a couple of weeks ago, so I'm hoping some one can point me in the right direction.  I'm running Exchange 2013 on a Server 2012 Standard box with the DC running on a different box, every thing up to date.
Mac clients running Outlook 2011 (14.4.2).
Periodically throughout the day, Outlook loses connection to Exchange server.  After several minutes, it will connect back up, and seems to operate normally.  During the down time, I am able to connect to OWA, and ActiveSync seems to work as well.
If I run the Remote Connectivity Analyzer while Outlook is responding, I get no errors and the "Connectivity Test Successful" message.  However, if I run it while Outlook is NOT responding, I get the following:
Exchange Web Services synchronization, notification, availability, and Automatic Replies.
Not all tests of Exchange Web Services tasks completed.
Creating a temporary folder to perform synchronization tests.
Failed to create temporary folder for performing tests.

Nothing I've attempted to do so far as had any meaningful impact, and I am fairly new to Exchange.
Following the adice I've seen online so far, I've:
I've made sure the auto discover in DNS points to the Exchange server.
I've disable auto-discover on the client, manually adding accounts, tried using their FQDN, local IP, LAN IP.
I've made exceptions to the proxie on the client.
Just not sure where to look next?  Appreciate any advice out there.
    Thanks,

    Hi,
Before we go further, I'd like to confirm if your Outlook clients can work well when your Outlook MAC clients come across the issue.
If the issue only happens on your Outlook MAC clients, we can check the IIS log and confirm if there is any error releted to EWS. And you can recreate your EWS virtual directory to have a test.
    Thanks,

  • Bridge for Mac loses connection with Xperia E4g

I am using a brand new Xperia E4g dual with Mac and PCs. At the beginning, the application was performing correctly, now, BfM starts, recognizes the phone and after a while ist says "Connection problems" and I cannot access the unit anymore (looks lik e a  timeout issue). Tried two different Mac plattforms with different OS version, same result, tried PC Companion platform, works fine, any help? Might there be a cache file which should be deleted?
    BfM Version 4.0 (4003)

    Hi Kazawaza!
Hi I have been in contact with the development crew now.
    Sorry for a late reply.
They don't know what the problem is.
So can you please send me your log-file so I can forward the log-file to the development crew.
Here’s how to get error logs from Sony Bridge for Mac:
    1. In BfM, hold the "alt" key down while selecting the "Phone" menu. Select "Clear logs" to remove all old logs and get a clean start
    2. Reproduce the problem you're having, whether it's connecting the phone, importing photos, doing backup...
    3. In BfM, hold the "alt" key down while selecting the ”Xperia” menu. Select "Export logs"
    4. On the computers desktop there should now be a file named "SonyBridgeForMacLogs_[date].zip
    5. PM a dropbox link with the file to me
    Best regard

  • Mac Loses connection every time I close the lid.

Whenever I close the lid of my Macbook pro, when I open it again and try to browse to a page in safari the browser says that there is no connection even though airport shows that it is still connected. In order to fix this I need to turn off airport for about 10 seconds then turn it back on to regain connectivity. This is quickly becoming a chore can anyone help with this?

Put the hard disk to sleep when possible in energy saving settings
Note: Portable computers that have a battery you should not remove on your own include MacBook Pro (Early 2009) and later, all models of MacBook Air, and MacBook (Late 2009).
    1.     Shut down the computer.
    2.     Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
    3.     On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
    4.     Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
    5.     Press the power button to turn on the computer.
Note: The LED on the MagSafe power adapter may change states or temporarily turn off when you reset the SMC.
    Resetting PRAM and NVRAM
    1.     Shut down the computer.
    2.     Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command, Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    3.     Turn on the computer.
    4.     Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears.
    5.     Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    6.     Release the keys

  • TS4597 My airport extreme has had the latest update and now my mac can no longer find the base station.  Everything else works fine on the internet but my mac loses connectivity constantly.  This only happened after an update. Help...

Help!!  The update on my airport is 6.3 I think.  Shoot me!!  I'm in graduate school and it's taking me all day to answer one discussion!!

Airport 6.3 utility requires ipv6 local link to work.
    see http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4597
But older express may not show up even then. you need to install 5.6 utility so you can access them as well.
It is tricky but if you google around there are a number of methods listed. Here is what I do.
How to load 5.6 into ML.
    1. Download 5.6 for Lion.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1482
Click to open the dmg but do not attempt to install the pkg.. it won't work anyway.
Leave the package open on the desktop so you can see the file. AirportUtility56.pkg
    2. Download and install unpkg.
    http://www.timdoug.com/unpkg/
Run unpkg on the desktop.. If your Mac refuses to run the software, because it wasn’t downloaded from the Apple store, go to security in preferences and allow other software to work.. this is limitation of trade methinks. You can set back later if you like.
Now drag the AirPortUtility56.pkg file over to unpkg.. and it will create a new directory of the same name on the desktop.. in finder, open the new directory, drill down.. applications, utilities .. there lo and behold is Airport utility 5.6 .. drag it to your main utilities directory or just run it from current location.
You cannot uninstall version 6 (now 6.3 if you updated) so don't try.. and you cannot or should not run them both at the same time.. although I have had no problems when doing so.

  • My Mac OS X 10.6.8 is wakes up slow, occasionally hangs, and my mouse loses connectivity fairly often.

Recently my Mac has been waking up very slow. It runs all applications slowly when I first start using it. It seems to be better after that. My mouse also loses connectivity several times a day, even with new batteries. Not sure if that is related. When I try to restart it Safari often won't close even when I force it.

I ran Etrecheck and this was the result.

  • Yahoo mail account drops out randomly. I have 2 yahoo mail accounts on my Mac. The primary account works fine but the second account loses connection.

II have 2 yahoo mail accounts on my Mac. The primary account works fine but the second account loses connection. When I put in the password I get a message that it is not the correct password. The only way round it appears to be to go into Yahoo on Safari, log out then log bck in again. If I then go back into Mail and right click on the account I cn then get mail for this account without having to enter a password. The problem only started when I installed Lion, but is still the same in Mountain Lion.

  • Mac loses WIFI Connection...

I just start experiencing this problem since I moved to a house with some DSL router but never experienced it when I was using my own NetGear router with a cable connection. My Mac loses its connection every once in a while and I have to turn off WIFI and select the router again. Since I am the only one having the problem people will say its my Mac, but I am not sure. Perhaps because I am living in a city with about 15 other WIFI networks around my be the problem as before I was living in a more isolated area with only a few WIFI networks.

Wifi problems seem to crop up a lot on here and unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a 'one fix' solution.
However, sometimes any one of the following can help although, unfortunately, not always - in no particular order:
Check wifi security - if it's WEP change it to WPA or WPA2 (preferably, as it's more secure)
Change the wifi channel on the router
Create a new Network Location: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5289
    Reboot the router
Also take a look at this link and the links within the article for other ideas. They mainly reference Lion, but still seem to be relevant to Mountain Lion:

  • My mac mini loses connection with my receiver after turning off the receiver then back on

My Mac Mini loses connection with my Onkyo receiver NR-609 after turning off the receiver then back on.  The only way to reistablish the connection is to unplug then replug the HDMI cable to the Mac Mini.  There's no effect if I unplug then replug the HDMI to the receiver.  Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.  I've searched a lot but haven't found much of anything so if this is covered elsewhere I would greatly appreciate a link.
    Thanks in advance

Hi and thanks.  I don't know about the audio prefs.  When it happens I am not able to see or hear anything from the computer until I un/re-plug the HDMI to the Mini.  I'm not sure it's changing to something else because there's nothing else connected for it to change to.  I could see that perhaps the audio will change to the Mac Mini's internal speaker.
I found out last night that if, after I lose the signal,  I use my ipad to play a video on the Mac Mini using the Remote app and home sharing the signal gets righted and I can see/hear the computer again.  It's quite an inconvenient fix though and I wish and hope someone here can help me.

  • Daughter's new Mac laptop loses connection after about 15minutes on her apartment cable provider network.  Her roommates older Mac works ok as did my daughters olde MacBook what could Be causing the shutoff?

Daughters new macBook loses connectivity on wifi at her apartment after about 15 minutes but works fine on other wifi networks. Her roommates older MacBook works fine on wifi as did my daughters older MacBook.  what could Be the cause?---mmannaxx

Assuming this does not happen at a specific time of day but randomly when ever she connects, she may need to power cycle the modem/router, with the MBP off, after it reestablishes connection and IP addresses, then power up the MBP and reconnect.

  • Mac G5 drops/loses connection to Airport Extreme wireless base station

When I power up my Mac, it connects normally to the AE wireless base station. After some time (sometimes minutes, sometimes hours) the connection will be lost, although all indications are that it is operating normally, i.e. the AE icon at the top of the screen shows that there is a connection, there are no error messages. The G5 is just not connected to the Internet: the browser won't connect to a Web site, I can't upload or download files to my Web space.
I originally had the problem with a D-Link wireless router so I replaced that with an AE base station. I have replaced that AE base station with a new one (it's the one that looks like a flying saucer) thinking that I might have gotten a faulty one from the factory, I've replaced the original wireless card in the G5 with a ndw Airport Extreme card, I've moved the AE base station into the same room as the G5 (right now it hangs on the wall directly above the G5). I also connect a PC laptop and a MacBook Pro to the Internet via the AE base station and have no problem with either one of them. The G5 and MacBook are running Mac OS X 10.4.10, the PC is running Windows XP.
Also, when I connect the router directly (hardwire) to the G5 it works fine.
The router is a new Siemens Speedstream 4100 (this is also a replacement for the original router).
Since all the equipment in my system has been replaced with the exception of the G5, I assume that the problem lies within the G5.
Perhaps there are settings that can be changed on the G5 to make it more stable in the system, although I have enabled Interference Robustness to no improvement? I am at a loss to come up with a solution. I can't find any literature that addresses this problem specifically. Each time the connection is lost, I have to restart the G5 to get back online which means, of course, saving my data, shutting down all running programs and then restarting. Turning the AE card off and back on does not work.
I would greatly appreciate any suggestions.
    Thank you,
    Don

I could find no solution in the troubleshooting and set up pages. The only thing I couldn't check out was "Hardware access control" since I don't know how to access this control and no instructions that I could find were given as to how to do this.
I ended up hardwiring the G5 directly to the Airport using the Ethernet ports. This is less than ideal since I am required to locate the Airport near the G5, defeating the purpose of having the Airport, at least for the G5. I am still able to connect my PC and MacBook Pro wirelessly, though and, ironically in the case of the PC, have never had any trouble with these. I am still baffled but don't have the time to "play" anymore and at least I have a functioning, if not ideal, system.
I don't see the point in purchasing a new AE, since I have had this same problem throughout with various configurations and pieces of hardware and the problem persists in exactly the same way no matter what I swap out. I recently purchased and installed the latest issue of AE card in the G5. I think the problem is in the G5, either in the configuration or in the hardware.
    Thanks for your suggestions.
    Don

  • Airport loses connection sometimes

Hi guys....need help! I bought my macbook pro 13 inch some time in September 2009. Brand new. Up until 2-3 months ago, things were running smoothly in regards to my wireless connection. Lately (for the past 2-3 months) when I close the lid of the macbook (put to sleep) or shutdown and then reboot or bring back from sleep, my airport does not connect to my wireless connection. It shows my wireless network in the list, the password is also still stored but when I hit connect, it says connection failed. The only way it will reconnect is if I unplug the wireless router and plug it back in again. IT instantly connects after that. Also, the problem is sporadic, meaning that sometimes i can put the mac to sleep/reboot and it will not lose connection. This is driving me crazy. I need help. It cannot be the router because other Windows laptops in my house are running fine! Also my iphone does not lose the wifi connection, its just the macbook pro. Any suggestions please??

This is a known complaint in other threads. I don't think I have found a conclusive solution but a work around. There have been posts that the router upgrade fixes or a different router.
Keep pinging something to keep the connection:
Temporary workaround that works for some:
As soon as you connect to your wireless network, Open Terminal and start a ping going. Use your router IP address; but any local address will do:
    If your router has an IP address of 10.10.10.1, then open Terminal (in your Applications ---> Utilities folder) and type;
    ping 10.10.10.1 <return>
You'll see a string that looks like:
    64 bytes from 10.10.10.1: icmp_seq=728 ttl=64 time=1.527 ms
    64 bytes from 10.10.10.1: icmp_seq=729 ttl=64 time=1.513 ms
    64 bytes from 10.10.10.1: icmp_seq=730 ttl=64 time=1.203 ms
    64 bytes from 10.10.10.1: icmp_seq=731 ttl=64 time=1.684 ms
    64 bytes from 10.10.10.1: icmp_seq=732 ttl=64 time=1.063 ms
Your routers adress can be found under:
    system preferences > network > airport > advanced... > TCP/IP
This keeps the connection active. It even survives sleep/wake.
I think people using this work around have it running all the time. But in your case you could start when you leave your computer. I think it you stop when you close that terminal window (I suppose there is a stop ping command I should look up).

  • Photosmart C410b loses connection to Solution Center

    Dear Forum.
My Photosmart C410b loses connection to the Solution Center (“HP Photosmart Prem C410 series Disconnected!”). If remove and reinstall the HP software (latest version from the Web) it works for a while but the problem reoccurs. In the past, it has been working for longer periods. Browsed this forum for a solution but was not successful (many seem to have some form of ‘Solution Center Disconnect’ issue (!!))
I would very much appreciate advice from this forum to structurally solve this (very) nagging issue!
    More details:
    -       Product name: “HP Photosmart C410b”
    -       Product number: “CQ521B”
    -       Firmware version: “VAx2FN1121AR”
    -       Windows 7 Ultimate, 64bit
    -       PC connected wired to router
    -       Printer connected wireless, signal quality 5 (1=low, 5=high)
    -       Printer gets IP address from DHCP server (address reserved for the printer via its MAC address)
    -       Printing from Windows works OK, Airprint works OK
    -       Printer can be reached directly via its IP address in a browser
    -       Using Microsoft Security Essentials and Windows Defender
    -       Restarting PC and/or printer does not help
    -       Power cycling printer does not help
    -       Deactivating the “Windows Firewall” does not bring the connection back
    -       Removing and reinstalling the HP software helps (for a while)
    -       HP Print and Scan Doctor (HPPSDr version 4.1) detect this printer
    -       HPPSDr completes ‘Fix Printing’ without problems
    -       HPPSDr fails’Fix Scanning’ on the second test ‘Driver Check’ after passing the ‘Device Manager’ test. “Fails” in this case means it just hangs and the only way to close HPPSDr is to use the Task Manager to kill it.
    -       I also have a G4050 scanner installed (USB) and this one passes HPPSDr ‘Fix Scanning’ without a problem
    Thanks in advance,

    Dear Teri,
Thanks for the suggestions. I followed your advice, please note my findings:
    - I followed 'method 1' as suggested. However, I found multiple instances of the ...\temp\7zXXX\... folder containing the uninstall_L3.bat file, I randomly picked one, all these batch files seemed identical
    - to run the batch file, one needs to set the default folder to point to the folder containing ccc_uininstaller.exe (which also contains uninstall_L3.bat. To that extend, I opened a CMD window and navigated to that folder and started uninstall_L3.bat from there
    - uninstall_L3.bat ran without any error message, but also wanted to delete stuff related to my otherwise properly working G4050 scanjet. I accepted all. There were multiple requests for the G4050.
    - I thereafter ran the freshly download installer for Windows 7 64 bit. This installar also ran without any error messages.
    - The results is a connecetd C410b (but it would do this anyhow after each reinstall, the proof of the pudding is after some time: will it remain connected?)
    -However...
The Solution Center now offers only the options to transfer images and to send a fax, there is no option for scanning. Also for the G4050, if I select this device in the Solution Center, there is no option at all. See screenshot:
I deliberately did not do or try anything else at this point in time, prefer to wait for your advice.
(I would guess that at a minimum I also need to run the installer for the Scanjet G4050)
    W.
Update: after a restart of the PC, things got worse: the C410b vanished from the solution center. As stated no additional attempts done to recover.
    W.

  • Mouse loses connection

I have a Mac Mini and a few months ago I started having problems with the Magic Mouse losing its connection to the computer.  If I wait a few minutes it comes back but in one hour it may drop the mouse 3-4 times. I have used new batteries and even went to the extend of buying a new mouse thinking that it was my old mouse.  But that wasn't the problem because this is even happening with the brand new mouse.  What I notice first is that the mouse's responsiveness starts to change--it isn't as responsive. Then the next thing I see is "Connection Lost."  I have gone into Utilities and have checked that the disk is OK and all my permissions are right.  I was thinking of simply reinstalling the OS but would like to see if others have suggestions.  Also, I don't know if this is related or not but I have a wireless printer that seems to work fine for a while and then it too will drop the connection and the printing will stop only to restart a while later.  Suggestions?

I might have actually figured out the problem.  Even re-installing the OS did not help. I still got printer errors and my mouse still moved real slow at times and would lose connectivity.  So I hard-wired the printer to the network and turned off the WiFi on the printer. I still got "communication errors".  Then I turned off WiFi on my Mini (it is hard wired to the network), uninstalled the printer, rebooted and reinstalled the printer (although I kept WiFi off for now).  The mouse has worked perfectly well for over an hour and I have printed numerous documents with no problems.  I will let this run for another day and if all is well I will turn WiFi back on on the printer. But for now it looks like running the WiFi on the Mini was causing the problem.
Thanks for the suggestions, Illaass. They helped getting me to think about conflicts.  I do want to look at my router and see if I can set it to only run on the 5 GHz bandwidth and see if that helps. But I don't need WiFi on the Mini so if keeping it off solves my problem then I am happy.
