  • Transferred a video from phone to macbook pro but sound is not working.

I transferred a video from my phone to my macbook pro. the transfer was successful but the sound is not working on the computer, totally mute. the video is playing on quicktime player. the computer sound is on. the video was working fine on the phone and when i transferred the video, if this makes any difference or anything, the phone's media volume was on full.
I very much appreciate the help and feed back, thank you!

I have this same issue and have been struggling with it for a while.  I really just need to get it into Apple Store to be fixed most likely - but avoiding the hassle and time needed to do so.
    Things I've come across:
Something inside of the headphone jack is not right, such that it randomly thinks headphones or some other type of optical audio device are plugged in.  you will see a red light inside the jack occasionally when it happens.
You might try doing PRAM and/or SMC reset ( http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964 )

  • My MacBook Pro's sound is not working! HELP!

This problem heppened when I was using my headphones.
When I try to change the volume on my computer, it gives me a sign that it is locked.
I have tried restarting, plugging and unplugging headphones, and fiddling in the port with a tooth pick.
    Thank you

    Do the internal speakers  work?
Go step by step by step and test.
    1. System Preference > Sound > Output > Internal Speakers
        Highlight  Internal Speakers / Headphones
Make sure that Mute is not enabled.
    2. Hold the option key down, click the sound icon in the menu bar and select internal speakers or headphone.
    3. Any red light visible in the headphone port
Even if there is no red light visible, plug in the headphone in and out 6. or 7 times.
    4. Launch iTunes and play a song. Try to move the volume slider in the mini player.
    5. Close all windows and quit all applications.
Launch Finder. Select Macintosh HD in the Finder sidebar.
Macintosh HD > Library > Preferences
         Open "Audio" folder.
Right click these two files and select "Move to Trash".
         com.apple.audio.DevicesSettings.plist
         com.apple.audio.SystemSettings.plist
Close the window. Restart the computer.
    6.  Reinstall OS X  10.9 Mavericks
         http://support.apple.com/kb/PH13871
If this does not help, you may have to take the computer to the Apple store to have it checked out.
    Best.

  • My macbook pro's sound is not working properly. It flashes from normal to grey in the menu bar up top, and when greyed out I cannot do anything with it, and it sits at max.

In system preferences > sound > output, it will switch from normal internal speakers > built-in, to headphones > built-in, to digital out > built-in, to headphones > headphone port, to digital out > headphone port- it's nuts! This is all without having anything actually plugged into the headphone jack. While it is greyed out (which happens randomly and on any of the settings), there is no sound whatsoever and it says, "The selected device has no output controls.". Also coinciding with this, my computer has begun to suddenly run extremely slow and lags a lot. Is there a way to fix this? I already tried updating my computer, and restarting it, and it didn't help. I'm wondering if maybe the headphone jack somehow was shorted while I had some speakers plugged in for gaming...? Or is this something I need to send my computer in to be repaired for?
It was custom-ordered a few years ago, and unfortunately the warranty has expired. :/ Perfect timing.

Hello. I sent my WRT1900AC V1 to Linksys four days ago (Monday) via UPS with a RMA. Linksys paid the shipping and everything. The router is still in route, and it should arrive to their offices tomorrow. Once they receive the WRT1900 AC V1, they are going to send me an EA8500 as a replacement. But I have been reading the comments about the EA8500 here in the forum and it seems to have the same problems. I guess the firmware is extremely flawed in both routers (maybe it is almost the same code?). Anyway, I will try the EA8500 and I hope it works. I bought a temporary router from Walmart and I paid $35 for it. It is a Belink N600 DB. I can't believe that a $35 router is working a lot, lot, lot better than my previous $250 WRT1900AC router. Unbelievable. If the EA8500 doesn't work, I'm going to try and get my money back from Linksys, or contact The Consumerist or someone to get my money back and get a Nighthawk instead.

  • Macbook pro buzzing, sound doesn't work, disk is falsely full...

My 15 inch macbook pro has started buzzing a lot lately at random times.  I've had it since 2009, but it's a 2008 model, and I don't know if it's just getting old and telling me that it's going to die soon, or if there's something I can do about it.
It also has other problems, like the sound doesn't work when I start it up (the volume icon is greyed out), and doesn't work again until I've restarted it twice.
Also, when I have programs open, it'll tell me that my disk is full and I only have a few mb of disk space left even if I had many GB available before I opened the programs.  I tried fixing this on my own by not having multiple programs open at once, but the disk space won't come back until I restart the computer.  It only started doing this a few months ago, and I don't know why.
I used to keep it on all the time and just let it sleep, but I've been shutting it down every day now, and I have the same problems.  I don't know what's happening, if it's my fault, or if my computer is just dying, but I need it for animation school and professional photography so if possible I want a heads up if it's about to crash on me.
    Thank you.

    This worked for me
Reboot the Mac and as soon as you hear the boot chime, hold down the Command+Option+P+R keys together
When you hear the boot sound again, the PRAM has been reset so let the Mac boot again as usual
At this point your Mac should boot again as usual and no longer have the black display, loading OS X as usual.

  • What's wrong with the built-in keyboard on my macbook? The caps button does not work rite, no matter what letter button i push they all come out capitals and the number keys when pushed display the special characters instead of the numbers!

the built-in keyboard on my macbook is not functioning right, the number keys when pushed display the special characters instead of the numbers,
the caps button doesn't work at all, the letter buttons display capitals when pushed whether the caps button is on or off, the shift keys are also out of whack!!
It seems it somehow got relocated to the "0" button because if you push and hold the zero button down the keyboard seems to operate normally, the number keys display numbers when pushed the letter keys display lower case when pushed but release the zero button and your back in the twilight zone!! Can anybody help me resolve this issue? one more thing im using an external usb keyboard right now and it seems to function properly if that helps any.

You would do better in the actual macbook pro forums (this is not).

  • Continuity Bluetooth Calling & SMS on Macbook Pro (via iPhone 5) Not Working

    Devices:
Macbook Pro Mid-2010 running OSX 10.10.2
    Iphone 5 running iOS 8.1.3
*NOTE: I understand that due to the version of the Bluetooth protocol in my machine, not all continuity features are available (Handoff, Air Drop, MBP Instant Hotspot)
However SMS to IMessage and the ability to make and receive calls from my Mac should be OK according to Apple's system requirements one-sheeter:
System requirements for Continuity on iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, and Mac - Apple Support
    ================================================================================ =====================
    Here's my problem.
I finally took the plunge last night and updated my iPhone 5 from 7.1 to 8.1.3 to access the iCloud Drive and additional continuity features integrated into Yosemite.
When I tried to pair my iPhone 5 with my MBP over Bluetooth, all seemed to go well for the first 5 seconds.
    - Both devices were in discovery mode.
    - Mac saw the phone and displayed a security code
    - iPhone displayed the same security code and asked if I would like to pair with MBP
    - Pairing took place. Each devices Bluetooth profile / device showed up in my MBP Bluetooth's Preferences  and in my iPhone's Bluetooth.
    - 5 seconds later, there's no connection between devices.
    My iPhone displays:
"Connection Unsuccessful: Make sure [Macbook Pro] is turned on and in range." (The phone is 5 inches away)
Then sometimes I get this message:
"Connection Unsuccessful: [Macbook Pro] is not supported.
No rhyme or reason between the two either.
Here's the baffling part: When I activate my Phone's HotSpot function, the Bluetooth works and connects with my MBP allowing it to use my cell phone network's data for internet connectivity.
I don't understand what is going on or how to correct this? Can anyone succinctly explain how to correct this problems in layman terms?
If the devices can communicate long enough to exchange security codes and verify their identities, then use Hotspot,  there is clearly a data exchange happening. Where is the break down taking place when it comes time to stay connected to so I can continue to use the limited continuity features.
I've seen this question posted before by people having problems with different model years of MBP including the most recents models, so I know it's not mutually exclusive to my model year, but cannot seem to find clarity on an answer.

A number of problems exist including the notorious MacKeeper. Start by removing it according to the instructions below.
Follow these instructions to uninstall MacKeeper. They have been tested with the most recent version of MacKeeper. Earlier versions than the one released in 2012 require more extensive work to uninstall all its components.
If you actually used MacKeeper to alter your system, e.g. "remove excess binaries" or such, you will need to reinstall OS X as well as all your additional software. Uninstalling MacKeeper is insufficient to reverse the corruption it is capable of - once again, that is if you used it.
If you merely installed MacKeeper but did not use it to perform any particular action, the following instructions will suffice.
If you used MacKeeper to encrypt any files or folders, use MacKeeper to un-encrypt them first.
Quit the MacKeeper app if it is running.
Open your Applications folder: Using the Finder's Go menu, select Applications.
Drag the MacKeeper icon from your Applications folder (not the Dock) to the Trash.
You will be asked to authenticate (twice).
You do not need to provide a reason for uninstalling it.
Just click the Uninstall MacKeeper button. You will be asked to authenticate again.
After it uninstalls you may empty the Trash and restart your Mac. All that will remain is an inert log file that does nothing but occupy space on your hard disk.
An apparently modified Hosts file is another concern, which is apparently blocking Adobe software requests to contact its server for whatever reason it needs to do that. If you know the reason for altering Hosts then you can troubleshoot it on the basis of that knowledge. If you do not know the reason, it often occurs as a result of installing pirated or "cracked" software to circumvent its ability to contact an external host to verify their software was legitimately obtained. If that's the case then anything is possible as a result of having installed illegally obtained software.
Awesome Screenshot is adware. Most people don't install such things unless they are deceived into doing so.
Don’t install browser extensions unless you understand their purpose. For Safari, go to the Safari menu > Preferences > Extensions. If you see any extensions that you do not recognize or understand, simply click the Uninstall button and they will be gone. For browsers other than Safari, perform the equivalent actions.
For an explanation or how this may have occurred and how to avoid it in the future read How to install adware.
Uninstall the following according to their respective instructions.
    MicroMat "TechTool Pro"
    Western Digital "drive utility" software
    Intego "Washing Machine"
You need to be much more circumspect regarding the software you choose to install on your Mac. May I suggest that you review the following setting in System Preferences?
Although you may easily override that setting, it will serve to protect you from inadvertently installing garbage.

  • Macbook pro 15' power adapter not working

When I was using macbook pro 15' early 2008 this morning, the power adapter suddenly did not work. The led light on the power adapter blanked and the status bar showed that I was using the battery. I am sure about the power adapter is fine cause I try it on another macbook pro and it works well. I have tried to take off the battery and the power adapter for 30 secs and then press the power button. But it does nothing good. I have tried to press the option + command + "R" + "P" and power button to reset PRAM. But the problem is still there. Now I have run out my battery what should I do ?

It sounds like the power board inside the MacBook Pro has failed, best get it to an authorised repair centre.

  • Macbook Pro 2010 some wifi not working?

    Hi,
I just bought a Macbook Pro Unibody, and I love it.
Unfortunately, my Macbook Pro works perfectly on my home router, but doesn't even connect sometimes to the router at my girlfriend's house. I've tried everything I can find online, but nothing seems to work. When it does connect, I often get 1.8 Mbps, while her computer is getting 9.8 Mbps. My connection often times out. Sometimes when I click the Airport icon it says that I'm connected to the network, but it shows it as unsecured, which is not accurate.
Anyone else having this problem? The router is direct from Bell, one of the ISPs here in Canada. The router at my house is Cisco and works fine.
    Thanks,
    Bret

Yeah, it seems like my MacBook is fine, my old MacBook was fine as well, and I seem to remember a similar problem. Maybe the firmware update is the only thing I can do. I was just hoping my MacBook Pro was so awesome it could transcend the issues presented by the router. I'll try the firmware update...changing the wireless channel completely fixed the issue -- for about ten minutes.

  • MacBook Pro Backlit Keyboard does not work

    Hello all!
I recently bought a used MacBook Pro (late 2008, 2.4 GHz Core2Duo) and the backlight on the keyboard does not work. I have reset the SMC and the PRAM, I have the latest firmware (EMI and SMC) and still no luck. I am hoping this isn't a hardware issue, but what can I do to fix this?

I think there is a sensor on the top left. It looks like  a little speaker thing. If you swipe your finger over it, it activates/deactivates it. I read this somewhere online. Works for me most of the time if it's not lighting up and showing the 'no/stop' symbol.

  • AirDrop between iPhone 6 plus (iOS 8.1) and MacBook Pro retina early 2013 not working

    Hi there,
Can somebody please help me. I ent to transfer so videos that I have saved via airdrop To my MacBook pro from my iPhone 6plus.
When I try to send via airdrop, neither my phone shows the MacBook as available not does my MacBook show that my phone is available to send/receive files via airdrop. I have wifi and Bluetooth activated. Please can somebody help? I can't email the files because they are too large for that.
    Thank you.

Don't see who you're looking for?
When you select AirDrop, OS X looks for other Mac computers and devices that are nearby that also use AirDrop. If you don't see someone in the AirDrop window, here are some things to check.
    Preventing senders
You can prevent people you don't know from sending you files, or you can allow everyone. If you don't see a recipient in the AirDrop window, they might only accept files from people who in their Contacts list. Ask them to add you in their Contacts app, or have them select the option "Allow me to be discovered by: Everyone" in the AirDrop window.
Sending files to and from an older Mac
If a Mac you're using with AirDrop was manufactured before 2012, you can send and receive files with other Mac computers.
On the sending Mac, click "Don't see who you're looking for" in the AirDrop window.
Select the option to "Search for an Older Mac."
On the receiving Mac, open a new Finder window and click AirDrop in the sidebar.
    Tips for sending files
Make sure Wi-Fi and Bluetooth are enabled on your Mac and your iOS device. Although you don't have to connect to a specific network, Wi-Fi needs to be on to send and receive files using AirDrop.
Move your devices closer together. AirDrop is designed to work within a range of approximately 30 feet (9 meters). If you need to send a file to someone farther away, consider using File Sharing, iCloud, or email instead.
If you're using a firewall on your Mac, you won't be able to receive AirDrop files if you have enabled "Block all incoming connections" in the Security & Privacy pane of System Preferences.
Make sure your devices meet system requirements for AirDrop.
    System Requirements
To see if your Mac works with AirDrop, make sure you’re in the Finder by clicking the desktop (the background area of your screen), or by clicking the Finder icon in the Dock. Then, check to see if AirDrop is listed as an option in the Go menu. If you don't see AirDrop listed, your Mac doesn't support this feature.
In order to transfer files between a Mac and and an iPhone, iPad or iPod touch, your iOS device needs iOS 7 or later installed and your Mac needs to be a 2012 or later model. To transfer files between two Mac computers, you need one of the Mac models listed below and OS X Lion or later.
MacBook Pro (Late 2008 or newer)*
MacBook Air (Late 2010 or newer)
    MacBook (Late 2008 or newer)*
    iMac (Early 2009 or newer)
Mac Mini (Mid 2010 or newer)
Mac Pro (Early 2009 with AirPort Extreme card, or Mid 2010)
*The MacBook Pro (17-Inch Late 2008) and the white MacBook (Late 2008) do not support AirDrop.

  • My Macbook Pro power adapter is not working

I have had my MacBook Pro for less than 1 year and I only use it to get to Uni and back. I leave the adapter at home and unplug it when I'm not using it, but lately it has decided that it doesn't want to work and hence I cannot charge my laptop. Is there anything I can do other than spen $90 on a new charger?

If your computer is still under warranty, so is the power adapter. Make an appointment at an Apple store or call AppleCare.
