My mail at desktop is not responding

my mail at desktop is not responding

I called AppleCare and they helped to solve the problem.
(1) Backup your mail.
Desktop --  Finder -- Go (press Option under Go submenu) - Library
In Library, you will find Mail folder, you can copy/backup it.
(2) Remove Mail config files
Desktop --  Finder -- Go (press Option under Go submenu) - Library
In Library, you will find Preferences folder, remove the following two files
     com.apple.mail.plist
     com.apple.mail.plist.lockfile
(3) Restart Mail
Normally you do not need to setup your mail accounts.  If not, please setup them again.
Hope this is helpful.

  • Mail hang and is not responding in activity monitor after mavericks update

I click on the mail icon in my dock it just hangs and wont open. The activity monitor says it is just not responding. Any suggestions?

You have a program running that is incompatible. What third-party sound or audio applications are you running? It will be one of those. If you quit them the problem should disappear. You will have to force quit coreaudio and UserEventAgent via Activity Monitor or restart the computer but do not run the third-party application(s).

  • Upgraded to MAC OS 10.8.3 and now can't change desktop photo (not responding).

I installed the update, rebooted and now can't change my desktop in System Preferrences (spinning wheel of death/ not responding when I try to search for pictures). Anybody else have this issue?
    Thanks!

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
Try deleting the Desktop settings file. First, open Finder, select Go menu (on the menu bar) > Go to Folder, and type ~/Library/Preferences. Then, delete "com.apple.desktop.plist" and "com.apple.systempreferences.plist", and restart, so you should be able to change the desktop

  • Anyone experiencing Mail.app in fullscreen not responding after screensaver?

    Hello all!
I did a quick search in the forum but found nothing related.  I am noticing that my Mail.app that is in fullscreen is not responding to mouse clicks (ie I can't click on Inbox) after screen saver has started.  I don't know if time plays a role however I am noticing the issue after 15 mins, my break.  Anyone experiencing the same?
    ~Gregory

I have proven that the problem is being caused by the Software Update HT204210.
I went and purchased new iMac (LOADED) biggest, best iMac I could buy.  New iMac has the most recent versions of softwares and OS, EXCEPT the latest update, Software Update HT204210.
System ran perfectly.  Email was working as designed.  No hangs ups, no errors.
Then the automatic Software Update ran last night (03/02/15) and installed Software Update HT204210.  Now today 03/03/15 the system hangs and Mail stops responding.

  • Palm Desktop software not responding when clicking on "Media"

I have a Palm Centro (Sprint) and am trying to get a photo that I took on my phone transferred to my computer.  I recently updated my software to Palm Desktop by Access v6.2.2.  When I try to get into the "Media" section, the software locks up and I get a "not responding" message.  Everything else (contacts and calendar, which is all I care about) seems to be working fine.
How can I get my photos off my phone?  Thanks for any help.
    Post relates to: Centro (Sprint)

Hello khodes and welcome to the Palm forum.
I don't have a Centro so I can't test whether or not Palm Desktop will hang when I click the Media icon in Palm Desktop. It seems to be working here, but I'm using Palm Desktop 6.2.2 on Windows Vista with a Treo 755p.
One work around is to use a card reader/writer to copy the data from your card to your computer.  Do you know if you are saving the photos you are taking with your Centro to a microSD card?  If so, all the photos should be in a folder called DCIM on your card.

  • In email when switching from 1 mail to another ff "not responding" how to fix.

when checking email then switch to another ff locks up and on top it says ff "NOT RESPONDING" Then it turns almost white. Sometimes it will flash brightly and then start working, sometimes needs to restart. This all started when ff updated itself to version26. No problem in ver 25. Writing this I am using "Ice Dragon 26, which is built from ff, but have no trouble like I do with ff and ff has been my favorite. What to do?

Yahoo! mail? Many, many users have discovered all kinds of problems and glitches with Yahoo! mail in Firefox when using an old bookmark saved before Yahoo!'s recent server changes.
I suggest clearing your Yahoo cookies and entering through the main page to get a better address for your current mail server.
To remove your Yahoo cookies -- save any pending work first -- call up the Cookies dialog while viewing any page on yahoo.com (or your Yahoo site). You can use either:
    * right-click the page > View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
    * Tools menu > Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
In the dialog that opens, you can remove the site's cookies individually.
Then go to one of these Yahoo addresses and click on login or mail from there:
    * Yahoo home page: https://www.yahoo.com/
    * My Yahoo page: https://my.yahoo.com/
    * General mail redirect: https://mail.yahoo.com/
    * AT&T users: http://att.yahoo.com/
    * Other country sites (not on .com): the main Yahoo page for your country

  • Mail Problems - SMTP server not responding: "offline"

I am currently testing DSL service for a month; set up Mail just before I downloaded the 10.7.3 release. Tested it once and it worked; did not use it to send emails since because I am only testing this (including the email address). I have been receiving emails (which I forwarded to myself from my cable provider's website); today, I wanted to send an email and a 6 hour troubleshooting saga began....
Total of 2 hours with Centurylink tech support; 1 1/2 hours with Applecare, and another 30 minutes with Centurylink.
During that time, all different settings were tried, turned on/off. POP server ok, SMTP server not responding. With Applecare, tried it on both the iMac and the Macbook; also tried it after booting into Snow Leopard - SMTP server not responding ("offline"). Applecare tech stated that it has to be the server since we tried it on two machines as well as SL. Centurylink insists there is nothing wrong with their server, but it's Mail's fault.
So, I finally gave up for the evening, but wonder if there is something amiss with Mail in 10.7.3 (both machines are on the same version) and during the troubleshooting, I noticed an anomaly: in a new message window, there was no choice to choose an account to send from which I thought was odd.
I was thinking of a new install or to clone back? My clones are up to date though, I have no older clones. I do have a fresh install but it's also the latest one from MAS. Or I could just boot from the fresh install and set up Mail to see if it would work?
    Grateful for any ideas....

Thanks to everyone; as you can imagine, all settings/configurations were tried yesterday (even booting into SL); Apple said it's Centurylink's fault, and they insisted there was nothing wrong with their server.
FWIW, I unplugged my Comcast cable (it is still active though and I'm getting TV reception, just unplugged the modem for now); right now, my internet access and email account are with Centurylink for the test. I still access my Comcast mail via their web interface email account.
Anyway, thanks to a good friend's idea, I decided to check keychain access and to make it short: the issue is fixed and the problem definitely had something to do with the OS because:
When I first checked keychain, this is what I saw:
I then checked Comcast settings and there were two: one was checked "allow all apps..." and the other had the "confirm" with Mail listed under the applications.
So I figured it's so screwed up, I probably can't make it any worse, so I deleted the Internet Accounts and added Mail to the smtp.centurylink...:
And......... it then worked! These default "internetaccounts" obviously aren't being recognized by Centurylink's server?
And, to make sure that was it, I not only did the same thing on the Macbook, but also booted into a pristine "backup" fresh install (no added apps or files, just default OS), launched Mail and couldn't send. Launched Keychain, changed the apps to Mail, and I was able to send email.
I would call that a bug? Or not? In any case, I'll be calling back Applecare and tell them to add the above to the very long log from yesterday and to make a note that "internetaccounts" doesn't work with everything.

  • Mail app locks up (Not Responding)

I have an iMac (Late 2012) running Yosemite (10.10.2).  Has been working flawlessly until recent issues with Mail app freezing with the Spinning Pin-Wheel of Death.  I have to Force Quit, shows Mail (Not Responding).
Mail app has not had any issues until after the Software Update HT204210, installed on February 13. No other hardware/software changes.

  • Mail incessantly loading AND not responding

hello, thank you for reading my post!
i have a problem: i got my mac membership a few months ago, set up mail, & everything was working beautifully. then about some time last week, when i clicked on "mail," the mail application opened, but my inbox was empty. the beachball started spinning around, letting me know that it was loading. i wasn't fazed at first...but it kept doing that for about 15 minutes. i can't click on anything or manipulate any buttons (file, edit, help..nada). i always have to "force quit" mail from the apple (it shows up in the little "force quit" window as "not responding"). oh, and i can never force quit while in mail, i always have to open another program like safari or something such to be able to do it. i'd really appreciate your feedback..please help
    MacBook   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

thank you for answering to my post actually, you know what, mail was just being ..foolish. i was taking pictures in photo booth, and by accident i clicked on "email." Mail loaded, and voilà! what do you know, there goes all my mail from my multiple accounts. only, some of the mail that i had previously deleted (from my multiple inboxes) was still there. i still can't believe that the solution was so simple..and accidental. i'm sorry if i made you go through a lot of work. i waited about a week to make sure that the problem wouldn't fix itself.
thank you so much!! if mail acts up again and my "solution" (lol if you can call it that..) doesn't work, i'll try what you said. thanks again!

  • Opening mail causes it to not respond

When I open the mail application it pops up but doesn't display any of my messages that I had stored there and it freezes up and I have to force quit out of it. Do I reinstall it? If so, how? and will I lose my old messages?

    Don’t reinstall anything.
Verify/repair the startup disk (not just permissions), as described here:
The Repair functions of Disk Utility: what's it all about?
Go to Apple Menu > System Preferences > Network, choose Network Port Configurations from the Show popup menu, and make sure that the configuration used to connect to Internet appears at the top of the list. Leave checked (enabled) only the port configuration needed to connect to Internet and Built-in Ethernet (in that order if not the same), uncheck (disable) the rest of network port configurations, and see whether that helps — if it doesn’t, turn ON again the ones you want enabled.
Try launching Mail under the following conditions (you may need to force quit it first if it’s running) and post back with your observations:
    A. Holding the Shift (⇧) key down until the main window appears. This tells Mail to not select any mailboxes or load any messages upon start up.
    B. With no Internet connection.
You may also try trashing the Mail cache:
    1. (Force) Quit Mail if it’s running.
    2. In the Finder, go to ~/Library/Caches/.
    3. Locate the Mail cache folder (not to be confused with the ~/Library/Mail folder where all your mail is stored) and move it to the Desktop (to be deleted after opening Mail and checking that all your mail is there, i.e. after making sure that you didn’t remove the ~/Library/Mail folder by mistake).
Note: For those not familiarized with the ~/ notation, it refers to the user’s home folder. That is, ~/Library is the Library folder within the user’s home folder, i.e. /Users/username/Library.

  • I get a dialog box to allow a cookie from Yahoo mail but it does not respond and locks up the entire browser. All other sites work fine.

The sign in page for yahoo mail wants to set cookies. I get a dialog box that asks to set a second cookie but it is unresponsive, eitehr to check allow or close it. Going to task manage says the site is waiting for input from me but I cannot get the browser to respond in any manner whatsoever.
All other tabs work fine and the yahoo site can be opened with IE fine.

Set up to "Ask me every time" in the Privacy elections. I think I found the problem. Looks like there were two dialog boxes, the second right on top of the first so I could not check the first one so it never got the OK and kept waiting for input.
    Seems OK now.

  • Mail virus trojan worm not responding

ok last post ended up responses going futher and further away from the issues. turned into a boy cat fight.

mail wasnt responding. took some doing get to finder..
reopened all came back. took some doing but got that piece of mail in drafts out of outbox before ...
it would appear mac.mail10.4 has some" issues."
any concrete help not debate of theory out there?

    d,
Spyware's highly unlikely on the Mac. Your phone, on the other hand, is a different story.
Bluetooth can be problematic, as well, if you allow any device to connect. There's even a term for it: Bluejacking, although it's used mainly for harmless pranks. It's easy enough to turn off, though.
Rebuilding the mailbox doesn't normally lose data. Deleting the mailbox would, though. Did you upgrade from OS X Panther to OS X Tiger? If so, mailbox data corruption is a fairly common issue and rebuilding tends to work well.
You can find out what processes are running and taking up your memory by running Activity Monitor. Slow response tends to go with either a process that's hogging memory or a simple lack of sufficient RAM.
Your Mail files are in Users/<your user name>/Library/Mail/<mailbox accounts>. You can back up by copying those files. If they're corrupt, you'll probably be wasting a blank disk.
Check my email for one other concern.

  • Update link on officejet j4540 shows on desktop will not respond. Using windows 7

Had an older computer using Windows XP with the Officejet j4540 with no problems.  Computer died.  Bought new computer running Windows 7 Home.  Installed printer & downloaded new software.  Got the blue tag on desktop to update but tag would not work.  Ordered and install the software disk from HP.  Uninstalled downloaded software & installed printer from the disk.  Still same results.  Have not been able to get updates.
    Byron

Byron, would first uninstall the printer entirely from the computer. First disconnect the USB cord (if one is used). Then make sure that any related files or programs are entirely removed or deleted from Programs and Features, Devices and Printers, and the Device Manager. Then restart the computer.
Do not plug the USB cord in until the software asks for it.
Then go to http://goo.gl/wUs2E and locate your appropriate drivers and software for your particular printer model. They are all available for free downloads. You will want to use the "Full Feature" version of the software package.
Let me know how this goes!
