Nokia's solution to update maps is exclusively using OVI Suite.
Ovi Suite is a tremendous piece of software: never checked before any release, always buggy.
You are lucky if you do not need maps because PC Suite is reliable.
You are cursed if you need maps...
Any upgrade of maps ends up in problems!
Today if failed again, I am used to it....
I will stop any use of this Nokia's E72 (it is their product, not mine) as soon as my contract with my provider will end!
My today's provider will also be punished by seeing me away definitively at the same time. And I will get away as many people as possible from Nokia!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I hate this product and this company: They are not concerned by their customers, they are just good at taking the money and run away.
That's Ok for me, you will be out of this market within 3 years with such an irrespect of your customers. -10% of market share / year is 0% in 3 years from now on. And, yes, it is too late: You did it again with the N8 (read above)!
Have a nice day!

  • Problem install ovi store and ovi maps?

my phone nokia C7 can not turn on, then I use a three finger salute to hard reset, and my phone can turn on again, but social networking application, ovi store and ovi maps are lost, I tried installing again, but always "unable to install", while applications else could, what happened? what should I do? I want to install it again.

Unfortunately that is one of the outstanding issues with the current firmware in the N8, E7 and C7. The hard reset does not reinstall Qt which is required for the apps you mentions. See this.
    /t5/Nseries-and-S60-Smartphones/N8-Maps-problem-after-hard-reset/td-p/783327
Although it is possible to reinstall Qt, the process is highly complicated and should only be atempted by expert users. My suggestion would be to either get your phone reflashed at your local Nokia Care Point or to wait for the next firmware up[date which will hopefully include a fix for this.

  • OVI map problem with E52

    Hi,
Iv been using E52 for the past 11 months and loved the way OVI maps worked but about 2 months back i had some serious problem related to keypad and since the customer care couldn't fix it they replaced it with a new E52. I am not able to use OVI Maps properly on this new E52 meaning my current location is being shown and also in the search option I am able to search for places but when I am selecting the location and opting for drive to or walk to option then the waiting for GPS option keeps me waiting forever. With my previous E52 this problem never exsisted and the route map was created immidiately. I dont mind using the map service over the GPRS instead of GPS. I have updated the firmware and also installed the latest nokia OVI map software, updated the maps but still facing the problem.
    Please Advise.

    Welcome to the forum!
I am assuming that you will have the same functions as on my E72 a similar S60 3rd FP2 device.
Suggest that you go to Menu > Ctrl. panel > Settings > General > scroll down list to "Positioning"  > Positioning methods - temporarily disable ALL except Integrated GPS, go outside away from tall buildings if feasible, open OVI Maps application and wait 20 -30 minutes necessary for it to establish very first positional lock.

  • Firefox 3.6.3 and Ovi Maps Plug-In compatibility

Hello everybody. I have a new problem since yesterday and I sure could use some help. My problem is that suddenly (since yesterday) when I open the Ovi Maps site (http://maps.ovi.com/) I don't see the map surface anymore, I just see a white surface!!! Everything else is in place. I can zoom in and out of this white surface I can even change to 3D and the blue sky on top appears but no map. Needless to say the same goes for satelite or any other option. No map appears. If I reload the page the map appears for a second and disappears immediately. When I deactivate the ovi maps plug-in (4.0.12.12), the map reappears and stays. I even tried to unistall it and reinstall it but the same thing happens, NO map visible. When I reinstalled it, it said that the plug-in is not compatible with firefox 3.6.3. The strange thing is that I didn't updated my firefox since yesterday,  it just started to happen suddenly. I couldn't find anything like that elsewhere on the web so this place is my last hope. Has anyone had a similar experience or even better a possible solution? By the way I have windows 7 but I can't imagine a reason for this being relevant since it work just fine until yesterday. I thank everyone for his hint/idea/solution in advance.
    Carlosl

Use Internet Explorer. I used to use ovi maps on firefox as well until FF suddenly updated itself. It works ok on IE.

    how can i fix it ? ? ? ? ?

I'd just offer this for the future. Be careful with commas. In my experience they're not necessary. However, in database / spreadsheet design, commas are used to "tab" from field to field. Once you start assuming that the software thinks, using the same logic as your mind does, then you will need to be very consistent in supplying the correct number of commas.
If you supply the wrong number of commas, the poor old database might end up looking for a city name in a field reserved for streets, or house numbers, and end up with no match.
Also, I've had mixed success in the past by assuming that a particular Application will undestand abbreviations. I stopped long ago using Rd for Road, Ave for Avenue, and ,say, NSW for New South Wales. It might well work, but don't be surprised if it doesn't.
Same uneven results without commas. Same uneven results using no abbreviations. Conclusion - Ovi Maps 3.03 search is just plain inconsistent.
And on the subject of abbreviations and commas, this is a GPS sat nav application. The core of it's functionality is searching for places and then navigating to them. If it doesn't understand common ways of writing addresses (eg. Rd = Road), or common geographic abbreviations within a country (NSW = New South Wales, CA = California) then it is not fit for the purpose for which it was supposedly designed. Other GPS applications (Garmin XT for one, Google Maps another) don't have any trouble finding the locations I want, but Nokia Maps does.

Hi, assuming you have the latest map app and your settings are ok everything should work ! Just in case, try this:
first connect phone to computer and use Nokia Software Updater or Ovi suite to check you have the latest software update.
Second go Menu-settings-application mngr.-installed apps.-scroll down to Ovi Maps/Nokia maps and select options-uninstall, do this for all maps software.
Third , go menu-Applications and scroll down to Location app and open positioning-positioning methodsand tick everything except Bluetooth GPS
Now go here and download the correct version for your phone and install this (the bottom download not the first one)
    http://betalabs.nokia.com/apps/ovi-maps-beta-for-mobile/download_and_installation
Finally using Nokia Map Loader, remove all old maps on phone and download the maps for your region and install them to your phone, all should be fine
If it isn't you may need to do a soft reset which will take your phone back to 'out of the box' but you will have to set it all up again, and will need to backup your contacts'calendar and notes, NOTHING else, as settings may be causing your problem !! Then set up your phone again . If you don't have loads of apps and music etc on the phone I suggest soft reset first, then install maps as described.
Soft reset by dialling *#7370# followed by 12345 and phone will reset and be like new.
    Good Luck

  • URGENT - N96 - Ovi Maps problem

    So,
Last week my phone (N96) gone crazy and had to do a format.  I have owned this phone for 2yrs+ and never gave me any trouble, except for last week.
Then, after the format I restored my latest back-up.  (the only drawback, was that I was not able to select the mass storage and the storage for my messages!)  Now, when I try to open the maps, it states 'Cannot open application. Install latest version'.  I have been trying to install the latest Ovi Maps, but nothing seems to work!!
How can I solve this problem??
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Depends on yourself. I usually reformat the mass storage after hard resetting and I never backup anything other than contacts and messages. So I redeuce the risk of restoring corrupt data and bad settings.
Doing it this requires me to reinstall all applications I previously installed to the mass storage as well all map data. I believe the Maps application itself is installed in the phone memory anyway but it may have reverted to an earlier version so you need to update it to the latest. After updating Maps you need to run it once before downloading new map data for it. It is a lot of work but this is the way I prefer to do it myself.

  • N97 min Ovi maps problem

Can not connect to the Internet in ovi maps, constant error message.
Common Internet works fine without any problems,

    N6303 classic
I have a N6303 classic. Using PC Suite and Map Loader I managed to upload the UK maps to my 6303 just after last Christmas. For some crazy reason 2 days ago I downloaded and installed Nokia Ovi Suite and allowed it to update my phone – quite unnecessarily, but it looked like a good idea at the time! The backup failed. It lost various settings, but I was able to reset them. Also it allowed me to download via my PC a selection of maps and load them on to my phone. I then found that the memory card was too full and I wanted to remove some of them...I found I was unable to do this in Ovi Maps, and got the same error message that I lacked an internet connection. (I have broadband, which works fine.) However, PC Suite allowed me to delete all the maps, freeing up some space.  Now, neither Ovi Suite nor PC Suite will allow me to connect to the internet via my PC to download, you’ve guessed it, the maps of the UK. The only route seems to be to connect to the internet via my mobile, which I have no need to do and will simply waste money. The maps would be nice to have but aren’t essential and I have absolutely no use for the 6303 as a SatNav, but it is frustrating not to be able to take advantage of what seemed a useful little add-on, having an A-Z of the whole of the UK available for emergency use.

  • Ovi maps problems with Nokia 5800 xpress music

Since Ovi updated the maps I've had trouble using it. I have version 40 firmware which was installed by Vodafone when my device expired. Despite the update, Ovi maps just crashes the phone when I try to use it. The screen goes blank and I get all coloured lines flashing down one side and the phone reluctantly restarts. Any advice please?

I am having exactly the same problem with my 5800 xpress music having updated to version 40.0.005.235.10 and installed the new version of OVI maps and the software Own Voice.
I have also tried reinstalling the sotware, restoring my phone to factory settings and resetting my phone by pressing the green, red and camera button whilst powering up. The problem persists. I will be making a call and within a few seconds of the call being connected the phone switches off and back on again. I also get the the coloured lines flasing on the screen.
Please Nokia Support, help us out.

  • Free ovi Maps problem

Once again Nokia has exceded themselves in the field of ridiculousness:
I cannot download ovi maps OTA via software update on my phone and I have looked on the nokia website but cannot find a download for my laptop so I can install via USB.
I have an n97 with the newest software... please help.
(On another note, does anyone know why my n97 doesn't respond to any button/screen presses from time to time after unlocking screen? Any fixes?)

Hi, only way to get maps update is to go to nokia maps on phone browser and download N97 mini version ( it works perfectly) but it will take up about 9 meg of space on C. New version will be with V2.1 update when it arrives.
    Good Luck

  • Weird 5800 Ovi Maps problem

Ok, so I recently had an ovi maps application upgrade. I havent really used the maps since I got ovi maps and have been using google maps. Which was sometimes off by as much as 30meters. So I decided to use ovi maps for some time to see if it was more accurate, and what happened was something that made me go like "GPS my a s s!" It constantly locks on my location as my university, even if I was like 43km away. Anyway to refresh my location or something?
If you find my post helpful please click the green star on the left under the avatar. Thanks.

Ovi Maps seems to store most setup information in the qf file, so try deleting bothy the Cities folder and qf file. Then run Ovi Maps once, redownload the map data you need and then  try again.

  • E52 and Ovi maps 3.04 long gps waiting time

    Hello
After upgrading to newest 3.04 I noticed that internal gps needs much more time to find satellites.
I have checked "internal gps" method only. After downgrading to 3.03 it works much faster

I think that you will find that your 5230 has OVI Maps v3.03_10wk10_b02 pre-installed in device firmware, so that if you remove v3.04_2010wk32_b03 you will revert to previous version.
It has been commented that upon 5230 v3.03 seemed to lock on to position faster and has satellite reception icon which is missing from v3.04 onwards. One of the main benefits of v3.04 was the additional positioning method WiFi/Network introduced which can have quite marked results especially upon devices WLAN equipped which unfortunately your 5230 is not.
OVI Maps v3.06 which utilises a newer set of maps is probably quite near to general release and for some users in certain regions this maybe quite beneficial.

  • N97 Ovi Maps problem

    HI,
i tryed to update my maps definition by checking on Ovi Suite on my PC via USB.
Some updated maps were available, but during the update, i've lost the connection with USB.
From now, there is no "cities" folder on E: and Ovi Suite can't upload new maps.
So i have Ovi maps working but without any Maps !
It says my memory card is full, but there is 28Go available !
Any idea to recover it ?
    thanks for your help

During the update process, the old maps are deleted first before the new maps are downloaded. I have never interrupted the process but it is possible the usb connection was interrupted just as all the files were deleted. This could explain why the Cities folder and qf files are missing.
Now to get Ovi Suite to see the mass storage for map data purposes, you first need to run Maps at least once. This should recreate the Cities folder and qf file. Once this is done, Ovi Suite should be able to see it and allow you to download map data.

  • WRT54G - IP and Port mapping problems

I'll set the scenario first so you can understand what i'm trying to do. I have a D-Link 524 configured trough PPoE to get access to internet. It has DHCP enabled (from 192.168.0.100 to .199). I had static ip configured in the D-Link router as 192.168.0.90 and some ports forwarded to my pc that's like 50 meters away from the router, in other office. The thing is, I added a WRT54G v6 router cause the wireless signal from the d-link didn't reach where I am, and some people needed to use it. So, I plugged my pc to the WRT54G, and the linksys to the D-Link. No, my problem is, I no longer have the static ip that the d-link assigned me (the linksys uses the 192.168.1.X range, and the d-link the 192.168.0.X range). Now, if I release my MAC address from the D-link and assing a static ip in the WRT54G, I could fordward the ports I had before in the d-link but in the linksys. The thing is, I can't find a way to assing a static ip in the linksys. And I tried to change the range of ip from the linksys to 192.168.0.X so I can still use the assigned address from the d-link but it didn't work, I couldn't access the linksys neither the d-link after changing the address, didn't get internet either, so i had to reset the linksys. After all of this... what the hell do I do Azureus can't connect, or any other P2P app for that matter (cause I had the ports forwarded in the other router, and I can't forward them in the linksys cause I get a dynamic local ip, if I forward them to, say 192.168.1.100 and some day I get assigned 192.168.1.101... well, I assume it won't work as expected)

The WRT54G does not assign fixed IP addresses through DHCP. You have to set a static IP address on the computer itself instead of using DHCP.
I would, however, recommend not to use the WRT as router but only as simple access point. Instructions are here. Set a LAN IP address like 192.168.0.2 on the WRT to keep it accessible inside your normal LAN. I think this setup will solve all your problems. You can still use the fixed IP address assignment from the DHCP server on the D-Link and you only have to configure a single port forwarding on the D-Link (instead of two which would be necessary if you connect the Linksys router through its internet port to the D-Link).
With two access points you can create a roaming network by using the identical wireless settings on both routers (SSID, wireless security, wireless mode). Channels should be different and at least 5 apart. SSID broadcast should be enabled on both. Now most wireless clients are able to move between both access points without loosing the connection.

  • Firefox 8 and Google Maps problem!

Ever since upgrading to Firefox 8 (I don't recall this problem using firefox 7.01) using maps.google.com if I search for something like watertown, wi or greendale, wi it will work the first time or so. Then afterawhile it will just say "loading" and stop working. This is on Windows XP Pro 32bit.
I have completely re-installed firefox from scratch (deleted all settings) and started over. But, it does the same thing!
    Help!

I have this same problem with Firefox 9.0.1, but not with explorer; "problem" = destination and location markers in Google Maps don't appear and hence can't be clicked and dragged, really limiting usefulness. Problem began a few weeks ago, maybe when Firefox updated. Haven't added any new add-ons. Tried opening Firefox in safe mode, tried the add-on posted here, tried the various Tools>Internet Options suggested here, none worked.
