How to print Name badges?

You will need a program to make them like Open Office that has an Application that allows you to make Buisiness Cards which would be the correct size, the downside is you would have to make each one at a time. Of course you would need a printer. There are I am sure many Applications that are specificly for making name tags. Microsoft Office has this same program like Open Office which is free Microsoft is not free. You can also get the paper with a sticky back and print the names on that paper.

  • Creating Name Badges with ID

    I can't figure out how to make name badges. I can get a whole page of each name, but I want one name per badge (Avery 8395). I realize there is a check box for multiple records per page. I downloaded an ID a template for my labels but that doesn't help with the multiple names per page problem I'm having. Do I actually have to get out a ruler and figure out how far to move each new name badge? Perhaps I should just stick with Word (although I can't get a logo to print that way.)

    Forget the template unless you are able to remove all but the upper left badge from it.
    When you do multiple records per page you set up one instance of the badge in the upper left and leave the rest of the page blank. ID duplicates everything on the page as many times as will fit according to the spacing options you set. It's very imprtant, therefor, to get your measurements precise and to not have any stray bits outside the badge area.

    There's a sample script that comes with ID, that places multi-page PDFs. It would be fairly easy to adjust the example to place the pages twice. So the ApplScript version would be (run the script and choose the PDF with pages to place):

  • Making name badge labels in pages

    I need to be able to share labels with Windows users. How can I design my own template in pages to convert to PDF? And, how do I make the PDF file writeable? I want to print on Avery 8395. I was looking for specific dimensions on Avery.com but I can't find them. They just keep referring me to their templates and Design Pro. Design Pro helps me design the labels but I can't put them in a format Windows can open.

  • Help with XML PDF creation

    Hi can anyone help or point me in the right direction. I am developing an event management system, part of this is the dynamic creation on name badges which will be printed at the events.
    I want to do this by exporting all the data as XML then loading it into the pdf which will create the name badges. I have done this and it works fine in the PDF preview mode, but when the pdf is saved and opened in reader or in a browser the data dosent load into the PDF.
    Do i have to call the XML on load, or do anything to get it to work outside of LIveCycle?? Any help would be much appreciated.

  • HP Officejet - Crooked Scans and PreSet Margins

    Scanning:  Pages feed through automatic ADF unevenly, causing all the scans to be crooked.  I want to be able to scan stacks of documents at a time and do not want to have to straighten every scan.  The problem appears to be with the roller that pulls pages through the ADF.  There is only one roller and it is positioned in the center of the page, allowing the paper to go askew as it passes through the feeder. 
    Preset margins:  There appears to be no way to override the preset margins of 1/2" on all sides.  This prevents me from downloading information from the internet.  The printer clips off the top and bottom of each page unless I reduce the documents to 93 - 95%. 
    I am unable to use Avery Design and Print templates for labels and name badges.  The preset margins clip the first and last rows on each sheet.  Only about 60% of the badges on a page is usable.  Extremely wasteful.

    I would be happy to help you with your Officejet 7610 printer.
    Although I can't change the preset margins, the margin specifications can be found in the following link; Printer Specifications for the HP Officejet 7610 and 7612 Wide Format e-All-in-One Series (H912).  The information here might be helpful.
    As for the crooked scans, it would be best to use the paper jam troubleshooting steps even though you are not experiencing a jam; An ADF Paper Jam Error Displays on the HP Officejet 7610 Wide Format e-All-in-One Printer Series. This document wil guide you through steps ti inspect and clean the document feeder.

  • Document size and margins

    Please save my sanity!
    I'm trying to create a document that is 3" x 1".  It's a name badge.  Every time I enter my document size I get the following message:
    Specified margin and columns setup does not fit not within the specified page size.
    I've tried adjusting my margins to 0 as well as various other amounts but to no avail.  Still getting the same message
    This is driving me crazy!  It seems like it should be such an easy fix but I'm am just completely missing it.  I should mention that I'm new to InDesign.

    After over 6 months of myself and co-workers going through the same error, I may have found a permanent solution. With InDesign open, but without a document open on the screen, go to "file"—"document presets"—"define". From there you can check and change your margins and columns to zero on all presets. Once this is done you should not have any more sizing issues. Let me know if this works for you!

  • Importing excel date into InDesign

    Ok so I have a load of names badges to do, name (in blue and bold 18 pt), job title (12 point bold, black) then company (10 point regular).
    Now I am currently copy and pasting the text in and using character styles to get it in the right format, but this is taking me a long time. I know there must be a way where I have maybe three text boxes set and it pastes in and automatically does the styles for me,
    Can anyone help?

    Read about Data Merge in the help files.
    This might also be a way to handle the page numbering, but probably not the best. More in your other thread after I read what Eugene had to say.

  • Need a suggestion on Software

    Hello,
    The University I'm working for needs to standardize clearance badges for a risk management department. Presently we are using a combination of Excel and some other program to allow us to keep a standard template, and through excel, pull up a new card instantaneously for a person as needed.
    I'm looking for an Adobe product that could do virtually the same thing, but allow us greater freedom in design. I've complained since day one that name badges are being designed in Excel and this other software (whatever it is) since it severely limits your abilities. Is there an Adobe product that can follow a structured design, with precise measurements, and even allow for quick switching between information such as a name, department, etc. without saving hundreds of files? Or even a combination of programs? Thanks.

    It sounds as if Ilustrator and possibly also Acrobat could be a choice.
    You can create badges with vector artwork (and images) in Illustrator and make systematic changes there, and you could use the option of saving to PDF with the option of anyone being able to make simpler (text) changes in Acrobat or even reader.
    Depending on the artwork, you could also consider Pohotoshop for the creation of the badges.

  • Need to pull certain data from certain documents

    First off if you know of a more acceptable place to post this please let me know
    Ok here is my scenario, i receive these documents in excel files they have users first and last name, badge number, email, E.T.C. Now i want to extract just the badge number out of this excel document. So my first question is i want to do this with a java program so what do i want to research about to make a java program that searches one of these excel documents and assuming it is space dillimeted pulls just the badge number out?
    Then i have another document called NCAS, this document has every employee listed only unique thing here is badge number and username but i want to take the badge number out of the first document and use this badge number to search my NCAS document. This will bring up a line in the document with user badge number username phone , e.t.c. again this document is space dillemited. So i want it to pull a field out of this document which i believe is the first one copy it.
    Then for my third thing i want to transfer this copied username over to a esb (oracle product) which has a database adapter on it and use it to input this username and query through our oracle database that username after that im going to use esb database connector to assign users responsibilities. but thats another project im just trying to extract certain information from certain documents i will worry about insserting this into a database later
    I guess what i would ask is can someone direct me to something that explains how to pull entries out of a document or something to that nature maybe at the same time how can i implement my java program that is pulling data out of files and incorprate that with an esb project that involves database adapters

    Just a comment. You will often get that type of response to a question that Google answers well, especially if it's a recurring question that has been asked and answered lots of times. Have a look at http://www.catb.org/~esr/faqs/smart-questions.html for some pointers.
    If you had said,
    "I searched Google/this forum, found a few ideas, and am looking for feedback from anyone who has tried this and might be able to help me pick the best way"
    you would have likely got a response more in line with what you were looking for. Also note that searching this forum for "java excel" found lots of interesting hits.

  • HP C5180 - adding page size.

    I am trying to print some Avery Name Badges and the page keeps cutting off and not printing the last name tag. I have a new computer - HP which is running Windows 7.  I am using Avery's Design Pro program which is not fully compatible with Window's 7.  I tried to add another page size, but there is no way I could find to do that.  Any suggestions?

    Hi - First thing I'd recommend is setting the media/paper type to Plain Paper by going into File, Print and Properties/Preferences.  Sometimes the media sensor can cause some alignment problems and changing the media type away from automatic will resolve it.

  • Cannot get PDFs to print automatically

    I work in an elementary school where we have visitors use a website to check in and out of the school. When a visitor checks in, the website creates a pdf file for their name badge.
    Instead of training the parents of the 1200 students at my school how to print the badge, I created an Folder Action plug-in in Automator to automatically print the pdf file and then delete the file.
    Here are the basic steps of my script:
    Find the Finder item pdf file
    Render the pdf as images
    print the images
    Find the Finder item pdf file again
    Delete the file
    If I try simply Finding the Finder item, and then printing the Finder item, it prints it in portrait mode instead of landscape mode and half the information is cut off. I cannot change the default orientation mode for the printer.
    The problem is for some reason, when the program runs automatically (when it detects the file has been downloaded), it sends two copies of the pdf to the printer. This prints two labels for every visitor--what a waste!
    I have spent the last 2 weeks trying to get it to only print one badge, but I can get it to print 2 badges, 3 badges, or blank badges, but not one.
    Can anyone tell me how to get the Render PDF as Images > Print Images to only print 1 copy instead of 2? Thank you.

    It sounds like you might have leftover items from previous actions carrying through to your print action. You can use the View Results to see what is going in and out of the actions and ignore as needed - each action has the option to ignore the input from previous actions (if applicable).

  • Multiple Data Merge - Problem Resolve... Sort Of

    I've researched this issue all morning and found issues dating back to 2012 regarding the problems with Indesign's Multiple Record Data Merge. Many of the issues are answered with the basic set up. Create a new page as a single page and non facing page document. It appears that an earlier bug was resolved that caused data merge documents to be placed off center when produced. The issue that I was experiencing was similar to what I had seen but not covered or not answered when it appeared someone was posting a question about it.
    I started with a single page document, non-facing page, no initial text box, and sized to 8.5'' x 11''. I'm layout out name badges 10-up on a page. I had a previous template that had some graphics in the background for alignment purposes. I created a blank master page and a record holder for the name badge then loaded my data source, placed my data entries, and styled accordingly. Upon creating a data merge I selected Multiple Record and then previewed the data merge and positioned the elements on the page using the data merge controls top, left and column placement commands.
    The preview looked perfect. The problem came when I finished the final data merge. The resulting page was not correct and looked nothing like the preview. Records were strewn about the page and excessive amounts of pages were created. I spent 4 hours trouble shooting this, far more than this project was billed. At this point it was a mission. In a reply dated back around 2013 I found that someone had removed a layer from their document. I had no layers. The only thing that was not a part of the actual data merge was the graphics that I had on the page for positioning that were not tied to the data merge at all.
    I decided to delete these graphics and try to apply the data merge again. The results were perfect. I'm deducing from this experiment that the data merge needs to be done on a blank page. Which is counter productive to the Indesign mater page template. Any elements on the page need to exist as a a part of your data entry group and no other elements on the page. You only create one data entry group in the top corner of the page then use the data merge panel to position and duplicate. Otherwise, you will get a single page for each record you have with each record set 10-up in my case.
    Recap:
    Create a single non-facing page document with no intial text box. (if you have more than one page the Multiple Records option will be grayed out)
    Only have 1 layer in this document
    Set a single data entry set/group on the master page.
    Do not include any other graphics. Put them in after the data merge.
    Click the Create Merged Document button in the data merge panel
    Select "Multiple Records" from the drop down list
    Click the Multiple Record Layout tab at the top of the Data Merge panel
    Click "Preview Multiple Record Layout" at the bottom of the Data Merge panel so you can see the Entry Sets with the data in place
    Use the Margins and Layout or Records inputs to position the elements on the document (see note below)
    Click OK when everything is in place the way you like it.
    After the data merge is complete you will have a new document that should look like you want it to. Now you can go into this document and start adding your design elements.
    NOTE: Positioning the content without the base graphics can be tough if not impossible. What I did in this situation is placed my positioning guides on the page then went through Steps 1-9 to set up the document for merge. Once my settings were set I then clicked "Cancel" and deleted my positioning guides and graphics. The problem I was having was due to these elements being on the page. Once I created the document I then pasted my template guides back into the final data merged master page for production.
    Request to ADOBE: Fix this issue so we can design our layouts and position our data merge elements without having to backtrack.

    If you insist in multi-record data merge, you can have static/variable graphic and text components work. But, create a 3.5 x 2 frame (3.75 x 2.25 card w/bleed) around all of these components, and make sure nothing extends beyond this bounding frame. If the composition prevents you from enclosing all components, then make a PDF of content that is imported in as one graphic.
    Another suggestion: don't combine the functions of variable data merge with imposition.
    Create a 1up layout of business card to data merge the variable info.
    From this file, export to PDF.
    Then impose the individual cards with: an imposition app, PDF plug-in, Indesign script, or even manual placement into another document.
