Need help setting up web server with WRT54GS

Hello,
I am trying to set up a web server with my linksys router. For the network settings, I have used 192.168.001.150 as my primary IP (192.168.1.150, all 3 numerical characters have to be filled in), 255.255.255.000 as my primary netmask and 192.168.001.001 (192.168.1.1) as my gateway. I have gone into my router and then enabled port fowarding for port 80 to 192.168.1.150 but I still cannot access my web server. What could be the problem?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I'm trying to set up this server so I can test scripts and things.

Hello, I need some help about web server. I'm really really bad when it comes into server because I dont have any experience about this. I'm actually developing project under university, where I have to create a website for them. Since they have just bought a new server, they want me to install and configure the server to assure I can run my program on it, which means I have to make it as a web server. I dont have any idea how to configure it, what I need and so on. Furthermore, how can I configure dreamweaver to make sure that our website can be uploaded into Internet later?

I think you may be in for a bit of hard work and possible complications if you have no idea on how to set up a server. It would be more realistic, especially for security purposes for an IT person who is knowledgeable in servers to set it up for the university - seriously!
Anyways, I suppose it all depends on the type of server, is it a windows based server or will it be linux??

As you can see, lots of information, but it depends on the type of server.
Once the server is set up, you would have information on how to upload the site to the server (same as any webhost) and you use those details to enter into the Remote site window.
I'm afraid I'm not familar with setting up servers, so that's the best help I can offer :-)

Need help setting up LDAP server for Address Book

I've set up Panther servers before for AFP which is pretty simple but now the office I work at wants me to setup an LDAP server so they can share the same contact information, probably about 2,000+ entries. I'm guessing that this will have to be entered in the LDAP server entry by entry.
I need to know how to setup the server and what settings need to be on the clients' computers, such as in Address Book.
The server is an older G4 tower and I've got 8 computers hooked up to it on a simple network. I don't think I'll need to make the LDAP server accessible from outside the network but it's something I'll have to worry about for the future.

Need help setting up FTP server.

I have a networked video server that converts analog video from my security cameras to mpeg, it has an internal FTP client that I have pointed to a share on my server, with the correct login info. This will all occur on my intranet and if possible I do not want FTP open to the internet. I can not connect to the server via FTP. Any advice would be appreciated.

John, this is all very vague.
What is your FTP software? or if inbuilt to the OS, which OS is it? Mac, Windows, other?
When you say you can't connect to the FTP box, is this using your "Video server" (What OS is it)?
Have you tried using another machine to connect to your server?

Need Help Setting Up Testing Server

Hi. I have been using Dreamweaver for a while, but am
extremely new at the whole testing server thing, as I have been
building only simple pure-html pages.
I am want to password protect a part of my site using the
Insert > Data Objects > User Authentication > Log In User.
I have already converted my whole site from .html pages to
.php pages, because I thought that .html pages wouldn't work.
Everytime I try to use that Log In User menu command,
Dreamweaver gives me a dialog box that says, "Before inserting this
object, please do the following: 1. Create a site for this file 2.
Choose a document type 3. Set up the site's testing server".
Numbers 1 and 2 have a checkbox which I am assuming means they are
done correctly. But number 3 (set up teh site's testing server) has
no checkbox and the dialog box will not allow me to click OK, which
leads me to assume that I need to accomplish the aforementioned
step number 3.
So I go to the Site Definition for my site and under the
Advanced Tab go to Testing Server. I want PHP MySQL as the server
model, so I chose that. And I am guessing I need to choose
Local/Network for the Access option because
the computer I am building this site on is not connected to the
internet. (I have no intention of hooking this machine up to
the internet becauase all of my work I have ever done is on it!)
Now, here lies my main question: What should the Testing
server folder be? And what should the URL prefix be? And do I need
to change anything else?
If I am not being clear about anything regarding my
questions, please make a point of it, and I will try to be more
clear.

Need help setting up Lion Server

Here's my story... I got a 2006 Xserve for free. It has 2 dual core 2.66 Xeons, 4 GB of RAM, and 2 300 GB SAS drives that I have turned into a RAID 1 array. I've installed OS X Lion Server on it and all is running okay. My OS X Server knowledge is slim to none. I do a little work with it at my job, but our main servers are Windows. I'd like to set it up as a DHCP and Open Directory server at home, just for fun. My home network consists of this Xserve, my 27" iMac, a MacBook Pro, an Xbox, a Samsung TV, a couple of iPads and our iPhones.
I go from my Charter modem, to my AirPort Extreme, and then broadcast wirelessly to my other devices, and have my Xserve plugged into port 1.
To get DHCP working, do I need to go from my modem to my Xserve, and then from my Xserve to the WAN port on my AirPort Extreme? Or do I just need to configure something?

This will include Server Admin. It will allow you to define DHCP, DNS, and other services not available in Lion's Server.app.
You networking knowledge will apply here. It sounds like you want to use the Xserve as the NAT gateway. This is possible, but you will need Server Admin to make it easier.

Need help setting up xrdp server on my Arch

Hey,
I want to set up an XRDP/VNC server on my personal computer which is running the latest Arch linux (X64).
I wanted to use xrdp as I am going to connect to my computer from a windows based OS (work).
I want to be able to do so using microsoft's RDP program (mstsc) as I am unable to install any software I like, it's a laptop from work.
So far I have downloaded and installed XRDP from AUR and installed the tightvnc as it was a dependency.
Right now I am kind of clueless about what to do/config/etc..
Help will be appreciated.

From one newb to another, I can give the process I took to get it running. First and foremost, uninstall xrdp from the AUR, I could not get it to work no matter what I tried
Next you will need to make sure xvnc is working properly, this can be done by:
Xvnc :1
More then likely you will get several font errors, as Xvnc is looking for its fonts in the /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts directory, and Arch deposits that in the /usr/share/fonts directory. So to fix this we do:
ln -s /usr/share/fonts /usr/X11R6/lib/X11
now try the Xvnc command above, it should work properly this time (might be a font error or two but the server is running).
So now that we have Xvnc running properly, lets go to sourceforge and gank the latest xrdp tar ball... http://xrdp.sourceforge.net/
I used the standard install (generic linux install) with "tar zxvf" then "make" and then "make install"
If you are using KDE, you should be all set, if another WM, then search through the forums (Ubuntu had several hits on xrdp and are Gnome specific) as I would more then likely steer you in the wrong direction.
Next we need to remove the lock on Xvnc :0 so it can restart (or you can restart your system if it makes you feel better), its in the /tmp/ as .X10-lock
then run the following command to startup xrdp:
/usr/local/xrdp/xrdp_control.sh start
I hope this helps, if not completely, at least in the proper direction. As I mentioned, there is a lot of info in the Ubuntu forums on xrdp, some of it is helpful, other is meh

Need help setting up a network with new Airport Extreme

Hey All I need some help. Networks, Wan, WPA it's all greek to me. Here's what I am trying to do, I have a newer imac, an ipod touch, a apple TV and the kids have a laptop running on Vista. I have a DSL internet connection through Verizon with a Westell VersaLink Model 327W router. I disabled the wireless option on the versalink and hooked the Ethernet cable from the versalink to my Airport extreme. I am trying to figure out how to set things up so I can restrict the kids laptop from the internet after say 9pm but allow everything else unlimited access. I've read other posts and the manual but can't figure it out. When I turn the Airport off Bridge mode i get a bunch of errors re DHCP beginning and ending addresses and have no clue how to set this up. Before I spend hours on the phone with tech support I figured someone out there may be able to help. This can't be to difficult or is it?

i think i have the most recent 327w update, because it now shows my modem screen in a red color and it is broken into 3 sections across the screen.
as far as the AEBS is concerned, you did not use it in bridge mode at all?
i thought you had to connect 1 cable from it to the 327w? I have about 5 items i will be connecting, so i will probably run any wired from the AESB, but not sure yet?

Need help setting up WiFi - Xfinity with Network Switch, Time Capsule, Airport Express and Apple TV

Hello - I recently got Comcast Xfinity service. We had switched from a different service. Our wifi service was never great, but prior to Xfinity, it worked decently. But now that we have Xfinity, our wifi is much worse and very unreliable. I am seeking advice on how to setup my various Apple wifi devices in my home. I have attached a diagram that illustrates what I am dealing with. We have a large old house with stone walls. Comcast does not support this issue.
To explain the attached diagram, we have a total of 4 levels in our house - an unfinished basement, 1st floor, 2nd floor, and 3rd floor. The Xfinity router is in the basement and it is connected to a NetGear 10/100 network switch. I already have ethernet cables running from the network switch in the basement to various locations throughout the house. So I have ethernet connected to my time capsule and ethernet connected to each of my 3 Airport express devices. The dark lines running from the network switch to the various devices represents ethernet cable.
The immediate problem that we are having is that we are unable to connect to our wifi networks. The networks show on my mac laptop and my iPhone, for example, but I am unable to connect. I know that I am inputting the correct password, but most of the time, we cannot get in. Sometimes we can..... Very frustrating! Also, due to the fact that I setup what I have over several years, I have multiple network names. I once tried to fix that issue, but was unable to tackle it due to my lack of understanding.
Here is what I am looking to accomplish:
1. Seamless wifi access throughout our house.
2. One name for our wifi network. Right now we have multiple names for multiple networks. Just want to simplify and have only one network. (I guess that an additional "guest network" would be ok, but not absolutely necessary.
Also, if you think I should disable the Xfinity wifi, and just rely on my mac wifi devices, I am perfectly fine with this. Just tell me how to do so.
I have no idea how where to start or how to set this up. I imagine that I would need to disconnect everything and reset and start from scratch? Can someone tell me what I should do? Even general advice would be helpful, but the more specific, the better, given my limited understanding. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Need help setting up Mac server for dental practice?

My dentist is running windows server 2003 and wants to do a total upgrade to Apple server components. The issue is that the software his office uses for patient records is not Mac compatible. He is really set on the Mac environment and is curious if he can run the software on a Mac running Windows and I guess my question is the same. I don't have the specifics on the software he needs to run but from what he says it is fairly low overhead and handles some large jpeg files but mostly small data files.
I am curios how difficult the task of migrating all the info into the Mac environment will be? He is also curious about remote access from home or wherever he needs to get to his info and am curious if a VPN or other method is best.

Ok, I am a sucker. I will bite.
The answer is yes. OS X and OS X Server can run Windows in a virtual machine using Parallels of VMWare (or virtual box, or Crossover, or... you get my point). This will allow you to run Mac hardware with Mac software but at the same time run Windows and the required applications.
But, there is a cost penalty here. First, there is the cost of the hardware. Not a big deal, Apple is competitive in price and the server hardware is very nice. Then there is the cost of Windows and the VM software. This is your tax. You have to add these costs on top of what you are already buying and then there is the hidden cost of the additional support. You are now supporting two operating systems, OS X and Windows. And just because Window is running on a Mac does not make it immune to viruses/spyware/trojans/etc.
If this guy really wants to go the Mac route, then go all Mac. Check out http://www.macpractice.com/mp/dds/ or http://www.macdentpro.com/index.php or do a search. There are a number of products that can handle dental practices on Macs, including the radiology aspect. Google is your friend.
As for remote access, OS X Server has a VPN built in that works well. That is not a problem. Or you can get a dedicated VPN appliance to handle security. Once bit of advice. Make sure you implement a good backup solution. Don't be foolish and think that TIme Machine alone is going to save you. This is medical records. Do not mess with them. Spend the dollars to properly harden the environment and ensure record retention policies are met.

Just bought new time capsule- need help setting up WiFi network with another router

Here ismy situation.
I had a wireless network setup up at home using a Belkin wifi router.
I have 2 macBooks (1 pro, 1 air) and 2 iphones that connect wirelessly and a desktop PC that is hard wired to the ethernet port. In addition, I have a Verizon wireless network extender plugged in by ethernet. All of the hard-wired gear is in our 3rd floor attic office (and the wireless signal was strong throughout the house).
The Belkin wifi router was plugged into a wall ethernet jack that is in turn wired into a Linksys router in the basement (along with multiple other ethernet ports througout the house) and is hardwired to the Cable modem next to it. All of the hard-wired ethernet stuff (including the router in the basement) was there when we bought the house, and I have no clue in the tangle of wires how to sort them out (but don't really think I need to)
I just purchased a TimeCapsule to do wireless backups of my 2 macbooks, and tried to set it up alongside the existing wireless modem.
Needless to say, this did not work well. I called AppleCare, and was told that the TimeCapsule needs to be the "1st" wireless adapter, so I went into the basement, and connected the time capsule directly to the cable modem, and then out to the basement router. The Belkin router still needs to be in the attic to supply the PC and the Verizon adapter (so it is near a window for GPS signal).
If I try to name the WiFi network the same SSID on both the TC and the belkin router (to have dual signal strenth coverage) the whole thing gets messed up and the TC cannot be "found" by the aiprort Utility software.
What I have done now is that I have 2 side-by-side wireless networks with 2 unique names (actually 3, because I enabled the 5Ghz signal on the TC), but our wireless devices do not "switch" automatically from one SSID to another stronger signal SSID as we move through the house
Here's the question: How do I name them the same so that the devices will switch effortlessly to the stongest signal? I understand it involves switching the "channels" but don't know how to do it right now. Currently, everything works, so I don't want to mess it up tinkering. Another caveat- there are several other wireless networks from neighbors houses that I can "see". I jsut downloaded a program called iStumbler that shows the channels, but not sure what to do with that info.
Any advice would be appreciated.

OK.. sounds like a mess.. or at least messy and the previous people should have left a log book with all the IP address info in it.. you have far too many routers.. but from here it is impossible to tell how they are configured. Most are probably just setup as AP.
Naming rule for wireless.. Same SSID same security different channel.
SSID ie wireless name to work on the PC side should have no spaces and no special characters. TC name should also follow that rule. So the devices need to all set with fixed channels.
Don't worry too much about iStumbler and what is outside your house.. there isn't enough channels at 2.4ghz anyway. And you are going to need to use them all. There are only three non-overlapping channels. 1, 6, 11 so set each device to one of those channels. The TC should be as close as you can to where you normally use the MacBooks.. and turn on the 5ghz. You will have to leave it to automatic name so the Macbook can also roam across from 2.4 to 5ghz. But if you care to use a different name and force it onto 5ghz the speed is much better as long as you are in the same room.
Roaming is great in theory.. often in practice it just doesn't work.. you need to step in and turn off wireless and then turn it back on.. you can quickly see which router it is connecting to by hold down the option key when you click the airport fan in the top menu area.. and look at bssid.. you will have to figure out which number MAC address relates to which router.
Also do not be surprised if Lion gives you issues. It seems to often drop out and lose connection to the TC as a backup device even if internet is still working.

Need help setting up eyeHome - Wireless with AX

Hi all,
I am trying to setup eyeHome over a wireless connection using Aiport Xtreme.
I have no problem connecting to the internet through AX and my D-Link ethernet modem (thanks to Apple Support), works perfectly.
But when I try and add eyeHome to this equation everything seems to stop working and I have to reset my AX and start all over again.
The problem seems to occur when I setup try to set up WDS over, I get an error about not being able to configure the base. Elgato's (eyeHome's makers) instructions on how to setup the device arent clear.
Please help me out on this. Cheers.

A little confused actually. Why does D-Link DSL- 300T have to support WDS, when it is the wireless adapter provided by Elgato which is having problems being configured. The setup is as follows?

I need help setting up file sharing with my MBP and a PC

i have been trying to set up file sharing so I can move files on my windows PC (music, pic's, office, pdf, etc..) to my new MBP. I followed all the directions, but still cannot see the MBP on the PC. I had it working a few days ago by setting up the workgroup function. but now, nothing. it will not show up in Windows Explorer. Just trying to move files into Dropbox. Help!! thanks.

i have been trying to set up file sharing so I can move files on my windows PC (music, pic's, office, pdf, etc..) to my new MBP. I followed all the directions, but still cannot see the MBP on the PC.
